Up for Debate: The replacement refs

Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 12:51am

There's been some growing chatter in the world of NFL fans about the replacement referees and the job they are, or aren't, doing. How do you feel about the job the replacements have done? Have you seen blatant instances of either loss of control of the game or worse-than-normal blown calls? Do you worry that the NFL isn't too concerned about bringing back the regulars because the league knows the viewers are still going to watch either way?

"Loner, reducing our corporate rates and eliminating all the meddlesome cronyism with the deductions would increase corporate revenues greatly while at the same time eliminate a lot of non-value-added compliance costs.

It would be nice to repatriate some of those dollars and compete on par with other countries for the revenues since we are footing the bill for all of the defense costs of these other nations.

Also it would be nice to restructure the tax system so it make sense to release some of the gain in the form of dividends rather than continuing to wrap it up in unnecessary capital investments."

I wonder Ben, do you have any experience in anything other than sitting at a desk clicking a mouse button? .... cause you sure as hell don't know shit about the economics of manufacturing....

By: slacker on 9/19/12 at 11:50

brrrrk, so true. Similar to Obama saying: '' if I can't get this done in 3 years, it will be a one term proposition.''

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 11:52

If an individual must pay a certain percentage of their net earnings into the SS fund, then the corporation should be similarly taxed on their net earnings. If Individuals pay a certain percentage of their net earnings to the IRS, then these corporate person-hood entities should pay the same percentage of their net earnings to the IRS...Citizens United has declared that corporations are persons...let us tax them as such.

Amen, Brrrk......as a nation state, we talk, but often fail to deliver.

By: slacker on 9/19/12 at 11:54

Sorry brrrrk. Didn't see your last post.

Artificial persons

Slack points out a possible case-in-point of presidential reneging...but, BHO did not promise to resign, if he could not get in done in one term, did he? If so, then, that would be evidence that our POTUS is a reneger....but I do not see the evidence in this particular case....I'll give him more time to repair the damage that the GOP inflicted in 2008. It took Bush the Younger 8 years to undo the period of "Clinton Prosperity."..it will take BHO 8 years to restore the balance....to restore the prosperity and peace that we all so desire.

...."get it done", that is....need an edit function here.

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:07

LOL, Ben...so true. Fun bags rule.

By: BenDover on 9/19/12 at 12:11

It's an artsy fartsy restaurant called Etch, slack. I give it 6 months. I suspect I'll still hoof it over to Piranhas for chili-dogs... and Big Shotz for cheap beer.

Speaking of Piranhas... did you guys see someone claims to have caught one in Priest Lake?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/19/12 at 12:16

Ben, Etch is awesome! The chef from Zola is running the place and the food is awesome.

By: BenDover on 9/19/12 at 12:21

I know a lot about it brrrrk. Dividends are taxed as ordinary income so most stockholders want the companies to reinvest. That's why there's another Walgreens on every corner.

Having our corporate rate higher than other countries is just another tax on our consumers and it harms US companies ability to compete in the world market. It also encourages the multi-nationals to realize their incomes in other countries.

Drop the corporate rate to 25% and corporate tax revenues will go up. Just like dropping the capital gains taxes under Clinton and Bush caused capital gains revenues to go up.

By: BenDover on 9/19/12 at 12:22

I'll check it out Blanket.

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:24

I like the moniker, "Etch"....as in Etch-a-Sketch...."Wanna cum up and see my etchings, my dear?"....the word looks and sounds a little like,"Bitch", though, doesn't it?

I like it....etch-a-bitch.com sounds like a cool domain name for something....online figure drawing classes, perhaps?

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:30

Ben, comparing European economies with ours is fraught with danger...their tax structures are altogether different...most have government-sponsored social welfare and healthcare programs that are very different from ours.

If we had a single-payer healthcare system here, US employers would not be burdened with providing basic health care coverage to their workers.

Apples are not a citrus fruit, Ben.

By: BenDover on 9/19/12 at 12:34

The decision by a multi-national corporation where to realize its income has nothing to do with universal health care and sales taxes Loner.

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:37

When Ben uses Heritage Foundation stats as evidence, I think of this quote from Twain...."Lies, damned lies, and statistics" .

...and "Figures don’t lie, but liars figure.", attributed to Twain.

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:45

Ben sex: "The decision by a multi-national corporation where to realize its income has nothing to do with universal health care and sales taxes Loner."

What?!

"Sales taxes"? I thought that we were discussing federal taxation of corporations, not consumer-paid, point of person taxation.

