Up for Debate: A new pope

How do you feel about the selection of Pope Francis, the first non-European pontiff? Is it a wise decision? Is he a good or bad choice?

You're right, gdiafante,

Our founders did not define "natural born citizen" when they worded the Constitution. Look up the defining of the FIRST CONGRESS and the re-wording of the THIRD CONGRESS.

I know, that was back in the 1700s; so I hope you can read that far back.

By: bfra on 3/14/13 at 9:17

Have never found anyone that knows yogi that has anything good to say about him. They all think he is crazy & avoids him completely. Since he can't bug his neighbors, he comes on here with a captive group.

The new Pope's maiden name was Bergoglio....sounds like a great name for a new pizza franchise: Bergoglio's Pizza....The Heavenly Pie.

May have to register that tradename and web ID....then re-sell it to a developer...Buy low....Sell high....kerching.

Any feedback on that?

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 9:21

I'm thinking.. knock-off sports car Loner..

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 9:23

My left page margin has an ad with the new Pope in white garments, asking if we approve...is that where the NCP editors got the idea for this topic of the day?
Anybody else have that ad on their screen?

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 9:24

See the new ''Bergoglio'' 0 - 60.. faster than the ''Higgs boson''

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/14/13 at 9:25

Yep, the ad is on my screen.

What about Bergolio's Water Park and Bocci Ball. Free baptism and a Hail Mary punchcard with a summer membership.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 9:25

I'm seeing a chick wearing a sweat shirt Loner

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/14/13 at 9:26

Because you know the Catholics like young boys.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 9:28

I'm now seeing ''bad credit? not a problem.
Damn ..they've scoped me out.

Under the rubric of Southern Discomfort:

Mississippi passes 'anti-Bloomberg bill,' banning local limits on portion sizes and requirements to post calorie counts....
The bill was authored by state Sen. Tony Smith, a Republican who owns the Stonewall’s BBQ chain, who said government shouldn't tell people what they cannot eat.

Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/passes-anti-bloomberg-bill-bans-limits-portions-posting-calorie-counts-article-1.1286804#ixzz2NW2yI8tm

That's right, Bubba, stuff that big gut and then ask the taxpayers in the donor states to pay for your triple bypass caused by your obesity...Mississippi's slack-jawed residents are rated as the most obese in the USA....fat, dumb and happy...that's the GOP's Southern base.

Mississippi voters seem to have a problem with recognizing conflicts of interest in their lawmakers...this Tony Smith guy is quite the hustler....he could go far in the Tea-bagged GOP.

Loner, the bottom line is that the government can't legislate eating habits. NY's mayor or gov., can ban a 32 ounce big drink or a 64 ounce big drink, but who's to stop people from getting 4 8 ounce drinks and drinking them (32 ounce) or 8 - 8 ounce drinks and drinking them (64 ounce)? I mean, the logic of banning the sale of a 64 or 32 ounce drink is over kill and ridiculous.

Actually mandatory health education would seem more logical to me. But then I'm not the gov. or mayor. So who cares what I think is logical.

Regarding the Pope. I just hope the Catholic Church can serve the people who believe and care about it. I wish the Pope all the best and the Church. My mom was Catholic (converted).

By: yogiman on 3/14/13 at 9:35

It's all in one's mind, B2. And with your weak mind over your ignorance of the 'natural born citizen' status required to become President of the USA, I understand how weak yours is.

I have it also, but think it's ignorant and will not respond. It is so crass to do that. Of course, the CP would.

As a non-catholic, I still find the selection of a new Pope to be of intrigue. Francis I seems to be a humble man, much as JPII was. I pray he will have sway over the 1.2 Billion of his faith to lead them to a great revival among them.

I appreciate those catholics who recognize Jesus Christ as the Savior and path to salvation - true Christians. For those catholics who participate in the rituals of the church in the guise of salvation, I pity them come their day of reckoning. Also, for those who would ridicule Christians and deny Christ as their Savior, pity doesn't even come close to what I have for them. Nice of all you fine folks to keep things on-topic. Perhaps one day the CP will devote the QotD forum to What do you think of the people who generally post on the QotD forum?

