Up for Debate: Pope's remarks on gays

Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 12:45am

Speaking about homosexuals, Pope Francis said recently, "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" What is your reaction to hearing that from the pope?

C'mon jughead, throw down some of your disgusting filth about the Holy Father. The sooner you start burning in hell the better...

That's exactly the right words and thoughts from the Pope, as it should be from
all Christians and others of faith and good will. How could there be any feelings
otherwise? Of course, there are many who will state he should have gone further,
but those same groups would never be satisfied with anything coming from the
Pope or Vatican.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 7:27

I think the Pope's comment was completely appropriate. I think Pope Francis will be a good pope.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 7:37

It is in my opinion that with his words a new day of understanding will arise. I have said a similar word has the Pope about gay marriage. Who am I to say who can love someone and who can not?

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 7:40

You forget that there will be some that will say he has gone too far, gov.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 7:42

That's true, Nemo. Good morning. :)

Pope Francis says atheists can be good

Just do good, and we'll find a meeting point, says Francis in marked departure from Benedict's line on non-Catholics

Moonglow1:speaking of Christianity, the Pope announced " who am I to pass judgment on gays..." oh oh now what are the Repub nuts going to do

You left out part of the quote: he said "pass judgment on gay priests". He did not refer to gays in general. And of course he would say that. He is not the "judge"; God is the judge. He probably didn't say that the people are not the problem, the sin is the problem.

And the Repub nuts are not the only ones. I know some Democrats who are relatively liberal who do not agree with the Obamagaymovement.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 7:57

Good morning Blanket.

As you can see that our resident holy cow has already passed her judgment

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:00

Yep, no surprise there. I have a lot of respect for the new pope. I think he will shake up the Catholic church and make changes for the better.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:02

"Inconsistency on the part of pastors and the faithful between what they say and what they do, between word and manner of life, is undermining the Church's credibility," the pontiff said in his homily.

"Those who listen to us and observe us must be able to see in our actions what they hear from our lips, and so give glory to God!"

People like Jug, yogi and bud should consider that quote seriously.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 8:03

I think your first speeling (sic) was correct, Blanket.

By: Jughead on 7/30/13 at 8:06

Queerios are doing another happy dance this morning. Then, they will have sex with at least 11 men and a few animals.

We're all gaywads now!!!!

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 8:08

The flea’s manly bulge is so small that bacteria laugh.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:08

And Jug claims to be a Christian.

By: Jughead on 7/30/13 at 8:12

Did you know that gay men average over 200 partners per year? They contract AIDs 5X more than heterosexuals?

And, you liberal freaktards want to french kiss these disease-ridden, promiscuous tramps?

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 8:13

The flea is no more Christian that bud.

By: Jughead on 7/30/13 at 8:14

Liberals promote any cause that is depraved or results in getting something for free.

Liberals=Liberace butt.

By: Jughead on 7/30/13 at 8:16

You libs can ride the gaywagon all day, but the fact is that gays are hated in black culture and executed in many countries.

I don't really give a damn, I just want the freaks to stay the hell off of my front lawn. Have your butt babies in private.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:16

Nemo, you know what they say about homophobes......

By: Jughead on 7/30/13 at 8:18

Gotta go to work, my pupils. Don't worry--you can reread my posts in amazement and discuss them amongst yourselves.

Love puddles.

The Pope also endorses giving to the poor.

Did you know that freaks that call themselves Jugheads are more likely to be queer.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:19

The Pope's comments hopefully will end some of the violence against gays.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 8:28

I am curious about that, Blanket. I wonder how the employees feel about that.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:29

Well, that's one way to shake up the church.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:30

At least the Pope sets an example.

Churches of all faiths have been helping the poor for ages. But the new definition of "Poverty" is one that needs to be addressed. The gov-ment says that poverty is a family of 4 with 2 cars, a couple of big screens and so on. I am amazed at how many people I speak with who are on section 8 and only pay $50 a month for rent. Yet they have a $1500 t.v. as big as a drive in theater screen in their living room. Sounds like we need to teach financial peace by Dave Ramsey to the poor.

I actually met one young woman on section 8 who has graduated from the Dave Ramsey program. She is saving to buy her own home, has paid off her car and is aiming for a home outside the gates of the section 8 housing model. She is a rare individual.

And Blanket, there are some "poor folks" who scam every system they can. They are the ones who give "charity" a bad name. My family has given and given and given. I'm all "gived up" in both funds and attitude. But I keep trying to understand there are those worse off than I am, so we dig deeper and try harder.

The pope said:
ROME — For generations, homosexuality has largely been a taboo topic for the Vatican, ignored altogether or treated as “an intrinsic moral evil,” in the words of the previous pope.
The Lede: Video of the Pope’s ‘Gay Lobby’ Remarks (July 29, 2013)

In that context, brief remarks by Pope Francis suggesting that he would not judge priests for their sexual orientation, made aboard the papal airplane on the way back from his first foreign trip, to Brazil, resonated through the church. Never veering from church doctrine opposing homosexuality, Francis did strike a more compassionate tone than that of his predecessors, some of whom had largely avoided even saying the more colloquial “gay.”

“If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Francis told reporters, speaking in Italian but using the English word “gay.”

Note Blanket, he said "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord" and in the preceding paragraph he said he "would not judge priests for their sexual orientation", so what does that mean?

Sounds kind of like he might think that a person needs forgiveness. But at least he's opening the door for people to come to Christ under any circumstances.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 8:59

But it's not up to you to judge, is it bud?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:01

bud, sounds like you're trying to change the context of the Pope's message to fit your viewpoint.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:02

What is your take of him washing the feet of Muslims? Would you do that?

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 9:03

The distorted world according to sid.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:04

Indeed. She can't accept his message so she has to twist or distort it to fit her worldview. Which is very narrow.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:06

The Pope gives to the poor unconditionally. He didn't set up parameters in his comments about gays, atheists and Muslims. And it wants to protect the Amazon rainforest. Sounds liberal to me.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:07

I didn't hear anything about the Pope wanting people to read Dave Ramsey before he helps them out.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 9:08

Just think there are holy cows in Indian and not one of them is a sid.

By: gdiafante on 7/30/13 at 9:12

No kidding. I mean you can get a freaking 60" TV for half that now. What a bunch of dolts. And, for the record, anyone on the government roll that has color TV is a moocher.

I'm fine with them if they have an old tube TV that is black and white...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:13

Good mornin', g.

:)

By: Captain Nemo on 7/30/13 at 9:13

People like bud have a vision of God and the world as they see fit. If they think it, then it is the will of God and nothing will change that view.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:15

The point in giving is to be selfless - not to judge others as to whether or not you think they are suffering enough to deserve help.

I don’t think these people should have nice things. They should be miserable so I can compare my life as being better.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/30/13 at 9:21

It's people like Jug and bud with their "Church Lady" attitude that drive people away from religion.

Exactly, Nemo.

It is better to be a sinner, because there is hope for the sinner.
