Up for Debate: Election Commission upgrades poll books

Friday, July 13, 2012 at 2:18am

Do you think it was a good idea for the Davidson County Election Commission to spend $777,000 on upgrading paper poll books to new electronic books?

No, it will not save time or money and the electronic books can possibly be preset for the desired winner.

Just like Diebold's President who said, "GW Bush will win this election if I have anything to say about it".

re: "Mail carrier finds decapitated man's body...."
I didn't know Loner was in town.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 5:16

It's called progress, people.

If you're pissed about this, you must be completely apesh!t about the House spending $50 million dollars for a dog-and-pony show.

By: slacker on 7/13/12 at 5:49

I'm still miffed over them switching from Quill pens to ballpoints.

By: bfra on 7/13/12 at 6:00

slacker- Me too! That's the reason we are so over run with geese.

What does everyone think about this Romney/Bain stuff? I guess Ben would add the Boston Globe to the collusion conspiracy to get Obama elected...

If you don't know the story, looks like SEC filings from Bain show that Romney was still with the company up to 2002 (which is what Romney stated in the primary - that he began at Bain in 1977 and was there 25 years), though he is saying he left the company completely in 1999, and therefore shouldn't be held responsible for all the outsourcing, laying off, firings, etc., that took place.

Oh the tangled web we weave...

By: treehugger7 on 7/13/12 at 6:33

This is just what I expected. When he left Mass. government, he removed all the hard drives. He wants to control his image and cover his tracks. Who does that if there is nothing to hide? He's a far cry from his father, who's probably rolling in his grave right now. The only things transparent about him is his ambition and lack of compassion for those who have less. I hope he got the message at the NAACP meeting. We don't need his kind anywhere, especially as president. Just say no to Mittens!

By: bfra on 7/13/12 at 6:40

If enough of the truth comes out, maybe the voters will turn their backs on him, even repubs. That would prove, money can't buy everything.

By: Ummm... on 7/13/12 at 6:40

Romney may have committed numerous sins, but he didn't commit the sin of being a black man with a funny-sounding name, and that's all the Teapublicans care about.

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 6:47

It's funny. There seems to be so much concern about Mitt Romney making so much money and "hiding" it like most everyone else would do, but it's okay for Barack Obama to hide even his identity. You know, like the passport he used to enter Pakistan in 1981, his college papers..., even his original birth certificate.

But I guess that's okay; depending on who you are.

By: treehugger7 on 7/13/12 at 6:52

Give it up already!

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 6:57

Nope. I'm too concerned about the future of this nation for my grandchildren and I want to know who in the hell that man sitting in the Oval Office is. Don't you?

By: dargent7 on 7/13/12 at 7:01

Jerk weed: He's Barack Obama...'google" his name.
Then, "google" yours.
He has 7 pages of info. You have none.
No one knows who YOU are, or gives a shit.
He's President of The United States.
You're NOBODY.
At his funeral, he'd have thousands morn his loss.
At your's, maybe 3 people would show up.

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 7:12

dargent7,

You're a smart man, at least you think so, so tell me: Why was Obama advertised for 16 years as being born in Kenya but changed his "birthplace" to Hawaii when he entered the campaign in 2007? Why won't the State of Hawaii present his official birth certificate to identify him and get the claim he was born there? Why won't the hospital acknowledge where he was born for the free advertisement? Why did his sister say he was born in the other hospital instead of the one he claimed?

You can put anything you want in advertisements, but facts are facts and pages upon pages can be written, but Barack Obama refuses to identify himself. Why?

I think the only fair solution to voting in this country is to have everyone show their income tax return. If they did not pay any federal income tax they should be excluded from voting.

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 7:23

Sorry, Rasputin72, but we would lose 47 percent of the people's votes and the 53 percent voting might quit giving to the freebie recipients.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 7:27

Idiots, thy names are rasputin and yogi.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 7:32

Apparently two posters are unable to comprehend simple logic (and the link I posted yesterday concerning the "47%").

By: Rasputin72 on 7/13/12 at 7:39

gdiafante.........You have your bias and you expect others not to have one. I would bet we could change places and our bias would change immediately. By the way I like the view from my bias more than I think I would like your view.

Once upon a time I had only a nickel and my big decison of the day was whether to buy a 12 ounce Pepsi or a Milky Way candy bar. My mother and father though it a family atrocity if they applied for what little welfare was available then. Probably had a lot to do with family pride and dignity don't you think?

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 7:44

Speak for yourself, gdiafarte.

This old idiot want's to know who is in our Oval Office. And I consider you and your fellow Obama supporters as idiots for supporting a man in the Oval Office of this nation when you don't even know who he legally is.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 7:48

No, you're being a hypocrit, rasp. The reason some pay no income tax (they pay other taxes) is because their income is so small they qualify for tax subsidies.

You don't mind higher incomes qualifying for tax breaks, but not lower ones. For what reason, other than you qualify for the former?

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 7:48

Wipe your ass with the birther crap, yogi.

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 7:48

Well... since Romney didn't have any sealed divorce records to make public the Obama campaign had to do something.

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 7:53

Rasputin72,

Considering the number in your [ID] I presume you're much closer to my age than these young people. I've only noticed one on this site that gave their age older than I.

In our childhood times, the people weren't "working" for welfare handouts. Families took care of families and neighbor took care of neighbors.

Today, how many people really know their next door neighbor?

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 7:58

Not until your man Obama wipes his a$$ with the "birth certificate" he showed last year and shows his original birth certificate.

Wasn't it odd he couldn't legally (as he said) show that paper until a week before the book showing who he is came out?

