Good morning, Nashville.

Now the it's finally ready to open what are your thoughts on the Music City Center? Are you pleased with it?

The NRA, the KKK, the GOP and some other right-wing outfits might want to hold their conventions in a city that allows guns in bars.

Robber barons might wish to hold their conventions in a right-to-fire state that recently gutted its Workman's Compensation structure and has demonstrated its contempt for environmental laws.

Homophobes, Islamophobes and all-purpose xenophobes might want to convene at the Nashville MCC.....born-again militant Christians might opt for the place too.

But hurry, .....the meter is running.....that is one expensive white elephant....Good luck.

By: Rasputin72 on 5/17/13 at 5:17

History someday will show Karl Dean as the most corrupt Mayor of a 100 year millenium.

The present will show that the MCC is a mecca for the homeless.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 5:29

Rasp, is the MCC your new digs? Cool. The pan-handling there should be good...until the novelty of the thing wears off....there's enough cash in the slush funds to keep it operational for about a year.....after that, the repo man may suddenly appear....guess who is going to get stuck paying for pharaoh's monument?

By: govskeptic on 5/17/13 at 5:32

Since it only ran 30-40 million over budget, or at least that's the reported amount,
we should probably consider ourselves lucky. Now, the operating expenses are
going to be massive, keeping that within a reasonable amount and budget will
be as big or bigger task as the building cost. The Mayor's statement that the cost
would not be born by the "Taxpayer", but through the Tourism tax should be one
they are forced to live within. While skeptical, we all must hope for the best for
the MCC and expect our city to be extremely well served by having it.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 5:35

The birthers and some of these other lunatic right-wing fringe groups might want to convene in the new MCC...it could become something of a mecca for the tin-foil hat crowd....once the rates are drastically reduced, in a desperate attempt to keep the doors open.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 5:38

Mayor Dean rolled the dice in this shaky real estate crap shoot....will it be boxcars....or snake eyes? Dean has bet the farm on this....seven come eleven!

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 5:40

So, the plan is to hose the tourists, by way of a hefty tourism tax, so as to pay for this expensive tourist attraction....makes perfect sense.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 5:45

Nashville's public school system is one of the worst performing systems in the nation...so, what does the mayor and his yes-men do? They build a half-billion-dollar convention center.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 5:58

Three whole city blocks occupied by one building with one tenant? You can see the monstrosity from space.

Will the MCC become a cash cow or a white elephant? We are about to find out...as they say around here, you folks got yourself a "mingya mansion"....Bona Fortuna!

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 6:25

All that time, treasure and tragedy invested in Bush's Iraq War....and all that US foreign aid to rebuild the place...and what has it gotten us and the people of Iraq?

Breaking news....(Reuters) - At least 32 people were killed in two explosions outside a Sunni Muslim mosque in Baquba, about 50 km (30 miles) northeast of Baghdad, after Friday prayers, police and medics said.

Attacks on Sunni and Shi'ite mosques, security forces and tribal leaders have spread since security forces raided a Sunni protest camp near Kirkuk a month ago, igniting clashes and fuelling fears of a slide back into all-out inter-communal war.

Iraq has grown more volatile as the civil war in neighboring Syria strains fragile relations between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims. Tensions are now at their highest since the last U.S. troops pulled out at the end of 2011. (End Snippet)

I am looking forward to seeing it. From the outside it is most impressive and I think it add to Nashville greatly.

However I understand that it is the 50th largest in the nation.

Yeah and maybe the IRS, the State Dept and the white house can camp there.

Loner, are you going "post" al? You've posted 8 out of 10 posts? Are you lonely? Sad? Afraid? What's up "wid" you today?

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 7:28

I felt generous this morning, Bud.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You may not be a Mayor, but I doubt there is few more corrupt of soul than, you Raspy old boy.

Just what is a 100year millenjum (sic)? Did you mean millennium?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/13 at 7:32

Yes Loner, what is up wid (sic) you?

By: bfra on 5/17/13 at 7:36

At least what Loner post, makes sense!

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 7:40

I went to Google Maps...to check out the site...Google prompts one to the old Convention Center...but I found the construction site after a little mousing around....so far, these newspaper articles do not include the street address of the place...that would surely help outsiders to locate it.

The Google maps image is that of a building under construction...a huge building, with some flamboyant architecture to it...the roof looks like the body, but not the neck, of a colossal guitar sitting on a musical staff....and the whole thing sits next to a building that looks like the top of a monstrous white mushroom.....weird....stupefyingly weird.

I went to the official MCC site and viewed their slide show....Mingya....you(s) gotta mansion!

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/13 at 7:43

bfra-

Just wait until the flea wakes up and you will see yogi's genetic blood line devolve into a swirling disarray of hate.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/13 at 7:46

It is the 50th largest in the country. Loner.

What is wid (sic) you today. ;-)

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 7:47

Thank you, Bfra, for the kind word....and Cap'n Nemo, I am up early today...thought I'd post before heading out...getting ready for my annual road trip-camp out...lots of chores to do.

