Up for Debate: Romney looks forward, Gingrich looks deep

Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 1:00am

Mitt Romney, following primary wins Tuesday night, turned his attention squarely toward defeating President Barack Obama this fall. Newt Gingrich told CNN that he would need to take a "deep look at what we are doing" before going on. As Romney and Obama square off, what lines of attack will come out of each camp? What are the strengths and weaknesses of both? Whose camp is better suited for the battle ahead?

Yesterday BenDover said:
"To my knowledge, also, I'm the only one who points out that the TARP spending to banks that everyone was outraged about under Bush has been repaid with interest..."

According to this morning's WSJ:
"Christy Romero, special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, said 351 small banks with some $15 billion in outstanding TARP loans face a "significant challenge" in raising new funds to repay the government."

Oops, little Bennie.

I cannot think of a more disgusting individual in the W.H. than Gingrich and his whore wife. A 6 year affair between the two of them during the time Gingrich was going after Clinton for a simple 2 time sexual daliance. That was between his 30 ethics violations, I'm suprised he found the time to cheat on his wife who had cancer.
Say what you will about Obama, he's a great dad and honest family man.
Romney is too weird and phony to be president.

Good morning, Nashville.

The only reason that Newt is still in it is because of the strings-attached generosity of Sheldon Adelson's Super PAC. Sheldon is the casino tycoon who has already bet some 15 million on the Newt.....a rabid Zionist, Adelson is looking to install his personal puppet in the White House, so that his beloved Israel, the nuclear scofflaw state, can continue to thumb its nose at the rest of humanity....isn't that special?

Mitt Romney has visited Israel several times and he pledges to visit the Jewish State in Palestine as his first official visit as the US Pres.

Once Newt drops out, all of Adelson's dirty money will go to supporting Mitt.....this is the era of the Super- PACs and the Israel-firsters have quickly seized this opportunity to purchase a POTUS on the cheap.

Obama is having a bit of trouble raising cash at the rate he did in 2008....folks are wise to his reneging ways....his base is not enthused....if influential American Jews, like Sheldon Adelson, Mort Zuckerman and Ed Koch continue to support the Republicans, BHO will be a one-termer.

By: Loner on 4/25/12 at 4:44

Amen, Darge, Newt and his slut wife are disgusting human beings...that's a prerequisite for membership in the GOP hi-rollers club.

Ummm, Ben will point out that 15 Bn is a tiny fraction of the total package and that these banks are outliers, not representative of most banks. You better beef up your argument...Ben is an ideologue, he is able to rationalize just about anything, so you may be wasting your time in arguing with him on that topic.

I have a question for the august group of TCP nutz: Who are the Phoenix Coyotes?
Can anyone name a single player?
Last time I was in Phoenix it was 120 degrees. There's an ice rink somewhere?

By: dargent7 on 4/25/12 at 5:01

Ben and "yogi" are two sides of the same coin. Sid Vicious is also in there.
I miss "House"'s sarcasm, Funditto's, and Big Mama's big, well you know. Rhymes with scooter.

By: Ummm... on 4/25/12 at 5:02

Loner, I have no doubt that you have called Ben's argument correctly. However, the truth remains that what he said was factually incorrect. After all, you're either right or you're wrong- which was he?

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 5:10

Shane Doan. Been on the team since they moved to the desert, Darge. Don't underestimate them, they are a mirror-image of the Preds. Could easily go 7 and have multiple 1-0 OT games.

It's April...let's wait until at least summer to start discussing election strategy...too many intangibles...

By: dargent7 on 4/25/12 at 5:17

Romney is THE Republican candidate.
Gingrich, Paul, Sanitarium are side shows/ ego-trips at this point.
Romney is focusing on, "it's the economy, stupid" routine which other candidates used.
It's his strong suit, his only suit.
I just hope he has plently of "Magic Underware" available to him if he gets keys to the Oval Office.
I wonder if Ann, wives, wear two sets of clothes too?
I'd highly advise everyone to read up on Momonism, The Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints.
These people make Scientologists and Hare Krishnas look positively sane. Even Baptists.

By: govskeptic on 4/25/12 at 5:52

The side show of Gingrich and Santorium have been over for a long time.
As to reading up on Mormonism one might also check out the Black
Nationalism which is both a political and religion as well. Or one can
catch a sermon on the subject from Rev. Wright in Nashville this
week. It's not only the economy, but the entire direction of our ever
evolving "entitled" mentality of far too many citizens!

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 5:54

Ben has well formulated arguments that are sometimes based on theory, not fact. Honestly, not so different than most of us.

Yesterday he was harping again about how Obama-fear caused the market crash in 2008, which is just plain wrong, and completely minimizes the events that actually led to the collapse.

By: dargent7 on 4/25/12 at 5:58

Can I see a show of hands who think Mitt Romney and his Mormon religion (cult) belongs in the W.H.?
Two sets of underware? Really?
Take his $250. million and buy a baseball team.

