Should we end the practice of Daylight Saving Time as one White House petition suggests, or is there reason to maintain it?

Oh.. never mind.

By: bfra on 3/12/13 at 10:03

slacker - Would that make us mountaineers? LOL

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 10:05

I was trying to help out Gatlinburg.. bfra.

By: bfra on 3/12/13 at 10:09

slacker - LOL but from the crowds I encountered, before I quit going, they don't need any help.

By: brrrrk on 3/12/13 at 10:10

Wait a minute, I'm a little confused here. I thought all you Southerners were keen on the idea of having all that extra searing heat and oppressive humidity during the summer days. I would think DST would be right up your proverbial alley?

By: bfra on 3/12/13 at 10:15

brrrrk - Not me! I like about 70 - 80 year round. LOL If you are going to wish, you might as well wish for "something".

By: yogiman on 3/12/13 at 10:27

The time zone is determined by the sun, BenDover. The time of daylight, or nighttime, will be the same as the time zone you're in.

Yawl ain't gonna change it without God's consent and blessings. Good luck, I believe He likes it as it is; especially after all these years.

By: bfra on 3/12/13 at 10:29

yogi dumbass, no one is trying to change the time "ZONE"!

By: yogiman on 3/12/13 at 10:30

Then wish you was on Yap, bfra. You won't have climate changes there.

By: Kosh III on 3/12/13 at 10:32

yogi opines
"And by the way, how did Hitler take over in Germany?"

After the 1932 elections, the Nazi's held the most seats in the Reichstag, in Jan 1933 Pres. Hindenburg appointed HItler as Chancellor.

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 10:32

yogi, God said you should go take a nap.. the rest of the day.

By: yogiman on 3/12/13 at 10:36

What do you call it if you want to change the time it's daylight, bfra? Daylight hours can only be in a zone determined by the sun. That is, unless you have a sun lamp. Then you can make it sunlight at night.

By: Kosh III on 3/12/13 at 10:36

The Pravda link doesn't work but whatever....

The October Revolution on Nov 7, 1917 was successful in large part because the NAVAL base at Kronstadt supported Lenin's coup.

How stupid can 1 troll be?

By: brrrrk on 3/12/13 at 10:41

They say, "give'm enough rope and they'll hang themselves"..... yogi's the only person I know that can "hang" himself with a shoe lace.

By: Jughead on 3/12/13 at 10:53

DST is a stupid waste of time. Created by a bunch of gov't idiots who had nothing better to do.

That's gonna take a mighty big toque, eh...... from now on communion will consist of fried bread followed by a Molson. :-)

By: gdiafante on 3/12/13 at 11:04

Actually Jughead (a very apt name), it was created by an entomologist and practically applied by countries in time of either war or energy crisis in order to save resources. Get your facts straight.

Good, slack, Vatican City will now have a hockey team...

Not all of will be fine, Loner. We have yogi, Rasputin and occasionally budlight. These three are always disturbed.

I don't mind DST; and I'm quite happy, thank you capt. My lymph nodes show no signs of the "C" word and my surgeon at Vanderbilt knew what she was doing. That's a lot to be grateful for.

I'm just glad the sun came up today, regardless of what time it was. Or what time it goes down.

Let's talk about Government overspending and over taxing. Bigger problem for us and that includes dems and republicans. In TN, the Queen of Per Diem in the state legislature is a big spender who does not do much for the "people".

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 11:11

gdiafante.. Vatican hockey is a done deal. But will they have to wear those Swiss Guard Pantaloons? Only the Pope knows.

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 11:24

Well, slacker,

I'm 'fixin' to take a nap. I just want to give you a little bit or more knowledge before I go to sleep.

Article II, Section 1of the U.S. Constitution states: No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.

To be a US citizen, a person must be born in the country or have at least one parent who is an American citizen and who is legally qualified to transfer their citizenship to their children.

First Congress determined the requirement to be a natural born citizen and the Third Congress reworded it slightly. Both parents must be citizens of the nation in which you are born.

Accepting his autobiography, Obama's father was a British subject and his mother was an 18 years old American citizen. Neither of them could transfer American citizenship to Barry under the laws of that time.

The law required any US citizen having a child with a non-citizen to have been physically present in the United States for at least 5 years after the age of 16 to transfer American citizenship.

Since, because of the law of 1961 (if that's the date he was born) neither of his parents could pass confer citizenship to their child.

Obama could only be a US citizen if he was actually born i n the United States. And with a Kenyan father and American mother, he could only be a native born citizen, not a natural born citizen.

But we still don't know where he was born, do we?

I hate anything the gov't does.

I have to turn the lights on when I rise in the morning now. How does that save any energy? And, we have plenty of friggin energy--why do idiot politicians think we lack electricity?

