Up for Debate: Predators positioned for postseason play

Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 10:41pm

Only a few years removed from possibly leaving town, the Nashville Predators again find themselves in the postseason — this time with home-ice advantage in the first round against the Red Wings. Do you think hockey roots have finally firmly taken hold in Nashville? How might Nashville be different if the team had left? Finally, what are your predictions for the Preds run at the cup this year?

I have no pucking idea.

This forum not surprisingly is almost a private affair. My casual research says that 14 people make up 95% of the comments and that 40 to 45% of the comments are usually made by LONER,DARGENT7 and YOGIMAN.

I would guess that the above information will not be helpful to anyone including the 14 people who keep this forum alive. I have also noticed that sports do not carry a lot of interest among the combatants (I mean participants)

re: last Friday. What exactly, is "re-usurpation"?
Raspu: TCP used to have a more diverse clientele, "House", Blanket", Big Mama, BudLite,, Girlie-girl, Funditto, EastNashville, Chief...
2-3 years ago they stopped publishing actual LTE's from Reader's and started this "Question of the Day". Most of the time the "Q" is a bore, so people dropped out.
"yogi's" incessant, "usurption", and "who is this guy in the Oval Office- no one know's who he is", has become ridiculous.
We always went, "Off-Topic" quickly whereas "yogi's" of his rocker.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 6:15

You didn't mention the reasons for our posts, Rasputin72, and my main concern being the illegality of the man sitting in the Oval Office of our nation. Nor did your research indicate my posts are primarily responses of throwing rocks back at those tossing pebbles at me.

What do you think of Sheriff Arpaio on his investigation of the usurper in office?

By: treehugger7 on 4/9/12 at 6:28

Looks like this site is a dyin' little town--bring back letters to the editor and ditch the troll...aka paul Wade...

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 6:28

If you knew what usurpation is, you would know what re-usurpation is, but I reckon you didn't learn that in earning your master's degree.

Usurp: to seize and hold (as in office, place, or powers) in possession by force or with out right.

To take or make use of without right.

Re-usurpation is to repeat usurpation.

To an educated person like yourself, you should know Barry Soetoro (a.k.a. Barack Obama) is not in the Oval Office legally being born to a Kenyan father.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 6:31

I didn't know you was also a usurper lover?

You know, it would be more understandable if you actually knew who the guy is, but you don't, do you?

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 6:44

Everybody on this forum knows who Obama is and that he is the President of the United States, except ding bat yogi!

By: treehugger7 on 4/9/12 at 6:56

I am not a usurper lover--I am a reasonable person who does not believe the crap you peddle!

By: treehugger7 on 4/9/12 at 6:57

I also understand how to use good English--I didn't grow up here!

By: Loner on 4/9/12 at 6:58

Hockey: Grown men in skates, barnyard wrestling on ice, with sticks?

Predators prey, they do not develop "roots", as the NCP suggests....some say the Predators preyed on the local taxpayers....and once they've worked this herd, they'll move to another less exploited hunting ground and prey on the taxpayers there. I don't know much about the "blood sports"...so I'm buttin' out.

The Rasp is right, I do rant on a bit here....maybe I have turned too many people off....Sorry, but if you're gonna make an omelet, you gotta break some eggs....I come here to scramble things...to make funny yolks.....to crack hardened shells.....to poach sacrosanct eggs and serve them on toast....it's my earthly mission....Bon appetit!

By: govskeptic on 4/9/12 at 7:00

With an annual taxpayer subsidy of 7-8 million dollars, and the Downtown
Partnership as their top Cheerleaders the Predators will survive! The
owners and highly profitable Concessionaire The owners have presented
the Press and Sports Council a $30-40,000 self selected firm to give us
a per-determined study on what a bargain that Subsidy is to the city.

As for performance the history and future is for a second tier team with
one and sometimes two stars to keep the local sports press happy!

By: treehugger7 on 4/9/12 at 7:08

No need to apologize, Loner. You are a cogent and intelligent poster, unlike some others on this board. It would be nice to have more posters and more diversity. It would also be nice if we didn't have to fund stuff like hockey!! If they can't make it without subsidies, let "em move! How many of you actually go to the games? Just curious. I saw the minor league years ago--once was enough for me, and I have no interest in giving the Preds money, weather thru attending games or subsidizing the team.

