Up for Debate: Obama strikes back

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 12:52am

For the second of three presidential debates, Obama seemed livelier than the first, but was it enough to "win" over Romney? What points do you think each candidate scored on, and what were the weaker moments for each?

As predicted, we saw a load of red-colored BS and a load of Blue-colored BS on display last night. They should rename these "debates"..."Battling Bullshitters", would be more apt.

Both of these guys are on the take to the special interests....our opinions are irrelevant....we live in solidly colored states, deep red and deep blue, therefore our votes are essentially irrelevant. A tiny portion of the electorate will make the decision for all of us.

Got anything that's not depressing as hell this morning, Loner?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/17/12 at 8:15

Yeah, the reality check isn't so pretty.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 8:20

Yes, I do, Ummm.

That should provide some inspiration...some hope.....some guidance.

By: yogiman on 10/17/12 at 8:29

You must have had a different English teacher than I, Ummm. I like mine better. I was taught it's how a sentence is worded that determines if the words used are singular or pluralistic.

But what the heck, if no one ever made a error in their writings, we wouldn't need to edit them, wood we?

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 8:31

Did you folks get a load of the selected audience? Talk about politically correct....there was a token example there from every political constituency, or so it seemed.

The only thing missing was a do-rag-wearing, white-haired, American patriot who believes that Holy Wars Suck....nobody was there to ask Bishop Romney why he believes that Israeli women have a right to choose, but American women do not...why the state of Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state, but the Israeli fetus has no right to life....why the US supports the state-sponsored abortion mills in Israel.

Anyone who would dare to pose such questions would be given a super-wedgie and promptly air-walked out of the building? Such talk is strictly forbidden.

By: bfra on 10/17/12 at 8:33

For the voters dumb enough to vote for Bush the second time around, should recognize their mistake and not repeat it in this election. However, from the few on this board rah rahing for Romney, that doesn't seem to be happening.

By: govskeptic on 10/17/12 at 8:34

What you posted is the last of a broad statement the President was making
that morning. The real point is last night he was falsely hinting that he
called the attack the next morning a terror attack, which he absolutely didn't
for over 2 weeks. Crowley's backing him up was incorrect as well, which
she stated she was wrong-too late of course. More on this Monday.
I do give the President credit for realizing in last night's performance that
neither Axelrod nor Michelle would run out on the stage and same him
as he apparently expected in the first debate. He was also again successful
in speaking about 4 minute more than Romney. The Biden persona in
combative stage behavior will have to be judged by others.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/17/12 at 8:40

gov, you're scraping the bottom if all you can do is complain about semantics. You're sounding like a sore loser.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/17/12 at 8:43

Well, it didn't take long for this to appear.

By: slacker on 10/17/12 at 8:44

Concerning Benghazi.. Hillary threw herself under the bus, the bus was totaled.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 8:45

Bfra, most Republicans believe that electing any white guy is a better choice than re-electing the black guy....there is not a whole lot more to it than that, IMO. The GOP faithful have been the sorest of sore losers...they still chafe from 2008....this borders on sedition.

If BHO gets re-elected, one of those disgruntled gunners may try to snuff the POTUS....The Israelis certainly will not tolerate four more years of this reluctance to expand the holy war....feeling another "existential threat", they may recruit our next home-grown assassin...they are experts in the art of assassination and deception...with an "ally" like that, who needs enemies?

If there is a God, may he protect our president and his family.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 8:59

Remember, Joe Biden voted to invade Iraq...if he were to replace BHO, the holy war would surely expand.

I was going to provide a link to the Maplight.org page that lists the recipients of Israel lobby cash...but the site may be experiencing heavy volumes...and/or it is under cyber-attack...I just get a 503 error page when I click on this URL:

The Israelis invented Stuxnet...they could easily jam Maplight's embarrassing page. I have never seen a 503 error on that page before...something is fishy. Have the friends of Israel hacked this US site?

If the Mossad was to engineer a successful assassination of the POTUS, I dare say that the Republicans would side with the Israelis....a swift cover-up would ensue; followed by major distractions.....another whitewash. like the Warren Commission....or the investigation into the USS Liberty incident.

Congress is rotten to the core....anything is possible with those creeps.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 9:01

Good one, Slack.....the bus is now junk, but Hillary waves to the crowd...she's OK....just a little grease-stained.

