Up for Debate: Ramsey on taxing savings

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 11:45pm

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey told reporters Tuesday he'd back the governor's plan to cut the "grocery tax" but would rather cut a bigger slice out of the tax retirement savings. Ramsey called it “blatantly unfair” that the state taxes people who save for retirement. What are your thoughts on the taxes, the proposed plans to cut them and Ramsey's statement?

Loner,

I apologize to "Maxine" for not mentioning her name yesterday; and to her author (I didn't notice their name), so to correct my error, lrt me start your day off with this quote:

"We cannot expect Americans to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their selected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they wake up to find they have communism"... Soviet Leader, Nikita Krushchev, 1959.

Are you and your fellow posters awake with usurper Barry Soetoro?

By: Ask01 on 11/28/12 at 5:30

Let me be the first to actually comment on the subject.

Ramsey is just following the standard GOP playbook.

Rather than cut taxes on groceries, a move which would help everyone, but most especially the lower income classes. he would opt to reduce taxes on retirement savings, which while also helping everyone, would be of more benefit to the upper income classes who are able to put more money aside.

Get comfortable, and grab the gurney Tennessee. You voted them into office, they are putting on the examination gloves, and opting to save money by not using lubrication.

Just like the old car commercial, "You asked for it, you got it."

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 5:53

If you pay taxes on your income, and you pay taxes on the interest received on your savings, will you receive your retirement money tax free upon retirement? Don't count on it.

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 6:10

Yogi, this matter is settled.

It could be worse, Ask. Some states have sales tax and a state income tax. TN has one of the smallest tax burdens in the country.

http://blogs.knoxnews.com/humphrey/2012/10/study-says-tn-has-3rd-lowest-t.html

It's not a bad place to retire either, financially...

http://voices.yahoo.com/tennessee-cost-living-retirees-low-state-and-3001080.html

My point is, when people here start whining about taxes, I take it with a grain of salt.

Hot Air Balloon? A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon approximately 30 above ground elevation or 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said,m "You must be a Republican".

"I am," replied the man, "How did you know?"

"Well", answered the balloonist, "Everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be an Obama-Democrat."

"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "You don't know where you are - or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air.You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it's my fault."

Oh looky, the troll can still copy and paste (he just can't click, read and comprehend).

By: Loner on 11/28/12 at 6:23

Good morning, Nashville.

This story was also covered here:

http://nashvillepost.com/news/2012/11/27/ramsey_prefers_savings_tax_reduction_over_slicing_grocery_tax

Ramsey and the Tea-baggers are gonna hose the little people and pad the bank accounts of their base...white evangelical Christian bigots.....this is just the start of the new realignment in values that will begin at the top of the social pyramid in TN and work its way down to the level of the common folk....it's a new paradigm in the bagger states...the secession-friendly, gun-toting, homosexual-hating, xenophobic, racist, theocratic states that are just dying to leave the union of American states.

When the traitors leave the union this time around, I hope that the POTUS just lets the jerk-offs go their own way....the South never repented of its original sins....they still resent being forced back into the union of American states....let the idiots go...good riddance.

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 6:28

What matter is settled, gdiafante, Barry Soetoro's usurpation of power? And you're an ex-Marine?

What was your duties in service, cleaning the officers 'out house'?

What oath did you take when you went in? It couldn't be the same one I took.

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 6:30

It's funny, Loner, 150 years later and there's only a few differences...electricity and the 13th amendment. Other than that, we're still fighting the damn war. I went to see Lincoln recently and I was shocked at how some people in the audience vocally sympathized with the Confederates. Amazing.

No, I think that if we end up with a score of states attempting to leave the union, we should do what Lincoln wasn't prepared to do...treat them as what they were...traitors. And what do we do with traitors...

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 6:33

My duties are irrelevant. It's been over a week, you still cannot provide any tangible evidence (in truth, you haven't been able to dating back to 2008). The matter is settled.

Obama's a two-term, legally elected President and you're a bitter old racist who's pointy little head can't wrap around the idea that your white bread America is dead.

Don't go away mad, just go away.

By: Loner on 11/28/12 at 6:39

Once again...Yogi, on your screen you will see a window, near the top, with this:

http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/city-voices/debate-ramsey-taxing-savings#comment-362486

That is the address of this web page...also called the URL. If you right click on it, it will be highlighted...left click on the highlighted URL (click on "copy"), now, the URL info has been copied...to paste the URL down, you right click, on "paste"...the URL will then be transferred to your text...this sources your quotes and info.....try it.

If somebody sends you an e-mail that looks like it's been around the net, it probably has...to find out its original source, copy a few words of the text...especially unusual bits of text...then paste it down into a Google search window...the source of the piece is usually revealed by using this simple technique.

There, I have communicated with you, Yogi....if you cool it with the Usurper BS, you are welcome to participate in the discussions here....if you keep whining about birther crap, you will be ignored.