By: gdiafante on 4/9/12 at 7:12

Gov, you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground. It's interesting that last week you promoted government subsidies to attract private business, now, you don't.

The simple fact is that the Preds hire people and benefit the area. How is this any different than that twit Dolly Parton opening a snow park?

Oh, one is a famiiar homespun kuntry gal that's not trying to make a buck but to enrich the lives of Nashvillians by charging outrageously high prices for hot dogs and the other is a bunch of damn Yankees (except it's owned locally) that are shoving a Canadian and totally unfamiliar game down us poor Southern idiots throats...

IMO, the Preds have established themselves and are a helluva lot closer to winning a championship than the dumbass thugs known as the Titans.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 7:13

Who is he, bfra? What are you accepting as proof of his identity? If you know him as well as you seem to think, do you know why he refuses to show any papers on himself?

Can you explain why his SSN will not verify? Can you also explain why his "birth certificate" has so many errors? Why some of the letters on it didn't exist in 1961?

By: gdiafante on 4/9/12 at 7:17

Why some of the letters on it didn't exist in 1961?

That's right. The birth certificate has the letter quindrich, which is clearly alien. It came to Earth via the Roswell saucer crash and the government, in it's haste to expediate the conspiracy to put Obama in the White House, accidentally injected several alien alphabet letters into the birth certificate.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 7:26

You obviously wasn't taught to look at a printing to make sure it was printed right or you would be able to see the piece of paper is a fake. Look at the left edge of the paper: How did the sentences line up on a typewriter? Why don't they all line up at the same level. There's more, just look, and if you can't see any so many errors you should go back to school.

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 7:27

troll ignored!

gdiafante - Dolly Parton is definitely not a twit. She has done more to promote TN & Nashville than any sports venue.

By: producer2 on 4/9/12 at 7:31

people like Loner and Govskeptic are a big part of the reason no one posts here. Their limited views on everything concerning the city of Nashville make it hard to have an actual dialogue.
govskeptic....instead of talking about the subsidy, why don't you spend 10 minutes and look up what the monetary gains are for the City that include everything from a seat tax to the ancillary funds that come from folks outside Davidson County that frequent the arena. I know that would require a little work on your part since you might have to actually research something but give it a shot...

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 7:35

Where did you go to school, treehugger7? Did they teach you to say [let (")em move] instead of let 'um move?

And did they teach you [whether] is spelled as weather?

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 7:38

Ignore the troll!

By: Loner on 4/9/12 at 7:38

Thank you, Hugger...same to you.

Gov..we are finding common ground...mark your calendar....this could happen once in a while and when it does, we should take note of it, IMO.

Ron Paul's appeal is to both "extremes", left and right...there is an overlap area...differing motives for supporting the same policy....I believe that the overlap is growing....any comments on that?

Also this:

I don't just bother the folks in Nashville, TN....I'm posting on a Reuter's site here:

Seems like last minute add-on pre-conditions are gumming up the works, just as the new talks with Iran are about to begin....who is the sock puppet....Obama or Netanyahu?

Add in the Azerbaijan card....and suddenly an Israeli strike on Iran looks a lot more doable...check this Foreign Policy article out:

Azerbaijan is on Iran's Northern border and is long-time trading partner with Israel...the soviets abandoned 4 fairly modern air bases there...the Israelis are reportedly making a "secret" deal with the ruling despotic family to use those facilities for a strike on Iran....no mid air re-fueling would be needed...a huge plus for the IAF...apparently the Azerbaijanis have an ancient grudge against the Persians and the Israelis are exploiting the time-honored hate for their own self interests. Who knew?

This could be a parallel with Jimmy Doolittle's raid on Tokyo..in that action, the American bombers continued past their targets and landed, or tried to land, in China.

In this scenario, IAF jets would hit Iran, then fly North to Azerbaijan, where they could land, refuel and possibly reload ordnance.

Talk about expansion of the holy wars...this is scary stuff.

By: gdiafante on 4/9/12 at 7:40

She's done more to promote the Southern stereotype, bfra, than to promote the city. Although you'd think the two go hand in hand. I suppose it would if it were the 1960's, but it's 2012.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 7:42

I am definitely concerned on your statement everyone on this sight knows Barack Obama is our president except me. It's hard to understand how so many [educated] grown people knows a man is their president when they don't even know who he is since he refuses to show any legitimate papers proving his identity, yet you accept him to the highest office in this nation.