By: Ummm... on 10/17/12 at 9:02

Funny, Loner- the most interesting religious guy in the world.

(Btw- is that a picture of you, or is it one of Rasputin slumming?)

And also, regarding your 9:45 post, amen brother, amen.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 9:06

Bn, what in the Django is going on with that link which you provided in your 9:43 post?
Is the site claiming that we have "bugs" in our software? Or did we just get bugged?
I hope that my PC is not going to need another E-nema.

By: Ummm... on 10/17/12 at 9:10

Loner, regarding Biden as I stated previously 2003 was a different environment- jingoistic nationalism leftover from 9/11 and no memory of two recent costly wars. In his debate Biden said, "the last thing we need is another war." I know you're skeptical of anything uttered by any politician, but I'm inclined to give Joe the benefit of the doubt on this. As Kinsley said, "a gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth," and old Joe is definitely a truth-telling machine.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/17/12 at 9:13

Which one, Loner? I can see them on my end.... ;(

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/17/12 at 9:15

bindersfullofwomen.com? It's a site showing Romney's record when it comes to hiring women and how his policies will affect women's healthcare.

By: yogiman on 10/17/12 at 9:21

The game ain't over yet, B2. Hopefully, you young people will learn what a communist is and where Obama intends to take us.

Points to think about: His grandparents were communists, their communist friend [Frank Marshall Davis] in Hawaii was Barry's mentor on communism, his tutor at Harvard was communist, his closest friends are communists, his principal creditors are communists. If he has been with communists all of his life, don't you think he might also be a communist?

There's a movie, 2016, everyone should see before they vote for Obama. It may wake you up. There's also a CD out on "Dreams from My Real Father". It's worth looking at, also.

But if you want to live in a communist USSA, vote for the man going by the name Barack Obama.

I prefer to stay in the USA.

By: gdiafante on 10/17/12 at 9:22

Of course Hilary took the blame, she's expendable. If Obama loses, she's obviously out. If he wins, I doubt she keeps the job, she'll likely step down. It does her no harm either way.

Now excuse me, I have a binder of women I need to go through...

Brother Ummm, alas, the image is that of the Lone One....the shot was taken inside a 19th-century cedar-wood gazebo, located on the grounds of the Idlewilde Inn, a magnificent mansion and estate grounds in Watkins Glen, NY., during the Vintage Car Race Weekend, 2012.

The champagne is NY state, Pleasant Valley, Millennium Brut....as a spoof, I was mocking out the Dos Equis guy. I made a pitch for the NY bubbly, as the shot was taken.....the parody effect came through loud & clear...my pastor's wife took the image off FB and went to Zipmeme ...she added the UU text.....I was quite flattered, of course.

Here's the website for the Idlewilde:

Here's the bubbly:

I don't always recommend accommodations and champagne, but when I do, I prefer to recommend the Idlewilde Inn and Millennium Brut....stay thirsty, my friends.

By: gdiafante on 10/17/12 at 9:26

Yeah I agree with Ummm...pretty much everyone was beating the war drum in 2003. A decade later, we're beaten...worn out by the costs of two prolonged debacles, one of which we still can't get out of too soon for my taste.

By: pswindle on 10/17/12 at 9:26

Mitt is sissy and whinny. He thinks that if he talks over President Obama , he's winning. He get his facts wrong and Candy had to come to President Obama's aide and explain to the hard-headed out of touchbigot that he was wrong. He still wanted to argue.

By: bfra on 10/17/12 at 9:26

By: yogiman on 10/17/12 at 9:26

Glad you mentioned if Obama gets re-elected a Republican dingo might "eliminate" him, Loner.

Have you read where two people have already issued a threat against Romney if he wins?

They apparently don't want to lose their handouts.

By: bfra on 10/17/12 at 9:31

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 9:31

Bn. I went to :

I got some kind of "Django" sales pitch...or something like that...it intimated that my system was vulnerable to E-bugs.

When I heard the line, "binders full of women", I immediately assumed Mitt was talking about bondage, bindings and binders.....BAH-DAH-BOOM.

By: yogiman on 10/17/12 at 9:33

You have a choice in this election if we aren't under martial law by them. If you want to live in the USA, you had better vote for Romney [like him or not]. But if you want to live in the USSA, vote for Obama. You'll learn fast what nation you're in in short order.

