Let's talk about something else.
These TCP "Question of the Day" are 4th grade level.
Have Mike Burch write 3 columns a week.
I remember when they ran 5 of my LTE's in one week and it drove several to become institutionalized.
Those were the days.

How about we discuss how Obama has taken away one of the Teapublicans favorite talking points- "Democrats are soft on national security."
Regardless of whether you think he's politicizing Bin Laden's death, any honest Teapublican (and there are a few) has to admit that he has prosecuted the "war on terror" more enthusiastically than W. ever did. (And as far as "politicizing" goes, at least he hasn't shown up on the deck of an aircraft carrier with a big "mission accomplished" banner hung on it.)

By: dargent7 on 5/2/12 at 4:55

Ummm. Glad you're up.
Yes, the "Mission Accomplished" event.
Could they have found a bigger football to stuff in Bush's Air Force uniform/ shorts?
My dog can't even watch it.

By: dargent7 on 5/2/12 at 5:03

This just in... it's supposed to hit 90 degrees today. Breaking the record dating back to 1901.
A hundred and ten years ago it was warmer than today?
Al Gore is full of shit.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 5:16

I think that there should not be any taxes and with the money people save we can then become our own Public Works, Police, and Fire Department. There will not be any need for schools or libraries, because the citizen are to dumb to no what they got.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 5:23

Now we know what this old fart has for Brains. He has got a head full of Braids and only half of them work. LOL

No wonder he can’t figure out who President Obama is.

By: yogiman on 5/1/12 at 11:25
I'm afraid your "braid" is in much sadder shape, gdiafante, for backing a usurper in office without question.

It's hard to understand how a gung ho vet can back a man as their possible CIC whom they have no idea who he is.

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 5:44

Why wouldn't the President politicize Bin Laden's death? It's an election year and that is one of his (best) accomplishments. He'd be a fool to not take advantage of that.

You know, kind of the way 9/11 was politicized in 2004.

That's what politicians do. Honestly, if it surprises you or gives you (faux) outrage, stop following politics.

TDOT has started a campaign to stop traffic deaths in Tennessee. One of the tactics being used is the overhead electric signs. Yesterday morning the signs read that 288 people have died on TN highways this year. That is more than all of last year. By the time I was returning back home, the signs read 301.

By: Ummm... on 5/2/12 at 6:01

And those 13 people were killed because they were reading the signs instead of watching the road. (Kidding, but not funny.)

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 6:04

Darge, you apparently don't understand the difference between weather and climate.

By: Rasputin72 on 5/2/12 at 6:06

What tax increase? The majority of residents (based on the public school population) are wards of Davidson County. These people live off the dole and in public housing or in housing unfit for tax. The people who live in Green Hills,Hillwood and Belle Meade will of course gripe to some degree and then succumb to the tax increase. They are older and comfortable in this period of life. They just do not have the energy to fight what is rushing into the entire country.

Now the people of Goodlettsville and Bellevue and Donelson and maybe even a few poor souls in Antioch should be up in arms over this tax increase. The ones with children should be making a bee-line out of Davidson County.

It would be interesting to see the tax rates in Cheatham,Dickson,Robertson,Sumner Williamson,Wilson and Rutherford County as compared with the $4.66 Davidson County rates. It would be even greater if both the Tennessean and the City Paper were to publish those rates.

By: Rasputin72 on 5/2/12 at 6:10

I saw a comment on the Tennessean that mentioned that renters will not be facing this tax. I hardly think that an apartment or home owner who has rental property will not pass any additional cost on to the renter and that includes tax increases.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 6:11

LOL Ummm

I have notice a growing hostility in drivers in the Nashville area over the past few years. It is getting dangerous out there; it is like the drivers are at war.

By: treehugger7 on 5/2/12 at 6:24

Drivers are idiots in Nashville--especially tailgating. Even if you drive 5 or 10 miles above the posted limits, there are drivers who aren't happy. On Ellington Parkway, the tailgating is insane. Or they drive slow in the left lane, so they can talk or text without being interrupted. Traffic patrols could bring in lots of money just from that one road.

By: BenDover on 5/2/12 at 6:46

Obama cashed in all of the Bush's administration's hard-gained intel. for a cheap political romp and a pack of cigarettes.

Instead of picking these guys up and getting the info to drive the next level of assaults Obama just kills them with Drone attacks that would have been highly criticized for collateral damage if it was Bush pulling the trigger.

Then on the one grab he did authorize for bin Laden he completely neutralizes the benefit of gathering the proximate intel. by crowing about the mission on international television before any of the intel could be actualized.

