Good morning, Nashville!

What do you make of Metro's $2.8 million deal to purchase the 181-acre Ravenwood Country Club to preserve it as open space for the city?

Hey, Metro gives away a lot more than a lousy 2.8 million dollars without any debate and without any discussion on a routine basis....the recent LifePoint multi-million dollar tax-abatement giveaway is a prime example of that. No debate...no discussion....quickly rubbber stamped by Council.

Metro will do what it wants to do regardless of what the public needs or wants. This golf course purchase is no different....it's almost as if the details surrounding the spending your tax money was none of your damn business.

Now, to rudely change the subject, here is a link to the Medina Journal Register newspaper, out of Medina, NY.

http://journal-register.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx

Click on the image to enlarge....that's the lone one with a fellow protester - on the front page of the JR...it's the Dec. 22 issue of the daily paper. The photo was taken last Monday, on the Courthouse campus, in Albion, NY, the county seat of Orleans Co.

Now you know my real name and what I actually look like.....hope it's not too disappointing or alarming.....enjoy!

"Golf courses and cemetaries are the biggest waste of prime realestate."
Rodney Dangerfield, Caddyshack

Of course, "yogi" plays with himself at a golf coarse.

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 7:24

Landfills are often located on what would have been prime real estate too, Darge...the word "landfill" is a euphemism for a "dump".

They don't stop, once the land has been filled...they keep piling the refuse higher and higher, until the original depression becomes a small mountain....eventually, Sherpa guides are needed above the timber line at these "landfills"...snow capped year around, they keep "filling in" the land....low-flying aircraft are routed around the site as brave men, breathing from oxygen tanks, operate the bulldozers, high above the clouds.

I guess you really are a long-haired stinking old pinko commie hippie.
Glad I'm not the only one. :)

Keep up the good work!

By: Kosh III on 12/23/11 at 7:37

I'm all for open/green space, this is next to a popular Greenway, the longest continuous greenway in city.

I don't know if keeping the pool is good or not, they are expensive to maintain and there are always the safety/insurance issues.

I just wish Metro would not leave other parks unfinished. Beaman has been left hanging for several years with it's ADA-compliant boardwalk not done because the city allegedly can't afford it.

By: govskeptic on 12/23/11 at 7:46

Franklin bailed out it's failed country club, Metro bails out the failed or failing Ravenwood Country Club, what are city revenues for if not to help the wealthy
get rid of their failing playgrounds? Any excuses for purchase will do!

By: dargent7 on 12/23/11 at 8:03

What is Nashville trying to be with all these country clubs?
Except for the rich and retirees, who plays golf?
Who among us can afford the private clud's $50,000 initial membership fee, go thru a panel of judges critiquing your life, and then pay $100. a month in Membership Dues?
The Public Courses are ok, but riff-raff can tear the place up.
Divot city.

Thanks, Kosh...keepin' the faith.

Corporate welfare, in the form of a charity purchase, Gov? Could very well be....corporate welfare is very popular in the red states.....aid to individuals, however, is loathed - it's a "moral hazard" for individuals...but not for corporations...according to GOP-TP logic.

The WSJ is already blaming Obama, not Bush-Cheney for the impending implosion of Iraq...I left the following comment on their biased editorial here:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204552304577114580259678226.html?mod=WSJ_article_comments#articleTabs%3Dcomments

My WSJ comment:

This incredibly biased article states, "the Obama Administration pulled out all U.S. troops to cash a campaign chip". That's utter BS. President Obama tried to negotiate an extension of US presence, but was unsuccessful in convincing the Iraqis to go along with extending the US occupation.

Bush and Cheney set up the sitting president when they negotiated the withdrawal agreement back in 2008. The Dec 31, 2011 departure date leaves an 11-month window of opportunity for Iraq to fail, before the 2012 elections.

The GOP is now praying for failure in Iraq...they are already blaming President Obama for the utter failure of the ludicrous neocon scheme to spread democracy at gunpoint, in the Middle East.

And the once prestigious and credible Wall Street Journal is leading the pack of right-wing media organs in praising Bush while condemning Obama for the failures in Iraq. This is beneath yellow journalism and lurid sensationalism...this is pure propaganda.

You're right, dargent7. I prefer playing my rounds of cow pasture pool with intelligent people. Its a shame I can't find any one this site.

