Where do you think a new Metro police Central Precicnt should be located?

The straightforward story could likely, if actually published, be summed up fairly easily.

Local merchants don't want law enforcement taking up potentially valuable space. The prefered location is close to what they finally acknowledge could have a negative impact on their shiny new convention center, the local establishments helping the homeless and indigent.

I, being naturally suspicious of the motives of Metro politicians and the business community, suspect this was in the works from the start.

I can easily see the mission and other facilities forced out in the next few years, even though they were in place long before the MCC.

Curious, isn't it? The problems with vagrants has been with Nashville for years, but didn't become a problem on anyones radar until now.

I don’t have an opinion at the moment.

By: Loner on 5/6/13 at 6:47

The idea of building a new police headquarters on a parcel of land that is too small for a parking lot is simply asinine.....follow the money, gotta be an insider sweetheart deal going on behind the scenes.....I smell corruption....the media needs to keep digging on this....something is rotten in the state of TN.

The arguments about the homeless are pure BS...just a distraction from the corruption....what's in the deal for Karl Dean?

By: Loner on 5/6/13 at 6:56

Isn't it odd that the Buckle of the Bible Belt would have contempt for the homeless members of our human family?

Factoring that hate in with the fact that the Bible Belt Believers are generally packing heat, one can reasonably conclude that the message of Christ has been entirely lost on these Christian heretics.

Jesus of Nazareth loved the poor and he never carried a weapon...he eschewed self-defense....one wonders, who are these Bible Belt "Christians" worshiping?

Could it be Satan?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/6/13 at 7:06

There is nothing odd about it, Loner. The Buckle is full of hypocrites and charlatans.

You being a veteran, it's hard for me to understand why you are such an anti-gunner fanatic; that is unless you favor the government taking control over the citizens. You know, like communism?

Facts have been shown there is more people killed by abortion than by a bullet fired from a gun. And that isn't just the babies being murdered, many of their mother's also get killed in the process.

And how about stopping auto accidents? How about convincing people you won't ever get killed by a knife.

How many law abiding citizens have you ever read about that intentionally killed someone except in the line of self defense?

I'm not a physically active now as I was in my younger years and I'll be damned if I'm going to stand still and let someone beat the hell out of me for any reason. I've never started a fight in my 82 years, but I have ended quite a few with my fists and knowledge. I've decided to use another system now... my gun.

By: Loner on 5/6/13 at 7:48

Thank you, Yogi, for your Christian witness....I'm sure that Jesus loves you.....regardless of your misperceptions and errors.....and your hate.

By: Loner on 5/6/13 at 7:49

Yes, Captain, sad but true...nothing really "odd" about it, I suppose, it's the norm.

By: Loner on 5/6/13 at 7:56

The Israelis hit several targets in Syria over the weekend....their "red line" was crossed...now, red blood will flow.....Holy Wars Suck....the Russians are allies of the Assad regime, they have a naval base on the Syrian coast....all hell could break loose....the tons of Sarin gas stored by the Assad dynasty could fall into the hands of the rebels or Hezbollah...that's the Israeli rationale for action.

By: Loner on 5/6/13 at 7:59

Why not put the main police station inside the MCC itself....there will be plenty of unrented space available....and plenty of parking for the police cruisers, SWAT vehicles etc. And convention goers will feel safe and secure with all those uniformed weapons-toting guys working there....right?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/6/13 at 8:12

yogi says, "I'm not a physically active now as I was in my younger years and I'll be damned if I'm going to stand still and let someone beat the hell out of me for any reason. I've never started a fight in my 82 years, but I have ended quite a few with my fists and knowledge. I've decided to use another system now... my gun."

This twit spends his time during the war cleaning the ships head or hiding in the closet. Just to mention that you will meet him in a public place sends him back to his closet.

Talk is cheap yogi and so are you.

