I see where the university has fired Mr. Paterno. Its a shame because of his career there and success for the school, but if he knew of such a situation years ago as reported and did nothing about it, he got what he deserved.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 5:45

This is reminiscent of the Catholic church's pedophile priests.
It's vulgar and sickening.
How this "coach" was allowed, enabled, for years to molest college students who are at least 18 years old, and no one said anything, is beyond reality.
If Paterno knew, I don't care if he's 84, fire him NOW.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 6:12

I hadn't fired up the tv before I spoke...it's the lead story everywhere.
Paterno was FIRED (not by the Donald) last night and the students rioted.
Reminded me of a Michigan-Ohio State post game.
Still can't believe Paterno knew his coach was molesting students in the shower.
And, a 18 year old football player can't defend himself? Sissies.

By: Bellecat on 11/10/11 at 6:55

The university did the right thing, just did it a few years too late.

By: ethomas99 on 11/10/11 at 7:11

This guy set a foundation up for underprivileged boys then took his pick. I'm talking about young boys not 18 year old football players.

By: JeffF on 11/10/11 at 7:12

ummm, they weren't college kids. These boys were in the pre-teens. The incident with the graduate asst was the rape of a 10 yesr old. This was prototypical "monster" activity, Anyone who had information that another adult was doing this and did not contact LAW ENFORCEMENT deserves to go to jail. He got off easy by just losing his job.

By: girliegirl on 11/10/11 at 7:49

dargent, the boys were little, not 18...by any stretch.

By: Good.Grief.Guys on 11/10/11 at 8:05

The first person to come upon this situation should have grabbed a helmet and beat Sandusky until he couldn't stand up. I find it a REMARKABLE coincidence that this came to light (after 13 years) on the heals of Paterno breaking Ediie Robinson's record for wins by a division 1 coach. This thing stinks and will continue to do so for a LONG time...

Good Grief

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 8:21

I see where the university's president was also fired because he was also aware of the situation. But I see where a bunch of students were raising hell about the firing of Paterno.

Is it okay to them for him to stay on the job knowing such action was taking place by one of his coaches?

I see them as ignorant students. Makes me wonder what their actions might be if they were the abused students.

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 8:24

Not to change the subject, but... what do you all think of the remains of many of our war dead GIs be buried in a landfill?

I think I must have missed something here..
Yogiman, where is this story??

Good Grief

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 8:43

Good morning, Nashville.

Last I heard, Joe Paterno was resigning, but would stay through the football season. Looks like football Joe got the full heave-ho...the bum's rush. Good riddance!

I agree with the college authorities, Joe needs to go, right now, not later.

The rioting students were out of line, IMO. I have no sympathy for homosexual rapists who prey on vulnerable young boys or their enablers

The Penn State tragedy happened because colleges like Penn State have elevated intercollegiate athletics above academics, scholarship, citizenship and above the law.. Winning football games became an obsession. Everything else was secondary to that single goal.

Joe Paterno should not just be fired in disgrace; he should be in the slammer, sharing a bunk with Bubba, along with Sandusky, the Athletic Director and the Dean in charge of those areas.

Paterno never followed up on the tip(s) that Sandusky was a homosexual rapist...a serial child molester...Joe needed Sandusky to win games, so Joe helped with the cover-up. Joe is an accomplice to multiple felonies.

Shame on Joe Paterno, the football program and on Penn State itself...these scumbags allowed a monster to prey on his victims with impunity, for years.

Hopefully, the victims will be able to collect millions of dollars from Penn State and from the rape enablers like the football-obsessed Joe Paterno. and crew.

Paterno's glory will be forever tainted and that is how he should be remembered....Joe Paterno is an @sshole.

And Penn State will be forever stained by this monstrous scandal. The entire head shed needs to resign, IMO. And Penn State should pull the plug on its football program entirely....to re-establish its goals and clear its name.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 9:03

yogi is correct. The "story" is severed limbs have been "missplaced" and not "Return To Sender", ie., the United States.
Paterno is 85 next month. Listen to him talk to reporters.
My dad is 83 and makes no sense, either does this guy.
He can coach at 85? What was Penn State thinking?
Woody Hayes got fired as did Bobby Knight.
It's all nothing but a freakin' GAME.
But, when coaches turn a blind eye and look the other way to some dumb-ass gay coach raping 8 year olds in the shower, somebody is SICK. All of them will do prison time.
There, they can sodomize each other in the shower in plain sight.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 9:13

[yawn] How 'bout that Rick Perry? I often find my self looking for a word I've lost... more often than ever these days... but to forget which Federal Department you want to eliminate? Two out of three is pretty good... right?

