What do you think of Councilman Josh Stites' comments on Twitter regarding the chamber? Is it OK for a councilman to air such thoughts that way? Is he right or wrong?

These "questions of the day" are getting too ridiculous.
What's tomorrows going to be?
Gov. Hasalm prefers boxers to briefs...is that the correct choice?
Hey, the Rangers v. Devils game was awesome last night.

By: yogiman on 5/17/12 at 4:55

It's their paper. That gives them the right to run it like they wish. If you don't like the way this paper is operating, dargent7, why don't you buy them out and run it the way you wish?

You could pick your personally desired posters and ban all others.

First thing in the morning yogi is kissing ass.

Gas price goes up the GOP blames Obama. When Gas prices fall the GOP say Obama had nothing to do with it.

I paid $3.29 in Goodlettsville yesterday.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 5:09

Twitting; I want do and I have not run across any of my friends that do. As for as the rookie councilman goes does he twit during the meetings?

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 5:11

Darge, what did you think of Torts sitting Gaborik after the turnover? Shades of Trotz? lol

Nemo, the GOP is half right...he had nothing to do with falling prices...unless you're yogi and think he has magical powers.

I'm sorry, that makes no sense...yogi and think in the same sentence...my bad.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 5:30

You are forgiven gdia; there is no word in human to describe what the goes on in yogi empty head for thinking.

Maybe there is something in pig. LOL

Good morning, Nashville.

What do I think of Councilman Josh Stites' comments on Twitter regarding the chamber? Is it OK for a councilman to air such thoughts that way? Is he right or wrong?

I think that Mr. Stites expressed his personal opinion and politicians have the same right to express their opinions that the rest of us enjoy.

Opinions are neither right or wrong. If we are talking about facts, not opinions, then different standards apply.

When we express our opinions, we should be able to back them up with facts that support our position. I'm not sure that Mr. Stites has substantiated his claims with facts. I have not seen enough evidence to make the call at this time.

There are consequences for expressing our opinions, hopefully, Mr. Stites will be prepared to answer his critics.

I do salute Mr. Stites for his candor and courage.

I always like to stir controversy among the 14 or 15 participants on this board. The subject matter today is not worth the effort.

By: dargent7 on 5/17/12 at 5:34

Off-Topic: Mary Kennedy just hung herself. Only 52. Leaves behind 4 children.
Like Junior Seau. Shoots himself and leaves behind 4 children.
Can't these people seek HELP!?

Thank the speculators, Nemo

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 5:36

The highway signs read 554 killed on TN. HWY. The TV said that there was 1 more killed in Nashville last night.

By: BenDover on 5/17/12 at 5:39

Since the tax increase is just the city cashing in on a bogus property reassessment, you'd think the chamber would see the down-side to it. His points were spot-on.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 5:40

Should I thank the speculators for the rising gas prices Ben?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 5:43

Rasputin waves his butter knife this morning and then quickly leaves.

By: Loner on 5/17/12 at 5:45

Can anyone tell me what the present tax rate is, so that this 53 cent increase is put into perspective...I assume that the 53 cents is per thousand dollar assessed evaluation, right?

If so, the tax increase would be $53 per tax pear on a $100,000 home, right?

The NCP articles are short on those vital stats.

Thanks.

By: Loner on 5/17/12 at 5:47

S-h-b: "per tax year"....my bad.

By: Loner on 5/17/12 at 5:48

Rasp, why stick to the topic of the day? If you want to stir up "controversy", go ahead and stir....it's what this comment board is all about.

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 5:54

Should I thank the speculators for the rising gas prices Ben?

I got this one...(read the talking points this morning). If the result is positive for the consumer, it's the speculator. If the result is negative, it's Obama.

You can use this template for every issue. Including the cause of the plague in the dark ages...

By: BenDover on 5/17/12 at 6:03

It's actually because we're over the hump in the switch-over to summer blends and because demand is projected to be down because no one can afford to go on vacation, gd. I just threw in the 'speculators' because they are the specters who always drive the cost up so certainly they have a hand in driving it down, right?

By: yogiman on 5/17/12 at 6:09

gdiafarti,

You, and your fellow posters on this site can say anything in your hearts and ignorant minds about me you wish. I can only see you in one of two ways: you're either plain ignorant of the facts to accept a communist who is in the Oval Office illegally, or you're a fellow communist with him.

Which group are you with?

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 6:09

Yeah...right Ben. lol

It's always amusing to see how some people seem to think that the world revolves around the U.S.

It's per $100 loner based on 25% of appraised value for residential, loner. Commercial is 40%.

The ghost of McCarthy is alive and well...

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 6:15

We are not in the dumb-ass yogi group. HA HA HA HA HA!!!

By: Ummm... on 5/17/12 at 6:16

Obama isn't just a communist, Yogi forgot that he's an addicted, homosexual muslim from Timbuktu.

