Up for Debate: Growing the Gulch

Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 9:47pm

Last week, MarketStreet and Spectrum announced they plan to partner in an effort to develop 1.5 million square feet of building space — in five structures — in the Gulch. What are the prospects for such an ambitious effort?

Let them build whatever they want.
Traffic will become a nightmare.
I wish someone would build something at 17th & Broadway.
That sink hole is a shame.

Good morning, Nashville!

As for the topic of the day, I have no comment. My crystal balls are not tuned to that frequency.

Former POW, John McCain just cannot get enough of war it seems, the top Senate recipient of special interest money, is now advocating for military action against Syria....can you imagine how bad things would be right now, if this idiot had won the presidency in 2008?

Here's a snippet with McCain quotes:

“Now that military operations in Libya are ending, there will be renewed focus on what partial military operations might be considered to protect civilian lives in Syria,” McCain (R-Ariz.) said at a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Jordan. “The Assad regime should not consider that it can get away with mass murder. Kadafi made that mistake and it cost him everything.”

Yes, things are proceeding as planned...the neocon plan that is.....Obama is a reneger.

By: yogiman on 10/24/11 at 6:20

How can Obama be considered a reneger if he doesn't have the legal authority to do take such action

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 6:21

I wish you'd just call him the "N" word and be done with it.
All this dancing around the subject is getting old.

By: yogiman on 10/24/11 at 6:24

Read your dictionary, dargent7.There's different meanings of the two words.

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 6:28

L'ner:
I really have a hard time figuring out which affliction and mental disorder among Republicans is more threatening.
McCain is a warmongering, senile old man. You're right, thank God he and bobble- head didn't get the W.H. Palin wanted to bomb Russia (!).
Then you have his twin, Herman Cain, saying abortion is murder and wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and make it illegal.
Bachmann and Co. believe homosexuality is an "aberration" and can be "cured" by her husband's task force for $1,800. a pop.
Romney wears two sets of "Magic Underware" and believes in a religion that makes Scientology appear normal.
Obama is the only sane one in the group.

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 6:33

I thought he was an "usurper"? Now, he's a "reneger", too?
And "google" Freud, Sigmund. You are displaying Freudian slips all day long.

By: serr8d on 10/24/11 at 6:33

Grow the Gulch? No, fill it with #OCCUPYNashville 'tards, and cover it up.

But that'd be a problem: I drove by the Legislative Plaza yesterday after the Titans whupping to see the masses of steenking left-wing humanity that've come out to support this push for mass socialism; but they weren't there. There were a couple tents, and some dude with two dogs sitting outside of one. But mostly Legislative Plaza was filled with kids on skates.

Dunno, maybe the kids on skates WERE the vaunted OCCUPY forces. We know now that most of these OCCUPY people are white kids with substantive parents; kids who are spoiled with the latest electronic toys and gadgets and designer jeans who think their $30K per year 'higher' educations should be funded by you and me; educations that consisted of 'Ethnic Studies' or other pop-psychobabble that is not marketable.

I laugh, laugh, LAUGH! at their pathetic efforts.

If they and their nationwide counterparts did manage to destabilize this Republic's economy, then they will be held responsible. I'm afraid they would then learn some very hard lessons indeed.

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 6:39

Sir-8: I think why the Titans stunk so bad yesterday was because you attended the game.
And I bet you laughed your ass off at the Vietnam war demonstrators, too. Right?

By: govskeptic on 10/24/11 at 6:40

Great question today! As I rolled out of bed today my first thought was:
What are be going to do about the Gulch? Then my thoughts went to
how long will it take the Islamic Cleric El-Sader to become the most
powerful and influential person in Iraq? Then I began to relax knowing
the collective thoughts of Loner and Paul would provide the answers
and solutions over the next couple of days!

By: yogiman on 10/24/11 at 6:43

Wrong again, dargent7. Obama is the only who thinks he can get away with the usurpation of that office.

Tell me, do you believe abortion (for your info, that's killing an unborn breathing baby) is normal act of life.

And you believe homosexuality is a normal way of life? I believe the alcoholic fumes you're breathing in your bar is having too much effect on your brain.

By: Loner on 10/24/11 at 6:54

Well, I'm planning on protesting from 4 til 6 PM today at the Courthouse in Albion, NY...the county seat of Orleans County....our Unitarian Universalist church group is joining the nationwide movement...4-6, 24/7 is the plan.

I'll be there wearing my old US Army shirt (44 years old), (as usual, when protesting)...and I'll carry my standard signage: "HOLY WARS SUCK".

The judge in Orleans County, James Punch, has it in for me personally...the lone one could get arrested. If I don't post tomorrow...then you know I'm in jail.

Govskeptic, thanks for the kind words....I'll try to live up to that.

Darge, a reneger is one who goes back on his promises....sadly, Obama fits the bill. If that denigrates the man...so be it.

