Up for Debate: Facebook's faceplant

Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 2:22am

As the Facebook I.P.O. hubbub plays out, do you smell a rat? Do you think average investors may have lost out on information provided to larger investors? Do you believe that when all's said and done the Securities and Exchange Commission will have reason to call foul?

Loner, its perfect. Mention how Mittllev teamed up with Buddy Hackski to tour the Borscht belt, to introduce Polish jokes. Giving free haircuts to anyone who refused to laugh. Winding up in Salt Lake City, with a a Rabbi, Priest, and numerous Felician nuns.
The rest is history.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 10:43

Vote Mitt. He'll balance the budget, and never disrespect adversaries.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 10:45

I Googled: Sunday Standard 6/27/2004 (without quotation marks).

After looking at a couple of pages cited by Google...without clicking on them...I could see that this is where Yogi and the usurper crowd get their "evidence" that BHO was born in Kenya....from a Kenyan newspaper...the Sunday Standard.

This is pretty flimsy evidence, you birther bitches, give it a zucking rest already.

By: yogiman on 5/24/12 at 10:51

What's the difference between Romney and Obama in not entering the service, Loner? Didn't they both have a choice? I mean, they weren't drafting back then. When I went in it was either join the service of your choice or get drafted to the service of their choice. I preferred sailing the seas instead of long hard walks.

Isn't there ethics about making a negative comment about one, but no comment about the other. Or is that just a political view?

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 10:51

Slack, I love the way you finish a good bullshit story.....I'm thinking "partnership" as we approach the Romney-loving Super PACs offering our services as...Loner & Slacker: Wordsmiths & Witticists....we may need to hire Doctor Ben Dover as our agent...to get us the best deal on the fee for service agreements....we may need to hire the Rasp, as a consultant...for focus group duty.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 11:06

Willard took a powder during the Vietnam War...when they were drafting kids for that meat grinder.....Willard went to France...he was on an LDS ":mission". He supported the war, of course, but not to the degree that he would personally go and fight for stated lofty goals.

Obama was not faced with the draft...he became eligible for military service during peace time.

Willard ran for cover...chickened out, but egged on the anti-war movement...a true hypocrite.

Obama pursued a career in the legal profession, not the military profession; is Obama to be regarded with the same contempt as Willard, the draft-dodging cheerleader for war? No way.

"Mitt" is not fit to be US Commander-In-Chief.....he is a draft-dodging chickenhawk.....veterans like myself are keeping the faith...what about you Yogi?

Catchy Slogan Alert: If Mitt is not fit, you must quit....supporting him.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:08

Loner, I'm in. Ben will come along for the cheap beer and women.
My latest bullshit is: the election will wind up in the house of reps.

By: gdiafante on 5/24/12 at 11:15

Interesting numbers, beer...I think it seems like spending has been increased because revenues are down.

But that really sidetracks the issue at hand, which is what is/has Obama done to help the economy. That's the only issue that people want to know. If they think he hasn't done enough, or his policies have failed, he won't be re-elected.

I think the GOP is going to use the tactics the Democrats played in 2008...failed policies, the country needs a change of direction. Unfortunately, the polices they would enact really aren't "change", they're the retread "supply-side" economic crap that contributed to the bubble bursts in the first place.

Recall the definition of insanity by Einstein...

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 11:16

Now THAT is a load of BS, Slack....how so, my bullshitting friend? House of Reps, you say.....hmmm.

As for Ben going along for the beer and snatch...I mean snacks...yeah, he's a zucker for a little hinie....and some exotic imported brewskis...give him a Cuban cigar once in a while, and you got a loyal employee.

By: gdiafante on 5/24/12 at 11:20

Didn't they both have a choice? I mean, they weren't drafting back then.

Did you not know they drafted during Vietnam? I think it ended in 1972, when Obama was 11, Romney was 25, so you do the math.

Jeez, is there any end to his complete and utter stupidity?

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:21

Loner, both candidates are hypocrites. I think Mitt has more business acumen, which might help in our current situation. But I think the country is in deep trouble either way. Both sides refuse to compromise.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 11:26

Gd is right, revenues are down, thanks to the extended Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

Those and other tax breaks gotta go...it's austerity time in Utopia, baby.

We could start the austerity by reigning in the special interests who are ripping Uncle Sam a new anus. But with the Super PACs etc. that's mission impossible.

So, like the Greeks, we want to enjoy the benefits of generous social welfare programs, i.e. the Butter.....but unlike the Greeks we demand both Guns and Butter....and like the Greeks, nobody here wants to pay for any of it.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:28

Austerity is the answer. But you can predict the reaction, when you tamper with entitlements.

By: gdiafante on 5/24/12 at 11:29

This is a Republic, not a business.

