Up for Debate: Death of an American ambassador

Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 12:06am

What's your reaction to the violence in Benghazi, Libya, that left a U.S. ambassador dead along with members of his staff? If it's true the violence leading to the deaths was prompted in part by an American-made video that criticized the Prophet Muhammad should those who promoted the video be held responsible or reprimanded in some way?

d7 - That doesn't negate that, each individual should be held accountable for their own actions.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 8:50

Thanks, Loner. I feel honored. :)

By: BenDover on 9/13/12 at 9:00

Romney's criticisms were/are valid.

By: BenDover on 9/13/12 at 10:00

Romney's criticisms were/are valid.

Is that right, Ben? You certainly are a die hard Republican....standing by his man...no matter what.

Willard jumped the gun...could not wait until after 9-11 to shoot his mouth off...turns out, President Obama did not issue or vet the statement that came out of the US embassy in Cairo, which was issued BEFORE the riots.....how could the statement be seen as Obama sympathizing with the rioters?

Romney has chosen a poor candidate to champion... inciting a riot is not a Constitutionally protected right. His reluctance to admit his misjudgment and errors is an indication that the man is far from being presidential...he's a hot head who tried to exploit a tragedy for political gain...on a day of national mourning....the man is an insensitive lout and a self-deluding fool.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 9:13

You did your homework, Bn....you get a gold star.

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 9:18

Loner - And you get 5 GOLD STARS for your 10:11 comment. Ben is past delusional he has caught yogitus from his brother.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 9:22

If I were to advise our President, I'd advise him to let Romney destroy himself....take the high road....remain cool, calm and collected as Willard gets increasingly desperate...if you must refer to Mr. Romney do it with the tone of charity towards a fool...."bless his heart" etc.

Romney's only hope is for US Jews to follow Allen Dershowitz' advice to US Jews...he is encouraging them to bolt the Democratic Party in the swing states...his allegiance is to Israel, not to the US and Allen thinks that Romney is the better choice for Israel. Certainly, Romney's demonstrated contempt for Muslims dovetails in nicely with the Israel lobby's ambitious agenda.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 9:24

Thank you, Bfra, I'm speechless...

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 9:28

Loner - I have to doubt that.:-)

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 9:30

Loner - Now if you get that 4:20 award again today, are you adding on to your trophy room? LOL

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 9:36

You read my plan of action, Bfra.....the 4:20 thing requires some skill and faith....my PC will show 5:20 EST (4:20 Nashville time), but my cell phone will show 5:19.....I have to wait...hold my fire, until just the right moment....figuring in processing time at the NCP end too...it's partly art and partly science.....and partly partying...I earned those awards that sit on my virtual mantle-shelf....I thank the nuns.....and my mom & dad...wait....no speeches....

By: gdiafante on 9/13/12 at 9:45

Ben's nuts. Plain and simple. How can anyone think the movie didn't kick this off...

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/story/2012/09/12/after-attacks-in-egypt-and-libya-usa-asks-why/57770610/1

The protests were planned. They were then manipulated into a greater attack that resulted in what we have now.

And Blanket's posts are spot on. Romney, and the other usual stooges on here, are looking to score political points about anything. Pathetic.

By: BenDover on 9/13/12 at 9:59

Nah... Romney's critics and the media are just panting about having another... "Postpone my Campaign to deal with the financial crisis" like albatross to try to hang around Romney's neck like they did McCain.

The reason you guys see it the way you do is because you are thoroughly inclined to see it that way. It's a confirmation bias and self-reinforcing mania of Dutch Tulip proportion.

Back atcha Ben & your few cohorts on this board, also.

I thought blinders were mainly for mules, asses & work animals. But we have a few repubs on this board that must be wearing them. On second thought???? :-)

Many questions still remain. The online "film" that apparently provoked the attack seems thrown-together and badly over-dubbed to create maximum insult to Islam. It has been promoted by some of the most discredited conspiracy entrepreneurs on our side of the Atlantic, including the "Reverend" Terry Jones, who advocated Koran-burning in the past. The American principle of defending free speech cannot be allowed to be compromised by fanatics anywhere for any reason.