That said though, his narcissism is what is really off-putting. The man's favorite word must be "I" . His personal political victory lap over the decade of effort that went into finding bin Laden and Seal Team 6's biggest coup will back-fire on him.

By: Ummm... on 5/2/12 at 6:46

gd, in darge's defense, you don't have to be in denial about climate change to think Al is full of shit. (Even so, he would have been a far better president than "Bushie.")

By: Ummm... on 5/2/12 at 6:50

If the 9/11 attack had happened when a Democrat was in office, do you think the Teapublicans would have blamed it on the Democrats being "soft?" Their hypocrisy is just unbelievable- that's right, little Bennie, Obama only got Osama because of all of W's hard work. What a crock...

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 6:52

More whining Ben...notice how people can't be happy that we killed Bin Laden because it may cause them to give Obama just a smidge of credit.

And, like I said, it is an accomplishment...so Ben, and your ilk, put a cork in it and be glad that there's one less nutjob terrorist in the world.

By: bfra on 5/2/12 at 6:55

Bush didn't want to offend his buddies "the bin Laden family & crooks in his oil cartel) by gettin Osama!

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 6:55

The likes of yogi and others would only call this another tax, to raise money. What the morons like him don’t seem to grasp, is this is a tax that they only have to pay when they break the SEED LAW.

By: BigPapa on 5/2/12 at 6:55

The City paper is best when it's dealing with issues like this. The national stuff.. seriously it's too far removed from us, plus it just falls into Dem or Rep.-completely uninteresting.

By: BenDover on 5/2/12 at 6:58

Well let's watch the polls over the next few weeks and see where this obamanarcissist policy gets him.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 7:01

Before man left Africa for other parts of the world, some 20,000 years ago, a plot was born. An evil strategy to take over the world and this plan was call operation Obama.

By: Loner on 5/2/12 at 7:02

Good morning, Nashville.

This topic was covered yesterday on a comment board for that story...apparently the Editors of the NCP are providing this group with day-old, already-been-chewed topics for discussion...I don't think that the realize what they have here on this site....they treat us like a slop hog who acts as a 4-legged garbage pail down on the farm.

Dean wants to keep the 50 cops that were hired under the federal stimulus package....that's what Music City needs, more cops, more busts more police-state tactics...yeah the 535 million-dollar Convention Center should be packed every night, now that the mean streets of Nashville have been ethnically cleansed by the beefed-up police units.....can't wait to book a room in that little island of safety located in a sea of violence.

By: govskeptic on 5/2/12 at 7:03

This increase should come as no surprise to anyone. You can't rebuild
an entire downtown, buy a few votes from Council members that have
long awaited projects, and not take advantage of the current over
appraisals of most properties on the tax roles. While doing so, make
sure the amount is just below that which would trigger the automatic
vote by the public. This Mayor get his advice from the top Chamber
members, Gaylord leadership, and his huge PR firm as to how to
maneuver a stubborn public and doling council! Not yet a Michael
Bloomberg, but he's trying!

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 7:06

Polls ony represent trends, Ben. It's really far too early to be anticipating their release every week. Wake me up after the conventions...

By: Loner on 5/2/12 at 7:07

I hope that they keep the cop who could smell marijuana at a distance...the human K-9 cop...the guy who could smell Cannabis growing inside people's homes, from the street...that guy should be retained...saves on the expensive training a dog to do that job.....give him a raise...Sergeant Sniffman to the rescue!

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 7:10

Woof, woof Loner

By: Loner on 5/2/12 at 7:15

Bush & Cheney politicized the 9-11 attacks for over seven years...every day we heard about the threats and the actions needed to thwart the threats...they worked it and they over-worked it. Bush started a war with Iraq, in order to get re-elected.....and now the GOP criticizes BHO for taking a bow?

Now, Obama is taking his bow for snuffing Bin Laden, something Bush-Cheney never really pursued. Bin Laden was a necessary boogie man for the Junior Bush regime.....Bush & Cheney needed a live enemy, not a dead one...they would never have snuffed the guy....they needed him too much.

When a Nobel Peace Prize Winner assassinates a political enemy, we should all be a little bit concerned, IMHO.....I'm not celebrating.....go ahead, call me a traitor.

By: bfra on 5/2/12 at 7:17

I didn't find it unusual that someone could smell marijuana smoke outside a house. It has a very rank, distinctive smell. &

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 7:24

Bingo Loner. I think you got Cheney pegged. Bush was not that smart or evil to come up with that.

By: govskeptic on 5/2/12 at 7:29

It wasn't marijuana smoke, it was just growing plants inside a house or
basement. With additional training these supermen may learn to hear
it growing!

