Up for Debate: Discrimination in 'reality' shows

Friday, April 20, 2012 at 12:48am

Do the plaintiffs in the federal complaint filed against ABC raise a good point? Are "people of color" poorly represented on "reality" television programs and should those programs be expected to adjust accordingly?

If you want an assist from the after-world I'd suggest consulting the dead Indians from the WalMart out Charlotte. Last time they got p*ssed about construction disturbance they sent a couple of F4 tornadoes through down-town.

"I want you to go into that Indian artifact museum and find my peace pipe" "which one is it" "It's the one that says Bad M_ F_".

Loner, we're short on thespians, but long on hungry guitar players.
Our firm is mobile, we do all our work in bars.
They're afraid we'll sue if they kick us out.

Meanwhile radical Islam washes over Western Europe. The ideals of democracy now to meet the boot of sharia law.

Turns out unchecked multiculturalism is a failed experiment. Sarkozy's done... and those of us who do not learn from history will be doomed to repeat it.

My point has been mischaracterized....

And right after claiming victim status, Ben proceeds to mischaracterize my point. He wrote, "Loner tried to made a hyperbolic point (using his old Zionist apartheid canard) that Christians in the CSA were the cause of slavery and I pointed out that the institution of slavery was largely fought by Christians."

I never claimed that "Christians in the CSA were the cause of slavery".

The causes of slavery are ancient....might makes right...why work, when others can be enslaved and put to work?

What caused and still causes people to engage in slavery? I'd say that greed, slothfulness, xenophobia, hate, rage, man's inhumanity to his fellow man.... and a few other cardinal sins are the causative agents for human enslavement. And they do it, because they can get away with it....same reason your dog licks his genitals...because he can.

Loner (as usual) is right on this issue.

While I will agree it is interesting that of 23 seasons, not a one is anything other than white...this lawsuit is complete bull.

Ohhh the guy played arena football. Sounds like Al Bundy reincarnated. I think we need pics...maybe the guy is just plain ugly. I mean the whole point of the stupid show is to have people drool over the lead person...if your ugly...it don't matter...your not getting on...nor should you. If Hooters can only hire good looking women as it's business theme, then the same defense can be used for this show....

Maybe I should offer some legal advise to ABC and cash in....or join the suit as a gay man claiming discrimination.....

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 8:14

Point conceded lone one. Your slur of religion was a subtle sub topic of your post and not the main thrust. The main thrust was do draw a moral equivalency between the horrible reputation of southern slave-owners and Israel.

I just wonder why it's never reported in our media that those 'angry youths' rioting all over Western Europe are actually the angry Muslim youths.

Islam has an entirely different ideal of a 'melting pot' than we do.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 8:33

Thank you, Ben, you are a class debater...a master of the art.

You wrote, "The main thrust was do draw a moral equivalency between the horrible reputation of southern slave-owners and Israel." By adding the word "reputation" you remain in denial Ben....you are intimating that the Southern slave owners were good but had a bad reputation.

But again, to clarify and restate my point(s), let me cut/paste the pertinent parts.

I posted the following text at 7:07:

"... the supporters of the CSA and the supporters of the Jewish state do seem to share core values.

The Confederacy was based upon race-based supremacy...the Jewish state is based upon that too....the Confederates were devoutly religious and believed that God was on their side...The Jews in Israel are devout believers, for the most part, and they also believe that G-d is on their side.....The confederates believed that a noble end - their own state - justified the violent means to achieve that goal....the Zionists in the Jewish state feel exactly the same way.....the Confederates felt an existential threat.....so do the Israelis.

The list of shared values between Zionism and the CSA is quite extensive..."

One more thing, Rasputin first brought up the CSA - Israel analogy, not me...I was responding. And yes, apartheid exists in the Occupied Territories for the stateless Arab Muslims residing there...pointing the truth out is not a "canard".

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 8:39

Quick Quiz, part 2:

Who said:

"I fear that down the road the Democratic Republic of Texas may well be Liberty's last stand."

A. Davy Crockett
B. Jim Bowie
C. Ben Dover
D. Gov. Rick Perry
E. David Koresh

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 8:41

lol loner. I hesitated when I wrote the word 'reputation' because I noticed it could be ambiguously interpreted as a defense rather than a clarification of the idea that you were trying to impose that 'reputation' on Israel.

