The best media scene (NCP) is about to leave the scene. Can they be replaced as the best?

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 5:14

The Tennessean is an absolute joke, both online and print. So are the "meteorologists" from local TV media. They're into a pissing contest about who has the biggest Doppler/3D/super-ultra high def radar or causing panic because said radar indicated that there might be some rotation on some gravel road near Bell Buckle or Bucked Teeth, Tennessee.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 5:53

The news channel meteorologists are simply actors (in a sense), gdiafante. They can only give the forecast issued by the National Weather Service. And they each try to put on the best show. Wouldn't you, if that's what you was being paid to do?

Can you imagine the forecasts if they were in competition in forecasting the weather?

What irks me with the news media is them telling us at 6 o'clock what what they're going to tell us at 10 o'clock in their effort to get you to watch their channel instead of one of their competitors.

That way, you get to see more of their advertisements.

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 6:01

Pay attention, yogi, I did not mention forecasts, I discussed how they report storms and/or precipitation. I get it, radar has advanced. I just don't care that it will be raining on Bob's Road at 4:46 pm.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 6:43

Please excuse me, gdiafane, I misinterpreted what you was trying to post in your first posting. When you mentioned 'meteorologist', I thought you meant the actors on the news programs "forecasting" the weather.

Sorry, please accept my humble apology.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 6:52

You're right on weather radar's advancement. I was the first "weather man" on radar in Nashville and ours was the only one in this area at that time. You see them overlapping everywhere now.

I just wonder how many of them are owned by the government and operated by government meteorologists, or are owned and operated by private businesses since they can only observe but can't make forecasts from them.

They ain't cheap, you know.

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 6:55

I have no idea, yogi. I would guess that the government doesn't because they are privately owned stations. But who knows anymore.

By: Moonglow1 on 7/25/13 at 7:11

Moonglow1: Dear Nashville City Paper, you are the best. Can't you stick around and increase your media ads. Surely you can keep competitive. Anyway, you do a great job and will be missed.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 7:26

TMZ is all I need.

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 7:41

Well I'm gonna to go then! And I don't need any of this. I don't need this stuff, and I don't need you. I don't need anything. Except TMZ.

And that's the only thing I need is TMZ. I don't need this or this. Just TMZ... And this paddle game. - TMZ and the paddle game and that's all I need... And this remote control. - TMZ, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need... And these matches. - TMZ, and these matches, and the remote control, and the paddle ball...

Fixed that for ya, Jug...lol

Oh, my. The Twitter tells me the NCP is forever closing, leaving the City of Nashville with only that unreadable rag "Pravda on the Cumberland", and that flyblown half-smoked hippie joint 'The Scene' (best seen, not read).

So, another big question, where does that leave the denizens of this here 'community'? Floating on "an ocean of tomorrows, a sky of tomorrows" ?

Where are y'all going next?

(Warning! Other online commenting communities have these so-called 'Discus' thingers that are beset with (gasp!) 'hyperlinks'; some even allow uploading (whimper!) 'images'. And, there's the immediacy and spectacle that is Twitter. Be careful! It's a jungle out there!)

Loner? are you still around? Keep a short leash on that Nemo fellow...he's still learning grammar and vocabulary; he'll sink fast if he's allowed to wander about unsupervised~!

Cheers!

News coverage in Nashville has gone from a great to bad. The demise of the Banner, lead to the Tennessean to become you pay for the advertisement pages. I stopped reading it a long time ago and I don’t see that I will go back.

I have ways watch Channel 4 news and it was a great jumping off place for young news journalist on their way to the top. Carol Marin, Robin Roberts, Pat Sajak and the Late Howell Howser, are examples of the talent that was Channel 4 news.

The trouble with the news coverage in America today is that it is run by corporations and law firms. None of which has any knowledge of what it news, only what makes money.

I’m sorry to see The City Paper go.

Captain Nemo

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 7:45

Huell Howser, nemo. And Sajak was the weatherman, not a journalist.

There is no record of a fool ever being a “weather man” or a weatherman named Paul Wade.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/25/13 at 7:49

Sorry gdia, you are correct, but they got there big breaks from WSM

TMZ is all I need.
Translation;

Pretty pictures and someone to tell me what to think is all I need.

