Up for Debate: Pre-debating the VP debate

Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 1:23am

What do you expect from the vice presidential debate Thursday night? What might be the main talking points? What might be the weaknesses of each candidate? Who will "win"?

Gd is going over to the dark side? He challenged Obama to answer his questions; I'll sit in that empty seat and respond.

Gd wrote:
To play devil's advocate, if he (Obama) can't think on his feet in something as arcane as a Presidential debate, what happens when the sh!t hits the fan? Should we now assume that his response to world and domestic crises has been largely the work of his cabinet/advisors, not him?

Should what was once considered silent, patient deliberation now be considered a lack of resolute response?

I think they're legitimate questions. To Obama, I would say prove me wrong.

OK, one at a time: "If he (Obama) can't think on his feet in something as arcane as a Presidential debate, what happens when the sh!t hits the fan? "

Well, the fecal material has struck the rotor blades on more than one occasion since 2008...not massive amounts of excrement, but any flying fecal material is unacceptable. The president cannot always stop the feces from occurring, after all, "shit happens". ..but in the case of the Israeli PM's attempt to throw more feces into the whirling blades of the Middle East, President Obama has done a fairly good job of restraining the guy.

Next question: "Should we now assume that his response to world and domestic crises has been largely the work of his cabinet/advisors, not him?"

Of course not. When the time came for a presidential decision on whether to go in and kill Osama Bin Laden, the POTUS made the call...he took the political risks...he assumed the moral responsibility....he accepted responsibility for the success or failure of a very dangerous mission. His advisers advised him, but Obama made the decision and it was a gutsy one....he has proven his presidential qualities.

Final question: "Should what was once considered silent, patient deliberation now be considered a lack of resolute response?"

Of course not. The president looked pensive and thoughtful during the debate; he did not look like a hopped-up hot-head....Bishop Romney did. Some prefer a "shoot fist, ask questions later" quality in the POTUS...I prefer a cooler head in the White House.

Written by Loner: The SCOTUS is already tilting to the right....do we want the list to starboard to increase? If you want to restore balance in the SCOTUS, vote Obama.

Excuse me Loner, but didn't Obama get to put the last two people on the SCOTUS? The following is information for you to absorb:
President Barack Obama has made two successful appointments to the Supreme Court of the United States. The first was that of Judge Sonia Sotomayor[1] to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Associate Justice David H. Souter.[2] Sotomayor was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 6, 2009, by a vote of 68–31. The second appointment was that of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to replace John Paul Stevens. Kagan was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 5, 2010, 63–37. Speculation has also focused on the potential retirement of 79-year-old Ruth Bader Ginsburg,[3][4] who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

So if these two people vote the way Obama wants them to vote, or the way you want them to vote, that leaves only 5 people to vote and usually some of those 5 vote the way you want them to. So again, if your MAN for PRESIDENT put on people who sort of don't vote the way you want them to, it's on him. So vote him out.

He's already lost anyway.

By: Loner on 10/11/12 at 8:29

Bud...the US Supreme Court consists of 9 justices, not 5, not 7.....it's nine (9).

You did not site your source....of course. Shabby.

Another draw? They have not debated yet, or did I miss one? Oh, the Presidential debate was a draw? You have lost your mind. Well okay, no mind to loose. Everybody knows, including President Obama, he lost. He even admitted to losing.
All Mr. Ryan needs to do is stick with the facts, he wins.
It is amazing to me how you liberal's still cling to the propaganda that is put out by your side.
If Obama wins again, America is the Loser, you have to know this for a fact. Look at how he is leading us into WWIII in the middle east. Look at the record unemployment. Look at the facts, he is destroying our country.
Even Billionaire Democrate Steve Wynn will not invest money until Obama is gone.
Tell me, do you still have HOPE? That one day America will be just like Europe?

Good post Parnell, but these void of intellectual capability posters cannot comprehend your comments or your question. They don't "get it". BUT we do and Yes, Obama is out of there!

Loner, that's more information than she can absorb.