By: Rasputin72 on 11/28/12 at 6:52

I laughed almost aloud when I read the "debate topic,"for today. I am thinking. at most there are 19 people who comnent on this forum. 13 of whom have no idea what the Hall tax is abd 10 of whom do not have a retirement savings account othet than social security. Then there is the "Simple Six" who not only do not contribute to a retirement savings but are betting their retirement future that Obama like politicians will incorporate a stipend into Obama care as a subsidy to social security. They of course favor reducing the sales tax on groceries.

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 7:02

sorry, gdiafante,

Obama is not a legally elected president. You know, according to the Constitution (unless it has been changed) you must be a natural born citizen to hold that office. Barry ain't a natural born citizen. Hell, is he even a citizen of the USA? Prove it. And don't refer that fake paper he showed. They made too many errors in it.

And you call me a racist? You don't know me, gdiafante. Hell, you apparently don't know me any better than you know Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama.

Look into his actions beyond your nose and you'll see a racist from the word go.

By: Loner on 11/28/12 at 7:05

618,000 soldiers and sailors died in the war between the states...455 men from tiny Orleans County, New York died in the bitter and bloody slaughter...Orleans is my home county...they built a sandstone tower, atop Mt. Albion cemetery, as a monument to the Civil War dead from Orleans County...in the vestibule of that tower are the names of those killed...nine marble tablets, each with about 50 names....those who contemplate secession today should gaze upon that lengthy list of young men who made the ultimate sacrifice, to preserve the union.

The tower has a spiral staircase that leads to an observation deck, about 3 stories above grade...one can see Lake Ontario from there, on a clear day...a distance of ten miles. I grew up about a mile from the tower....it's quite an experience.

Here a link to a you tube video that somebody shot of our monument...it starts out at the top and takes you down the spiral staircase into the vestibule...notice the nine marble tablets....the video ends with a shot of the tower from the outside.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYzRoXoXDB0

If you watch this video, you may understand why I feel so strongly about this issue.

My own great, great grandfather fought with those guys...NY 8th Heavy Artillery Battalion....many of his unit were killed at Cold Harbor, VA...he was wounded and captured by the rebels and held as a POW....lost his teeth to scurvy while in a rebel prison...his leg never healed right...he walked with a limp the rest of his life....he volunteered at age 16.....no we don't forget that stuff up here.

For someone that thinks he is of the upper class Rasputin can count. There is 4 that have no idea what the Hall(sic) is abd(sic)

Go figuer. (sic)

By: Loner on 11/28/12 at 7:11

Hey, I tried, once again, to make nice with our resident troll...again, it was futile...he enjoys being the board's pain in the arse....the guy lives for the thrill of being a hated jerk and an A-hole....can you imagine how he treated inmates under his supervision?
I'm surprised that one of his former victims hasn't hunted him down by now and settled the score....the guy is a complete ASSHOLE.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:16

You will have to show this the next times I come Loner.

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 7:17

Thanks for the lesson, Loner. I appreciate it. I'll try it out. But to quit on my argument on the usurper of the Oval Office, then I must say, just ignore me; because I will not quit until you re-read the Constitution and prove 'Obama' is in that office legally.

And don't give me that crap "because he was elected." If that's a fact, Vladimir Putin could come over here and run for that office because he's as much of a natural born citizen as Barack Obama.

Don't you remember, there was certain qualification you must have when you went in service? Don't you think there is certain qualifications one must have to become President of this nation, or do you just think anyone who's little heart desires can hold that office?

And by the way, I'm not promoting his autobiography (written by Bill Ayres), but maybe you should read it.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:21

Trolls can never be anything than what they are Loner. To walk and talk among humans is extremely hard for them to manage

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:23

Now for the subject at hand; if Ramsey has anything to do with it then it has to be wrong. Enough said on the subject.

By: bfra on 11/28/12 at 7:24

Not sure which one can spin the tallest tale, yogi or Raspy! Then there is bud, but she only throws in snippets.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:24

yogi you are a liar and a coward.

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 7:26

Yogi still can't dispute what I posted. I suppose he thinks that if he writes it, it must be true...lol.

Until the troll can actually post something substantial...[click]

Loner, down here it's all about The Lost Cause. That's what they teach the kids, so it really shouldn't be a surprise that the South can't fully get over the Civil War.

I still see Confederate flags on trucks and in yards...which is extremely embarrassing.

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 7:28

Loner, men, and women, young and old, have been dying for this nation since it was founded. Only those that didn't want to die was, and are, so willing to give in to the invader.

And I don't mean to compare myself to your great grandfather, but you state he enlisted at the age of 16. I joined the Tennessee State Guard at the age of 13 during WWII. Yeah, for once in my life I lied, but the enlistment office smiled and signed me in (I stuttered when I gave him my birth date).

And WOW!, he issued me a Thompson sub-machine gun. I learned how to take that unit apart and put it back together blindfolded.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:34

(Flush)

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 7:36

You children can call me anything you wish. It would be simple to make me the actual dam idiot you claim me to be. What is it? Simply prove Barack Obama is in that office legally.