Geezzzz.... somebody call Condi and Jeb before we end up losing this thing Jimmy Carter on steroids.

By: JeffF on 11/10/11 at 9:18

I will assume the department he could not remember was the Dept of Energy. I have a hard time remembering it myself because it defies logic that the thing even exists. Energy is not one of those Article I enumerated activities Same with the dept of education. How does a level of government not constitutionally allowed to educate have a department dedicated to that activity?

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 9:29

Jeff... my criticism isn't with the point but utter failure to deliver the certain point.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 9:31

Perry personifies the phrase, "The lights are on but nobody's home".
He's on the tv shows this am with his Texan drawl, "Aw, shucks". Makes Halley Barbour sound coherent.
That may fly well in Oklahoma and Mississippi, but Nationwide? Never.
This gaggle of dunces and idiots make Obama, who was already smart, look like Einstein.
Perry said to "Hannity" in his first 100 days he'd bomb Iran AND Syria.
Hannity had a notable erection hearing the news.
Republicans have a brain disorder that make retards look positively intelligent.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 9:32

Meanwhile Holder's gun-runner scheme to undermine 2nd amendment rights by arming Mexican drug-lords flies under the radar and Cain's innuendos garner front page status.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 9:35

Didn't we, as a country united, go thru this "He, he, he..." giggle, giggle, bullsh** with GW Bush?
"Bring it On"...and they did.
"Wanted: Dead or Alive"... and he never found bin Laden.
Gingrich, the serial adulteror, on his 3rd wife, is starting to lead the pack.
These debates are funnier than and Seinfeld episode and SNL.

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 9:37

Ben,yesterday we got zzzzzzzzzzzz's from you, now we get a yawn....not getting enough sleep while in the fart-sack? I understand.

You want another Bush in the White House, or a Bush toadie, like Condi Rice in there? Not happy with the S&L scams and taxpayer bailout under GHW Bush and the 2008 financial meltdown and taxpayer bailout under his son, GW Bush? You want another taxpayer bailout for yet another financial crisis engineered by another member of the Bush dynasty? Ben, you are a masochist.

I gotta ask, Ben, who are you working for? The Iranians? The Chinese? Some other enemy of the USA?

Sorry, Ben, it's too late for Jeb Bush or Condi to save the day....they missed the boat. Now, the GOP-TP is stuck with the sorry bunch we all saw on the tube last night....a serial lech, a Niggerhead Mtn rube, a whacky, posessed woman, a flip-flopping RINO heretic and some burned-out has-beens.....Obama will be no Jimmy Carter...he's a cinch to win re-election....unless the Mossad snuffs him, or something like that.

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 9:46

Ben, when an employer sticks his hand under a job-seekers skirt and says, in effect, "You wanna job, suck my d*ck, bitch", that is not an "innuendo". If you think that was a subtle hint, mere sexual innuendo, then I gotta wonder how you define sexual harassment.

You still support the horny, memory-challenged Pizza Pie-man, Ben?

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 9:49

All this slamming of Jimmy Carter.
He's matured into a phenom Internationally.
Not a Bill Clinton, but a superb diplomat and humanitarian.
The guy hammers houses together.
What has that Chimp-in-Chief done since he left office?
Name ONE country that has invited him to speak? NONE.
I voted for him just for the "Billy Beer" discounts his brother gave.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 9:51

L'ner: I bet a million bucks the senario Cain gave the white chicks was, "You're as tall as my wife..., she comes up to here,....when she's on her knees".

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 9:59

President Carter secured the Israel-Egypt peace treaty...it still stands, after 30 years...still the ingrate Jews hate the man's guts...Why? Because he wrote that book, "Palestine -Peace, not Apartheid". The world's Jews have tried to ruin Carter's legacy ever since...those people ore effin ingrates...ship 'em all out, to the Promised Land - one way tickets....then pull all US aid to the apartheid pariah state.