By: Captain Nemo on 5/2/12 at 7:33

You can come out now yogi I'm going to work.

By: slacker on 5/2/12 at 7:36

bfra, that officers nose is insured by Loyds Of London. He keeps it covered when off duty. A nearby careless fart, could cause hospitalization.

By: yogiman on 5/2/12 at 7:37

Isn't it odd timing Barry went to Afghanistan to sign an agreement on Bin Laden's death "birthday"?

Wonder how much it cost us as campaign money for him.

By: Ummm... on 5/2/12 at 7:45

Loner, I share your concern about assassinations, but I don't think you can characterize Osama as merely a "political" enemy.

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 7:55

Loner, first, the peace prize was unwarranted. Second, Bin Laden was responsible for thousands of American deaths. Good riddance.

The only regret I have is that they didn't release the photos so we could revel in that dead SOB's demise.

By: yogiman on 5/2/12 at 8:04

The quietness should make you wonder if the man killed was actually Bin Laden. I understood it was because of a religious factor. When did religion become a hiding factor in the US?

And have you not ever wondered why the Navy Seals that performed that mission died in a plane crash just a few weeks later?

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 8:08

I understand why the photos were not released, yogi, I just would have liked to see a dead Bin Laden. Call it blood lust, revenge, or whatever. America changed after 9/11, and I think not for the better.

Yeah, another conspiracy, yogi...yawn.

By: Loner on 5/2/12 at 8:34

Bfra, Gov is right, the cop could smell growing cannabis inside folks homes...from a distance....Slacker's timing is impeccable, LOL....Ummmm is right, OBL was more than just a political enemy, but I did not want to go off on a tangent.....GD is right, good riddance to OBL....he regents that no postmortem photos were released...I regret that OBL was not taken alive...IMO, he would have sang like a canary, revealing to his followers that he was a coward...now, he looks like a martyr.

Yes, Obama timed the signing of the agreement to coincide with OBL's death...a GOP POTUS would do the same.....it's just good PR...the sore losers of 2008 are still sore and they are gonna lose again in November.....the gnashing of teeth will be audible.

By: Loner on 5/2/12 at 8:43

Gd, if you put a sheet of tin foil over your skull and fashion it into a skullcap shape and then re-read Yogi's 9:04 post, it will make sense...but I strongly suggest that you do not try that at home without a partner standing by, ready to remove the "helmet"...just in case you "snap".....good luck....be careful.

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 8:47

I agree, a tin-foil decoder is the only way to understand his posts, Loner.

By: slacker on 5/2/12 at 9:15

Skeptic, Dean doesn't have to worry about the stubborn public, the council will of course approve the tax hike. Next up a govt. subsidized baseball stadium. Complete with no property taxes, all concession sales, and parking fee's, to the out of town team owners. The city will even furnish security with those 50 newly obtained police officers
It's good being Mayor.

By: Loner on 5/2/12 at 9:34

Gotta run...business to attend to...see ya later!

By: dargent7 on 5/2/12 at 9:45

Weather and climate? They are different?
But, if today in 2012, it's as hot, or not as hot than it was in 1901, that blows Al's theory away.

By: gdiafante on 5/2/12 at 9:50

Yes, Darge. You're singling out one weather event, a hot day, and saying it's a climate trend. Look at the averages.

By: yogiman on 5/2/12 at 10:31

You comment you would like to see the pictures of Bin Laden's death but you understand why they weren't shown. Do; do you know Bin Laden was actually killed? How many lies has Obama told since taking office?

Can you explain why those Navy Seals involved in the strike died on a plane crash just a few weeks later? Was that an accident, or a determined incident?

By: brrrrk on 5/2/12 at 10:31

I smell hypocrisy..

Senator Scott Brown's daughter insured under Obamacare

By: yogiman on 5/2/12 at 10:35

As far as weather is concerned, Al Gore is as full of s... as a Christmas turkey. Where did he get his education on climatology... if he did.

I've not seen any evidence of it on any of his political records.

By: brrrrk on 5/2/12 at 11:08

yogiman said

Talking about evidence....

"All human intelligences are more or less enlightened and cultivated. By what fatality is it that the science of God has never been explained? The most civilized nations and the most profound thinkers are of the same opinion in regard to the matter as the most barbarous nations and the most ignorant and rustic people. As we examine the subject more closely, we will find that the science of divinity by means of reveries and subtleties has but obscured it more and more. Thus far, all religion has been founded on what is called in logic, a 'begging of the question;' it supposes freely, and then proves, finally, by the suppositions it has made." - J. Meslier, 1732
