Good morning, Nashville.

The Washington Post reports that U.S. intelligence has mined data directly from Internet companies' servers. Is that a proper use of authority? Should the government be allowed to continue such practice?

The patriot Act was presented to the US Congress for consideration while the twin towers still burned...it was approved before ground zero stopped smoldering...it was a canned piece of liberty-stealing legislation that was crafted by Joe Lieberman and the Israel lobby....once the patriot Act became law, the US and Israel truly began to share the same dubious core values.

The Israelis have been on a constant war footing ever since the UN created the Jewish state in Muslim Palestine, in 1948. The Israelis have long ago surrendered many of their personal freedoms and liberties, in a futile attempt to enhance their security. The Patriot Act brought Israeli values to America...we Americans now live in a state of low-level, but constant fear....and the security forces seem to be everywhere.

We ought to identify and eliminate the causes of Muslim antipathy towards the US,
instead of robbing Americans of their freedom in the name of security. We must address the underlying causes of this modern-day holy war, not try to insulate ourselves from the effects of those causes by becoming a hi-tech police state.

No! The government is in office to guide we the people, not rule us.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 6:12

After 9/11 the Bush administration started to remove laws that gave the government the power to look into every ones lives in the name of Nation Security. The people let this happen, after being warn that it was an invasion of privacy. After all it was war and what the hell all is fair.

Now it comes as a surprise that the Obama is moving forward with what Bush started and now it becomes a concern. Should the government be allowed to continue this practice? Maybe that question should have been ask before the people gave away their rights to privacy.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 6:20

Stupid old man, “The government is in office to guide we the people, not rule us.” Yet this decayed banana pudding is so willing to everyone how to live their lives. Now if it was “White Republican” in office he would be praising, the deed.

Going over yesterday post, I see that UPS has delivered Loner’s jeep parts. This mean our friend will be leaving for his summer retreat and showing his entire private….feeling for all to see. LOL

Careful, bfra, you're exposing your lack of intelligence in your display of ignorance, or don't you know the difference between 'girls' and 'boys' according to your 6:09 post.

Just how weak is that cell unit you think is your brain?

By: Captain Nemo on 6/6/13 at 6:45

Cell unit? lol Stupid yogi.

Burgeoning technology has rendered personal privacy a thing of the past. No matter if it is the federal government or the hacker next door, everything we do online is subject to the scrutiny of others, whether we like it or not. It then becomes incumbent upon the individual to avoid electronic communication when intending to preserve as much privacy as possible. Government monitoring is not going away and, to the extent that it prevents terrorist acts, might actually provide some benefit to the public-at-large. This is one issue which makes me feel rather "conservative,"
because I'd like to turn back the clock on the more troubling aspects presented by "progress" in this case, but of course no one can.

Yeah, Ground Hog, one cannot hunker down in their burrow....sometimes you gotta stand up on your hind legs and take a look around....I hope that you have shaken of the hibernation blues...BTW, have you ever chucked wood?

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 7:09

S/H/B "shaken off"...my bad...an edit function here would be sweet.

yogi didn't show outrage for the Patriot Act yet he complains now. And all his idiotic Tea Party buddies in the House support such things. Hypocrite.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 7:27

In small towns USA or anywhere earth, everyone knows what everyone does. I don’t see to much difference in this than except that it is now done by high Tec instead of low Tec.

If you want to get off, then get off the grid. This is not our grandparents world.

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 7:34

Yes, Captain, the front brake wheel cylinders are here and are being installed as I type this...I leave that stuff to the professionals....they have the expertise, experience and the tools to do the job right....with brakes, you don't want to dink around.

The weather here went from Summer-like to Fall-like...lows in the 40's at night....it's overcast... drizzly... and just 58F outside right now....they are calling for rain today and tomorrow...we got over 2 inches yesterday....I may delay my take-off until Sunday, when it's supposed to be nice....don't want to put the US MULE - (my new NYS vanity plates are now on there) - through some sort of stressful downpour situation...the wipers on those things are a joke...about 6 inches long and nearly useless in a hard rain.

I take the back roads to my summer retreat...I stay off the interstate and thruway...I take my sweet time....50-55 MPH...traveling on a nice day is the best way to go to camp, IMO.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 7:37

I think budlight should be very careful in her posting now that she is working for the government. Her posting after 9:30 and saying the things she does about the President and the Liberal Government could lead to charges of treason.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 7:40

I wonder if she's using the "govment's" computer when she's posting? Can't you get in trouble for that?

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 7:42

I remember traveling the back roads along the coast to Buffalo. I did enjoy that little trip. I am going to try to see of I can make a short trip back that way this year, Loner.