In 2013, Nashville's long self-imposed image as the "buckle" of the bible belt is a dated non-reality. The truth is Nashville shed its self-proclaimed image as the "protestant Vatican" over a period beginning in the early 1970's. It is a fact that more than 60 per cent of the city's population has relocated here in the last 20 years from every state in the union (particularly the midwest, southern California and the northeast corridor). It is also a fact that between the mass influx of population, and the dynamic business and cultural environment, Nashville has evolved into a dynamic, cosmopolitan, hip, desirable place to live and play. It is because of this that crime must be kept in-check, and it is not unreasonable for a police precinct to be located in an area so vital to the city's business drivers. It's as simple as this - folks; if you like having a nice, safe, fun and thriving downtown that pumps hundreds of millions of dollars into your city's economy, you should absolutely do what you must to protect the people who make that happen. I say put the police precinct in the heart of the action.

The precenct will go as LONER pointed out to an area where Karl Dean has an "interest"

By: BenDover on 5/6/13 at 9:13

Here's an interactive crime map of the area for the last month.

It took about 30 seconds to fill in on my machine.

I returned this weekend from my winter hiatus to find that the that Davidson county continues to flourish for the residents of 37215 and 37205 as well as the residents of adjacent counties. I also was not surprised however to voice my first strong opinion at a welcome home dinner.

"The under class population is growing so fast as productive citizens leave to separate themselves frm the culture and squalor and crime that the county will be controlled within a decade by council and mayor that are just as crooked as our current incumbents but of a different color and most likely some having difficulty with English"

By: jefaye on 5/6/13 at 9:41

The two fastest-growing areas in Davidson County are 37203 (Midtown, The Gulch, 12-South), 37209 (Sylvan Park and the far west side), and 37219 (Downtown). Not co-incidentally, the largest number of housing starts and residential building permits issued in the last three years are in those areas.

By: BenDover on 5/6/13 at 10:06

This seems like a pretty solid move in either place. The James Robertson Pkwy is pretty far away from most of the action anymore.

Lower Broad, Convention Center, Sobro and the Gulch would all be served by the move to either of the proposed locations I think.

Putting the cops next door to the homeless shelters could serve to flush our the annoying and notoriously criminal homeless earlier and in greater numbers than if they located it up by the convention center I think. Cost and parking are issues for that prime real-estate though.

So twice now Rasputin has return to his home in as many weeks. This after he bragged that he was extending his stay in Palm Beech.

The boy just can't seem his lie straight. LOL

By: dargent7 on 5/6/13 at 11:38

Christ, Almighty! I'm gone 7 months and everything has changed...what was wrong with the prior location on Broadway?
Hey...that new Convention Center is opening soon, right?
The NRA is the 1st booker....from what I read. 6,000 morons all in one place,at once. Hope a metero hits the place on opening night.
It's like that joke,"What do you call100 lawyers at thebottom of the ocean...?" "A good start".

By: yogiman on 5/6/13 at 12:57

You apparently know me better than I know myself, Loner. So tell me: What do I hate?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/6/13 at 1:21

By your post yogi, you hate life.

By: Jughead on 5/6/13 at 2:01

I admit--I hate Cap'n Nimrod. I said it. I hope red fire ants devour his tiny gonad and he has to wait for Obamacare to deliver a prosthetic nuggets.

And, then I hope the fire ants move on to all liberal males. They have no use for their gonads, anyways.

By: yogiman on 5/6/13 at 2:48

If you had any intelligence at all (ya know, it takes brains to be intelligent) I'm Sorry you don't have any... brains or intelligence.

If I hated life, I would have left it decades ago, but I've enjoyed my life too much to commit a 'Captain Nimrod' (Nemo).

By: Captain Nemo on 5/6/13 at 3:22

Another great come back ,yogi.

By: Rasputin72 on 5/6/13 at 3:46

Nemo........You are truly deserving of your life. There are people with a lifestyle so different from yours that being in the same place at two different times for two different reasons intellectually eludes you.

You should stick to Food Shelter and Clothing.

P..S. Whoever gifted you a computer had no idea that ypu wpuld consider it a TOY.

By: bfra on 5/6/13 at 4:18

Raspy - By you own words, you sure don't know which end is up or if you are coming or going!

By: nvestnbna on 5/7/13 at 2:49

Gosh, I thought this was about the central precinct location, what's all this other dribble? Maybe one in ten posts here are even related to / on the subject, is there not another venue to cast aspersions back and forth?