Hep 'um, Lord, for they know not.

By: gdiafante on 4/9/12 at 7:45

Ignoring the troll

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 7:47

gdiafante - What do you consider a Southern stereotype? She is as uptown, sophisticated and genuine as you can find. If she is IMO a stereotype of a Southern lady then what would you change?

By: Loner on 4/9/12 at 7:49

By: producer2 on 4/9/12 at 8:31

people like Loner and Govskeptic are a big part of the reason no one posts here. Their limited views on everything concerning the city of Nashville make it hard to have an actual dialogue.

"Limited views"? No "dialogue"?

Well, I naturally disagree with that assessment. I've been called worse....no big deal.

But to say that "nobody posts here" insults and denigrates this posting community...and I will strongly defend the NCP and this posting community's basic integrity and value.

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 7:49

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 8:35

Where did you go to school, treehugger7? Did they teach you to say [let (")em move] instead of let 'um move?

Let'em is short for let them! What is let'um short for?

By: treehugger7 on 4/9/12 at 7:50

Yogi, you have no ground to stand on critiquing others grammar!

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 7:52

Loner - Producer2 only has 1 agenda on any subject or forum. That is, kiss up to Karl Dean, whatever he says, promotes, asks or spends taxpayer's money on.

By: gdiafante on 4/9/12 at 7:54

So Southern ladies like to have plastic surgery until they look awful? That's news to me. lol

Bfra, if you can get past the glitz and glamour, she promotes a simple, hillbilly mentality that may have been cute as a skit in Hee Haw, and may still be applicable to remote locations in Appalachia, but the world has moved past this.

But, people here eat it up.

By: treehugger7 on 4/9/12 at 7:54

Oh, excuse me--I should say "critiquing others' grammar, Mr. Wade! Didn't realize you were such a grammarian--it certainly doesn't show in your posts!

By: dargent7 on 4/9/12 at 7:55

( I can't believe I'm addressing, "yogi")....
Obama didn't just "walk" into Occidental College, Columbia University, and certainly not Harvard University.
He had to show his Birth. Cert. many times, as well as a Social Sercurity card.
Transcripts as well.
To become a IL. State Senator, he had to produce an ID identification.
Under-go an extensive back-round check. Get security clearance, especially being a black man.
Once that is all accomplished, running for President is predicated on "the people's" acceptance.
And, why is a Kenyan born father any different than a Mexician born father?

By: gdiafante on 4/9/12 at 7:58

Bfra, you do realize that Bredesen brought the Predators to Nashville...but let's give credit where credit is due...Dean may have his faults but realizing that losing the Preds would be a huge hit on the city isn't one of them.

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 8:01

gdiafante - Will agree to disagree on the subject of Dolly. If you ever met her & her 1 and only husband (unusual), you might change your mind.

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 8:05

gdiafante - I knew you would be in on this when if came to the Predators & yes, I knew Bredesen was in on getting them here, but, Karl is the one still feeding their egos now.

By: dargent7 on 4/9/12 at 8:13

What more legitimate "papers" are there than college or University admissions requirements? To gain Entrance to Columbia/ Harvard you need a "paper trail" several miles long. All your grades, all your classes, your GPA and SAT scores. Did Obama have someone stand-in for him to take the SAT's?
And what President of the USA would succumb to the crazy "Birther's" movement demanding to see, "your papers"? I'd tell them to go F* themselves, too.
As an accomplished, duly elected, legal President, besides being the 1st "Black" man, he's offended.
And didn't want to set a precedent in case other blacks are elected. Or women and all minorities. Cuban Americans, Italian Americans, Greek Americans, Chinese Americans.
That's why all that matters is "born on American soil".

By: bfra on 4/9/12 at 8:15

d7 - I can just see it now! All those nurses & drs. discussing this new born little baby. Topic - Now he has all the makings for President of the US, let's start falsifying all of his documents, so he won't have any problems when he is grown.

Oh! Drat, April fools day has already past. My bad!

By: Loner on 4/9/12 at 8:16

Bfra, I assumed that producer2 has a dog or two in the hunt....he's a fan of bread & circus governance...he's either in the bread or the circus business?

