There are lots of people in jail that don't belong there. Why the heck free murders and rapists when half the population is in jail on minor improprieties like pot and probation violation.

By: yogiman on 1/11/12 at 10:35

I've known a lot of people fake religious beliefs in my life, Captain Nemo. And a lot of them pretended to be preachers.

I've also know many big business people that show up at church every Sunday, especially in those 'religious' country towns. It persuades a lot of people to buy from them.

Your beliefs on all matters, including religious beliefs, are personally yours. Only you know when you're faking it or not..., except for those times when its pretty obvious.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/11/12 at 10:40

You are correct about that Ben. I find this such a heinous act in itself that Barbor should be arrested, but we know hat won’t happen.

By: BenDover on 1/11/12 at 10:50

I don't think arresting is appropriate in that the Gov has that power of pardon. If he was selling them, maybe though. It deserves an investigation for sure.

"Jack Welsh, the former CEO of GE, was on Piers Morgan and lauded Mitt Romney as the Second Coming.
Maybe he'll win it all. People hate Obama so much, another 4 years is too much to take.
Let the Mitt-ster give it a shot."

Two words..... Supreme Court. If you thought the Citizens United decision was bad.......

Any comments on Obama dumping Mayor Daley's brother as his Chief of Staff? Did he quit, or was he shown the door...Rahm Emanuel, now Chicago Mayor, is defending the guy...you know the guy is a loser, if Rahm is defending him...Rahm should be sharing a cell with Blago, IMO....Obama came out of that sleaze...and I trusted the guy....he played us for schmucks. No mas!

Captain Nemo said

" 'I love to fire people', says Romney. I know what he was trying to say, but his fellow GOP candidates are twisting it to suit their needs. Romney has a wild mouth, which will get him in more trouble."

Even when the context of that statement is taken into consideration, it still shows how out of touch Romney is. Just ask yourself, how many people do you personally know that have the financial ability to just drop one insurance company (primarily health insurance) and pick up another? And if you have a preexisting condition or someone in your family with special needs, forget about it.

By: brrrrk on 1/11/12 at 11:00

dargent7 said

"I think Romney will get the nomination.
Give him the Presidency.
Obama had 4 years of sheer hell and needs a break.
The country cannot get any worse.
If it does, blame Romney."

And we ALL know how good the GOP is at accepting blame...... for anything. No, if Romney gets in, it'll be Bush on steroids. Course, on the other hand, 4 year of Romney just might do enough to discredit the GOP for a hundred years.... but is it worth the damage?

By: BenDover on 1/11/12 at 11:00

Daley was supposed to help tilt the mast back to starboard before the election, Loner; but Obama's congenital list to port was insurmountable.

Gee, you think the private prison lobby has anything to do with this?

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 11:09

Good point, Brrrrk...the USSC may need a few appointments between 2012 and 2016.

Which reminds me, Obama thought that by putting two minority women on the bench would give it diversity...that's a hoot. Obama added a sixth Roman Catholic and a third Jew to the 9-member court....and he called that diversity...No Protestants, No atheists and certainly No Muslims need apply for these USSC jobs.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/11/12 at 11:13

I don’t think there will be any investigation into it Ben. Barbour is to strong with the GOP and in Mississippi they will let it slid.

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 11:17

Yeah, Obama is leaning the Ship-O-State to the port side...port wine perhaps, with some Camembert cheese....but the ship is heading towards fascist waters...AIPAC jimmied the rudder....regardless of the commands from the wheelhouse, the ship is heading hard to starboard....these state-sponsored assassinations of Persian academics are proof of our slide into militant police-state fascism.

By: yogiman on 1/11/12 at 11:24

Not to change the subject, fellow, but I just read an article about that case going up in the Georgia court.

Go to;www. thepatriotsnews.com. When it comes up, look in the left panel down to third article titled "Obama is Called to Account". Whadda ya think?

You forgot ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), the corporate-funded right wing group that's writing all the bills for the GOP. They especially have their fingerprints all over the House....

By: dargent7 on 1/11/12 at 11:39

Watch how many times Romney "blinks" when being interviewed.
I think it's a sign of "lying", but am not sure.
All he has is $200. million in the bank. Good lookin', a white man, born in the US of A.
Well, Detroit, that's kinda the USA.
My God. Give Loner $200. million and all hell will break lose.
I'm just fed up and sick of all this "Birther" shit and "Obama's an "illegal alien" crap" and he's from Indonesia born in a mud hut.
Give the Presidency to another white man and let's be done with it.

By: yogiman on 1/11/12 at 11:40

I see where the judge in Alabama dismissed the case against Obama Monday. Apparently the guy filing that case didn't "word" it too well.

"Georgia [0n My Mind] is next.