I am going to say I hope you have a good time now, because I might not be ablr to say it later.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 7:46

Yes you can, Blanket. She said that she post on her time, but she often does it after she is on the clock at 9:30 and and the at 10:50 she post again, on her "break". LOL

Congress has previously passed up opportunities to compel public disclosure about the breadth of domestic surveillance operations. Last December, Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon attempted to amend federal law to force the government to disclose more about the secret intelligence court’s interpretations of the executive branch’s surveillance powers. His amendment was voted down 37-54, with only three Republicans in support.

Another amendment, proposed by Senator Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, would have compelled the NSA to give an estimate of how often the NSA ends up collecting information on Americans–a request the NSA had previously refused to fulfill on the Orwellian grounds that it would violate Americans’ privacy for the agency to disclose how often it spies on them.

That amendment was also rejected, 43-52, with most Republicans in the chamber voting against it.

Thanks for the good wishes, Captain....same to you, sir.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 7:54

Have a good time, Loner!

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 7:59

Interesting post, Bn...the so-called, "limited government" advocates are the biggest supporters of Big Brother governance...the police state...for our own good, of course....and they think of themselves as, "patriots"....they are self-serving tools of the special interests.....fear-mongers....professional zealots.....and of course, hypocrites.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 8:06

That about sums it up, Loner. They want "limited government" until they don't. They can't even be consistent.

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 8:10

Thanks Bn....I'll be outta here soon....I need to recharge my spiritual batteries every Summer....and party my ass off in so doing....our earthly mission is simply to have fun....human beings are the fun-bearing animals....it's what it's all about....sadly, the shaman, the witch doctors, the gurus, the holy men, the messiah figures, the Scriptural authors, the theologians, the rabbis, the imams, the pastors, the priests, the bishops, the cardinals and the popes got it all wrong.

I'm talking about Responsible Hedonism....RH.....the other RH factor.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 8:12

LOL, Loner. :)

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 8:18

Hey, did you guys know that Dick Cheney flunked out of college twice, was convicted of two DWIs, received two draft deferments and shot a Texas attorney?

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 8:20

Is that the bare truth, Loner? wink wink.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 8:24

It was the attorney’s fault. He should have known that he was drunk and he was standing in front of Dick’s loaded gun. He got what he deserved.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 8:26

LOL, Nemo

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 8:33

That is how FOX News reported it.

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 8:58

Two DWI's? That explains why Dick never goes up to Canada...to hunt farm-raised game....they do not allow anyone with a DWI to enter Canada....besides that, he might get arrested for war crimes.

He got four student deferments, as I recall....then, as a father, he was exempted from the draft...he was a lover, not a fighter at that time.

Dick is laying low...not even invited to the GOP Convention...he's hunkered in some bunker...looking online for more organ donors....and the blood of young virgins.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 9:02

It is getting close to the Cow Report.

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 9:05

Back to the topic....using the time-honored Beer Analogy: I used to think that BHO was actually Bush Llite...I can see now that the brew is Bush Dark....a heady brown ale...a potent brew, for sure....enjoy responsibly, we are recording everything.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 9:06

More like the Heffer Hot Air Report.

By: Loner on 6/7/13 at 9:50

Udder nonsense.

I wonder if she's using the "govment's" computer when she's posting? Can't you get in trouble for that?

To ease your feeble mind, nazi, the computers issued only have programs which are relevant to the job we are doing and none of them will allow access to places such as CP.

And no I don't like the president's policies, but neither do millions of others, including government workers. That's called Freedom of Speech. He allows innocent unborn babies to be slaughtered; and he is a wishy washy when it come to social issues such as gay marriage. FIrst he say he don't, then he say he do. Oh my my, what's on his shoe? Did he step in it or was it there all along, cause he's always changing the tune to his song. He slips and slides and he shucks and jives, and now he's on a roll, putting America in a hole.

No I don't like Obama. But the laws do not say I have to like him. And I swore an oath to my country, not the president, when I took this job.

You people are clueless and mean spirited.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 10:28

You can't access TCP? I guess you tried....LOL! And I can see how the irony of hating the government yet getting a paycheck from them goes over your head.

By: yogiman on 6/7/13 at 10:59

It's funny, B2,

It seems the Republicans are always wrong in the way they vote but the democrats are always right. Do you mind explaining that philosophy to me?

Are the democrats really that perfect on their thoughts?