Bud...relax, once I go into Summer Retreat mode, I won't be posting here...or anywhere....that's my modus operandi.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 7:50

Pssssst... Loner... your contempt is showing.

By: budlight on 5/17/13 at 7:52

: bfra on 5/17/13 at 8:36
At least what Loner post, makes sense!

bfra and what you post does not.

Yes, Loner's posts make sense. I did not say anything to the contrary. He's just on a roll, or is that role?

I am relaxed Loner. Just trying to see if you're awake yet or posting in your sleep. Sleep Posting! LOL

One of my friends had a great "extra" spot on Nashville. Wow! It was awesome and she is drop dead gorgeous. It was the recent show where the cast was practicing the CMA shots. I love that show. It's like Dallas with some good country music. I hope they continue filming it here in music city.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/13 at 7:53

Will Loner you never posted on government time. That more than we can say for bud.

I know you are looking forward to it and most of us will miss your absents. Enjoy and have fun.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 7:54

It is a stylized guitar I believe, Loner. The Country Music Hall of fame next door is a stylized piano. The Arena looks like a huge space-ship settled down on top of it.

Meanwhile Margaritaville fought the city codes for 9 months to get windows that would open and the McDonald's down the road can't re-open because they want a functional drive-through.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/17/13 at 7:59

Ben the Arena reminds me of a roach, with one antenna. I still like it.

By: Libertine on 5/17/13 at 8:00

Actually Loner the NRA was one of the first to sign up. The NRA will come to the MCC May 2015. As a card toting NRA member I look forward to attending.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 8:00

Hope we get someone in there before 2015.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:01

Ben, that's not my contempt showing, it's my skepticism.

No, I am not lighting incense and candles, nor offering sacrifice to the God of Fiascoes.

I hope & pray that I am wrong, that my skepticism is unfounded.... for the sake of a community that I love so dearly....I hope that the thing works out...but I have my doubts.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:08

Libertine: It did not require the use of my crystalline spheres of clairvoyance to predict that the NRA would pounce on this like a gator on a lost Shih Tzu.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 8:14

Well it jacked my condo value by about 35% in 3 years so I'm not complaining.

As for making that McDonald's "more pedestrian friendly", like the city is insisting... the only thing that would make that McDonald's more pedestrian friendly would be to put Mogen David on the Dollar Menu.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:16

So, a lot of non-union labor went into the place, eh? Kind of a scab-built deal...like they do overseas....hmmmm. The thing started out on the wrong foot...the city tried to hose the land-owner and then lost the expensive court battle that followed....then the scab labor thing....the Karma is not good.

Again, I hope to be proven wrong....break out the champagne!

By: bfra on 5/17/13 at 8:16

As a card carring life member of the NRA, (I joined before Charleton Heston got his grimey hands in the mix), I won't be there. I do not approve of the stance NRA has taken on gun controm nor the ways they have chosen to fight it. One being the use of small children.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:19

Ben, what goes up.....you know the rest....buy low, sell high.

Love your one liner: ".. the only thing that would make that McDonald's more pedestrian friendly would be to put Mogen David on the Dollar Menu."

By: bfra on 5/17/13 at 8:22

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:23

The Homeless Happy Meal...new, from McDonald's....the MD 20/20 meal comes with a realistic-looking, toy, blue-tooth, on-the-ear, cell phone....now, they don't appear to be talking to themselves....brilliant idea, Ben.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:27

Yeah, Bfra, the "Little Crickett" rifle represents a new low in ethical merchandising.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 8:29

It's under contract right now brother. Should close middle of June.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 8:31

I still regret not buying those special edition Camel Joe cartons of Cigs... That stuff's going to be really collectable one day.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:31

The Knights in White Muslin might want to convene at the new MCC...from space that arena looks like an enormous white hood?

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:32

I loved Joe Camel...played a bad ass tenor.

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 8:33

Already on its way up.

I always thought this Church near my other house was more reminiscent of a Klan hood, Loner. Who the heck misses this in the architectural review?

By: BenDover on 5/17/13 at 8:48

Awesome Ode to Joe there loner.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:49

I see what you mean, Ben...one big eyehole...gotta be a hood for the Confederate Cyclops....the South's Secret Weapon.

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 8:50

Truly awesome, Ben...that dromedary had cool.

By: dargent7 on 5/17/13 at 9:26

The place will bring in ten's of thousands for the local, ie., dtwn economy.
People will not just hole up in the Omni Hotel...they'll venture out on Broadway.
That area was a blight and a criminal haven. Who'd walk anywhere near there after dark?
The old Convention Center barely could accomodate 1,000.
This one can hold 4,500 (I think...maybe 5000+).
The shape (roof) is way weird for me...looks like the coccun scene from "Aliens".
And it's shoe-horned into a small space. Good luck with Parking.
But, it will vitalize dtwn Nashville, for sure.

By: dargent7 on 5/17/13 at 9:28

How do you spell cocoon, anyway?

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 9:35

I think it's "cocoon"....surely it resembles a pupating insect of some sort....they should call the place the "Bug Jar"?

By: Loner on 5/17/13 at 9:37

The MCC will need a cocktail named after it.....any suggestions?