Of course, the Israelis would try to nuke us for that...so we nuke 'em first, right? (JK)

Darge is right, Jimmy Carter has been a model ex-president...Junior Bush is afraid to travel abroad...he's wanted for war crimes...Cheney too.

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 10:05

Darge, I'm sure that Cain waved his pepperoni in the face of many a blond white woman...think he's had a dose? Herpes? Clap?

Sounds like the man does not put a condom on before engaging in casual sex with strangers. Only Cain's pharmacist knows for sure.

And Cain's wife, Gloria, must be wise to the cocky tomcats cattin' around, or is she dumb as a tree stump? Gloria Cain as First Lady? First Idiot, perhaps....not First lady...thank you.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 10:05

The best they've been able to come up with yet is a serial accuser in financial distress Loner. He said, she said... all of that. You are quick to march Cain to his lynching though. I was totally turned off about Cain until I dug into the details and the fact is there are none. Maybe it will all come out like a Clinton pecker in a north Arkansas trailer park but the 'where there's smoke there's fire' assault is journalistic malfeasance... and just an excuse, in my mind, to keep Obama's gun-walker debacle off the radar... or a distraction from how Obama has destroyed the economy over the last few years, in promise and in practice.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 10:06

Check out the ad for "Snorgtees" in the left margin...the teen has her pants unzipped and a weird expression.
Kinda offensive in light of the topic we're discussing, no?

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 10:09

That article was taken from the Washington Post. I read it through the Drudge report.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 10:12

They must profile you a little differently than me Darge... I'm getting Mortgage Offers and Graduate School ads.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 10:15

BenD: Your post is factually incorrect in many areas and points:
Obama has NOT ruined the economy in 3 years. GW Bush ruined not only the economy but America's reputation in invading Iraq.
Now, other numbskulls in the Republican party want to show how big their balls are by bombing Iran and Syria. Including the women running.
Cain's 4 women are telling the truth, as did Anita Hill did against Clarence Thomas.
America is so afraid of offending someone we cannot tell the truth any more.
And if you think our Halls of Justice is where the "truth" exists, I've got a bridge for sale.
Obama's level head was and is a gift from God in comparison to the Republican field running for the office.

And Hillary Clinton was FIRST WHAT? Oh, first lady with head buried in sand while bill was burying his head elsewhere? Pleeeeeze.

Look Loner, every man in America has a target on his zipper and his pocketbook; women can be downright nasty. I can tell you that the bimbo who accused Herman Cain of "standing too close" has had more than one of those sexual harrassment suits and she's a DEMO "RAT". I bet when Obama found out about her, he gave her a raise (the one behind his zipper)!

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 10:17

The ads do change, minute by minute.
Now, I have an Chili's ad.
There is a testosterone ad in The Tennessean I'm particulary fond of, however.

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 10:17

It looks like you and your friendly fellow posters on this site are all dumbocraps' You find Cain guilty until he can prove himself innocent, eh? What happened to your constitutional thoughts?

Are they now like our "guvmunt's" attitudes, guilty until proven innocent?

The best they've been able to come up with yet is a serial accuser in financial distress Loner.

Keep it going Ben. You are so correct. MEN, guard your zippes and your wallets. These kind of women are after you! And many (Bill Clinton) are stupid enough to fall for it. NOT HERMAN CAIN.

Anita Hill is the reason I don't drink Coke. She's also a bimbo. Please. Can someone just ignore these women? If you are a woman and you truly understand life, these comments won't even come your way; and if they do, you'll field them properly and not cause grief for everyone in your life and the life of the "so-called" offender.

A joke that is passed around in the office should not be read; it should be ERASED before you read it so you won't have an excuse to BE OFFENDED SEXUALLY. Pleeeeeeeeezzzze.

and Joe Paterno passed on the information to the proper authorities. So was he supposed to be the police and the parents after that? NOT! WHERE ARE THE PARENTS WHEN THEIR CHILDREN ARE BEING SEXUALLY ABUSED? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 10:20

Ben...let me set the record straight, Bush and Cheney oversaw the last meltdown- bailout fiasco....not Obama. It happened on Bush's watch, as did 9-11. The man was a double disaster.

As for "Herb" Cain, it's not "She said- he said"; it's "They said, he said". Big diff.