And he took the credit on killing bin Laden, Loner. Heck, I thought he was the one that went in and made those shots.

I also wondered why he "waited" so long after bin Laden was found and identified. Could it possibly have been a political reason perhaps? I'd say likely.

I've also wondered why after taking credit, he didn't allow bin Laden's body to be seen to identify him. Can we be sure bin Laden was the man in that bag? And why did he honor such a anti-American criminal to be dropped to the bottom of the ocean.

And I've further wondered why those SEALS were killed so soon after bin Laden. Yeah, an airplane crash. Really?

They may still have HOPE, parnell3rd, but they still don't have any sense by voting for someone whom they still don't know.

And I see where, because of the Obamacare system, the majority of small business employers will cut their employees work time to less that 30 hours per week. I guess that will create more jobs though, to cover the hours.

Is the US becoming a part time employment nation?

Yogi, they are lowering people to less than 30 hours so they do not have to provide insurance coverage for them. These ya-hoos on this post don't get it. Obama is struggling -- sort of like a blind man groping the darkness for a wall to lean against!

He's even trying to get Big Bird involved and Sesame Street told him to cease and desist. BIG BIRD? Does he think that 4 year olds can pass for voters? Probably, especially if they don't have to present a driver's license. Maybe they can say they are midgets -- or height challenged -- or whatever term is PC at this moment in time.

Go Romney! Go Ryan! Go straight to the White House. Go Obama! Go Biden! Go straight back to your respective homes and get a job!

By: Loner on 10/11/12 at 8:35

Loner, I respectfully suggest that brainedlight's drivel be ignored like that of any other troll. Asking someone who doesn't even know how many justices sit on the USSC to use quotation marks or to cite sources is like trying to teach a wharf rat to do calculus.

By: budlight on 10/11/12 at 8:43

Thanks for correcting me Loner. It was a typo. But anyway, I think that they are not all conservative judges; some are actually liberal leaning in the way they vote.

"Of course not. When the time came for a presidential decision on whether to go in and kill Osama Bin Laden, the POTUS made the call...he took the political risks...he assumed the moral responsibility....he accepted responsibility for the success or failure of a very dangerous mission. His advisers advised him, but Obama made the decision and it was a gutsy one....he has proven his presidential qualities."

Hey, didn't I hear that Hillary Clinton is the one called the shot? Obama wanted to bring Osama in and give him a "fair trial". LOL Making the decision to kill the man who wanted to kill every Americn in the world, including YOU Loner, was not "gutsey"; it was an absolute Necessity.

And Obama wanted him taken alive so he could stand trial. Loser! Obama is a loser. He said he'd close Gitmo. NOT done. He said gas would be at $2.00 a gallon; NOT done. He said he'd change unemployment! NOT done. And part time jobs don't count cause people still can't pay their bills.

So he's NOT DONE what he said he'd do. So he's NOW DONE - gone, caput, out of there and I am so glad that 1000 Black Ministers have formed a group called God Says and they are donating one million dollars to have Obama stopped.

The black community is fed up with Obama's CHANGE! Most people wanted positive change - not his negative changes. Good bye Obama.

Homophone Error: "site" s/h/b "cite"....mea culpa...I need a homophone-sensitive spellcheck device....in addition to the red squiggly lines under misspelled words, a green or blue squiggly line under every known English homophone would be helpful.

Thank you Loner for pointing out her complete idiocy.

I'm no sure who will win because Paul is as much a liar as Romney. How fast did he run the marathon?

By: yogiman on 10/11/12 at 8:52

budlight,

Obama's best voters are the ones that don't know who in the hell he is and aren't interested in knowing..., as long as they get their hand outs.

I read where a young woman (deliberately (she was a Republican)) made a request to vote in two states. She went into register to vote in Florida and said she also lived in California and asked if she would get a mail in card for California. So if Barry "wins" you can believe he got as many illegal votes as the votes he got from the idiots that honestly voted for him not even knowing who he is.

And you're right; if he wins, the USA has been flushed down the commode. So where will all of that crap come out? Rot out in the septic tank or flushed out with the slush.

