What do you make of this CNN report that states the intelligence community — not the State Department, Justice Department or the White House — guided talking points following the Benghazi attack?

The truth doesn't require talking points for anyone, nor a teleprompter.

By: Ask01 on 11/20/12 at 5:56

Let's see, the State Department, Justice Department, and White House aren't directly involved, nor necessarily skilled in intelligence collection, evaluation, and interpretation.

The intelligence community, on the other hand, is charged with performing all these functions.

Which group should take the lead in presenting talking points about intelligence issues?

Good morning, Nashville.

What do you make of this CNN report that states the intelligence community — not the State Department, Justice Department or the White House — guided talking points following the Benghazi attack?

This is nothing more than a Republican witch-hunt; the sore -losers tried to smear President Obama with the bogus Fast & Furious charges; when that failed, they latched onto the Benghazi tragedy, in a desperate attempt to exploit the tragedy for political advantage.

This Begnhazi smear-job attempt is being orchestrated by three GOP stooges: Sen McCain, Sen Graham and Sen Ayotte.

McCain is the leader of the lynch mob; his motivations are the same as always. Never forget the fact that McCain was the last bitter hold out against the MLK holiday; being beaten by a black man in his failed quest for the presidency has curdled the old man's joy juice...McCain is a despicable racist whose sell-by date has long expired.

By: bfra on 11/20/12 at 6:40

The GOP would be more productive if they spent time cleaning around their own doors.

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 6:41

Think about it....does it really matter if the Benghazi gunmen were part of the mob that was protesting the "innocence of Muslims" film, or a separate, unrelated terrorist cell?

Isn't that a distinction without a significant difference? The four Americans are just as dead, whether it was at the hands of Al Qaeda, or an uncoordinated mob. Security improvements at our embassies will go forward, regardless of the minor details of what happened in Benghazi.

It seems to me that the GOP lynch-mob is grasping at straws here....the sore and bitter losers are flailing about in a desperate attempt to destroy Obama's presidency....they want dirt and they want it NOW!

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 6:50

Al Qaeda usually takes responsibility for their bloody attacks...the fact that they did not immediately crow about their killing of a US Ambassador is not insignificant....some other organized terror cell could have pulled off the attack. To immediately blame-credit Al Qaeda seems to be a hasty, if not rash response....was that Petraeus' "gut reaction" at the time? The General may have jumped to a conclusion, after all, we know that he does not always think things through...he has a testosterone imbalance....suffers from Beaver Fever....his credibility is rather low, IMO.

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 7:03

Senator McCain's entire existence seems to center around destroying the man who beat him in the 2008 US presidential race....it has become the old man's singular obsession.

There ought to be a law that prohibits the losers in a presidential contest from holding office while their winning opponent is in office. Presidential losers should quickly exit stage left and retire or take a hiatus during the time that the winner is in office.

Senator McCain's voting record is a clear indication that he is an obstructionist sore-loser....if he had any integrity at all, he would retire and move on with his life; instead of personally targeting BHO.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/20/12 at 7:31

Did tomba1 get his post from a teleprompter? ;-)

By: Captain Nemo on 11/20/12 at 7:34

I think this is just another attempt for the fringe right to be an anchor around the President and farther impair the country.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 7:41

Yep, it was appropriate for the intelligence community to make the call and if they felt the need to hold back certain information for reasons of national security then they needed to do so! More butthurt whining from the sore losers on the right. And how much is all this bickering costing the taxpayers? Don't we have more important things to focus on????

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 7:41

OK, did everyone brush up on their Italian?

By: Mike Burch on 11/20/12 at 8:59

Religious theocrats have been known to engage in witch hunts. Does anyone actually believe that acts of terrorism will never occur under a Republican presidency, or that a Republican administration will successfully prevent all acts of terrorism?

The idea seems to be that Romney and Ryan would have waved their magic wands ... but wouldn't that make THEM the witches?

By: govskeptic on 11/20/12 at 9:00

The talking points have never been a concern of this reader, but the absolute
incompetence of every thing about the lack of Security for this entire Libyan
mission has been, especially since it happened on 9/11. While these murders
were important to discuss prior to the election as to Foreign Policy, The
WH operatives did a great job in keeping it off balance to the public and
especially Mitt Romney Let us put up a memorial plaque, imprison a couple
of shady terrorist, and get on with other very pressing issues.