I left it in to see where it would go. Touche, I believe, is the correct term. I expected no less from a fellow master-debater, as skilled as you my friend.

"Apartheid", another example of hyperbole... 'occupied', too, ignores the history. I stand by my use of 'canard' in the midst of our little rhetoric battle.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 8:52

Ben, when Israel not only defended its 1967 borders in the 6-day war, it expanded them and has occupied them ever since....these are the Occupied Territories , not the Disputed Territories as the Israel lobby is now calling them....you drank their Kosher Kool-Aid Ben.

After seizing the land, the Zionist Jews started colonizing it..they bulldozed the Arab homes and erected an apartheid wall to enclose and protect the government-sponsored, Jews Only housing developments in the West Bank...that's apartheid, Ben.

The Israelis tried to colonize Gaza too, as an apartheid state, but they quit that and now they just blockade the place...air.land & sea ...this is a US-bankrolled isolation of these poor bastards. Gaza is an open-air prison for stateless Arabs displaced by the Zionists.

And folks wonder why the Arabs might hate us....it's the Kool-Aid.

So... retired football players suing the NFL, over not being warned that repetitious brain slams, on brain-pan, can cause future problems.
NFL counters with: you dopes should try out for reality tv.

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 9:05

It's not as simple as that and you know it loner.

Israel has offered to compromise every border in question except those necessary to maintain their defenses. Arafat never would compromise... nor will Hamas because it is the Jew hatred that fuels their political power and they cannot thrive without the big-nosed boogie man and the evil Satan of America to point to and say, 'You see... your suffering is because their plenty'!".

By: yogiman on 4/20/12 at 9:07

But, Loner, my dog doesn't lick her genitals... because she can't. What's she supposed to do, get mad and get another dog to lick her?

By: yogiman on 4/20/12 at 9:22

I agree with you, BenDover. I've never known Israel to start a war. They were being attached from all sides when they surprised the hell out or their neighbors when they responded.

Never before or since, has a nation fought and won 6 wars in 6 days. But it's been argued they should give their enemies back the land they lost because of their war against Israel.

Israel doesn't owe it to them.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 9:26

Ben Dover's 10:05 post has that Made-In-Israel look. Same old BS...that the Arabs hate us because we in the USA have "plenty". They hate us because we give their brutal oppressors plenty of guns & money...that's why they hate us, Ben.

Arafat compromised enough to earn a Nobel Peace prize, Ben...The Nobel Peace Prize 1994 was awarded jointly to Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin ...what more could anyone expect of the man...it was the Israelis who bargained then and now in bad faith.

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 9:34

Loner, the Nobel Peace prize has lost its luster. Arafat was a conniving shyster.
He was like some we have here, an opportunist.

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 9:34

You know Nobel Peace prizes are a dime a dozen, loner. It's like sitting on the UN human rights committee.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 9:34

Yogi must have cheered when the Israelis attacked the USS Liberty during that war and killed 34 US sailors and maimed dozens more...it was a long and coordinated air & sea attack...finally, at point blank range...the Israelis claimed, "mistaken identity"....LBJ whitewashed the Naval Inquiry...Israel was exonerated and given more US aid....guys like Ben & Yogi still think that Israel is our closest ally...they have never joined US forces on the battlefield or at sea...except to attack us.

BTW, my source on the Liberty is a local survivor... we had coffee at the Java Junction one morning..I heard the graphic, horrific truth....first hand, from this eyewitness...not the Israeli-LBJ bullshit story....the Israelis intended to sink the ship with all aboard....it was a prolonged thing, not a few shots in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, as claimed ...the Jews knew exactly what they were doing.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 9:37

Yogi wrote: "But, Loner, my dog doesn't lick her genitals... because she can't. What's she supposed to do, get mad and get another dog to lick her?"

Go ahead, lick her genitals, Yogi, she licked yours all those years, right?

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 9:37

The 'brutal oppression' is mostly as a result of what we call here in the states, 'terrorist acts'.

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 9:45

Dang... in all of this Zionist bashing my Pulp Fiction reference was lost.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 9:52

Ben, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

The Israelis killed the first UN moderator, Count Bernadotte, in cold blood,, automatic weapon at point blank range....a member of that gang went on to become Israeli PM...others in the Stern gang and the Irgun became national heroes for their terrorist work.