By: gdiafante on 10/11/12 at 8:52

Your argument is fair and well reasoned, Loner. I still think that there's enough resonable doubt as to Obama being able to think and react quickly. I do concede that in many instances a President is afforded the luxury of being able to be deliberate.

I too enjoy a thoughtful reaction rather than knee-jerks, but a debate is neither the time nor place to be pensive.

Maybe Obama proves me wrong in the next two. I hope so. The thought of a Romney administration is enough to induce vomiting.

Biden has had plenty of time to adjust to the new "we can make $7 trillion vanish" magic act of Myth Romney, so I would expect Biden to hammer away at the Romney Ryan "rescue plan for the super-rich."

By: Loner on 10/11/12 at 9:11

We agree on much, Gd....whenever Obama takes a cautious, wait and see approach, the righties accuse him of "dithering".....it's a bogus charge, of course, but the bobble-headed righties love to use the term.....Romney would never "dither"; he would immediately do what he is told.....Sheldon Adleson would make sure of that.

I agree. Even a cursory look into Bishop Romney's treatment of women makes him seem like a member of the American Taliban. And he toured a Chinese factory where he saw thousands of young girls surrounded by barbed wire and guard towers, providing slave labor in terrible conditions ... then invested millions of dollars in the company.

What a creep!

Well, Ummm,

You have two choices next month. You either vote for a Constitutionally eligible candidate or a candidate who is not Constitutionally eligible. If you're an honest American and don't like either of the two, you came pick a write in vote.

It seems most of you know who Romney is and don't want him as our president, but you have no idea who "Obama" is but are willing to accept him. Even though he has continued to refuse to identify himself for over 4 years. Haven't you ever wondered who he is?

So who are the stupidest; those who vote for someone they don't like, or someone they have no idea who in the hell he is? I like to know whose sitting in my office.

My biggest question? Why has Obama so adamantly refused to tell the people who he is? Could it possibly be because the knows he isn't eligible? Or could it possibly be because he has a criminal record he doesn't want the "fools" to know about? Or could it be because he doesn't want the people to learn of his homosexual life?

I like the "Myth Romney" term....hopefully, gaffe-prone Biden will use the term and then apologize with a fecal-ingesting grin....the old "Osama, err, I meant Obama..." stunt.

Mike asked a good question, is Romney's plan based upon myth? Hmmm...I feel the creative juices flowing...some suggested signage...snappy headlines...whatever:

Is it Mitt...or is it Myth?
Is Mitt Romney Mythogenous?
Mitt's Plan: Wishful Thinking.
Mitt's Plan: Pie-in-the Sky.
Mitt's Plan: A Pipe Dream...A Pipeline Dream.
Mitt's Plan: To Be Announced.

By: Loner on 10/11/12 at 9:53

Oddly, Mitt, the switch-hitter, is now against an American woman's right to choose.

This is especially odd, since Romney has visited Israel a dozen times, but has never questioned an Israeli woman's right to choose...Mitt has never threatened to cut US aid to Israel, because of their liberal abortion policies and their state-sponsored abortion clinics.

Mitt believes that Israel has a right to exist, as a Jewish state. Apparently, Mitt does not believe that the Israeli fetus has a right to life.

Mitt has some explaining to do.

By: Mike Burch on 10/11/12 at 10:25

Blanketnazi,

I think there are two very different versions of Christianity.

One is based on autocratic male chauvinism and hypocrisy (other people will go to hell -- gays, etc. -- for not being "perfect" but God will save me by grace). This is essentially the religion of the Pharisees, replacing Abraham with Jesus. Jesus mocked this false religion in his parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man (presumably a Pharisee).

The better version of Christianity, in my opinion, looks to the compassion and good works of Jesus in his earthy ministry. Many such Christians don't believe in hell, or that being gay is a "sin," etc. Compassion and tolerance go hand-in-hand.

The GOP has veered strongly toward the autocratic male chauvinistic version of Christianity, and now resembles the Taliban and Iranian clerics.