By: Moonglow1 on 11/20/12 at 9:00

Moonglow1: Rice kicked McCain in the balls. Now he wants an apology. Another tea tactic to embarrass President Obama. Tea nuts-give it a rest!! We don't want to hear your crap. Get that wind bag McCain off of the air waves.

What happened in Benghazi stays in Benghazi. Let the CIA do it's job. We've got some pressing issues in the USA that need attention. Like raising taxes on the billionaires. Let's get to it. Start with McCain!

By: Rasputin72 on 11/20/12 at 9:03

Because of the cowardice of this "free stuff" administration every embassy in the world is now a target for terrorist. The only advice I could give to a terrorist is why bother withthe USA. This country is in the process of imploding.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 9:06

Raspy, you know the Joy of living with free stuff, don't you?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 9:07

There were 7 embassey attacks under Bush - but the fellow republicans had no outrage then.

By: Moonglow1 on 11/20/12 at 9:11

Moonglow1: As an aside, the NTY had an excellent article yesterday regarding American multinationals. Apparently Europe wants them to pay their fair share of taxes. Europe is sick and tired of sophisticated tax schemes designed for multinational tax shelters. As the French said to one of them (I think it was Google) what you are doing is not illegal but it is immoral.

I was thinking of Romney and his taxes. Soon no where to run nowhere to hide. Governments are coming for your money Romney. You engaged in Vulture Capitalism now the Vultures are coming for you. Oh how does it feel to be on your own like a rolling stone?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 9:12

Here's the info regarding the seven embassey attacks under Bush.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 9:13

Moonglow, I missed that article. I'll look it up. Thanks.

By: Rasputin72 on 11/20/12 at 9:21

Blanket......my "Simple Six" stalwart, Only in your dreams, People like me were put on this earth in order for people like you to understand their place in life.

Remember the grear speech by the President of the Belgian Congo, Amos Moregumbo back in the 40's. "Let the Big Dog Eat."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 9:22

Oh, Junior.....you really are a piece of work.

By: BenDover on 11/20/12 at 9:23

The Spin cycle setting is on 'high' this week.

More rewriting history as it occurred. The attacks had nil to do with the stupid movie they all blamed it on and everyone knew it.

Movie-dude's in jail... but now that the real truth has come out we need another fall guy.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/20/12 at 9:25

Ben, why should they have leaked their intelligence info?

By: BenDover on 11/20/12 at 9:31

Why should they have said it was a spontaneous uprising sparked by a movie no one had ever seen when it wasn't, bk?

By: rldavenport@com... on 11/20/12 at 9:39

So now you leftists are calling CNN right wing? Excuse me while I laugh my head off

By: BenDover on 11/20/12 at 9:39

They're just spinning yarn for the faithful to cling to. Willful delusion is a powerful tool.

"pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"...

By: bfra on 11/20/12 at 9:39

Blanket - Raspy's pretend stories are at least good for a laugh. That's probably the only attention he gets.

By: Moonglow1 on 11/20/12 at 9:47

Moonglow1: What is really hilarious but true is now dead Gaddafi had a thing for Condi Rice. He have her gifts and fawned over her. Under Bush with Condi at his side, Libya was revered by the USA. The Bush neocons made Gaddafi a very wealthy man. Who know the real story. And yes CNN has become a right wing media machine. MSNBC specifically The Ed Show is the only progressive news outlet surviving.

By: Moonglow1 on 11/20/12 at 9:50

Moonglow1: sorry for the grammar in previous post. I am on my BlackBerry and did not check.

By: bfra on 11/20/12 at 9:55

Another proof that CNN is right wing, just note the posters on this board that is denying it.

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 10:00

By: BenDover on 11/20/12 at 9:31

Why should they have said it was a spontaneous uprising sparked by a movie no one had ever seen when it wasn't, bk?

Ben, the Muslim world was inflamed over the film, "Innocence of Muslims"...Muslim clerics denounced the film and that denunciation incited riots all over the globe....the rioting in Benghazi occurred at the same time that all those other riots were going on...it is not unreasonable to conclude , then or now, that rioting over the hate-film resulted in the breaching of the compound in Benghazi and the subsequent deadly fire which claimed the Ambassador's life.

Petraeus immediately jumped to the conclusion that Al Qaeda was behind the Benghazi attack...Al Qaeda has never taken credit for the snuff job....they would if they could...they brag about that stuff, they don't try to hide it, as the Republicans are claiming.