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 11:41

That is a major concern, Brrrrk....as is this:

http://maplight.org/us-congress/interest/J5100/view/all

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 11:45

I'll take that $200 million, Darge...."for the cheeldren", of course....where do I sign up for the aid?

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 11:50

Blinking, Dargent7, is associated with Flip-Floppers Disease (F-FD)..formerly known as "Waffling"...isn't that right, Doctor Dover?

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 12:06

Back to the USSC, for a moment...Is Sotomayor sitting in the "Latino seat", or in one of the "Catholic seats"....is Kagan sitting in the "GLBT seat", or in one of the "Jewish seats"? Or are those ladies occupying two of the "Female seats"? Certainly, Clarence Thomas' huge @ass occupies the "Negro seat"....that's a given.

Apparently, there is no reserved seat for a Protestant, even though they are the dominant faith in America..it's an all-Judeo-Catholic court. The current Supreme Nine are 2/3 Roman Catholic and 1/3 Jewish....that's an explosive mix...if they are devout believers in those two faiths, then they are closet theocrats....and zealous Zionists.

When these judges go to retire, these things will surely be considered when selecting their replacements.

be praising the governor.

dargent7,

If you knew anything about 'Obama' other than he's "your man" idea you might be able to see things more as they are and not what you wish they were.

Question: Where is he getting that billion bucks he's claiming to be spending on his "re-election"?

Is there gooses laying golden eggs for him? Why are foreigners throwing money over in his favor? Why does our [inferior] Supreme Court find it constitutionally acceptable? Why do they even find it okay for corporations to give a 'pot full of money' for an election.

The Supreme Court was one bad booboo our founders made.

"Gee, you think the private prison lobby has anything to do with this?"

Actually the bigger problem is in the growing municipal fiefdoms where city in the US has to have a swat team, and army of cops and their own maximum security lock-up brrrk.

I read a book a few years ago called 'The Perpetual Prisoner Machine' by Joel Dyer. He got a lot of it right but he also suffered the same dangerous blind-spot that you do brrrrk of trying to blame it all on the private sector as if absolute power in the hands of politicians and bureaucrats isn't dangerous; but contracting the construction of prisons to private firms is.

Here is a link to a PBS site that has a video of Ron Paul's speech after the results of the GOP primary (NH) were made public:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da6irSCvnZY&feature=player_embedded#!

If you listen to the video, but do not look at the messenger, the message may more easily penetrate the media-created bias that has been generated against this guy...he's homely, yes, but he is not a raving lunatic...and the GOP and MSM know it, ergo they fear his ability to go rogue, as a third-party choice.

If Ron goes rogue, all bets are off, anything could happen....maybe the nation is ready for a skinny old guy with truly fresh ideas as opposed to a good-looking younger guy with more re-packaged, stale, failed ideas.

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 1:35

Ben, you ain't kiddin'...my home town had one police car when I was in High School in the sixties...maybe four officers (if that) and the Chief.

The population of the village is about the same as it was in the sixties....though the state prison for women, in Albion, has been expanded since then. Two more state pens for men have sprung up there, since I was a teen in Albion...prisons and police are now one of the biggest local employers. The addition of the new prisons was used as the "good reason" to beef up the village's police department. The County Sheriff's Dept. (HQ in Albion) has also beefed up considerably since the 60's.

Property taxes in the village are higher proportionally today, than they were in the 60's. I know, I own a house in that village.

I just Googled : police cars Albion NY...I got this site:

http://albionpolice.com/

Here's a snippet:

ALBION POLICE DEPARTMENT
For Emergencies Dial 911

Chief of Police

106 N. Platt Street
Albion, NY 14411

Welcome!

The Albion Police Department provides municipal police services within the Village of Albion 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Village rests within the Towns of Albion and Gaines, along the Erie Canal and is the Orleans County seat.

Twelve sworn personnel comprise the department – which has a command staff of a chief, a staff sergeant, and one sergeant commanding each of three platoons.

One officer is assigned to the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task
Force full-time.

The Village’s “on-call” animal control officer and school crossing guard are civilian members of the police department.

The department has a police canine (K9) and sponsors a law enforcement exploring post.

We operate a fleet of “black and white” police vehicles.

Characteristic of many smaller departments, several of our personnel take-on multiple
roles within the department.

Well I'll be dogged, we actually agree on something!!

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 1:41

We used to have 3 cops, now we got 3 platoons of cops...we used to have one police car, now we have a "fleet" of them....and Police Dogs, yes we now got 'em...and Task Forces...it's quite alarming when I look at that police website...worse than I had thought.
Loner's hometown is a mini police-state....good thing I'm protesting there every Monday...the place needs a new paradigm.