What? You can't? Why not? So you're just willing to accept anyone who can usurp the office.

That my friends (as I use the term loosely) is the base difference between us. I do hope we're all Americans.

Can you prove Obama is?

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 7:36

Yeah, the military during WWII wasn't prepared to properly screen applicants for psychological issues...they just let anyone in...lol

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 7:37

I already did, Yogi. The ball's in your court. Chop chop.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:38

DOUBLE (Flush)

By: bfra on 11/28/12 at 7:39

All yogi comments - MOOT! - No substance, No facts, No proof & to top all that off, they don't even make sense.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:47

This is the first time yogi has talk about his enrollment in the second world war. Why now does he make this claim? It was the Korean War stupid.

The old fool has been caught lying so many times, how would

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/28/12 at 7:48

We do have to get yogi and his compadres credit - people like him are causing the demise of the GOP and the reason Obama received a second term. They are doing more for the election of Democrats than the Dems could do for themselves. They are putting themselves and the GOP on the fast track to irrelevance.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/28/12 at 7:49

g, try "italianizing" you comments and see if that helps.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:49

Next we will hear about his experience in the Civil War. LOL

By: bfra on 11/28/12 at 7:50

Blanket - So true & they are too dumb to see that so they keep right on down the same path.

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 7:51

Actually, nemo, I think he's right...going by memory, he's around 81...so he would have been born in 1931, which would have made him 13 in 1944 or close to that time.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:53

I have italianizing yogis mental state and his is a lying, cowardly troll

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 7:56

But why is this the first time we hear anything about it? He has been 81 now for two years.

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 7:58

I'm not saying that he did enlist like that, just that the time frame fits. He could've enlisted in WWII had they allowed him in at 13 or 14. Is that likely? I have no idea. Today, it seems far fetched but 70 years ago...maybe.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/28/12 at 7:59

By: bfra on 11/28/12 at 7:50

Blanket - So true & they are too dumb to see that so they keep right on down the same path.

Yeah, that's the funny part - lol! Keep on truckin'!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/28/12 at 8:00

g, you're right about the taxes. I've lived in four different states and I can't believe people here complain about taxes! Out of state friends laugh and cry when I tell them how little the property tax is on my house and how we don't have a state income tax. No wonder the schools are so crappy.

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 8:04

bfra,

I'll readily admit, I'm not a master on this computer. But as the old saying goes, you can learn a little bit more every day. And I think I've just learned how to possibly forward some of what I have to you... so here goes:

Just take 10 minutes of you time to watch this show. It will explain what it is. And I strongly urge you watch it all the way through.

www.beforeitsnews.com/opinion-conservative-2010/08/video-former-kgb-official-plan-unfolding-in-america-127665.html

And there's more.

By: Loner on 11/28/12 at 8:05

Yes, I'd be happy to show you the tower at Mt. Albion, Captain Nemo.

They are draining the Erie Canal for the winter...some geese in my wide-waters are confused this morning...there was water there yesterday...today its mud flats and isolated puddles....it will stay like that until they fill the canal next April...they leave just a little water in the main trench over the winter....that freezes and some daring folks run their snowmobiles on the ribbon of ice....the ice quality is poor under the many bridges that cross the Erie Canal, as salt from the road finds its way onto the ice surface...(steel decked bridges)...thermal pollution from the numerous culverts that run under the canal (natural streams that cross under the canal) also make canal ice rather dangerous...but hi-speed snowmobiles zip over the slushy sections....just don't stop on one of the soft spots.

I like to x-country ski on the canal's towpath...you can go from town to town that way....no hills to deal with....it's quite nice.

By: Loner on 11/28/12 at 8:08

Yogi can cut-paste website addresses....perhaps there is hope?

NAH...no way.

By: yogiman on 11/28/12 at 8:08

Can't you read, dumbo? I joined the Tennessee State Guard in 1943. That was in the middle of WWII. I was in the Navy during the Korean conflict. I flew all over it but never set foot on the land.

We haven't been in a declared war since WWII. You know, all just simple conflicts.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 8:08

It sounds nice Loner. Never skied before, but there is always a first time.

By: gdiafante on 11/28/12 at 8:10

Right...not a computer expert...yada yada yada...it's really simple, yogi. You say he's not a natural born citizen. Prove it. Don't show me some ex-KGB agent's propaganda film, show me the law.

Yes, it's a trick question because I've already shown you the law and you're not right. I just like to see you scramble around and make an ass of yourself. :)

By: bfra on 11/28/12 at 8:12

Does sound nice Loner, but I'll do my sking on water, much warmer.:-)

By: Captain Nemo on 11/28/12 at 8:13

Like I say yogi you are a liar and a coward. It is hard to tell when you are telling the truth and when you are just confused. Now why haven you told us about this before now. You love to talk about yourself.

By: bfra on 11/28/12 at 8:14

gdiafante - He doesn't have to scramble for that, it is obvious, he was born that way.
