Up for Debate: 30-day sentence in webcam-spying case

Dharun Ravi was sentenced to a 30-day jail term Monday after being convicted two months ago on 15 counts including intimidation, invasion of privacy, and tampering with evidence, according to 'The New York Times'. Ravi faced a maximum of 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of using a webcam to spy on his roommate Tyler Clementi having sex with a man in a Rutgers University dorm room. Clementi killed himself shortly after learning of the spying. How do you feel about the 30-day sentence in this case? Can the battles against cyber bullying and antigay bias be fought in the courtroom?

Despite running on a platform against the bailouts and against Wall Street corruption – all 15 Freshman Republicans in the House Tea Party Caucus are snugly in the pocket of Wall Street. A study by the Center for American Progress shows that every single one of the 15 Tea Party Freshman Republicans has received campaign cash from either banks that got bailed out or from Wall Street’s biggest interest group the American Bankers Association – or both.
I see where a thank you card has recently been sent to Barry. It reads:
Dear Mr. Obama,
Thank you for not going to Arlington National Cemetary on Memorial Day.
There is something very sacred about that place and about that day.
Those who bled and died for this country deserve to be honored and saluted by people who love their country and honor their sacrifice.
You don't belong there.
Thank you for realizing that and going to Chicago.

Brrrrk, the Tea Party thing was all hype...all they are is the extreme right wing of the Republican Party...the TP is just the fringe GOP.
Turns out all that steaming and hissing, the roiling and the boiling, the bravado and the brewing was all just a tempest in a teapot.

bfra, true. As I recall, he replaced Art Fleming. It has been a long strange trip, Alex will have to play trivial pursuit in the bars like we do.
Just got back online slack. The outrage over the small sentence will cause a groundswell of people screaming 'DO SOMETHING!' and they will invent another round of hate crimes and mandatory sentences to assure such an injustice is never allowed again. Basically the ignorant masses will demand that we have increasing authority and punitive power over us while at the same time we already enjoy 25% of the world's prisoners and only have 5% of the world's population. Happens all the time.