Yogi, now that City Paper is shutting down, who will these hate mongers, ie, bfra, brrrrk, nemo, B2 and their ilk get to pick on? They will find someone, you can bet on it.

Government waste, wants to know what the good guys will do now. I think it is Comrade yogi she should be worry about. He want be able to spread his crap anywhere now. His small pond has dried up.

By: BenDover on 7/25/13 at 8:07

I don't think the Nashville Post is interactive. Hate to see the CP go. I may try out the new comment forum on Instapundit for a while. The Scene's Pith in the Wind blog would be pretty good for the lib-circle-jerk we often see here. I dunno... It's been interesting getting to know you guys. I'll miss loner, nemo, blanket, mamaG, gd, slacker, Serr8, house, brrrrk, bfra, papa, NY, ... all of the characters. Like I said, if you guys light somewhere else and want to continue the discussion I'll check loner's blog for info. when I get back from Europe.

By: serr8d on 7/25/13 at 8:08

Heh...

Just, wow. Nemo, 'Captain', you needs find (dig up, if necessary) your grade-school English teacher(s) and slap 'em for allowing you to complete their classes and 'advance'. Every level including and past Fifth Grade, I'm thinking.

By: serr8d on 7/25/13 at 8:16

BenDover! How's it hanging?

If you've an anti-Statist, Libertarian, pro-Constitution bent, then be sure to check out protein wisdom. And Insty has a comment forum now? A bit late for those, really. Twitter is gutting most blogger's comment forums; rarely do you see a decent community forum at the blog level anymore. Even Ann Althouse had to close her comments (which pretty much killed that blog AFAIC).

There's a @BenDover already on Twitter. I axed him if he were you; but he wasn't, given he was from Texas. Find me & DM if you aren't there already.

By: jvh2b on 7/25/13 at 9:03

Very sad to see the paper shutting down...have enjoyed many debates with those of you with a brain. A pity everyone is forced to go to the Tennessean now.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 9:13

It's not about the money, it's about the stuff.

Balls.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 9:15

Nimrod: Lighten up, remove the tampon from your azz, and try real hard to not be the liberal dirtball that you are.

You'll feel better about yourself, pencildick.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 9:16

Liberals=Jerry Sandusky's junk after a boy sleepover.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 9:17

Liberals=Kim Kardashian's afterbirth.

By: bfra on 7/25/13 at 9:43

jug - You & yogi should get along perfectly, according to your filthy comments, your heads stay in the same anal area.

By: bfra on 7/25/13 at 10:00

jug probably thinks his words hurts somebody! How stupid, they just show that he is no more than common trash.

By: MamaG on 7/25/13 at 10:01

I got a copy of the Scene yesterday and the only thing I read in it were the "You're So Nashville if..." parts. I used to enjoy the Scene but it's mostly ALL ads now and I quit reading it years ago.

I will miss (most) all of you too, I can't believe I left our NewYorker1 in my request for goodbyes yesterday. He's a hoot! Some come on back baby girl and say goodbye to us before it's too late! LOL

Serr8d, I see you're still sharp as a steak knife. At least you're one of the originals!

Have a great day, folks!

By: BenDover on 7/25/13 at 10:05

I have not figured out all the # @ junk on Twitter even though I've been in IT for 30 years now ser8; but I'll check you out. I followed your blog for a while I think and then after one of my internet sabbaticals I didn't pic it up again.

I'll look for you on the Twitter.

By: BenDover on 7/25/13 at 10:09

OK... ser8d ... following now... that Huma headlights photo is hysterical.

By: govskeptic on 7/25/13 at 10:15

I suspect Nashville and the metro area is populated enough that someone will
soon attempt a strictly online news source. SouthComm may even have that
in mind as we type. A Drudge Report style format, picking up selected stories
from throughout the Mid-State area, might work well, unless they just go after
the 3 or 4 Gannett papers in the area. I consider Nashville still behind both
Memphis and Knoxville with local news coverage, in spite of being the State
Capital. TCP has done a fairly good job, especially given the fact they have
reportedly never been profitable in their 13 years of existence. Even with the
liberal slant to many stories it still beats the Tennessean with their stories
always having to match and line up with the Gannett templates and agendas.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 10:49

No, dumba$$,

You won't find my name as a commercial TV weatherman. The first radar used in Nashville was put in here by the NWS (to help you read and understand, that's the National Weather Service).