How many more abused women will have to bear the shame and vicious right-wing assaults, by simply coming forward, before you start to see Cain's pattern of abuse, Ben? Four accusers is not enough? What is your personal threshold for victim credibility? Ten? Twenty?

So, you agree with Mister Pepperoni, this is a media witch-hunt, a high-tech lynching of an innocent, maligned, black man. Ben, I can understand Yogi or Bud thinking along those lines, but you are a whole lot smarter than that.

Bottom line: Cain is apathetic loser and a full-blown @sshole. Cain was never vetted properly, now the Republican Party is paying the price for their laziness. Poetic justice, IMO.

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 10:24

How can you swear those women are telling the truth? Was you there when it happened? Did you actually hear his comments to them?

Didn't think so, but being a downright stupid dumbocrap you find the man guilty by accusation.

Has the bartending business changed so much? In my youth most of the bartenders I knew were pretty smart men. They kept aware of world knowledge. It helped with the business in "talking" to the drunks in their bar.

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 10:28

I have read where Joe Paterno learned of that happenings years ago and did nothing about it.That is his guilt. Not his admitting to it when it was brought up front by others.

By: yogiman on 11/10/11 at 10:31

They ain't stopped bring more women in to "swear" Herman Cain made advances toward them. How about keeping track of the count?

If you are as intelligent as you "appear" to be, why are you so willing to believe the women instead of Herman Cain. Could this be a racist factor?

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 10:34

Cain must not be capable of experiencing the human emotion that we call, "shame". Cocksure and self-deluded, the cocky pizza-man stood at his podium just beaming with personal pride and arrogance during last night's "debates".

No, we do not need a jerk like Cain anywhere near government, or elected office. Cain is an opportunist who exploited the need for token blacks in corporate America. Cain constantly plays the race card, to cover his serious shortcomings and his abysmal character flaws.

Cain is a lobbyist...it's bad enough when lobbyists bribe lawmakers and write the laws...when they run for elected office, we must draw the line.

Dick Cheney was a politician turned lobbyist, then a lobbyist turned politician and we saw how that turned out...we are facing national insolvency because of that jerk and his chimp-like boss, Junior Bush - the idiot son of an @sshole.

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 10:38

So, Ben, are you aligning yourself with our resident right-wing trolls, Yogi and Bud, in defense of poor old Herman Cain? Good luck with that, my old friend.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 10:44

Darge... the economy tanked on the promise of electing our first commie president. While he was running around saying he wanted to double the capital gains taxes out of 'fairness' and bankrupt the coal industry... as he climbed in the polls, the people with something to lose took notice and began hedging.

Bush and Bernanke staved off a complete run on the banks with TARP I (which has been completely repaid with interest - look it up). The problem is that Obama took all of those repayments and respent them.

He additionally changed the trend line in national deficits from the $400B range covering the war supplementals up by $1T+ a year to the $1,500,000,000,000 range per year we suffer now. All the while he's done a full Keynesian 'spend us out of the recession' model that just sustained and propped up the bad behavior of bloated state governments by propping up the bureaucracies for political advantage and giving other people's money, in the form of more debt for our grandchildren, to prop up key Senate districts in the last election.

Now his NRLB is bragging about killing jobs, his attorney general is answering questions about acts of war in his gun-running fiasco with Mexico and the tenuous relationship of Egypt and Israel you mentioned earlier has been totally undermined by Obama not supporting Mubarrack over the crazy Muslims who overthrew another US ally.

His relentless attack on fossil energy in this country to the detriment of all energy consumers is now revealed as selfish support for Crony Faux Solar energy companies who have rebated a big percentage of the tax dollars given to them directly to the Obama re-election campaign.

His political class warfare attacks have kept businesses in wait-and-see mode while they try to figure out what the taxes and regulations will be tomorrow and how the unfolding obamacare law will be interpreted and advanced by the executive bureaucrats and used to further undermine company profits and competitiveness in the world market.

Yeah... this should have been a cake walk but the media has been laying down artillery fire against the conservatives, destroying and undermining at every turn; and then they will be the Hope and Change megaphone for the administration again without offering an iota of criticism of a record that only Jimmy Carter could be happy about because Carter will no longer be judged as America's worst president.

