Up for Debate: Folks at a folk festival

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:53pm

Nashville will host the National Folk Festival during the Labor Day weekend on the Bicentennial Mall. Reportedly, festival officials remain well shy of their fundraising goal but, nonetheless, have strong backing in honorary co-chairs: country and Americana music legend Emmylou Harris and Gov. Bill Haslam and his wife, Crissy. Supporters include the State of Tennessee, Metro, the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Arts & Business Council, Bridgestone, SunTrust, Cracker Barrel, Nissan and Nashville Electric Service. To be held in Nashville for the next three years, the event is expected to draw about 60,000 visitors this September. How significant an economic impact will the National Folk Festival have on Nashville?

Here's an interesting interview with Ben Stein...

Now that Arizona has taken a stand on illegal immigration, the large agri-business interests are having a hard time "gettin'r done". Never fear though, they (and Walmart) have just swapped one form of slave labor for another.

gdiafarte,

If you are so willing to accept someone to take the highest office of this land who is adamantly unwilling to offer proof of his legal eligibility to hold that office, I can only offer my sympathy for your ignorance. And don't 'say' he gave his birth certificate when experts have proven it to be a false paper. There is much more he will not allow the citizens of this nation he imposes himself to be president of.

More thoughts:

If any other of our former presidents would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minutes speech bout how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in his home town, would you have thought he was a self-important, conceited, egotistical jerk?

If any other of our former presidents had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was Cinco de Mayo (The 5th of May), and then continue to flub it when he tried again, wouldn't you have winced in embarrassment?

If any other of our former presidents had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth day, would you have concluded he's a Hypocrite?

If any other of our former presidents' Administrations had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If any other of our former presidents had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest, with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If any other of our former presidents had created the positions of 32 Czars who report only to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in Americda, would you have approved?

If any other of our former presidents had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If any other of our former presidents had ordered our military to attack another country without congressional consultation, he would have been described at the least, or at the worst, a violator of the Constitution.

If any other of our former presidents had ordered the assassination of an unarmed private citizen inside a foreign country, with, or without the country's knowledge, he would have been described as a criminal.

So, can you tell me what it is about Barry Soetoro (Barack Obama) that makes him so brilliant and impressive?

Why are so many American still in love with him?

By: gdiafante on 6/30/11 at 1:40

"gdiafarte"

What are you, ten years old?

Nice to see you learned how to copy and paste. Now if you could just learn how to paste something with substance, you'd be on to something.

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 1:41

brrrk,

Don't worry, Barry Soetoro has joined the Mexican government in a lawsuit to stop Arizona,(a State of the United States (the nation he is supposed to be representing)), from stopping illegal aliens from entering this nation, which has nothing to do with foreigners coming to this nation legally for seasonal employment.

What a great president... for Mexico.

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 1:45

Sorry, gdiafarte,

Its hard to tell which end of you its coming out of.

How about we exercise some common decency and quit trying to constantly find some facetious comment to make toward a fellow poster on a common basis as some on this site are doing?

Now we can add the term hypocrite to your resume.

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 1:53

Back to the original subject.

The National Folk Festival can be a great event for our State's Capital of Nashville.

I just hope they display the State Flag properly. Its sad to often to see it upside down on official occasions.

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 1:58

As an old Boy Scout, gdiafante, I'm just following my leaders. You get off my back, and I'll stay off of yours.

Interesting.... what do you think of the GOP displaying the satanic star on the official GOP logo?

Leader? You mean "handler"? Do they use a chair & whip? No "man" would post the lies & smut like you, about The President of the United States, with not 1 iota to back it up.

What outhouse are you living in bfra? If you honestly think you know Barry Soetoro so well, how about me selling you that swamp area down the road from my farm?

What are you using for a brain? I wish you had more that that pea size you seem to be exploiting.

And by the way, leaders lead so the followers will follow. As you have "seen", I don't handle too well.

yogi's motto - Never saw a lie or smear about Obama I didn't like.

By: dargent7 on 6/30/11 at 2:59

"yogi":
Obama had to show his Birth Cert back in 1977 when he applied to Punahou H.S. on O'ahu. It's a private school. You don't just walk in.
He then went to Occidental College, on to Columbia, then Harvard Law to teach. All colleges request a copy of your transcript(s). I'm quite certain one cannot just show up at Harvard and start teaching US Constitutional Law to grad students.
He then was elected to the IL State Senate. He had to produce his Birth Cert. then too.
You don't become a State Senator w/o proving who you are. The SS does backround checks.
You act and talk as though Obama just flew in from Lebannon and has no paper trail, bypassed education.
I had to show my Birth Cert. to get a Tenn. Driver License, just 4 years ago. I can't believe I even had it because the Hospital I was born in 1959 burned down during the '68 Detroit riots. Funny, I don't remember the doctor who delivered me.
Because my parents are Republican and I'm a tree-huggin' Democrat, they both deny I'm their son.
Read this week's issue of TIME mag. It's all about the US Constitution. Birth definitions and eligibilty. Then give it a rest.
That's your homework assignment. Then, write to me on Monday, the 4th.
Happy sparklers.

By: brrrrk on 6/30/11 at 3:08

But darg, he's still black.....

By: dargent7 on 6/30/11 at 3:09

ps: When Obama debated McCain at Belmont University in 2008 I was their waiter.
The Secret Service came to my house and wanted my Birth Cert. and 3 forms of ID.
They took finger prints and a DNA sample.
They do a backround check dating back 10 years....if nothing's fishy....to be a waiter for CANDIDATES.
I believe Obama, to be eligible for the office of US President, had to go through similar methodologies, stricter, than that of a waiter.
Ya think?
The Secret Service doesn't fool around. I tried joking around with them and they all wore sunglasses at 9:00pm.
They're like, "The Men in Black".