The Israelis perfected the art of state-sponsored terrorism....now they have the tools and experience to go with the will to kill, they have Apace helicopters w/Hellfire missiles.... and those motorcycle-delivered sticky bombs..... and Stuxnet...they no longer need an Oswald or a Sirhan Sirhan to do the dirty work of militant Zionism....the Israelis could easily snuff BHO and effectively put the blame on an innocent 3rd party...the false flag operation....all we need is for the Mossad to plan, orchestrate and finance some disgruntled Iranians living in the USA....we might "wipe Iran off the map" in revenge and to the absolute delight of the Israelis...if such a murderous plot ever came to light, the old "anti-Semitic conspiracy theory" defense would be trotted out by the Israel lobby.

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 9:55

"Go ahead, lick her genitals, Yogi, she licked yours all those years, right?"

Reminds me of that awkward moment when living at The Club apartments here in Antioch. I met my neighbor coming up the stairs walking here little dog and carrying a fresh jar of peanut butter from the grocery store. I looked at the peanut butter and then I looked at her face... and at that moment she knew... that I knew.

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 10:01

We all rationalize our own conspiracy theories Loner. It's how we convince ourselves that our initial emotional biases are righteous.

I have no emotional bias about the Jews pro or con. I observe that they do seem to catch a disproportionate amount of sh*t from the Arabs and much of the rest of the world too, though.

By: yogiman on 4/20/12 at 10:02

Naw, Loner, all she wanted from me was solid food to eat, a bowl of water to drink and a quiet place to snooze. So in return, she let's me know when a stranger is trying to sneak up to my house.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 10:02

For you Americans who put Israel's national interests ahead of our own, it may surprise you to learn that our "closest ally" named a public square in Jerusalem in honor of the American traitor, Jonathan Pollard....the man who spied for Israel and did us grave harm in so doing.

What sort of an ally names a public square after a person who was a traitor to their closest ally?

The British have not named a public square in London after Benedict Arnold, to my knowledge.

The US has not named a public square in our nation's capital after Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli who blew the whistle on their nuclear WMD and spent decades in solitary confinement for doing so.

Do not be fooled. Israel will stab us in the back again, my friends...it is simply a matter of time...perhaps the End Times.

It looks like Zimmerman's bail has been set at $150,000. That looks like a decision has already been determined for him.

And they're still showing Martin as a 12 year old child. Justice in the USA.

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 10:10

Loner, whats your solution?

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 10:15

Ben, Zionism is counterproductive to the goal of saving the Jewish people from annihilation. Concentration enables annihilation; dispersal insures survival....Th. Herzl, the father of Zionism, did not recognize or understand that fundamental truth. he was a passionate Austrian intellectual, not a field biologist.

If I hated the Jews, I'd support their crazy self-concentration schemes....if the Jews all went to Israel, it would leave the USA "Juden Frei".... and the entire Jewish race and Jewish religion could more easily be extinguished...the final solution....if they would just concentrate themselves into an ethnic singularity...and that "full return" is the ultimate goal of Zionism....couple of nukes and POOF...no more Jews.

Truman should have invited the Holocaust survivors to come to the USA...he hated Jews too, so he told them to go to Palestine...he quickly recognized Israel and later, he gave them guns and money to liberate Palestine and ethnically cleanse the place...what a fool.

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 10:24

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 11:10

Loner, whats your solution?

To the Israel - Palestine conflict? That's easy enough to state: Share the land.

I support the one-state solution: Consensual annexation of E J'lem, the WB, Gaza and the Northern OT's into a Greater Israel...with full & immediate Israeli citizenship for all who now reside there.

This must be followed up with full integration of the Israeli armed forces, to include the Arab citizens as IDF soldiers...the IDF is currently almost 100% Jewish.

Anyone...Jew or Muslim or whatever.... who cannot handle the integrated state concept can opt for a third country to emigrate to....plans and resources would be there for those who choose that option.

Increased US aid to that integrated Israeli state would be my next move.

Of course, this is all theoretical...there is no Peace Lobby per se...there is an enormous War Lobby.

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 10:25

Loner, Truman's pardner in a Haberdashery business, was a Jew, and close friend of Truman. Truman later stated a visit from him in the WhiteHouse, was one of the reason he recognized the new state.

