I don't know how much influence a mayor has in getting that Music City Convention Center being built, but that alone was worth his election.
That will double the tourism to Nashville and double all businesses bottom line with increased revenue.
His bike program is a little stale and him taking the bus is whacky.
But, those are minor distractions.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 5:09

Yeah, but what is the nature of the "crossroads"? I checked the rest of the news items...no "crossroads" signs anywhere...was this debate topic pulled out of somebody's nether regions?

How about talking about the nine teenagers shot over the weekend at a Chattanooga, TN Christmas party?

I left a comment on that board.

By: dargent7 on 12/26/11 at 5:55

I think crossroads refers to he's half way thru his term.
In Dallas, 7 were killed in one house.
Dean has no control over idiots.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 6:15

"Crossroads"? That's an odd way to phrase, "mid-term", or "half-way point"...."crossroads" sounds like some sort of crisis situation, tipping point, paradigm shift, or imminent sea change, IMHO.

With all these "no discussion" and "no debate" multi-million dollar deals going down, I'd say the Mayor is in full control and is actively implementing his personal agenda. I don't see any "crossroads" here...looks like open highway.

Metro Council seems to rubber-stamp hizzoner's demands....they don't want to rock the boat, I suppose....they got a sweet deal going too.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 6:17

Oh yeah...Good morning, Nashville!

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 6:26

Mass shootings in Texas and Tennessee on Christmas...that's your Bible Belt for you....we know that Jesus packed heat...I hear that sort of heresy on Christian radio talkshows...the gunpowder ministries....the NRA-friendly evangelicals.

Meanwhile, in Nigeria, Islamists bombed Catholic churches....lots of carnage...not much medical aid for the wounded...horrific scenes.

In Iraq, it's Shia versus Sunni once again...scores killed last week.

And in Behtlehem...security was tight....very tight.

Looks like the "omnipotent" God of Abraham is powerless to step in and settle the ancient land dispute....GOP hopefuls are all playing the Judeo-Christian card....Holy Wars Suck.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 6:53

Any war sucks, Loner. Except for the leaders that put the soldiers in the war and the industries that are making money because of it.

I'll stay with my argument about putting the leaders that start it into a locked room and let the winner come out the door and take over their competitive nation.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 7:08

Holy Wars Suck in a peculiarly hypocritical way - the righteous rationale: "the ends justify the means" - devilish deeds are justified, by way of heavenly ends and Godly goals.

In a Holy War, both sides believe that God is on their side and that God loathes their enemy. Soldiers become martyrs and saints. Holy Wars are never fully resolved...they smolder...and often re-ignite years later.

Holy Wars suck time, troops and treasure from a nation..and they suck the decency out of humanity....I'll still carry my old sign: HOLY WARS SUCK.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 7:53

Holy wars are no more holy or justified than political wars, Loner. I'll stand by my argument by saying just put the "preachers" in a locked room and let them fight it out.

One man should not die for other "leaders" disagreements.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 8:09

I don't know why I try to reason with Yogi....no matter what one presents as evidence, he will draw his own preconceived conclusions. I never argued that Holy wars are more holy or justified than political wars...I argued the opposite position....so, Yogi agrees with me, but insists that I am wrong.

As for the preachers...they are members of the world's oldest profession: Holyman ..the Prostitute "profession" came much later....The age-old dilemma: earthly rewards competing with heavenly rewards. We seem to be hard-wired to "sin" and hard-wired to believe....there goes the intelligent design theory....just kidding....don't want to re-ignite a Holy War here.

Free will don't come free.

By: Moonglow1 on 12/26/11 at 8:30

Moonglow1: the War Against Teachers has begun in TN by stripping them of their right to collective bargaining. This also paves the way for Charter schools which are owned and operated by the usual hucksters. These Charters are financed by taxpayers. Amazing how these Unholy Greedy Tea Party Nuts steal public money In The Name of Free Enterprise. Free it is for the greedy dumb huckster CEOs enriching themselves at taxpayer expense.