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 6:57

What's "usurpation"?
I think Depends helps in that area.
And Herman Cain seems to be your man.
He promises to make abortion illegal. A crime analogous to murder.
And get a biology book.
At 5 weeks, up to 2 months, a "baby" doesn't "breathe". Doesn't have a heart beat.
The problem with outlawing abortion is that you crainally dificient men still want to have sex and impregnate women by denying birth control and sex education.
You Republicans are all nuts and a danger to the community and society in general.

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 6:58

He didn't go back on his promise to get ALL troops out of Iraq, eg.

I attend ALL the home games; being one who possesses season tickets.

The Vietnam war demonstrations were a bit before my time, but I supported the Union hardhats who then were 'real men' who kicked those hippies' asses during their lunch breaks. Now, those Unionists have become soft and sup with the hippies. Go figure.

By: serr8d on 10/24/11 at 7:07

I'll be there wearing my old US Army shirt (44 years old), (as usual, when protesting)...and I'll carry my standard signage: "HOLY WARS SUCK".

There's been no 'holy wars' since the Crusades, Loner.

Just how old are you ?

By: serr8d on 10/24/11 at 7:08

my old US Army shirt (44 years old)

Prolly the same underwear too. You dirty hippie you~!

http://goo.gl/H4W7b

Heh. Don't you love it? Obamaville Nashville has some growing to do, lads. Let's see you work up a proper 'Dirty Socialist' movement; fill Legislative Plaza with your tents and 'tards and make us PROUD!

By: Loner on 10/24/11 at 7:35

All wars that are being fought to make the world safe for Zionism in the Jewish state are holy wars, Serr8d. The Afghanistan War and the Iraq War qualify as holy wars....we are fighting Jihadist Islamists, who are also fighting armed Jewish colonists in the so-called "Holy Land". Oh yeah, this is Divinely Sanctioned stuff.

Holy Wars Suck.

Obama is pulling the US forces out of Iraq, not to fulfill any campaign promises, but because the Iraq government said "NO" to Obama's plans to station thousands of US troops in Iraq for the foreseeable future. Obama is spinning this to look like he is fulfilling a campaign promise to his base...it's pure, unadulterated BS.

Of course, much of our war materiel and troops will now relocate to Kuwait....to await further invasion-occupation orders. BTW, Kuwait is still ruled by the same royal family that Bush the Elder saved from oblivion. No "Arab Spring" for the Kuwaitis....Kuwait serves as a vassal state to the US...a strategic ally...a safe staging area for US raids in the region...basically, Kuwait actually performs the role that Israel claims to be playing.

By: Loner on 10/24/11 at 7:47

Serr, agents provocateur are infiltrating these protests; therefore, the need for internal security is real...to identify and contain the paid troublemakers...they call these "security" people, "monitors"....and they provide some insurance against anarchy and counter-productive violence.

As for the age of my underwear...I go commando...ready to rock & roll at a moment's notice. I suppose that you, on the other hand, wear tighty whities...or right-wing camouflage briefs....yellow in the front, brown in the back.

I earned my Army shirt the hard way; I wear it to protests as a sort of receipt for dues paid.... to underwrite my right to speak out....the shirt still fits me; not many guys my age can say that...it's the only souvenir of my Army days that I still have.

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 7:50

Sir-8: I can't believe I'm older than you.
I was in college at the end of the war (1974).
With your consistent comments and their content, I would of thought you were in your late 80's.

By: Loner on 10/24/11 at 7:59

Serr wrote, "The Vietnam war demonstrations were a bit before my time, but I supported the Union hardhats who then were 'real men' who kicked those hippies' asses during their lunch breaks."

Serr supports unionized hard hat workers? Who knew?

I was there, class of '65...US Army '67-'69...the hard hats supported the carnage until their sons started coming home in body bags. After the tipping point was reached (between '67 and '69), the war became increasingly unpopular...even with the hard hats...yet it dragged on and on.

The Congress failed the nation miserably...they let the Executive Branch rule like dictators, Republican and Democrat alike. Not much has changed; wars usually have bipartisan support....when they start out.....eventually one party tires of the horror, and the thing winds down ever so slowly.

By: Loner on 10/24/11 at 8:37

Cain, the pizza pie-man who would be POTUS, is waffling on his half-baked abortion comments...he's apologizing to the born-agains....he kneads their dough.

I would like to put the following question to Herman Cain and the rest of the Republican hopefuls:

Given your well-publicized support for Israel, as the Jewish state, with a Divine Right to exist, and given your well-publicized views concerning the "right to life" issue, how can you still support US aid to Israel, when its state-sponsored abortion mills terminate close to 50,000 Israeli pregnancies every year? My source on that figure is from Friends of Efrat, an Israeli right to life group.

http://www.friendsofefrat.org/

It seems to me that US aid to Israel violates the spirit of both the Hyde Amendment and the so-called "Mexico City Policy". Why is Israel given special dispensation in this regard and would you, as president, continue with this double standard? If so, why?

All you CSA fans, we are discussing the rebel flag on Texas license plate flap here:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203752604576645410160692114.html?mod=WSJ_article_comments#articleTabs%3Dcomments&mg=com-wsj

Gov. Perry has pulled a Pontius Pilate on the all too familiar controversy claiming that it's up the the Texas DMV to decide...meanwhile, he's up on Niggerhead Mountain....hunting.