I wonder if Hillary is tired of the game and ready to retire. She's not as sparky as she once was.

''Mittens'' should ease up on the Jingoism. Most everyone is sick of the scattered mini-wars the country is involved in. Loner it seems to me that last week, Bibi backed off his spy vs spy, Mad magazine bomb. Whats gives?

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 9:45

Let us hope that Mr. Biden has learned from his mistakes...but I would not count on it. Biden, like any professional zealot, is capable of self-bullshitization. These federal politicians could rationalize anything from assassination to sedition....it all depends on their donor base...for US politicians, situational ethics are the only ethics.

PM Netanyahu went to the UN recently and announced that Iran will have crossed his "red line" by next spring or summer.....after that, Israel may be "forced" to strike in "self-defense"....he has also called for sudden and early elections...he has no serious competition for the job and is expected to be re-elected...a strong re-election victory will strengthen the PM's his hand, according to the pundits.

By: slacker on 10/17/12 at 9:48

Not to worry about internet viruses.. Sandra Fluke has a commitment from Obama, that the govt. will supply free keyboard condoms to all female internet users.

By: yogiman on 10/17/12 at 9:49

It's sad we have reached this frame of this nation. I read a post last night worth reading; at least to me. Possibly not to you if you're "one of them".

Now that Bibi has announced his intention to delay his attack on Iran, the world relaxes a bit and looks the other way...meanwhile the IDF is busy assassinating terror suspects in Gaza, using US technology, of course....the Israelis claim to share core values with Americans, but I don't think that's entirely true...in America, we give the terror suspects a fair trial, we do not routinely use our armed forces to assassinate suspects....or do we?

Are those US drone strikes on suspected Jihadists in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen etc. the moral equivalent of what the Israelis have been doing for decades? Have we Americans abandoned our traditional values and assumed Israeli values? It would appear so.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 10:05

They should market a condom with Fluke's likeness on the tip?

If Fluke is entitled to contraception, are dirty old men entitled to ED remedies?

Speaking of dysfunction...I certainly hope that Hillary exits stage left, if Obama gets re-elected....I don't like political dynasties...Clinton family included.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 10:09

If the military brass thought that waterboarding Bin Laden's chauffeur would provide valuable information, then doesn't it follow that waterboarding Bin Laden himself would have yielded all kinds of extremely useful information? The cowardly bastard would have sung like a canary...ratting out on all his buddies.

Taking Bid Laden alive would have been much more productive and efficacious than blowing his brains out. like they did.

By: slacker on 10/17/12 at 10:14

Loner, Hillary will take a break either way it goes. She's completed her bucket list of visiting every town on planet earth. Who knew.. there was that many different colored pant suits.

By: Loner on 10/17/12 at 10:21

I'm sure that Bill will be happy to have Hillary back in the house....Bill's been closely and heavily monitored since "The BJ".....he probably hasn't gotten a lot recently....she'll be looking good to his horny eyes....a little make-up, some Victoria's Secret lingerie, some incense...lots of Millenium Brut...and she'll be looking fine.

By: yogiman on 10/17/12 at 10:23

With all due respect, I must agree and disagree with you.

In your 0907 post you made the statement both of 'these guys' are on the take to the special interests and our opinions are irrelevant. I agree, but it isn't just "those" guys. It's everyone in DC politics and many in the state's levels. At the national level when they go in office they start their re-election campaign on day one.

Like the President, there should be term limits on Congress and the SCOTUS, also. That's one of the mistakes our founders made.

But on your 0945 comment about "most Republicans believe that electing any white guy is a better choice than re-electing the black guy..." You couldn't be more wrong.

Electing anyone who is Constitutionally eligible is a better choice than re-electing Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama. And it isn't because he is black, it's because he isn't Constitutionally eligible and he's a communist.

As I have posted since it was learned Obama was running for that office, I have only questioned his Constitutional eligibility. I have never mentioned race as a point. Only you posters on this site have mentioned race. But you could only use race as your decision to vote for him in 2008 because he refused to identify himself; and you accepted him. Why, when you didn't know anything about him? So keep that race issue in your hind pocket.

It seems I have studied Obama more than you guys and you had better wake up unless you're communist friends of his.