By: yogiman on 6/7/13 at 11:08

Oh, by the way, B2, thanks for "telling" me Barry is in that office legally so many times. I'm still trying to figure out if you said what you've said you said

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 11:14

You people are clueless and mean spirited, says the clueless mean sprinted cow.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 11:15

Stupid yogi.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 11:16

yogi, you are the only one who makes the argument that one side is always right and the other always wrong. I have told you many times that I don't always agree with Obama or the way some democrats vote. Apparently you can't get that through your soft-headed half brain. It's been explained to you many times why Obama is not a usurper but you can't seem to comprehend that either. You're no constitutional scholar!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 11:16

I don't aways agree with Obama and the dems but I'll take them over the crazy idiots on the right any day!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 11:17

Nemo, bud is giving cows a bad name.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/7/13 at 11:45

bud gives anything a bad name or taste. LOL

By: yogiman on 6/7/13 at 11:53

You must have used a language I didn't understand, B2. Mind repeating it one more time in English and explain how a man born in Kenya whose father was a British subject was a natural born American citizen?

By: budlight on 6/7/13 at 12:29

Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 10:28
You can't access TCP? I guess you tried....LOL! And I can see how the irony of hating the government yet getting a paycheck from them goes over your head

No I have not tried. I transmit to the Philly office every night and they can tell what I've done or not done in a day, including getting on to net. I have a home computer and a personal laptop. Why would I use a gov-ment computer? No logic to that.

And regarding your "irony" statement, I guess you can't see the irony in losing your retirement investment and only having a social security retirement check (yet). So if I work for the government, it's one way of getting a "refund" honestly - ie, working for it. AND my job has quotas and goals to reach and in the past I've always reached them Scale of 1 to 5, my scores are always 4 and 5. I didn't get fired from the Census, I resigned after a guy put a gun to my head when I was doing my job. Fortunately he didn't shoot me. And he's blessed that he did not have any previous record in the entire US and because of that I refused to testify so the charges were dropped and he can't have guns anymore. Honestly I felt sorry for him and his wife. They lived in a relatively high crime area and he was just being crazy that day.

So any money I get from the gov-ment, I have put into the coffer (social security retirement) or I currently work for. And my job is not a piece of cake. It can be difficult. Last week a 6'2" 200 lb. guy demanded I "erase" all my cases from the computer. I was afraid he was going to smash the computer, but he finally calmed down and I left - Shaking like a leaf, but determined not to let him discourage me.

So you can judge me all you want to, but remember, you really don't know me. And quite frankly, I don't care who you are or what you think. I know myself and I, unlike others on this post, like myself. I don't need your or anyone else's approval.

So be mean spirited some more, will you? It just encourages me to never give up. I'd rather give a cow a bad name, than to give the human race a bad name as with you and nemo and others.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/7/13 at 12:38

yogi, Obama was born in Hawaii and that makes him a natural born citizen. It doesn't matter if his father was a British subject. There's all the proof in the world that he was born in HI - only conspiracy nuts can't see that. You may not like the way the Constitutional scholars have defined "natural born citizen" but they have more knowledge about such things than you. You get fooled by every damn conspiracy out there because you're too dumb to realize it's not true.

bud, we all work hard. It's not like you are the only one that has a hard job. You've acted like a prime bitch on this board so don't act like everyone is mean to poor little you. If you can dish it out you can be a big girl and take it too. The fact that you can't is one reason people laugh at you. That and you're a blithering idiot that contradicts herself on a weekly basis.

By: dargent7 on 6/7/13 at 12:47

With the Internet, facebook, Twitter, iPhones, ipads, Kindles...there is NO "privacy" any longer in America.
Everyone I know, see, hear..is on-line.
Everything is in/on the airways and can get picked up.
btw....Obama was/ is in San Jose' yesterday and today. At The Fairmont.
Streets cordoned off, Secret Service everywhere, bomb squad, SWAT Teams, rapellers, snipers on roof tops, bus stops cxl'd, helicopters, rail systems stopped for bomb sniffing dogs to check out.....Has 4 limos , all identical, for him to travel in to the nearest Trader Joe's.
Yeah, yogi, he's an usurper....
About 99% of Law Enforcement is in action, right now, and the Secret Service think he's somebody.
If you came to town, nobody would give a shit.
He's very tall and skinny. And from what I can see, appears to be black, too.

By: budlight on 6/7/13 at 12:51

And you blanket have acted like a prime bioch so don't be so holier than thou. And you are a blithering idiot also. My you sure are judgmental. So I'll just throw your trash back at 'cha.

I don't think I am "poor little me" -- but you think you are big cat on campus. You are smarter and better than anyone -- so you think and say.

Contradiction is OK. It's not a crime. And I never SAID I was the only one with a hard job. You said that I said it. When someone disagrees with you, you, you call them names and run them down. But you're too blind and thick headed to understand that you do that. But then you think you're perfect, so that explains it. I know I'm flawed and imperfect. I'm perfectly willing to admit my own faults. And you?