PKVol, my sentiments exactly. You said it so eloquently. God bless us all.

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 9:41

LOL, Slack....the all-new Ferrari Bergoglio Barchetta....for the Rasputin crowd.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 9:43

Sidney.. I'm a ''Slackerterain'' we only tithe 5%.
We are recruiting, no missionary work required.
Dancing & general debauchery allowed.

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 9:51

Slack, the chick with the "meh..." T-shirt? She appears here occasionally too...the Pope ad disappeared...for now anyway...a Suzuki ad replaced it...they know who we are....we can run...we can't hide.

Actually, Bud, I agree...government should butt out of the business of big-brother, big-butted, buffoonery and Aunt Nellie nanny-state antics....let them eat cake....life is short, stuff yer pie-hole, if that is thy desire....so be it.

By: gdiafante on 3/14/13 at 9:51

Yogi, do you even understand what precedent law means? Do me a favor, look it up instead of browsing conspiracy websites. You may actually learn something.

yeah right...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/14/13 at 9:54

The caretaker hasn't shown up yet to change yogi's diaper.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/14/13 at 9:56

g, his "'puter" doesn't pull up anything but conspiracy websites and chain emails. He doesn't know how to use it for anything else.

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 9:59

"Slackerterians"? Sounds like the Church of the Sub-genius...developing slack is their earthly mission...I have attended their "conclaves"....cutting edge theology:

That's a link to their "Hour of Slack" radio ministry....enjoy...the Founder, Rev. Stang and I are on a first-name basis...couple of old hippies....still rockin' in the free world....

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 10:13

News Flash:

They killed the gunman.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 10:15

Loner.. in the year of MMII .. a great schism occurred between the Slackerterians & COTSG.
It involved the wearing of robes by our very ''High'' Priests.

By: yogiman on 3/14/13 at 10:17

I have learned something, gdiafante. Apparent you and your NCP buddies haven't.

I've learned congress let a man usurp the Oval Office who isn't a natural born citizen eligible for the Oval office without question. Which tells me they are "in the game" with him.

As I've posted before, I don't feel sorry for you and your fellow acceptors on the issue; but I do feel sorry for your children and your heirs down the line in what you and your fellow posters are so willing for them to have: A dictator in a communist nation.

As I've said before, I'm still waiting for evidence on Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama to prove to me he's a natural born citizen, which he can't be with a British subject father. I want evidence, gdiafante, not just "I think so" BS.

The fact that congress let this happen should wake you up, gdiafante.

By the way, wanna hear a good song? It's titled as the original song "Obamaville".

Gotta go get something done. Have fun while I'm gone and I'll put you back in your misery when I get back.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 10:19

Drive carelessly yogi..

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 10:27

I was kidding yogi..

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 10:28

Or was I?

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 10:33

I have heard the legend, Slack...the so-called, "Jism Schism"...the bone of contention was the underwear issue....the Subgenius Priests insisted on TSF....Total Scrotal Freedom...the Slackerterians insisted that their holymen must "Girth their loins", in order to achieve "slack"....stiff resistance to change and naked vanity played a role...in spite of their fundamental disagreement on the vital TSF issue, members of each sect still respect each others dogma, whenever they step in it...but the TSF issue still separates the two creeds....they are like two nuts in a single nutsack.

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 10:40

Watch out for Kenyan deer when you go around Usurpers Corner, Yogi...BHO imported whole herds of African Muslim White-tails...to bedevil the American infidel motorists....the deer go Jihad when they see a cracker behind the wheel...suicidal collision is their Modus Operandi....strapping a big crucifix to your front bumper can help...that and holy water in the cooling system....watch for eyeballs in the dark.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 10:44

Loner.. even with the issues.. the Sub-genius.. still attend the annual Slackerterian's picnic on the ground.

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 10:45

Yes, Slack they all seem to get a bong just fine.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 10:47

lol..gotta go.. see you later

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 10:49

Slack...we may have met each other at an X-Days gathering? I wear my monk's robes (TSF) for the get-together...the Sub-genius refer to me as, "God the Father-in-law"...does that ring your bell?