More women are sure to come out and go public about Cain's sleazy modus operandi...especially if Gloria Allred can convince enough Senators to hold hearings on the state of sexual harassment and corporate compliance with applicable federal law. Let Herman testify under oath.

I'd like to see Herman perjure himself and go to federal prison for lying to Congress...he can bunk with Bubba and get a whole new perspective on sexual harassment. Herman needs to hear Bubba admonishing him with: "You wanna keep those pearly white teeth, Herman, then suck my d*ck, bitch!" That would be true justice, IMO.

Cain is so self-delusional that he cannot see that he is finished politically. Bud and Yogi are too dull to realize that too. Pitiable.

The GOP leadership needs to take a lead pipe to Herman Cain...he's stinking up the place....maybe they will simply buy him out...Cain loves money, almost as much as he loves white poontang.

This is he guy that the Koch Brothers wanted for POTUS...what hostile foreign government are they working for? Sheeeesh!

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 11:05

Nixon and Junior Bush already share the honor of "worst US President ever", Ben...both Republicans, o0f course.

"Herb" Cain and Loopy Perry are out. Mitt will never galvanize the Christian bigots who comprise the TP-GOP base; ergo, Obama will win another term by default.

The US economy will further erode for another four years of Obama, as the fat cat employers and bankers sit it out for another 4 years....after all, they are international entities...they do not need a healthy US economy in order to make huge profits....after four more years of Congressional gridlock and an accelerated deterioration of US credit ratings, the nation may say, "Uncle!"... and vote the fat cats back into power...out of sheer desperation and fear.

Again, as long as Obama does what Netanyahu demands, as he is now doing, his job is safe. The Jewish money and Jewish power people have their own agenda....eternal holy war, at Israel's behest.
Obama is definitely cool with doing what they tell him to do.....all the candidates are cool with that.

By: dargent7 on 11/10/11 at 11:08

To clear the air...I am NOT a bartender by education or trade.
I have "bartended" at many Tenn. events as part time work. Just did the "Beer, Burbon, BBQ" at the Arena on Saturday.
Now to the important: If anyone believes Herman Cain at this juncture, they are severely mental/ emotionally/ physically deficient.
And I suppose you same people find Rick Perry "amusing".

I'm no fan of Gloria Allred, but she's no dummy and she vetted that last one.
How about Tiger Woods? You all think 16 women lied?
What's it take to get a southerner's attention around here?
A freakin' two-by-four?

Everybody pays taxes, Ben; the poorest Americans often pay more in taxes, proportionally, than our richest Americans pay. Therefore, tax revenues are "everybody's money", not "other people's money", as Rush Limbaugh and his gullible followers like to say. Please, retire that phony rhetoric, Ben.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 11:14

Nixon got us out of Vietnam... started the EPA. His problem was in trusting that the CIA could cover up a rogue political stunt to steal and make public the little black book of pleasure women the democrats kept for their higher ups and big donors

GW's bad rep. is a fabrication, as I have pointed out on numerous occasions.

By: BenDover on 11/10/11 at 11:17

Bush 41 is worthy of the criticism though... since he started a huge insurection in Iraq in '91 and left them to be slaughtered for political reasons in an event that made the bay of pigs look tame in comparison.

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 11:21

As for Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian dictator, the US should be ashamed of itself for propping up that sadistic tyrant for 30+ years...simply to take some military pressure off of the Jewish state in Palestine.

Again, Israel's national interest are often in conflict with genuine US interests...but all that AIPAC, JACPAC, NORPAC, COPOMAJO, ZOA and JINSA money and pressure has turned our federal lawmakers into hi-paid servants of a foreign theocracy.....and it's all perfectly legal.

Anyone who complains is an "anti-Semite". Nobody wants THAT.

By: Loner on 11/10/11 at 11:28

Nixon kept the war going, as a political tactic, so as to secure a second term...then the guy let the carnage continue for additional years...those are the facts, Ben...I lived through it.

Junior Bush was never Presidential timber...the royal family concept has been proven to be disastrous...that's why we are a republic, not a monarchy...but the GOP - ideological descendants of loyalist Tories - has never felt comfortable with democracy and the people's choice....they are now reduced to begging Jeb Bush to save them.....disgusting!
