Up for Debate: Kings take NHL throne

Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 12:29am

What are your reactions to the L.A. Kings winning the Stanley Cup in six games over the New Jersey Devils? Were you pleased with the series — pleased with the outcome? Do you think an eight-seed winning in the fashion it did speaks well of the NHL Playoffs or poorly? Some things to consider: The Kings won 12 of 14 games to make it to the finals, knocked off the top three seeds in the Western Conference, and jumped out to 3-0 series leads in all four series.

Notice James Gandolfini, Mr. Tony Soprano in the stands?
They had better win or say bye-bye Mr. Coach, Mr. Goalie, and the entire front line.
It's almost impossible to come back from a 4-0, 2nd Period deficit, the Devils found themselves in.

The Devils gave a valiant effort in winning two straight, but the Kings just steamrolled everyone. I haven't seen a playoff run like theirs in a long time. Congratulations to L.A. and their fans.

Well, now that the season's officially over...does Suter stay or does he go? With Lidstrom retiring, it doesn't bode well...neither does it that Suter has family in Chicago...if he goes in the division...well that would suck.

Good for them. Go Preds!!

In my youth as a young man, we did not play hockey the way they play hockey today. Back then we used dried cow patties and we were men enough to not have to ware helmets and face mask.

You say the Kings defeated the Devils? Monarchy triumphed over Satanism. Isn't that special? And I thought that there was no redeeming social value in pro ice hockey...I stand corrected.

Thank goodness it's baseball season!

"Kings take NHL throne" Ad this to the list of Things Nobody Cares About.

By: Rasputin72 on 6/12/12 at 7:31

Ice Hockey is a nice sport for the people who like Ice Hockey. Whether the Kings win it or the Dukes or the Queens is of no real consequence to those people who like to see NBA basketball.

By: gdiafante on 6/12/12 at 7:38

Well Papa, you care. You care to take the time to post the other day about hockey ratings, and now take the time to post here as well.

Isn't that special.

By: dargent7 on 6/12/12 at 7:38

Never noticed a brother on any NHL team.
In the NBA, 90% are from the hood. Why's that?

By: gdiafante on 6/12/12 at 7:39

So, your point is that people who like hockey, like hockey. And people who like basketball, like basketball.

Wow...I bet it took you all day to figure that one out...

By: gdiafante on 6/12/12 at 7:42

Demographics, darge. Minorities typically participate in cheaper sports, like soccer, basketball, etc. Hockey is not cheap. Trust me.

Right; anyone can play basketball in their driveway or park. Ditto bb, fb. Plus most schools offer those organized sports as well as soccer but not hockey or polo or jai alai or shooting your buddy with a skeet gun.....

By: BenDover on 6/12/12 at 9:40

I think local climate is a contributor to it as much as poverty.

Not much of a culture of ice skating in the South where the higher concentrations of minority African Americans and Hispanics are.

You forgot golf and tennis.....

Socio-economic is one thing.
Center-of-gravity, another.
Hockey players are stocky, maybe 5'9". Built like a NFL linebacker, eg., Barry Sanders.
Basketball players ave. 6'9".
The short guys are 6'2".
Maybe too tall to bend over at 45 degrees to control the puck?
That one goalie was 6'5'' and nothing got past him.....until his team lost.

I see where our Inferior [Supreme] Court has once again refused to hear a new appeal on "Obama's" birth certificate issue. What are they afraid of, finding they have been acting like idiots since the first case they refused to hear and its caught up with them?

They say it isn't justified even though Alan Keyes was one of the candidates in the 2008 race.

Regrettably, they get a life sentence when appointed to the (what used to be) Supreme Court.

They need time limits like the state Supreme Courts.

By: gdiafante on 6/12/12 at 11:49

They undersand that there's nothing there, yogi. Just to remind you, they're the branch that reviews laws to make sure they're constitutional (like health care). So if they don't see Obama as violating the requirements of the Constitution, case closed.

By: bfra on 6/12/12 at 12:49

yogi can't get no respect, no matter how much garbage he puts on the board.

By: yogiman on 6/12/12 at 1:07

I like the way your feeble brain works, gdiafarte. You don't have to do much thinking on an issue. If the inferior court is right today, when was the finding of the Minor v. Happersett concluded to be wrong?

Two points, gdiafarte: if you feel you're a communist in line with Obama, you're in the bow of the boat with him. But if you feel like you're a red blooded American, I feel sorry for you for your disappointment when it all goes BANG at the end.

By the way, have you read the Supreme Court's decision on the Minor v. Happersett case? It's the only written finding on the determination why she was a natural born citizen by an American Supreme Court. Both of her parents were American citizens.

Are you saying only one of the parents needs to be one and the father can even be a foreigner?

By: yogiman on 6/12/12 at 1:10

Surprise, bfra. I'm not looking for respect from people like you. I can only exchange respect with people I can feel respect for..., and it ain't you.

By: bfra on 6/12/12 at 1:35

yogi - Don't fret, there has been no respect for you offered by anyone that I have read.

By: gdiafante on 6/12/12 at 1:37

I think yogi has brain damage...seriously. We've had the conversation about Minor, and I clearly illustrated why that is not the legal precedent that is being followed. I can only guess that you either did not understand what I wrote or you choose to ignore it...or both.

And yes, if lower courts continually throw out these silly cases because they have no merit and the USSC continually declines to review the issue, I would say that the issue is moot.

In other words, you're a dumbass.

By: BenDover on 6/12/12 at 2:19

A 6'1" Hockey player walks into a gay piano bar... orders a Lindsay Lohan... sympathetic bartender serves up a Carrie Underwood instead.

By: yogiman on 6/12/12 at 2:36

I guess we read the Supreme Court findings differently, gdiafarte. I'm sure we think differently, also.

Obama is not the main issue here. He's only one next in line in the takeover of the USA into One World Government. Go back into George Bush, Bill Clinton, GHW Bush and Jimmy Carter. I can't remember Ronald Reagan making any comments about a One World Government but every other one mentioned here has brought the subject up. Why? Why has someone who doesn't legally qualify for that office been put in it?

Think of me as you wish, but unless you are in the One World Government scheme, you guys had better start doing some serious thinking if you want to keep this nation as it was founded.

Try a little serious thinking, guys. Too many people opposing Obama now are dying. Do you think they're natural deaths? BS. The SEAL "accident" was no accident and there has been, and will be more.

Sorry, slacker,

It doesn't seem to be working too well on you so I'm not going to take the idiotic chance you took.

Maybe if you quit gulping it down hoping for improvement, you might refresh that little tidbit of a brain you used to have..