By: gdiafante on 5/24/12 at 11:33

Because it makes so much sense when people are hurting to cut their benefits. Got 9% unemployment? Stop unemployment checks.

Got a significant chunk of the population forced into early retirement? Cut retirement benefits.

Got people losing their jobs, homes and ability to provide for themselves? Roll back food stamps.

Brilliant idea.

And for christ sake, don't touch defense...

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:34

Nothing is gonna happen until after the election, unless the Iran Israel thing goes hot.
If Romney wins he'll say: its gonna take some time to clean up this mess the other guy left... and on it goes.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 11:37

I dunno, Slack, painting Mitt as Mister "Business Acumen" could also be used by the opposition to paint Willard as a "union buster", "out-sourcer", "corporate welfare queen", "corporate raider", "inside trader", "Wall Street Insider", "fat cat", "tycoon", "one-percenter"...etc

By: gdiafante on 5/24/12 at 11:39

Got crumbling infrastructure? Good, public supported roads is Socialism.

Public education lacking? An ignorant populace is an easily controlled populace.

Immigration problem? Build a wall, deport 12 million people. Take the money from entitlements because f**k the poor, it's their own fault.

Iran? This helps keep defense untouchable...besides, the combination of Wall Street and the MIC own Washington...

By: dargent7 on 5/24/12 at 11:41

Better yet, since Desert Storm, in 1991, Romney had 5 sons, all of military age. Not one sissy signed up.
As you had Biden's kid sign up, and Prince Charles two kids enlist.
Romney is a fake and a fraud.
He claims he "created jobs", yet Bain Capital devoured cos. , carved them up, sold off assets, filled for bankruptcy, and fired thousands.
How'd he make $200. million?
He's a Kenneth Lay of Enron in sheep's clothing.
Daddy was born in Mexico and President of American Motors. Anyone own a Rambler?
Total piece of shit. Made the Corvair and Pinto look respectable.
Romney's mantra, "I created jobs", in stark contrast to his venture capital gains at the expense of middle American workers, will bury the sucker. I hope.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:42

Loner, Mitt's viable, and could win. I actually think he will.
Superbowl prediction to follow.

By: dargent7 on 5/24/12 at 11:44

Should of also added, "a Gremlin". American Motors was the worst car co. ever conceived, executed, and sold.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:47

No ''Gremlins'' are showing up at Mechems muscle car auctions, I watch every week.

We had one of these land yachts when I was a kid:

By: dargent7 on 5/24/12 at 11:50

Obama rose quickly. You southern hillbillies couldn't find Harvard University with a road map and GPS.
The guy became President at 47. Like only two others, JFK and Bill Clinton.
Besides stroking your johnson at that age, what were you doing?
You want to fault a self-made guy, with NO family ties, NO connections, for winning?
"Well, he played the race card"....Emphasizing you're a mixed racial/ black man in America, in 2008, is a positive? Are you insane?
We need to send a couple of fellas out to your white trailer trash with butterfly nets and take you away. Far, far, away.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 11:50

As advisers to Mitt's Super PAC, we would be forced to suggest a new direction...we paint Willard as the scruffy underdog...a dog, but a dog with a good nose....and Willard smells a rat....and the rat's nest is in Washington, DC....

And Willard...an aging rat terrier.....is also a former show dog, with circus experience.....once he gets elected as POTUS, he will whip out a flute-pipe....Pied Piper style....and lead those rats to their doom & destruction....leaving DC Rodent-frei.....All hail, Willard!

What do you think, Slack?

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:50

nazi, lol. Did you hunker down when you passed someone you knew?

By: brrrrk on 5/24/12 at 11:50

Gee, could Scott Walker have committed perjury when he testified before Congress?

By: brrrrk on 5/24/12 at 11:55

Mark Halperin: "what specific skills or policies did you learn at Bain that would help you create an environment where jobs would be created?"

Romney: "I understand, for instance, how to read a balance sheet."

Damn!! I'm impressed.....

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 11:55

My father always had cool cars, that I destroyed drag-racing. He should have shot my sorry arse. Agreeing is not mandatory.

By: Beernazi on 5/24/12 at 11:57

slack, everyone knew my folks owned that jalopy. I just had to suck it up. LOL

By: Beernazi on 5/24/12 at 11:58

Excellent post, darge.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 12:07

OH, oh...we got trouble...By: dargent7 on 5/24/12 at 12:44

Should of also added, "a Gremlin". American Motors was the worst car co. ever conceived, executed, and sold.

Sir, with all due respect, my daddy was an AMC man...we too had a Matador or two.....I drove my dad's brand new 1965 Rambler Classic, 4door sedan from Albion, NY to Miami Florida...and back....with just my younger brother and our "adopted" brother with me...I was just 16...maybe 17.....the car ran perfectly and we had a great road trip...one that we all remember with great fondness.