@D'argent:
I think ANY acid consumed at a folk fest would have the same effect in that environment as brown acid.

@brrrrk:
The Republican logo does not contain Satanic symbolism (although the party may be symbolic of evil - HA!). Please look up the definition of "pentagram." You will find it has meaning in many religions.

By: dargent7 on 6/30/11 at 3:12

brrrrk:
Isn't is obvious that's what it all boils down to?

By: dargent7 on 6/30/11 at 3:18

brrrk: 50%, half black.
Herman Cain is 100% black and will never be elected.
Electing Kennedy in 1961, a Catholic, was a stretch. But he was so good-looking and cool America had to. Nixon was pathetic. Nervous and pasty.
Romney, a Mormon, is good-looking too, but Mormonism is too weird once you read up on it.
Their rituals make the Hare Krishnas look conservative main- stream.

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 3:19

One more point, bfra.

LCP may be the only place you gather your knowledge on Barry. There are others. You might look for them.

I call him Barry Soetoro because of his book telling of his stepfather adopting him. Have you seen where he reverted his name and citizenship to the USA after his mother's divorce from his stepfather? Didn't think so.?

But at the bottom of the issue: Why has this man refused to let the people of the nation he is supposed to have been elected to represent (and by that I mean serve) view all of the questionable papers about himself. All others before him have. Why has he refused, and why does he continue to refuse?

Do you think for one minute if he was in that office legally he would refuse to prove himself to the citizens?

A number of experts have posted his so-called birth certificate is false. Why hasn't one countered their comments stating it is a justified birth certificate?

Why has he refused to show the papers he used to get a passport to visit Pakistan, when Pakistan would not accept Americans in their nation?

By: dargent7 on 6/30/11 at 3:22

Motley Crue, who uses the pentagram, as well as Black Sabbath and most heavy metal bands, is at Bridgestone Arena, Sunday. I'll expect to see you all there.
By the way, isn't the US Pentagon, 5 sides? Talk about Satanic worship and evil.....

Sorry, but the point down pentagram is primarily associated with satanic beliefs. But be that as it may, why would the GOP adopt the point down pentagram? Show me one instance where the point down star is used on any other symbol of America.... outside of being positioned strictly for design purposes like on the Presidential seal. There is absolutely no design reason for the use of the point down star on the GOP logo.

By: dargent7 on 6/30/11 at 3:28

In the US Constitution it clears states a US President has to be "BORN on US soil".
Doesn't matter if you change your name, move about the world, have parents of differing Nationalities/ races, were adopted, dropped out of school, joined the military.......
"BORN IN THE USA"....Bruce Springsteen.
I just wonder if someone born in the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, or any US territory, is eligible?
....uhmmm, yogi?

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 4:09

dargent7, we must be reading different copies of the Constitution. Where was yours printed; China? Russia? Or maybe Timbuktu?

My copy states you must be a natural born citizen of the USA to be elected its president. If you have any, try using a little common sense. Just being born in the US. does not give you a natural born American citizenship status.

If that was the case, why wouldn't the children of foreign ambassadors to the US be natural born citizens.

Which would then mean the Ambassador from China, or Russia, or any other nation in the world who is a member of the UN could come here and have child that would be legally eligible to become the president of the USA at the age of 35.

Easy way to take over, isn't it?

I know, congress has passed a law giving American citizenship to children born to illegal alien mothers. I guess they'll do anything for a possible vote.

By: Ingleweird on 6/30/11 at 4:28

Brrrrk:
You know I don't normally disagree with you, but a pentagram must be drawn with five straight strokes, containing a pentagon within. Look up "Sigil of Baphomet." Otherwise, a star is a star by any other name.

By: yogiman on 6/30/11 at 4:29

dargent7,
If Barry had to produce all of those papers as you mentioned at your 2:59 post, why have they been placed under lock and key and why will no one from his past come forward to influence the people he is legit? Why will none of the officials come up front on the issue? Why isn't there any childhood friends stepping up front in his favor?

Being me, I know I wouldn't hesitate to come forward for a childhood friend if it was for an honest factor. Or any friend in my life that might be able to use me in their favor as an honest factor.

But then, no one who knows me would ask me to lie for them.

And, by the way; why did his step-sister say he was born at a different hospital that he said? Trying to get back at him for something? I thought they were loving brother and sister.

Why has the hospital he "wrote" to, taken his letter off the wall? Why has the doctor who is supposed to have delivered him not stepped forward to say; Yep! I delivered that president of the USA! Hell, if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have him as your president.

By: Ingleweird on 6/30/11 at 4:36

Or a "decagon," if you will.

By: brrrrk on 6/30/11 at 4:41

Sorry ingle, but from my perspective you're nit picking. And still you haven't addressed the issue of why the GOP would adopt something that is clearly out of the mainstream when it comes to American symbolism.

By: Ingleweird on 6/30/11 at 4:57

@brrrrk:
Your argument is akin to pointing to a lower-case "t" or a loaf of bread and saying they are derived from Christianity. I think I have a point. Sorry.

So, your argument is based on the fact that there's no picture of a goat in the middle, and there aren't two concentric circles surrounding the picture of the goat, and there aren't Hebrew language characters at each point of the pentagram? Like I said... nit picking. And STILL you haven't addressed the issue of why the GOP would adopt something that is clearly out of the mainstream when it comes to American symbolism.

Look, I just find it curious.....