I just happened to be the first one in our office to go to school and learn how to use it.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 10:53

To educate you Obama fans a little bit more, you should read the Washington Examiner's article "The Obama You Don't Know".

www.washingtonexaminer.com/obama#.UH1VDIYsEVD/

There's several chapters on the issue. Try it, you might not like it.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 10:57

I'm sorry you aren't going to have more opportunity to prove me wrong and anything I post, bfra. Maybe you could just repeat every iota of proof you've already posted in your attempt to keep me irked.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 11:07

Obama and Eric Holder are the most deceitful Washington politicians in the history of the United States.

Transparency??? Hahahahahahaha---I know even you pea-brained liberals have doubts.

Dangerous men, dangerous times.

By: BenDover on 7/25/13 at 11:51

I think that's kinda the way the Nashville Post operates gov. Maybe they'll open comments over there and just consolidate the Ops. The staff here seems more in line with the Scene politically though.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 11:52

I agree on the dangerous times, Jughead, but you left out congress. Congress allow Barry to usurp that office unquestioned when it was obvious he wasn't constitutionally eligible for that office.

And to you Obama fans, please tell me how a Kenyan citizen can be considered a natural born citizen of the USA.

By: dargent7 on 7/25/13 at 11:54

The chat board on TCP has gotten so bad, vulgar, banal, and vile, I'm glad they're going away. I've read/ posted for 6+ years and that's enough.
Compleat ass-holes like 'Jugg" get to post mysoginist garbage to the female posters for the past 6 months and they don't censure him? Ban him? Can he get any more vulgar?
We all pile on "yogi", but at least he backs up his posts w/ data, albiet from right wing nut cases, but it's something.
All "jugg" wants to do is put his 2" willie into something that moved an hour ago.
Hope he tries that in The Tennessean blog hooked into Facebook.
They'll cut him off at the knees.....or in his case, his famous "balls".

By: bfra on 7/25/13 at 11:59

d7 - Good comment & very accurate.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 12:05

Balls.

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 12:05

We all pile on "yogi", but at least he backs up his posts w/ data, albiet from right wing nut cases, but it's something.

He posts theories, unsubstantiated rumors, debunked myths, innuendo, complete misinterpretations of Constitutional law and, in some cases, outright lies.

Yeah, that's something.

By: Jughead on 7/25/13 at 12:07

Hate to disappoint you, dimwit7, but I wouldn't think of visiting that waste of liberal garbage called the Tennessean. I make it a point to never support Marxist organizations.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 12:09

You must not have read my posts, dargent7. You acknowledged I backed up my posts with data, which I acknowledge, but you friend bfra keeps calling me a liar.

So now I must ask: Who's lying, Me, or she?

By: bfra on 7/25/13 at 12:09

gdiafante - I commented in general on d7's post. Everybody is well aware or should be that yogi is nothing but a LIAR about everything.

By: gdiafante on 7/25/13 at 12:11

And most here understand completely why Yogi and Jug fear Obama and Holder. If they don't, they should listen to Obama's recent comments about the Zimmerman case.

By: bfra on 7/25/13 at 12:12

Brainless blob, read the entire sentence! Right wing nut cases are not reliable sources to anybody but brainless blobs.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 12:49

Well, bfra,

How can you call me a constant liar if your friend dargent7 says I back my "lies" with data?

By: bfra on 7/25/13 at 12:53

OMG brainless blob, do you really not understand "plain English"?

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 12:57

gdiafante,

I don't fear anyone. And it isn't Obama and Holder for you all to fear. They are the least to worry about because congress has the power of control over government.

Yeah, they're letting Barry pull all kinds of stuff of, but they can stop it anytime their little hearts desire.

And by the way, I'm still waiting for one of you to explain to me how a citizen of Kenya is constitutionally eligible for that office Barry usurped.

Prove me wrong and I'll shut up on the issue.

By: yogiman on 7/25/13 at 1:07

No, bfra,

I don't understand "plain English" according to your mental capacity. Do you mind explaining it to me?

And by the way; don't lie to me about it.