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 10:44

Loner, IMO rightly or wrongly the Jews will never do that.
The Jews of course have nukes. Which clarifies why Iran should not.
Some will argue that Iran is just as entitled to nukes as the Jews. Good argument.
Its seems to me anyway, that Israel wants the U.S. to handle the Iran nuke problem.
I think their threat of attacking Iran is a bluff, to force the U.S. to react.
Its all on the back burner until after our election. It will be a key question in the debates.

LONER.....I would not know whether the blacks are breeding like "rats" but they are breeding beyond their ability to care for their young. A business acquaintance said one day over lunch, "It appears that the blacks are breeding irresponsibly"

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 11:39

Israel is a nuclear scofflaw state..yet Israel is telling the US, the UN and the IAEA what to do, with respect to Iran and its nuclear program..,there is something insane about that, IMO...I guess we are crazy for Zionism...nutty for Judaism....goofy for Jewish supremacy....we've gone ape-shit for apartheid Zionism in Palestine....our brains have been addled by our misplaced love for the Jews.

It's mass hysteria and it's everywhere across this once great nation...we are now reduced to being a vassal state...the Israelis and their agents here will determine who our next president is going to be....the elections are orchestrated theater.

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 11:57

Loner, our leaders don't know what to do about anything in the Mid-East. Its get elected, and then stay in office. A large voting bloc in the U.S. thinks Israel is peachy-keen. Gotta have that voting bloc to stay in office. Piss off those folks, you'll have to get a real job. Besides it keeps Hillary busy.
I don't have any answers either. My specialty is football wagering, and women who like peanut butter.

By: BenDover on 4/20/12 at 12:03

It has to do with the fact that the crazy Mullahs in Iran keep saying that that the Zionist Pigs in Israel should wiped off the map... and they mean it... and they intend to act on it as soon as they get the bomb.

They are already funding proxy wars though Hamas and other organizations and individual terrorists in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, the Palestinian territories... and now fostering similar sentiments in New Egypt again and in New Libya.

By: slacker on 4/20/12 at 12:14

Yep, makes me long for the good old days when they had ''The Shah''

By: yogiman on 4/20/12 at 12:18

Yes, brrrrk, ever since. Its called welfare.

Why do you think so black black Americans are not getting married today? Because they can't find someone to love and have a family with? Or is it just "screwing around" because if they have children and can't work to "take care" of them they are given welfare money to take care of them... so they can have more.

How can you explain why there is so many large families without fathers in the house and mothers that have never been married?

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 12:24

Right now, Benjamin Netanyahu has more power to influence the US election than anyone on the planet. If the Israelis strike the Persians, and gas rises to $8/gallon, President Obama will be defeated in November...the American people do not associate cause and effect very well...Obama, not the Israeli PM will get the blame.

By: yogiman on 4/20/12 at 12:46

If any of the states demands Obama prove his constitutional eligibility to be placed on their ballot, he could be be easily voted out of office for lack of votes. And that's going to be interesting as the question of his legal status has been building over the past 3 years.

On that basis, the only way he could stay in office would be to place the nation under martial law. And with the laws and executive orders that have been placed lately... be prepared!

By: Loner on 4/20/12 at 12:48

Ben is yanking the lone one's chain....he knows that President Achmadinejad's words were mis-translated from the rather obscure Farsi to English, and then reiterated ad nauseum in the Israel-friendly US media.

Ironically, Israel has succeeded in wiping the name "Palestin" off the map...there is no Palestine on today's maps....that does not mean that Israel wiped out all the Palestinians in the process.

The Iranians may wish to eliminate the name "Israel" from that contested piece of real estate and go back to the old name "Palestine"....that does not mean that the Iranians want to kill all the Jews in that God-forsaken place. That's an Israeli canard.

The Israelis are playing the existential threat card once again. Crying, "WOLF" once again...I don't buy it.

In actuality, Israel's nuclear arsenal poses an existential threat to the Iranians....the Iranians might logically seek a deterrent to that clear & present danger....but there is no evidence that the Iranians are building a nuclear bomb....just Israeli "intelligence".

Remember Saddam's WMD?

As it turned out, the Israelis were full of shit on that call too....tens of thousands died....and we blew nearly a trillion US dollars on the Iraq War.

And now Ben Dover wants more holy war at Israel's behest.

I've had enuff for the day....gotta take my dog to the vet....see ya later, kids.