If I disappear on a Monday...check the Albion Police Blotter.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/11/12 at 1:45

Loner did it. ;-)

By: yogiman on 1/11/12 at 1:47

Gotcha beat on that one, Loner. When my dad was elected sheriff in Sumner county in 1962 he only had 2 deputies for the whole darn county. Of course, we didn't have any criminals in Tennessee back then. Our criminals were just bootleggers.

The only thing the country provided the sheriff was an office in the basement of the courthouse.

How many deputies in that office today? I don't know if I can count that high.

By: dargent7 on 1/11/12 at 1:54

About body language... GW Bush "pursed his lips".
Gingrich looks down, before he speaks.
Romney sits there, stone faced, and blinks every 2 secomds.
They are ALL liars.
Romney might very well get the nomination and beat Obama in 2012.
Let him have it. Who'd want it?
Christ, it's only mid-January and they're all smelling blood.
What a system of government we have in place.

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 1:55

LOL on the Conan video, Brrrrk.

Nemo....."Don't taze me 'bro...I did it...don't taze me...please.... AAAIIIEEEYYYY!!!!!"

I understand that the Albion Police now have a state of the art Interrogation Room...lots of plumbing, 220 AC outlets, high-powered grilling lights, hi-tech restraints, jacuzzi-type waterboard, gas-fired hot-poker stoker, suspension & inversion rigging, nostalgic old-school flagellation devices etc. Staff of three just in the Interrogation Room...plus a dog on standby.

By: Loner on 1/11/12 at 2:04

BTW, Albion and Orleans County are GOP strongholds..the state may be blue...but in Orleans County it's flaming red....you have been warned.

A judge in that County cost my family over $100k and a whole lot of grief in a custody battle over one of my grandkids...we were victims of an actual, not virtual witch hunt...my family's Pagan beliefs were dragged into the sordid affair...it was quite horrific.

When I protest in Albion, it is on the grounds of that infamous courthouse...though I am a native of that county, I was treated like an alien being from hell....my family suffered greatly.

Speeches given after the capture of Saddam Hussein.

First, George W. Bush:

The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to OUR men and women now serving in Iraq. The operation was based on the superb work OF INTELLIGENCE ANALYSTS who found the Dictator's footprints in a vary country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by A BRAVE FIGHTING FORCE. OUR servicemen and women and OUR coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and int THEIR EFFORT to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people. THEIR work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of OUR Armed Forces and I congratulate THEM.

Then, Barack Hussein Obama on May 1, 2011:

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as I continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by MY intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it tool months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with MY national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding withing] a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that I had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at MY direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Do you need the definition of "hubris" to tell the difference between these speeches?

By: Mike Burch on 1/11/12 at 6:09

I think the biggest disappointment with President Obama has been what Loner pointed out: siding with the neocons and their warmongering. Our budget deficit would obviously be a lot lower if we had ended both wars as quickly as possible. It seems the end results will be the same no matter what we do. It makes no sense to establish a democracy in a country where you're killing women and children, because the people and the leaders they elect will not be your "friends" for long.

How can "the smartest man in the room" not see the folly of wasting trillions of dollars and god-knows-how-many-lives on both sides, all for nothing?

But other than Ron Paul, there isn't a Republican smart enough to do any better. In fact, people like Perry, Palin, Bachmann and Santorum seem intent on bombing Iran in order to "support" Israel. Never mind that Israel treats Palestinians and Bedouins like dirt, and darker-skinned Jews as well. The anger aimed at Israel gets aimed at Americans too, because we keep the Israeli Injustice War Machine oiled and running, ready to help robber barons steal land from Palestinian farm families.

Does any American politician other than Ron Paul have a functional brain cell capable of putting 2 + 2 together, and getting 4?

So far, it seems the answer is NO.

By: yogiman on 1/11/12 at 8:18

They're working on it, Mike. We'll know what answer they come up with in November. Its going to be interesting to see if we have more smarter people or more stupid idiots... (I meant people).

Nothing new here.
Hey, "Paul Wade", Kroger's has a sale on Reynolds Wrap.

By: Loner on 1/12/12 at 5:07

Yes, Mike, the Nobel Peace Prize is now a joke. I fell for that "hope & change" song & dance.....never again.

Every time an Iranian scientists or academic is murdered by US-Israeli covert operations, we slip a little bit lower into the quicksand of fascism....soon it will be too late to pull ourselves out of this murderous holy war, whose goal is to make the world safe for apartheid Zionism in Palestine...a thoroughly less than noble goal.

We are on the wrong side of history, once again....Holy Wars Suck.

By: Loner on 1/12/12 at 5:18

Yeah, Darge, no new Up for Debate board....maybe one will pop up later?

We worked the assigned topic to death...now what?
