Up for Debate: MNPS to cut 100-plus jobs

What do you make of Metro Nashville Public Schools' announcement that 100-plus teacher aide positions would be cut as federal stimulus money vanishes? The move comes at a time when a property tax increase is before the Metro Council, and Mayor Karl Dean has said that new tax revenue would not only allow for the hiring of more teachers, increasing their starting salary by $5,000 annually, but also prevent to loss of 50 police officers hired via a federal COPS grant. Are the MNPS cuts a good move, bad move or just plain necessary move?

Stimulus wasn't big enough? Holy crap dude... how long do you think we can prop up as much as 10% of GDP with deficit spending? That's the math that doesn't work and the reason there's been no private sector recovery is because everyone knows that chicken must eventually come home to roost.
Breaking government windows to advance the economy forgets that spending is fungible and that money would have otherwise been spent on productive purposes that didn't necessarily involve Obama's favorite voting blocks.
Now we're staring down unsustainable spending levels that were ratcheted up under a flawed Keynesian philosophy that is so popular with the government class (because it rationalizes their desired behavior spend and it's easy to ignore the call of Keynesian economics to pay back the deficits in the good times); and not only do we have a great big tab for all the spending we've already done but also we have raised on-going spending levels to add to the hang-over.
Once again, to quote the great slack one:

Hawaii has "verified" a birth certificate, dargent7. If it is actually a certified birth certificate, why has it been kept under lock and key so long and millions spent to keep it and all other papers on Obama under lock and key? Let's see what they show the officers from Sheriff Arpaio's Passe going over there to see it.
They only "verified" it because the Sec. of State of Arizona said he would pull Obama's name from their ballot if they didn't certify his birth record.
Another question: Why did that publisher show him as being born in Kenya when promoting his literature in 1991 and repeating it in 2007? Why was his birthplace changed in 2008? Could it just possibly be because he wasn't thinking about running for president from 1991 to 2008?

eastsidegirl nailed it. Actually, our property tax rate is really low compared to cities of similar size. Services are not free!
Our taxes are higher than Willliamson County, Rutherford County and Wilson County all of which have great neighborhoods and services.
Davidson County has more population, though.

If they have to let 50 cops go, I hope that they keep that cop who could smell Cannabis growing inside people's homes....from a distance....Officer Gruff, or something along those lines....he has a nose for trouble....worth 50 cops and 50 police dogs for sure.
And if some teachers have to be let go, let's hope that they fire the teachers who teach about evolution and those pesky "gateway body parts". Fire the liberals!

I'm a "birther", Beernazi? I must disagree. I'm an American citizen that wants a natural born American citizen as required by my nation's Constitution in my White House. And I don't have one currently. I know it, and Barry Soetoro (a.k.a. Barack Obama) knows it.