By: dargent7 on 12/23/11 at 8:37

Youg: You play on which golf coarse?

By: yogiman on 12/23/11 at 8:49

Loner,

It looks like you and your cohorts had better get ready for NCP to "go along with the program". My recent try to make remarks on other sites would only take Facebook. You're either in the game or sitting on the bench watching the others play.

By: yogiman on 12/23/11 at 9:02

dargent7,

If Youg is your misspelling of yogi you might like to re-read my comment. I don't play on a golf coarse. I play out in my cow pasture. It's a different game.

By: bfra on 12/23/11 at 9:16

I was told by a lady that works in Human Resources that, lots of companies are checking facebook pages on people for new job applications. Guess that's a beware what you post on facebook.

By: Rasputin72 on 12/23/11 at 9:17

Davidson County continues to run up the tax bill for future Davidson Countiians. Davidson County will survive but anyone with an income of less than $300,000 dollars a year and young children should be moving into an adjacent county. From a residential point of view Davidson County is not the future.

By: numenlumen on 12/23/11 at 10:12

yogiman's right about Fecebook. I can't even get it to register the coments on the fishwrapper so I can read them. On the other hand, that rag has loosened up its critaria for publishing letters now that their obnoxious N-word editor has departed into a long-deserved retirement. I noticed one by darge and recently one by carlos; theyy even published one of mine, the first in a couple of years, as recall.

By: numenlumen on 12/23/11 at 10:15

Rasputin72:

Right you are about the tax bill run up by the profligate politicians of Davidson County. However, I don't think you went far enough! There's the intrusive nannying regulation that seems to pervade all aspects of life in the place. I'd suggest moving more than a full county away from the stink of this overflowing cesspool.

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 10:25

Numenlumen...nice username....welcome to the board...no FB here yet...I am not a FB user either...I do not trust it....it's Big Brother's sleazy cousin...IMHO.

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 10:27

And welcome to you too, Rasputin....are you a mad Russian monk with supernatural gifts too? They claim he was a lady's man.

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 10:31

I hear that, bfra.....can't say that I can blame the employers....they have to protect their business too. I'm glad that I am out of the rat race...retirement is nice like that.

Maybe the NCP will attract the Anti-Face Book rebels? Or will this paper go along with the herd?

By: dargent7 on 12/23/11 at 10:33

Yes. There was that EMT ass*hole who posted racial slurs on his Facebook page. In uniform, no less. Obviously a genius, he was fired after being warned once. I guess once a racist, always a racist. It's in the DNA. Passed down from ma and pa.

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 10:33

good pic, loner.

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 10:35

It wasn't racial I don't think... he was bustin' on fags.

By: dargent7 on 12/23/11 at 10:39

L'ner: I don't get your reticence for using Facebook.
You can put ANYTHING on your "Profile" page. You can say you went to MIT, graduated as Valedictorian, and scored a 1,600 on your SAT's.
They do not fact check, or do backround checks. Lucky for you, no drug testing, either.
People should be proud of who they are and what they've become.
Only Republicans should cower in the corner of the closet and be ashamed of what they've become. Who they voted for. Who they supported.
The rest of us can just, "tell it like it is...and was".
After all, who really gives a shit?

By: san r on 12/23/11 at 10:43

cesspool is a panoramic description. i see from my house by the side of the road by the side of the highway of life men and women who are faint from the strife some who are good some who are bad as good and as bad as i. i TRY to not turn away from their hunger pains, their loud jalopies, their unkept houses with doors falling off their new low-income habitat dwellings, their undisciplined, uncultivated off-spring, their trash throwing tantrums and last but not least politicians who work hard to keep poverty and ignorance, very much, alive and well, too fill metro's coffers and jails and funeral homes and walmarts and drug corners and drug stores for years and years to come. IT'S GENETIC.

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 11:19

Thanks, Ben. I think it was rather flattering...from a rebel's point of view.

Darge wrote, in reference to Face Book privacy concerns, "After all, who really gives a shit?" Seems like employers, professional zealots, stalkers, salesmen and the government give a shit....include me out, thank you.