OK, so when a bunch of anti-americans burn a U.S. flag, we should take this stance: "The American principle of defending free speech cannot be allowed to be compromised by fanatics anywhere for any reason."

These flag burners are as offensive to some as the koran burners and muslim knockers are to some. So does that mean the next time a bunch of muslims burn an american bible or flag, we should riot at their embassy and kill their diplomats? Or if the illegal mexicans burn a flag, we should riot at their embassy?

Somebody made a distasteful and inflammatory movie. So what? It's done all the time. Artists peeing on Christ and making other mockeries of Jesus Christ in the 20th or 21st century has never caused anyone to lose their life.

These muslim fanatics remind me of the people who sometimes riot in the US: they will riot if they win a ball game sometimes and riot if they don't win a ball game sometimes. It's random free will destruction and meehem!

So, no the movie guy should not be punished for freedom of speech. After all, you people on this post make fun of yogi, me and others all the time. You all slam us, defame us and sometimes I feel like you all are purposefully trying to provoke one of us to meehem. So, ya'll little old peepickingpeople are as guilty of inciting someone as the maker of the film is. It's just that for ya'll, ya'll are hiding behind those screen names (so you think).

Hey Yogi, have a nice day. Wow! It's sunny and pretty outside. While the Ambassador's family is grieving, the dumb nuts on this post are pontificating. Wish some of them would have worked at the embassy so they could experience first hand the "freedom to kill" over nothing that they think these nut cake rioter muslims have. (Gee that was mean spirited -- I should be ashamed of myself). But I'm not.

By: slacker on 9/13/12 at 10:09

Those barbarians are tough film critics. We should send some old Elvis movies over there, might cheer those fanatics up a bit. ''Clam Bake'' comes to mind.

The Iranian nuke bum question, will bring this to a head.
Everyone bashing Mittens, would somehow rationalize, Obama saying something similar.

The debates will be high drama.
Vote ''Mittens.''

By: budlight on 9/13/12 at 10:09

meehem is misspelled; could someone use spell checker and correct that for me? LOL

By: budlight on 9/13/12 at 10:11

"mayhem" aka anarchy

By: Ummm... on 9/13/12 at 10:15

The axiom of partisanship ending at the water's edge isn't convenient for Romney- desperate candidates do desperate things, apparently. The fact that Little Bennie and the other Teapublican acolytes find nothing wrong with attacking the president while the country is being attacked overseas shows just how poisonous their brand of partisanship has become. And on the anniversary of 9/11 to boot!

By: pswindle on 9/13/12 at 10:16

Poor Mitt , he can't help it, he was rasied with a silver foot in his mouth via Anne Richards.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 10:18

I've been wondering how you pore fokes can be so outlandish on your arguments against a man that has been willing to identify himself in his run for the presidency but you speak nothing but "love and respect" for a man whom you have no idea just who in the hell he is.

Do you only have to be a dumolcrapper to follow the trail of your favorite usurper?

By: slacker on 9/13/12 at 10:24

On second thought.. ''Harum Scarum'' would be more appropriate.
Elvis got his baggy pants, and acting chops on, in that piece of work.

By: BigPapa on 9/13/12 at 10:24

I'd think this is the best time for a candidate to speak up. Go on and show us some of your colors before we elect you and find out you can't handle the international side of the job.
As this goes on The Empty Suite continues to prove himself to be the nations #1 affirmative action hire. I sure with Hillary had won.

By: BigPapa on 9/13/12 at 10:27

*wish*

By: Ummm... on 9/13/12 at 10:38

Loner, regardless of the gold star being withheld, I reserve the right to offer respect only to those who show themselves to be deserving. Little Bennie doesn't meet the criteria, I'm afraid.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 10:46

Slack is right there with the one-liners....thanks, Slack, we needed that.

Ben still denies that this Holy War business is sucking Uncle Sam into a quagmire and engendering a sense of hopelessness. I'm afraid that's the case.

Of course, the Democratic campaign in 2004 did not in any way consist of " al Qaeda talking points about quagmire and hopelessness", as Dr. Dover claims. The Dems, like the GOP are self-bullshitizing.....they take the Defense, Israel & Energy campaign cash too....both parties see US foreign policy objectives through that distorted lens.