Rasputin talks about the producer class...is this guy a member of that class....."what hath producer2 wrought?"

By: dargent7 on 4/9/12 at 8:16

Dolly's facial surgery makes her look like "The Joker" in Batman.
Probably worse than Cher's.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 8:19

The point isn't his father was born in Kenya. His father was not a naturalized citizen and never became a naturalized citizen. I'm sure if he had, Barry would have shown those papers the minute he put his name in the pot.

I'd suggest you go back on the records you mentioned. The only proof he needed to have in such a manner was when he threw his hat in the presidential ring.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 8:26

Correct me if I'm wrong, Obama has not shown any of the papers he claims to have. He's only stated he has them. Why hasn't any former classmates come forward to make comments about him.

Why won't the hospital acknowledge he was born there instead of not acknowledging it. Wouldn't it be good free advertisement?

And no, he refuses to prove he is in the office legally, which under the circumstances, I would imagine he has killed the chance of a Negro winning that office in the near future.

By: Loner on 4/9/12 at 8:33

Ignoring the troll...standing by. This is protest Monday again...can't stay online for much longer..if producer2 or anyone else wants to argue about anything...I stand ready, willing and able....I prefer the big game....make your play.

By: jvh2b on 4/9/12 at 8:39

Coming to your defense here Loner - I don't know what Producer2 is talking about trying to nail you to the wall here. Yes, your opinionated (it's a discussion board for Christ's sakes!) but you are ALWAYS (IMHO) willing and able to debate a subject in a very civil manner...and you have said on NUMEROUS occasions, that your opinion is based on what YOU have heard, and if you are unsure you bow out to those of us that live here. Makes me think you nailed this guy in an argument once and he's still bitter.

That being said, I have to say I agree w/ him on the Pred's issue. We may be giving up money, but we're doing it to MAKE money. The $$ brought in even on a slow night is significant. I've worked the concession at the arena for hockey games, and I know what one little slow booth brings in...multiply that by the boat load of booths there (sales taxes!) and then add those taxes to bars restaurants etc, it all comes back to us, and then some.

Gd - you have got to be the only person on this planet that has such a hatred for Dolly - she is one of the kindest, fairest, intelligent, funniest, most genuine human on the face of this planet. If every celebrity were like her this world would be a much better place. I'm really curious where your dislike of her comes from...she is who she is, and she isn't afraid to be that...it's not an act...it's her.

By: BenDover on 4/9/12 at 8:47

Preds are a big part of the critical mass that makes our down-town viable. When conventions / hockey games coincide it's really going to be something.

Southerners love symmetry though.... 3 periods? wtf?

By: BenDover on 4/9/12 at 8:48

As for Dolly, I'm a huge fan. She is my favorite entertainer and has been all of my adult life.

By: BenDover on 4/9/12 at 8:51

And I would like to also offer a personal thank you to all you guys in the suburbs for chipping in on things like the Preds to keep my condo value up there in the stratosphere. I really appreciate it.

By: Loner on 4/9/12 at 8:58

Thank you, jvh2b, for the kind words.

I'm not trying to imply that generously hosting the Sounds, the Preds or the Titans in Nashville is a bad thing or a total financial loss to the community at large.

I have questioned the wisdom and efficacy of giving professional sports franchises tax breaks, sweetheart deals, preferential treatment, easements etc.

Is the public's interest being served? Or are the special interests having their way with governance? That's my main concern and "agenda" here, not maliciously denigrating Nashville's sports teams.

Financial incentives to corporations comes under the rubric of "Corporate Welfare". Just as with welfare for individuals, if it is truly needed, OK....if it's for fun & games, I tend to reject the idea.

In the specific case of Nashville, Tennessee, I think that your reputation as "Music City, USA" should be cherished and embellished...not traded in for a new reputation, as "Jock City, Tennessee".

But that is just my opinion....I welcome some "dialogue" with the producer.

By: yogiman on 4/9/12 at 9:01

My grandkids are up and running so you won't have to worry about this "troller" today... except maybe a time or two when I get a chance to sit down.

But I must say, how there can be so many political idiots on this site so willing to accept someone they have no idea who he is as their president is beyond me.

Have fun, y'all.