If Petraeus had spent less time writing love letters to bimbos in the states and more time doing his job, he would not have to rely on his initial gut reactions, as he did in Benghazi...the General suffers from Beaver Fever....pay no attention to that man.

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 10:02

When it comes to the war on terror, CNN is to the right of FOX News...Helen Thomas explained it all.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/20/12 at 10:04

Rasputin with his free stuff is Romney's ass hole, or is it other way around. There low class whine makes yogi look good.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/20/12 at 10:09

Ben you still believe that Bush was the greatest of all, but when you want to blame George for the reason Obama was elected it makes you a flip flipper. Oh what, so was Romney. It must be in the genetic code of the GOP. lol

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 10:11

Ben, I dragged this up for you...the story was dated Deptember17, 2012.

Snippet: The movie, (Innocence of Muslims) backed by hardcore anti-Islam groups in the United States, is a low-budget project that was ignored in the United States when trailers were posted on YouTube in July. But after Egyptian television aired certain segments, violent protests erupted in Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Violent mobs attacked the U.S. Consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, leaving the ambassador and three other American men dead.

To say that the inflammatory film had nothing to do with the tragedy in Benghazi is Republican BS designed to take down a president who could not be defeated at the polls....it's a lynch mob.

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 10:12

S/h/b September 17, 2012...need a nail trim?

By: dargent7 on 11/20/12 at 10:25

McCain needs to get a life, preferrably not in public service.
Rice told the voracous press what the CIA told her.
Nothing like what Powell, Rice, Chemey, Bush told the American people re: Iraq.
Watergate similarities? The GOP leadrership is nuts.

By: slacker on 11/20/12 at 10:28

Of course the White house penned Rice's talking points, no one else would have dared, Rice works for Obama. Petraeus testified that the talking points the CIA put out were different from what was later put out.
And of course the Repubs, are pushing for a Watergate type hearing, for obvious political reasons.
Obama, or Axelrod, decided election day is close, lets spin this for now. On the Sunday news shows, Rice emphasized that the movie agitated the mobs, who happened to be carrying their mortar's, and other heavy weapons that day.
The spin was unnecessary, Axelrod messed up, he could have turned this into a political plus for Obama.

By: Mike Burch on 11/20/12 at 10:34

Didn't Romney and Ryan plan to slash the money for embassy security, as part of their "rescue plan for the super-rich"?

Let's be honest ... if the right-wing hawks have their way, the 1% will laugh to the bank while their serfs live in a much more dangerous world.

By: govskeptic on 11/20/12 at 10:43

Your love, protection, and admiration for everything Helen Thomas over the
past couple of years has become a little bit concerning. Is there more to the
story you wish to share outside her own dislike for Israel's influence?

Don't recall any Ambassador's being murdered under Bush's administration.

By: Rasputin72 on 11/20/12 at 10:50

Mike Burch........We all chose or were annoited by sperm to be what we are. I don't think those top 2% should be penalized for not accepting serfdom.

I knew from about age 8 that being a failure was not going to be my calling.

Now that I have the euphoria of financial freedom, I know that all the sweat and tears were worth it. Having to share it with those that failed or did not care is not something I would do willingly.

By: slacker on 11/20/12 at 10:53

Hey Burch.. its also rumored that Romney and Ryan, were planning on stealing all the Gold Bullion from Fort Knox, and splitting it up with the super rich.
The British no doubt would have had to send in James Bond to foil the nefarious plot.
But thankfully, your weekly article, showed voter's the way, in the nick of time.

By: bfra on 11/20/12 at 10:53

Raspy - Your never ending protest tellsall!

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 11:22

You outed me, Gov, Helen Thomas and I are lovers...don't judge a book by the cover...the woman is hot!

This guy passed the woman over to me when he was finished with her:

When Helen takes out here dentures....OMG!

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 11:23

"her dentures" that is...the lustful image cause me to mistype.

By: slacker on 11/20/12 at 11:34

lol loner. Helen strung George Clooney along for years.

By: slacker on 11/20/12 at 11:37

By: Loner on 11/20/12 at 11:56

Helen does get around...LOL, Slack...my daddy used to say, "Turn 'em upside down and they're all the same." Whether it's Paula Broadwell or Helen Thomas...no big diff.