Some think I am against capitalism: not true. However, capitalism no longer exists is the USA. We produce nothing. We elevate idiots in key corporate positions. Greed trumps innovation. Idiots reign supreme.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 8:35

Today is Protest Monday, once again...every Monday, 3-4PM, we keep our vigil. Making the front page of the local paper, last week, may result in more protesters coming out to join us today.

These are some of the ideas I'm considering for long-banner material....24 inch high, yellow duct tape letters on blue tarp substrate...cheap, durable and eye-catching....You can tie the banner to light poles, trees, sign posts...whatever...or human volunteers can man the banner.

Here goes:

I'm open to suggestions and constructive criticism.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 8:42

You're right, Loner,I make my own conclusions then decide my own decisions. I refuse to think like the everyone else just to be in line with them because they think they are right.

Even with only half a brain left I fell like I'm out thinking most people on this cite by their line of thoughts.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 8:52

Moonglow, "Charter" = "Scab"? Unionized versus scab labor? Or is teaching a profession, not skilled labor?

Professionals all have trade groups, lobbyists, PACS and such...teachers are no different.

Both labor and management have their corporate personage well-established...and now the Citizens Untied decision has suddenly and limitlessly empowered both sides...the "super-pacs" are already exercising their rights, in the Republican race....character assassination is the Modus Operandi...the weapon of choice.

The general election will undoubtedly be the most costly in human history....and it could be the most divisive in anyone's memory....this cannot be good for our country, IMHO.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 8:55

Yogi sez: "Even with only half a brain left I fell like I'm out thinking most people on this cite by their line of thoughts."

You go on thinking like that, Yogi.

Bless his heart.

By: Moonglow1 on 12/26/11 at 8:55

Moonglow1: Loner-i like Public Interest Yes, Special Interest No

Perhaps also consider Public $$$, Private Pockets.

Check out the article on the Nashville Occupiers. They are still here but do not get any national media attention. They should because they had the guts to protest CCA the prison operator. CCA lobbied for the Arizona immigration law.

Also Haslam is on pare with Scott Walker: restricting voters rights and killing collective bargaining. All happening while the masses pray and look to the heavens for salvation and the Teas laugh all the way to the bank. I want Haslam exposed on national television like Scott Walker.

Yogi: it is site not cite.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 8:59

Back to the topic of the day...Is Mayor Dean doing a better job as your mayor, than Gov, Haslam is doing as your governor?

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 9:03

Thanks for the feedback, Moonglow...I like your suggestion: "Public $$$, Private Pockets"....is that an original idea? If so, may I use it?

By: Moonglow1 on 12/26/11 at 9:03

Moonglow1: good point Loner. Apparently the Teas do not consider teaching a profession.

I am thinking the Teas are engaged in the "Oldest Profession. " They prostitute themselves for The Kochs and the ALEC. Apparently they do not realize they are being used.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 9:04

I'm not much on making person suggestions, Loner. I feel everyone should be able to think for themselves. If not, may God help them.

A thought on your "signs": If you don't have any special interest on a subject, how can you have a public interest on it?
If you don't have any $$$$ in politics, what are you going to use in your political arguments; p$$$? Ya gotta have 'sumptin'.
Uneconomic justice must be confirmed before you can have economic justice.
All wars suck, Loner, not just holy wars. You die in a war for only one of two reasons; Political or religious. I choose neither.

You're too far away from Tennessee to join you in your "arguments", Loner. And I'd probably be carrying a sign opposite to yours and that would put us in a fight for the issues we were disagreeing on and that would then be beneficial to the enemies we were opposing.

I'm gonna stay home. I don't like to fight. At least physically.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 9:11

Sorry, Moonglow1, I guess I misused the definition of "cite" instead of using the word "site".

By: Moonglow1 on 12/26/11 at 9:11

Moonglow1: Loner-yes the idea is original. I was thinking about how the Teas divert tax dollars to For Profit Companies to pay for wars, education, and health care insurance companies. Our tax dollars go into the hands of the CEOs of For Profit companies. This is the same for Charter Schools, For Profit Prisons, and many other companies.

We pay and they profit!!! I don't think that is capitalism. It is corporate welfare.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 9:14

I appreciate the feedback, Yogi.