By: dargent7 on 5/17/12 at 6:21

Ummmm. Obama's a homosexual? Who knew.
He is though kinda cute.
Except for those ears.

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 6:24

He's got charisma, darge. It makes you ignore the ears.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 6:25

Dangerous people walk among us? The only danger about yogi is that someone forgets to change his diaper or that he links some dog too much. LOL

By: slacker on 5/17/12 at 6:28

Its been estimated that Obama can hear whispering up too 100 yards. 150 in low humidity.

By: Loner on 5/17/12 at 6:29

Thanks, Ben...let's see...for a $100,000 market value home the assessed value is $25,000, right?

The proposed increase is 53 cents per $100 in assessed value...that's 250 times 53 cents, right?

If so, the tax increase is $132.50 for a home with a market value of $100,000...am I right, Ben?

What is the current tax rate (before the proposed hike) and what would the new total annual tax bill be for a $100,000 (market value) home?

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 6:31

Yogi's a little cranky this morning. He read that report about minority babies outpacing Caucasian babies. He fears the end is near.

By: yogiman on 5/17/12 at 6:32

dgiafarti,

McCarthy's comments was in the 50s, before you was born. The communist party had gotten their left foot on the road in the early 1900s.

Back then, we had a congress working for the people. Today, they're working for themselves. The communist party has got to the top of the hill with Barry Soetoro (wanna bet that isn't his name) backed by congress.

If you understood why our founders put that "natural born citizen" requirement in our Constitution you might understand it a little better. There is no way under the law Obama (the name he's using) could qualify for that office. And to readily accept him to that office when you don't even know his legal name indicates absolute ignorance.

By: Kosh III on 5/17/12 at 6:33

Raspy: "I always like to stir controversy among the 14 or 15 participants on this board. The subject matter today is not worth the effort."

Then discuss something serious and weighty: What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

By: Loner on 5/17/12 at 6:34

The special interests have the ear of the POTUS....both sides are yanking on them....look at LBJ's ear's...same cause and effect:

$4.13 with a proposed new rate of $4.66

By: BenDover on 5/17/12 at 6:38

African or European?

By: slacker on 5/17/12 at 6:39

On subject, Stites is correct about the chamber. I believe they receive $300,000 tax dollars yearly, to pay for their dinners, beverages, assorted expenses, etc.. The taxpayers receive the chambers blessing for a tax hike.

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 6:40

Yogi understands the founders because he was born in the same era. Unfortunately, he was one of the commoners the founders were referring to when they said that enlightened men should speak for the rabble.

By: yogiman on 5/17/12 at 6:46

At my age, I'll be long gone before these new babies reach their takeover age, gdiafarti. You and your fellow co-posters are the ones that better worry. You'll become the minority, you know.

But then, you should accept it okay considering you're acceptance of someone you don't even know as your president. You know: Name, place of birth, actual parents....... Tell me, what do you know about him no one else knows? Can you certify his legal name? Birth place? Anything? Who his father is (or was)?

By: dargent7 on 5/17/12 at 6:46

"An unladen swallow"? That's how they referred to my ex-wife. She could swallow like the best of them.

By: slacker on 5/17/12 at 6:48

I wish Yogi would understand, that everyone knows his feeling about Obama, and move on to another subject. Maybe Jitterbugging, and Raccoon coats?

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 6:49

You and your fellow co-posters are the ones that better worry. You'll become the minority, you know.

Sounds like yogi has a little Nazi in him...maybe he can tell us where in the Constitution the founders established that Caucasians were to always be the majority?

Darge is right about yogi...

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 6:49

At my age, I'll be long gone before these new babies reach their takeover age, gdiafarti. You and your fellow co-posters are the ones that better worry. You'll become the minority, you know.

So yogi says he is no racist. His dishonesty knows no bounds.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/12 at 6:54

Darge is right about yogi...

Which part gdia; idiot, moron, dumb-ass, racist, head in ass?

By: dargent7 on 5/17/12 at 6:56

3/4th into a Presidency, and these "Birthers" are still on it....
I just hope and pray Obama wins a 2nd term, if only to cause cardiac arrest in these morons. The whole cast of FOX News, too.

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 6:57

He reminds me of a Grand Imperial Wizard of the KKK.

That part, nemo.

By: Loner on 5/17/12 at 7:01

Thanks, Ben...check my math, please...the existing tax bill is $1,032.50 per year; the new bill would be for $1,165.00, right?

I assume that there is also a school tax on top of the property tax, as we have here in NY, am I right on that...how much school tax on a home with a market value of $100,000?

Do any other taxes apply?

IMHO, your tax rate is pretty low, compared with here...I own a small home with a market value of $30,000 or so in Albion, NY....I rent it out...the total taxes on that place are about $2,500 per year.

I think that you folks are enjoying a cheap ride down there.

By: gdiafante on 5/17/12 at 7:01

I hope Romney picks Rubio, Darge. The birthers will implode...which is a good thing.