Did they decide to go for rebel flags on TN plates?

By: dargent7 on 10/24/11 at 9:46

The entire Republican field is dangerous.
And they call Obama a Socialist.....any one of these nut cases will completely ruin America.
Roll back 50 years of civil rights, women's rights, human rights.
Will, without a doubt, attack some foreign country to shopw how strong they are.
The more I listen to Obama speak, the more shocked I am he won the dang thing in '08.
He's too rational, sane, level headed, and smart for the Oval Office.
It was an intervention from God, Himself.

Yogi -

1.) On the gays - depends on your definition of normal. For you, a heterosexual male, then no, homosexuality isn't normal. For a gay man, whose natural attractions are to those of the same sex, then yes, it's perfectly normal. Just because you don't go to the store on Wednesday's because of what ever stupid conspiracy theory you drudged up, doesn't mean it's not normal for the rest of the world to go on that day.

2.) On the President - I get you THINK he took the office illegitimately. Fine. HOWEVER ever other branch/part of the of govt and the rest of the world, free or not, does recognize him as the president. So to take a page from the Republican book of the Bush admin, STFU and at least give the office the respect it deserves you anti-american POS.

3.) On abortion - oh where to go. It's as natural as a the mothers own body having a miscarriage. How about in case of rape? I bet you would love to have that kid in the family...or maybe you can adopt the kid!? Not to mention, are you willing to pay the welfare for all those babies you forced those women to have that have no way of supporting them to begin with? Just so you can say YAY life! Somehow I doubt it.....

By: Loner on 10/24/11 at 10:04

Oh, Obama is smart...smart enough to do as he is told; ever since last May, the man is paying back his backers, in hopes of getting their help in 2012. He has thrown the medical marijuana industry under the federal bus along with the Palestinian people. He would have kept US troops in Iraq, if he had been able to do so....last I knew, Gitmo was still holding detainees...and we are still in the process of securing a pipeline route through lawless Afghanistan, under the guise of liberation and nation-building....the neocon master plan.

The predator drones are whacking foreign leaders all over the globe....yeah, Obama got his mind right, boss...Peace Prize my @$$....three more nuclear aircraft carriers are under construction and that's just the tip of the military-industrial iceberg.

Obama is a war president....from now on, they all will be...there will be no ending to the global war on terror, whatever rights we surrender, as a "temporary" wartime sacrifice, are gone for good.

Do not get me wrong, Darge, my old friend, the TP-GOP field are terrible alternatives....another swaggering secessionist Texan, a Ken-doll heretic in magic underwear, an oreonic pizza pie-man and a pint-sized Joan of Arc...no thank you please.

I may sit the election out, or vote for the local gadfly candidate.

jvh2b,

I suspect that yogi just hasn't found the right man yet..... wait, he's into sheep. Totally different thing............

By: yogiman on 10/24/11 at 11:42

Sorry to be late, jhv2b. I just walked back in my house. But to comment about your comments. 1. First, I do not believe a person is naturally born a homosexual. They gain that way of life through the way they are living. No, it ain't normal.

2. On Obama in office. Yes, I don't only think he is in that office illegally, I know he is, and he does, too. What should be scaring the hell out of you and your fellow posters on this site is the fact that congress allowed it to happen.

What does that tell me? They are in the "program" with him.

Can explain why Nancy Pelosi sent the Hawaiian Secretary of State a different affidavit showing him to be the Democratic nominee than she sent to the other 49 Secretaries of State? Can you also explain why none of those secretaries assured his legal status before placing him on their home state ballots?

Can you also explain why the Electoral College voted in his favor without assuring he was legally eligible for that office? Can you also explain why the Senate approved their vote also without assuring he was legally eligible? Didn't think so.

Can you also explain why, when he was released of his American citizenship (if he was an American) when his stepfather adopted him into Indonesian citizenship so he could go to school in Indonesia.

By law, when you give your citizenship up and later become naturalized, you do not regain your natural born status back, if you had it before.

Grow up and learn a little about this nation and the rules of laws called our Constitution. If you're pro-communist, you've got it made because your boy is taking us down that road as fast as he can.

The next 13 months are going to be interesting. Let's see if he tries to pull the martial law off and take over.

Sorry to take up so much of your time on this post, but you had better start learning fast, unless you're already a communist.

By: yogiman on 10/24/11 at 11:57

jhv2b,

If you could get a little bit of education you would understand Ron Paul is the only one of the bunch who has constantly voted in favor the Constitution. Herman Cain has never been in a political office so you can't hold him to account on it.

He has shown himself to be a good businessman. He would only need to get a bunch of good 'men' in office with himself and I believe he could pull our nation out of the bankruptcy Obama is doing his best to take us into.

When it is declared we are bankrupt, a state of emergency will be declared and he will place the nation under martial law. You can forget about elections after that until the rebellion takes place.

Damn, I wish I was 30 years younger.