"Fight"? No, if a fight breaks out, this old fart is going to duck & cover...or skeeedaddle....if a SWAT TEAM with a K-9 unit comes in....the lone one is not going to antagonize them....if they get me..shame on them...they nailed grampa..no prestige there....hopefully, at my age, I'm one of the cooler heads prevailing....not a hot-head looking for violence.

By: Moonglow1 on 12/26/11 at 9:15

Moonglow1: Dean is doing well and champions environmental issues. Perhaps the term crossroads was used because of his stance on the fairgrounds which generated controversy.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 9:16

Yea or nay, Moonglow?

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 9:21

Yeah, Dean got run over at that Fairgrounds crossroads....they scraped his political @ss off the asphalt....but he's all better now...according to reports....Dean knows the jingle: Hit by a car...Call William Mattar. Who's he gonna call?

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 9:25

Good morning people! You too yogi.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 9:33

Good morning, Captain.

Let there be peace in the NCP valley...'tis the season....think mistletoe & holly....be joyful & jolly.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 9:38

I hope you had a good xmas Loner. I sure have so far, except for the trip up. I have made plan that next year to take the western route and drive through Indiana. Western Ohio only gets worst as far as traveling. Goes.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 9:44

Not to bring a question up, but did you mean 'Haslam is on "pare" or "par" with Scott Walker?

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 9:48

Good morning, dumba..,

Hope you had a good Christmas with your children. Hold it between the white lines on your way back south. I still need you to argue with.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 9:55

Loner I heard this last night and nearly fell out of my chair. This say a lot for Gingrich and what his home state thinks of him.

Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry Fail to Qualify for Virginia Ballot

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 9:58

There is no argument yogi. Your wrong 99.99% of the time and the .01% is just dumb luck.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 10:09

See what I mean, dumba..?

You got your numbers reversed, as is ordinary with your comments.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:11

The Newt blew it....write-ins do not count in VA.

Like Cain, Newt was not serious in the early days...too little too late at this point?

Paul has organization...Mitt too....if Paul does not get the GOP nod, he may go Libertarian and be the spoiler....he has a loyal following.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:14

Boys, please, can we knock it off with the personal attacks and name-calling? It's friggin' Christmas time.....after New Years we can resume our usual sniping...whaddya say? Christmas truce on name-calling?

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 10:18

What I been hearing and reading, it looks as if Mitt is the man for The GOP. However that does not translate into a win for the Republicans. The Tea Bags have divide the party from conservatives to right-wing nuts.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 10:20

I'm not the one doing the name calling Loner. I am having a nice time.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 10:22

It is sunny hear today and the weather looks a lot bette than it dose in the south.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 10:29

shb here not hear.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:30

What's your 20, Cap'n?

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:32

If Mitt gets the nod, he'll need a strong Jesus man as his number two...Rev. Huckabee would work nicely...the Heretic and the Holyman....nice pairing, I'd say.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 10:35

I am in Ann Arbor again this year Loner.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:36

Mitt & Huck versus Barack & Biden....could happen...The Heretic and the Holyman versus the Muslim and the Meathead....this could be entertaining....like Pro-Wrestling without the folding chair weaponry.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/26/11 at 10:38

Huckabee would be better than Cain, but I think it will be some to the right of Mitt, but not to far.

Obama is rising in the polls now to 49% approval.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:40

If it's sunny there, the sunshine is heading my way...that's good....only 2 inches of snow this winter locally....ground is not frozen...Canada Geese still hanging around. A turtle was crossing the road the other day...the kids rescued it...was it a the fur-bearing snow turtle? No...the regular kind.

By: yogiman on 12/26/11 at 10:40

OK Loner,

I'll agree and buy it. Let's just keep our eyes and ears open and our mouths shut. But, boy!, come next Monday its Katie bar the door!

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:41

Cain is out...couldn't win an election for dog-catcher...he'd be violating the dogs.

By: Loner on 12/26/11 at 10:42

Hear that, Cap.n, Yogi is agreeing to a Christmas truce on name-calling...until next Monday...can you agree too?