If taxation and healthcare were non-factors, then why the exodus of US investment to offshore corporations, Ben? Don't the foreign sweat shops get around the taxation and healthcare regulations? How could they not be a factor in the decision-making?

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:46

Ben sex s/hb Ben sez...my bad....x and z are too close together on the keyboard.

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 12:52

Made-in-China products are cheaper than Made-in-USA products of the same quality, because we have a higher quality of life here...but Atlas has shrugged...he does not want to carry the burden of America's prosperity.....the load is a lot easier in the third world societies....Atlas has dropped the ball....we are bouncing.

By: BenDover on 9/19/12 at 12:55

We are not talking about operations Loner, that outsourcing will continue. We are talking about Corporate Taxes on profits.

By: Loner on 9/19/12 at 1:03

You wrote, "sales taxes", Ben.

Are you claiming that corporate taxes on profit are or not a factor in where to locate physical plant, Ben? Local and state tax breaks are not a factor? Federal taxes are not a factor? Foreign corporate tax structures, in offshore manufacturing operations are not a factor?

I don't buy that, Ben.

But, I do have to run along, kids...I invested a lot of time here today....got some laughs....exchanged some ideas.....ignored the troll(s).....and the price was right....since it's free here at the NCP, we all get our money's worth....see ya!

"I know a lot about it brrrrk."

Really? So when's the last time you did anything like product design, or prototyping, or manufacturing time estimates, or product cost analysis? Unless you get down in the dirt, you know nothing.... it's all ivory tower theory. Like my mechanical engineering brother used to say, "Dancing is more than just knowing where to put your feet, you have to be able to physically do it to before you can say you really know how to dance". Problem with guys like you, you want to tell someone how to dig a hole when you've never held a shovel in your life. And frankly that's the problem with all management these days.... they have no connection with the products their supposed to me managing. We need to go back to the days when the guy at the top came from the bottom.

An interesting survey... and it isn't one of the major medias surveys.

Fergit about Loner and B2, budlight. The just "talk" a lot. They aren't very active. I mean, hell, they ain't giving you anything of theirs.

By: BenDover on 9/19/12 at 1:26

wtf brrrk... we're all cogs in a bigger machine.

I'm at the executive level now but I came up through IT. I've worked in Manufacturing, Insurance and now Distribution. I've done warehouse, inventory, accounting, payroll, conveyor, pick-to-light, RF terminal, Web systems in every language you can think of from Assembler, PL1, Cobol, Fortran, Basic, Pascal, Delphi, Clipper, VB, C, C++, SQL on everything from mainframes to micro-controllers wearing every hat from Network engineer to DBA.

So what's your point?

And all that you've mentioned is pure service..... it produces nothing.

By: brrrrk on 9/19/12 at 1:31

And by the way Ben, I'm not surprised in the least that you're in networking... It's by nature a natural fit for authoritarians. :-)

By: yogiman on 9/19/12 at 1:34

You're right to a point bfra, but Loner isn't a comedian in words only. He jokes better when he's bouncing his balls. You know, his basket balls; three at a time while telling jokes.

the replacement refs are doing a great job. only 31% of challenges this year have b een overturned vs 53% last year and 43% in 2010. get rid of the overpaid strikers as reagan did to he air traffic controllers - pro football will survive.

By: yogiman on 9/19/12 at 3:00

A paradoxical quote of the day from Ben Stein:

"Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen. Now add this; "Many of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens."

Think about it when you vote in November!

By: yogiman on 9/19/12 at 3:07

An interesting comparison between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama.

In 1986 when he was President, Libya killed American citizens. Reagan ordered the bombing of their leader's house.

Libya was quiet for almost 25 years. Then someone apologized.

By: bfra on 9/19/12 at 3:11

Just read another article about Romney's rating falling fast & he is really trying to get that gold foot out of his mouth, but it is stuck.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/19/12 at 3:15

OK. Know what's funny? The GOP being the party of "no taxes" yet complaining about those who don't pay taxes.....

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/19/12 at 3:34

Thanks, bfra.

By: bfra on 9/19/12 at 3:35

Tell them you read Tarot cards and can know IN ADVANCE whether the guy's guilty.

By: yogiman on 9/19/12 at 5:35

brrrrk,

Why was 2 minutes dropped out of that recording? Did Mother Jones "accidentally" turn it off for 2 minutes? BS.

By: yogiman on 9/19/12 at 5:47

B2,

What polls are right and which ones are wrong? The polls given by the news media show Obama on a big lead. But poll given my NewsMax shows Romney a big leader. So which one's actual?

Check the NewsMax on my 2:17 post.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/19/12 at 6:12

Tarot cards...never thought of that. lol