Welcome to the board, san r.....don't sugar coat it, let us know how you really feel.....(just yankin' yer chain)

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 11:40

Yeah, Darge, good thing there's no drug testing... in order to be able to post...but that could be coming down the road...we HAVE the technology and certainly there is a constituency in favor of doing just that....for the cheeeeldren!

"We don't want no dopers poisoning young minds...piss test the posters!"

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 11:49

Just sampled some New York Green....@ss-kickin herb superb....the Empire State may have to change it's nickname to the Hempire State.....uncork New York....and light up some New York Green....Happy Holidays!

Oh shit...now they may take my pension? "Piss in zeh glass, old man...vee are prepared to vait."

Newt once called for the death penalty for marijuana dealers, or so some claim....this post may show up at my witch hunt trial...but until then....as Willie says, "...and let not mankind bogart love".

Long live Willie!

By: yogiman on 12/23/11 at 11:52

I agree on your 9:33 post, BenDover. Nice looking lady.

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 11:58

Yogi, it's customary to ask the hippie for permission before smoozin' on his snatch.

By: yogiman on 12/23/11 at 12:02

Sorry, no offense intended. But, hell, I'm not going to NY. And I didn't recognize him. I thought that was that ugly guy down the road that's still using that "outhouse".

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 12:13

Loner was decades ahead of his time on the Occupy movement, yogi.

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 12:22

Thank you, Ben, for protecting the lone one's turf...I was busy posting on 2 WSJ sites just now. I'll post the URL's if you like.

Yogi is right on 2 counts...Diana is indeed good looking and she is a lady. She is a loyal and dear friend; she plays our grand piano and our Johnson pipe organ, in the church that we both belong to...the Pullman Universalist-Unitarian Memorial Church...a gift of George Pullman, in 1894...he invented and built the Pullman sleeping cars and became a tycoon...he grew up in Albion, NY...my home town too.

But I'm no tycoon.....snooze, you lose, I suppose.....but Pullman made a buck off of snoozing...and his generosity is certainly appreciated by the sleepy lone one.

I'll tell Diana that they love her in Nashville...OK?

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 12:24

".... and Johnson pipe organ"? You made that up, right?

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 12:26

She seems like a cool lady, lone one. Feel free to send a shout-out from Nashville,

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 12:38

Doctor Dover...still, you doubt the lone one...have you no faith, brother?

Behold:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pullman_Memorial_Universalist_Church_Johnson_Pipe_Organ.jpg

The great Johnson can vibrate the foundation stones of the sandstone edifice....and stress the stained glass, when all the stops are pulled out....behind the big pipes and keyboard is an "engine room" of sorts...not very pretty, but truly awesome.

We have guest virtuoso organists come in and work our Johnson to the max, every so often...our regular organists are both very competent.

The church features custom-made Tiffany stained glass windows.

Trouble is, our congregation is tiny and our church needs expensive repairs and restoration...we need a sugar daddy, or a sugar mama....any suggestions?

By: Loner on 12/23/11 at 12:45

She is a very cool lady, Ben...I'll tell her that you dig her....to use an old beatnik expression.

Diana actually instigated the weekly protest idea...I already had the sign and I got the time....we are getting traction in Albion...."Economic Justice" is the over-arching theme and common denominator for the scattered Occupy Movements...and the anti-war thing is a natural adjunct to that, IMO.

By: BenDover on 12/23/11 at 12:46

With a Johnson like that I'm sure something will pop up, loner.

I've got to step out for a little while... help a friend with a computer issue and then decide if I want to increase the burdens of next week by blowing off the day today and tomorrow.

Merry Christmas all if I don't get back before then.

Merry Christmas to Ben and all here...later!

Loner out.

Loner - That is a beautiful Church & very impressive organ. Happy Holidays!

By: yogiman on 12/23/11 at 3:31

I agree, Loner. That is a beautiful church. Nice looking group of people shown. But who is that ugly odd looking guy with the only beard in the "house"?

Hope Santa is good to you and yours.

By: yogiman on 12/24/11 at 11:29

numemlumen,

Since I'm retired and don't have to worry about anyone reading a personal data log on me, and I have been signing by my (legal) name on several other sites, I've decided to go along with Facebook. Hell, they already know me (even on this site) and I'll be able to get my points of view across on issues.

And by my signing using my legal name puts me one up on Barry Soetoro since he signs Barack Hussein Obama as his official name.