Both of the major political party platforms this year have text that was written in Israel or at least vetted by the Israelis....AIPAC is the messenger boy to Congress and the political parties; AIPAC is the conduit through which Israeli leaders send their demands.

Just compare both platforms for 2012...Israel gets more attention than any state within our union of states get....and the fawning language in both texts is eerily familiar.....Israel is calling the shots in the Middle East....we are behaving as a vassal state to the Jewish State....the Israelis certainly are getting their money's worth.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 10:49

Just think BigPapa,

If Barry hadn't have "talked" Hillary out of the race we could have had one President for the price of two.

The Clintons knew Obama was not legally qualified for that office. What stunt did Obama pull to make Hillary drop out? Why did he make her the Sec. of State? To keep her mouth shut, perhaps?

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 10:55

pswindle,

How do you equate Romney being raised with a foot in his mouth and Barack Obama was raised with communist Muslim feet in his mouth? Because Barry deserve it because he had more feet in his mouth?

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 10:57

Papa, I do not want the Clinton's to extend their political dynasty, Ferdinand & Imelda Marcos style....it was bad enough when the Bush family rigged the 2000 elections making the USA look like a banana republic....I do not care for "son of....", "wife of....", "daughter of.....", "brother of......", "sister of......" or "husband of......" political candidates.

Nepotism is for banana republics, not the USA.

By: Loner on 9/13/12 at 10:58

I gotta roll, kids....see ya later!

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 10:59

One thing you can say about these repub dodo heads, dumb knows no boundaries!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 11:08

Heaven forbid any of these folks get their facts straight before they post!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 11:13

Fox News actually televised the ambassador's body. Talk about lack of decency and respect.

By: gdiafante on 9/13/12 at 11:40

"Empty Suit" must be the new GOP talking point...papa's right on point...

I'm putting Ben's posts on par with yogi...too much BS and not enough sanity. Ignore.

By: Ummm... on 9/13/12 at 11:43

Oh by the way, Little Bennie the word you were looking for in your 11:22 post would be "breaches." ("Breeches" are pants.) You're welcome.

By: bfra on 9/13/12 at 11:46

gdiafante - Agree! Ben, bud & yogi are on even par. Ben just tries to use bigger words, but still BS. Ignore is appropriate!

By: Ummm... on 9/13/12 at 11:51

Daniel Klaidman of "The Daily Beast" has reported that Romney asked his VP prospects for 10 years of tax returns! Hypocrisy, thy name is Mitt Romney.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 12:01

“As president, one of the things I’ve learned is you can’t do that -- that, you know, it’s important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts, and that you’ve thought through the ramifications before you make them,” Obama told CBS News in an interview to be broadcast in its entirety Sept. 16 on the program “60 Minutes.”

Some prominent Republicans shared that view. Romney “will find out that first reports from the battlefield are always incorrect,” Richard Armitage, the former deputy Secretary of State under Republican President George W. Bush, said in an interview yesterday. “This should be his mantra, so he can speak in a deliberate manner, and not have to repent at his leisure later.”

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-09-12/romney-criticized-for-handling-of-libya-protests-death

Prominent members within the GOP are critical of Romney, including the former deupty SOS under Bush! So it's not just a bunch of liberals having a fit!

By: Ummm... on 9/13/12 at 12:08

Blanket, none other than Peggy Noonan has criticized Romney's ill-conceived remarks, and said that at a news conference he "looks like Richard Nixon."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/13/12 at 12:11

Yep, that's not good for ole Mitt.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/13/12 at 12:53

Ben is having a fit, because his candidate is falling apart before his eyes. He blames the Democrats, the News Media, al-Qaeda, Liberals and the kitchen sink. Everyone is to blame, but Romney. He can’t admit that a CEO is a lousy choice for a president.

By: yogiman on 9/13/12 at 12:54

bfra,

Until NCP tells me to stay off this site, I'm going to use the same privilege you and your "buddies" take for granted.

You few think can say what you think but anyone that doesn't agree with you should stay off this site. No way, Hosea. You can post what's on you feeble mind and I'll respect your privilege, but don't give me that crap I shouldn't post what I think on this site simply because you are "offended" and don't think I should.

Grow up, children.