By: brrrrk on 3/14/13 at 11:01

The first thing that occurred to me when I heard the name that the new Pope had selected for himself was...... "I can't believe he named himself after a talking mule!!" :-)

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 11:04

Another cruise ship nightmare is unfolding...toilets backed up in the dark, as the Carnival Dream, lost power at sea....food borne illnesses and overflowing toilets....and power outages all seem to be part of the strange allure of these Love Boat wannabes...could be worse, it could have run aground and sank....First Prize: A Carnival Cruise...Second Prize: Two Carnival cruises.....Third Prize: Three Carnival cruises....

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 11:11

Honeymoon period is over Frankie boy...let the character assassination begin:

FOX News will investigate: "Francis or Frances? Assisi or a sissy? What is the white-robed one trying to tell us with this name selection? Is the new Pope GLBT-friendly? Is the liturgical light of the church light in the loafers...or ruby red slippers?....we'll find out....right after this...."

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 11:16

Maybe we can pitch in and buy Yogi a ticket for a Carnival Cruise?

By: brrrrk on 3/14/13 at 11:37

Loner said

"Maybe we can pitch in and buy Yogi a ticket for a Carnival Cruise?"

No Loner, those poor souls on those Carnival Cruise ships have suffered enough.... having them putting up with the Yogster as well is just too much to ask. Think of the children!!!

re: BudLite...10:40am comment..."I pray he will sway over the 1.2 billion Catholics...
To where?
90% of the Catholic Church in America is vanquished.
The rampant pedophile scandal and coverup destroyed any power the church, though marginalized, even had. The Bishops transferred the pedophiles to other congregations.
The 275 Cardinals turned a blind-eye.
We eat meat on Fridays, don't attend Mass on Saturdays, don't "cross" ourselves before eating at public restaurants, use birth control, have abortion on demand, and believe having sex is for recreation. Not procreation.
This Pope, as well as the last one, are crackers.
At least Penn State cleaned house, from top to bottom, with the Sandusky scandal.
Everyone there got fired, arrested, or died. Statues were taken down.
The Catholic Church will never say, "We're sorry"..."We were wrong".

By: Captain Nemo on 3/14/13 at 11:51

Raspy old boy, I have named you many times. Why would I expect you to acknowledge it today?

With one exception.... at least the Catholic Church now recognizes science.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/14/13 at 12:12

Raspy old boy, do you remember Franky W?

By: Captain Nemo on 3/14/13 at 12:15

The Catholic Church, says it is alright to think about UFO. Does that make you feel better yogi?

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 12:28

I hear you, Darge... the Catholics have come close to saying, "Sorry.", about the Inquisition and the burnings at the stake....give them a few more millennia....they'll get religion and 'fess up....who knows, they might even admit that liberating the Holy Land was a dumb idea, if given enough time.....and given tens of millennia more, they might even publicly apologize for burning the Aztec Codices.

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 12:33

Coach Sandusky must be settling into the prison rhythm by now...probably snapping the bar of soap to a would-be QB in the shower room....HUT ONE...HUT TWO...

By: dargent7 on 3/14/13 at 12:41

The only people the Catholic Church attracks is 'sheep" from Brazil, Mexico, Uragray, Peru, Argentina.
All Third World.
No Catholic I know of isn't on birth control or favors abortion "on demand".
This new Pope won't ever proclimate that "birth control is sanctioned by the Church...'Abortion, too".

By: bfra on 3/14/13 at 12:53

yogi has just gone to cram his stupid little book in more peoples face. They totally detest it so maybe one will just ram his fist right in yogi's face. He would deserve it.

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 12:55

Catholic walks into a bar.. demands an abortion..
Bartender shoots him..

By: slacker on 3/14/13 at 1:00

''Sorry about all that hanky-panky..

By: Loner on 3/14/13 at 1:09

So, the new Pope is 76 years old and is working with one lung....maybe they should not dismiss the conclave until after the initial test ride is over...the excitement might finish the old man off....could be a short tenure....the Pope Emeritus might have to fill in for Francis.