I became an AMC man myself, as did my brother. We both owned Gremlins and loved them...the salt on the roadways caused their early demise...unibody construction....insufficient undercoating etc.

I delivered the US Mail out a Gremlin and then with two AMC Sportabout wagons.

Last, but not least, the venerable Postal Jeeps, the DJ-5 series like mine, were all built by AMG...American Motors General.....some are still delivering the mail, a real tough job....the last ones were built in the mid 80's.

I will defend the American Motors product...Dargent is anti AM because their excellent cars were made in Kenosha, Wisconsin...not in Detroit, Michigan....it's a turf deal.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 12:08

Loner, it will come down to the debates. In the first debate, we'll have to somehow make Obama appear to have a prompting device, hidden under his coat. That should work..no?

By: yogiman on 5/24/12 at 12:11

Why would that Kenyan newspaper lie about Barack Obama? Why would other Kenyans lie about him?

I've got other "stuff" but I doubt if you would want to see it. You seem to admire him too much to learn what he's doing to this country.

Drop it? No, not until the facts are given to the public. You can have a admiration for a man sitting in that office illegally all you wish.

You should have, at least, a slight idea what he can pull in that office.

And regarding your 12:06 comment: Between the two, regardless what Romney has done, at least he's legally iligible for the office. We've got 5 more months to come to a conclusion but anyone who's so willingly vote for someone who won't even identify himself will deserve what they've got.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 12:14

Loner, I think the Gremlin has the makings of a Johnny Paycheck song.
''Take this Gremlin and shove it''

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 12:17

Johnny meant no offense of course. He drove whatever car he had stolen that day.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 12:20

That's an old trick, that just might work, Slacker...FOX News has Geeks on its payroll...they can alter the video to show an unnatural bulge in the President's suit...how about we put the bulge in his pants...could not be seen from the podium.....but in slo-mo, we can see the bulge, as the POTUS approached the podium....right here....can we enlarge that view for our TV audience?....ah, yes there it is....a teleprompter device in his groin area...no doubt about it.

And Mitt..look...no bulge.

Not a bad idea, Slack.

By: yogiman on 5/24/12 at 12:22

Are you working as a bartender or just sitting there as a drinker? You need to take another drink and get your brain to working. At least a little "what the hell's going on?" thinking.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 12:25

I remember the early Rock & Roll hit "Little Nash Rambler" (Beep...Beep) by Playmates...and here it is:

The tempo starts out slow, then slowly picks up speed...they do not make them like this anymore.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 12:27

Here is a better video of "Beep...Beep":

By: Beernazi on 5/24/12 at 12:28

Like the Rambler itself - starts out slow them slowly picks up speed. Zero to 60 in 5 minutes.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 12:29

Loner, not bad. The old lock up your daughters crotch-shot. But I'm thinking if somehow Obama could appear to be doing that Islamic call to prayer chant, its lights out.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 12:36

Now you are talking, Slack...a good-looking female agent drops her contact lens on the carpet near Obama, at a fundraiser...BHO gets down on his knees to look for the missing lens...meanwhile we get the footage of the POTUS assuming the call to prayer position.......then we delete any non-essential elements in the video...and enhance it a bit....then we splice in the Islamic call to prayer chantings as the audio track. and there you have it....we got the Muslim on tape doing the ass-in-the-air thing....pure dynamite.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 12:37

nazi, I think the Rambler was created for the silent minority.

By: slacker on 5/24/12 at 12:39

Loner, brilliant. Mitts gonna owe us big time.

By: Loner on 5/24/12 at 12:41

But it saved on gas getting there, BN.....O to 60 with 25+MPG...that figure was great MPG in those cheap gas years....Rambler won the Mobil Economy Run every year in the 1960's ...there's an event that needs to be resurrected from the groove yard.

By: Beernazi on 5/24/12 at 12:44

Yeah, that was some rockin' mileage for that time period. Those were the days of the beautiful muscle cars. I would love to own one of those classic cars. I could afford to drive it to the park and back at least twice a year!

By: dargent7 on 5/24/12 at 12:45

As we all know, I'm the ajunct prof Emetrius of Detroit on this board.
In H.S., 1975, I had friends who had a :
No one, but no one, was allowed to own a Matador.
We had no class, scholastic achievement, grades, or respect.
But, driving a Matador crossed the line.

By: gdiafante on 5/24/12 at 12:46

It's all been debunked, Scarlett.

But wait...the entire Birther movement grinds to a halt to await Scarlett's "stuff" being released to prove once and for all that Gordonsville is not in need of a village idiot.
