Up for Debate: To catch a catfish

On a Wednesday a fascinating report surfaced of a tangled web of deception involving Notre Dame's star linebacker Manti Te'o and his girlfriend that didn't exist. That report lead to more exposure of the practice known as catfishing, basically using a fake online persona to deceive someone. What do you make of the media reports — first the Deadspin article, then the other previous ones that perpetrated the myth? What do you think of Te'o — was he a victim or a hoaxer?

If any of you Obama admirers are interested, I've learned of a man named Wayne Allyn Root. He claimed he was a classmate with Barry at Columbia University and majored in he same studies as Barry.