By: dargent7 on 7/13/12 at 8:01

"Who is this man in the W.H.?"
I ask, "Who is Mitt Romney?"
What was Bain Capital up to for 25 years?
Exactly, how many jobs did he create vs. how many jobs did he destroy?
How many were over seas jobs?
Delve into the Mormon cult/ religion. Ask about his "Magic Underware"
I want a man sitting in the Oval Office with "Magic Underware"?
His mind-set allows him to thereby accomplish, what?
The Teabaggers should focus on this vs. on where Obama was or wasn't born.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 8:08

Stupid old man. Ignoring the douche...

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 8:09

Factcheck.org is siding with Romney.

By: bfra on 7/13/12 at 8:15

Hard to comprehend any one being as dumb as yogi, but there it is, proof positive, every day on this board.

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 8:16

I think you guys might find these funny.

In honor of Burch's decision to pass on politics this week:

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 8:22

That doesn't matter, Ben. It also sided with John Kerry in 2004, but look how that turned out. Nice try though.

By: bfra on 7/13/12 at 8:24

Ben - That pitiful site, has what to do with Mike Burch's article?

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 8:25

Are you saying that Obama is swift-boating Romney?

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 8:27

Just a distraction from the politics, bfra.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 8:28

Could be, Ben.

By: slacker on 7/13/12 at 8:29

I think Romney was involved with the Olympics during this time period, but he had to be knowledgeable of Bain's actions.
IMO Romney is more qualified to handle a fragile economy, so I'll be holding my nose and voting for him.
Vote Mitt... free haircut

OR Obama spending 1 billion for free cell phones to get votes; or Obama breaking the bank to get free health care for his minions so they will vote for him; or Obama and his family taking several lavish vacations a year when the tax payers can't even get a weekend away. Oh well, BIZ as usual.

That's funny D7 about Loner being in town (postal carrier). I recall seeing the guy walking around town who is charged with the crime. Glad none of us crossed his path or crossed him up. He doesn't fool around when it comes to getting even, does he? Shame for the man he killed. Sad. RIP fellow!

By: slacker on 7/13/12 at 8:37

I must go and return some videotapes. Hope everybody has a nice weekend.

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 8:38

I think Lurch went down on his own merits, gd.

Wonder why the media never called him 'out of touch' for being uber-rich like they do Romney all the time.

By: BenDover on 7/13/12 at 8:39

Take care, slack.

Yogi and Rasp, I lived in Utah for 5 years. The one thing I noticed is that Mormans don't have to get on Welfare often; they store up and help each other tremendously. And I think Mitt said he didn't worry about the poor because he knows that most of them are eligible for help from the government, the church or other local organizations such as the Food Bank.

In our neighborhood, we still help each other. When one neighbor lost her job, we all took up money and gave it to her. It was not a lot but as much as we all could give was given. To him who is given much, much is expected. Mitt donates 25% of his income to church and charity. Obama gave a mizerly 8%! What's up with dat? Shouldn't he be giving a lot more because he rose from being a "community organizer" for free to being King of the US political system. UMMMMM! He needs to catch up.

Burch wrote an awesome baseball article; very positive and uplifting. Keep it up Burch.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 8:42

I would disagree, slack. Call me crazy, but Wall Street had a significant part in why the economy collapsed, I don't trust them to fix it. I do trust them to help themselves.

I don't really trust Obama to either, but like you said, I'll be holding my nose when I vote.

They did, Ben. You just couldn't hear it over the He's a traitor BS. I remember many Heinz jokes/angles from the media.

By: yogiman on 7/13/12 at 8:46

It's funny in a way, how so much negative knowledge can be found (and look at how much already has been posted) negating Mitt Romney but no one can seem to find out just who in the hell Barack Obama is.

By: Kosh III on 7/13/12 at 8:57

More misinformation
"Obama spending 1 billion for free cell phones to get votes; or Obama breaking the bank to get free health care for his minions so they will vote for him; or Obama and his family taking several lavish vacations a year when the tax payers can't even get a weekend away. Oh well, BIZ as usual."

The phones for low income folks are paid for 100% by the phone companies, not the government.
Reagan took almost 2 years of "vacations" while in office. Bush spent weeks at a time at his huge Texas ranch.
No President really gets away; the job always travels with him; the fellow with the codes to start a nuclear war is always nearby.

Minions? You mean children? working poor?
I guess "love one another? " is not a right-wing value?
I can't afford to pay someone else's ER bill but a fraction of my taxes combined with fractions of many others will do so. E Pluribus Unum, not "I've got mine--frak you"

By: Kosh III on 7/13/12 at 9:00

Who is the President?

He's who he says he is according to the GOP Governor and Secty of State of Hawaii in 2008 who certified his BC or the current Governor who met Obama when he was a few days old or the Birth Notice in the newspaper or his WHITE grandparents.

All you have are babblings, no proof of anything. When asked to prove your nonsense you always REFUSE because there is nothing.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 9:02

Don't even try Kosh. You can't reason with stupid.

By: Rasputin72 on 7/13/12 at 9:11

gdiafante.......You cannot reason with a strong bias either.

By: gdiafante on 7/13/12 at 9:13

It has nothing to do with bias, Raspy. The fact is that Obama is the President. Don't tell me you're a birther too...

By: pswindle on 7/13/12 at 9:17

I hope the new update to the equipment has a much needed paper trail. That is a sure way to have a clean and clear winner. I'm not happy with computers controlling voting wihout a paper trail. As we all know, anything can be done with computers. For some reason, TN does not want a paper trail. I know that Gov. Bredesen signed into law when he was in office for a paper trail, but we were waiting for the money to be put it in place. So what did the GOP do, spend money on machines to control the voting outcome of an election.