DST saves nothing, a useless exercise for people to feel warm, fuzzy, and green.

I hate liberals and gov't.

By: brrrrk on 3/12/13 at 11:38

Jughead days

"I have to turn the lights on when I rise in the morning now. How does that save any energy? And, we have plenty of friggin energy--why do idiot politicians think we lack electricity?"

And you turn your lights on later in the evening.... funny how that works out, eh?

By: yogiman on 3/12/13 at 11:44

By comparison, budlight, the 'national queen' is costing us a 'helluvalot' more than our 'state queen'.

My question is: By what law is 'her highness' using to take so many vacations every few weeks as our expense?

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 11:49

DST, and a lack of birth control pills, put Drive-In movies out of business.

The Jug pours out a measure or two of hate::

"DST is a stupid waste of time. Created by a bunch of gov't idiots who had nothing better to do."

"I have to turn the lights on when I rise in the morning now. How does that save any energy? And, we have plenty of friggin energy--why do idiot politicians think we lack electricity?

Jug uses the terms, "idiot(s)" and "stupid" with great frequency....his vocabulary seems to match his level of cognizance....and hate....bless his heart.

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 11:59

Loner, some good weed.. might lift Jug's spirits.

There was once a purpose, but like so many other things in our modern society, it is obsolete. The only useful purpose is a 6 month reminder to change the battery in your smoke alarm. I would rather not have that hassle every 6 months. Makes it too dark when you don't want it to be.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans unveiled their latest budget outline on Tuesday, sticking to their plans to try to repeal so-called Obamacare, cut domestic programs ranging from Medicaid to college grants and require future Medicare patients to bear more of the program's cost.
====================================================

Those repubs are willing to do anything but dip into their own over the top pay & perks. Their plan, let's put this all on the middleclass, we can't give up any of our cushy income.

5 Americans killed in Afghanistan helicopter crash...

http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/11/world/asia/afghanistan-helicopter-crash/index.html

WTF are we doing over there? The invasion was a stupid idea to begin with and our Peace Prize Prez is keeping the farce going....the War Super-Lobby, the Defense, Israel, Energy consortium, not the POTUS, calls the shots on the really serious stuff.....those guys still want that energy pipeline...and, as the Israelis say, " the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim", so let's give the Defense industry some more long-term corporate welfare by extending the "mission" in that Hell-hole...the graveyard of empires.

Bush's twin elective wars have nearly bankrupted the USA...maybe that was the Texan's actual mission as POTUS: the destruction of the union of American states....the whole debacle, including the financial meltdown may have been deliberate?

By: bfra on 3/12/13 at 12:14

Loner - Bush & Chaney are not sweating anything. They are living "high on the hog" with growing bank accounts every day. Their Arab buddies are still in cahoots with the oil bros..

By: bfra on 3/12/13 at 12:26

yogi - You better skip that nap & get to shoving those little books in everybody's face. Otherwise, you might get thrown out of the traitor's club.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/12/13 at 12:38

g, does that mean that hockey will now have a "hail Mary" play?

Krugman To Obama: Stop Listening To The GOP, It’s The Economy, Not The Deficit, Stupid
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/03/11/krugman-to-obama-stop-listening-to-the-gop-its-the-economy-not-the-deficit-stupid/

People still talk as if the deficit were exploding, as if the United States budget were on an unsustainable path; in fact, the deficit is falling more rapidly than it has for generations, it is already down to sustainable levels, and it is too small given the state of the economy.

Bear in mind that the budget doesn’t have to be balanced to put us on a fiscally sustainable path; all we need is a deficit small enough that debt grows more slowly than the economy. To take the classic example, America never did pay off the debt from World War II — in fact, our debt doubled in the 30 years that followed the war. But debt as a percentage of G.D.P. fell by three-quarters over the same period.

Yes, we’ll want to reduce deficits once the economy recovers, and there are gratifying signs that a solid recovery is finally under way. But unemployment, especially long-term unemployment, is still unacceptably high. “The boom, not the slump, is the time for austerity,” John Maynard Keynes declared many years ago. He was right — all you have to do is look at Europe to see the disastrous effects of austerity on weak economies. And this is still nothing like a boom.

I don't know, but I can't wait to see New Jersey play Vatican City.

By: gdiafante on 3/12/13 at 12:49

I don't think anyone is overly concerned about employment anymore, blanket. I think a lot of people have given up looking and I think employers are still squeezing blood from the rest of the turnips.

I'm sure that no one in Washington knows what the hell to do about it. And even if they did, they wouldn't. It might require compromise.

I said a dirty word.

By: slacker on 3/12/13 at 12:52

nazi, hi-jinks will ensue.. as the Vatican team inflate their baggy Pantoloons with helium. Look for some rule changes.