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 6:05

I can't think of anyone who belongs in the White House. To say that the current generation of politicians are devoid of quality leadership is an understatement.

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 6:05

Romney may be leading the ticket right now, but he has been shown recently supporting Marco Rubio on a couple of tickets and it has been mentioned of his possibly picking Rubio as his VP running mate.

If he does, that would place him in the same boat with Barack Obama because Rubio is no more constitutionally eligible than Obama and it's highly questionable if Obama is even an American citizen.

By: Kosh III on 4/25/12 at 6:07

"I'd highly advise everyone to read up on Momonism, The Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints."

The Utah branch of Mormonism believes in multiple gods, that god came down in person and knocked up Mary, that Jesus was married with children, there are 3 levels of heaven and we can progressively work our way into salvation eventually becoming a god and getting our own planet; and other beliefs which are at odds with traditional Christianity.

By: Kosh III on 4/25/12 at 6:09

Romney will do to the country what he did at Bain Capital: take public money, lay off thousands of ordinary people and accrue personal wealth for himself and his corporate masters. His election will be the bane of the country.

By: dargent7 on 4/25/12 at 6:09

G W. Bush was the owner of the Texas Rangers. A shitty baseball team.
Obama was a "community organizer" in Chicago who was self-made.
Bush drew the USA into two worthless, bankrupting wars. Accomplishing nothing.
Obama got bin Laden and Gadaffi.
And jerk-offs in America want to disparage Obama.
There's no comparison between these two men.
Romney is a fraud, a fake, and nuts.

By: dargent7 on 4/25/12 at 6:18

K-3: I visited the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints in LaJolla, CA about 18 years ago when it was built on Interste I-5.
They chose that spot to "show off" to the world. The Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz has nothing on this place.
These people are crazy.
Their baptismal is the size of a Olympic sized swimming pool, with 12 full size bronze oxen holding it up.
Then, there's the "Celestial Staircase" where one goes up to marry your wife for, "eternity".
Magic Underware, Magic Eyeglasses...we want this guy in the Oval Office with a nuclear warhear's Red switch aimed at Russia or Iran?
I think, personally, he's the Anti-Christ depicted in The Bible.
Worse than G W Bush.

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 6:26

Well, Kosh III,

I believe if Romney is a bane to the country he will have to agree to take second place because I'll have to say Barry Soetoro was a solid bane to this nation.

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 6:28

I'd have to agree with yogi on Rubio. The same irrational people who have a problem with Obama will have a problem with him.

By: treehugger7 on 4/25/12 at 6:30

Yes, the women wear the magic underwear as well..

By: Funditto on 4/25/12 at 6:35

Wait. Last time I was here, the wing nuts were calling Romney "Mittens." Have they had a change of heart? How will these he-men embrace this "girly man?" Can't wait to find out!

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 6:35

dargent7,

It looks like you're judging another man's religion based on your thoughts, yet you so willingly accept Barack Obama's religion even though you don't know any more about it than you do Romney's. If you can honestly call Mitt Romney a fraud because of his religion or business capability, why can't you call Barry Soetoro (a.k.a. Barack Obama) a fraud for usurping the office he is not eligible for and knows nothing about how to operate a business?

By: dargent7 on 4/25/12 at 6:39

Were can I get some of this 'Magic Underware"? Ross, Dress For Less?
God knows my boxer shorts ain't makin' it.

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 6:39

yet you so willingly accept Barack Obama's religion even though you don't know any more about it than you do Romney's.

Um...Darge was raised Christian, if I'm not mistaken, so why wouldn't he know?

Oh...that's right...Obama's a Muslim...lol

By: Kosh III on 4/25/12 at 6:43

Dar
The baptismal font is taken straight from the Bible where it was called a "sea."
I Kings 7:23ff NRSV
"Then he made the molten sea; it was round, ten cubits from brim to brim, and five cubits high. A line of thirty cubits would encircle it completely. Under its brim were panels all around it, each of ten cubits, surrounding the sea; there were two rows of panels, cast when it was cast. It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; the sea was set on them. The hindquarters of each were toward the inside. Its thickness was a handbreadth; its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily; it held two thousand baths."

A bath would be about 2 gallons so it held 4000 gallons.
The Revelation to John mentions a "sea" before the heavenly throne.
---
btw, I know the Temple you mean, they paid 26 million cash for that building.

By: Kosh III on 4/25/12 at 6:46

I know quite a bit about the President's religion. He is a member of the United Church of Christ, a denomination which I once attended for about a year.
It's pretty standard Christianity.

However, the only sacred text a President must heed is the Constitution: if a person's religion disagrees with the Constitution then the religious opinion must be disregarded.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/25/12 at 6:52

I am a staunch Republican but given a choice between Barack Hussein Obama and Newt Gingrich, I yield to socialism versus outright disregard for the intelligence of the public.

It really does not matter since there are so many people whose only chance at the good life is to have Obama take money from the productive, innovative and creative class and make distributions of free stuff to his voters.

I have spent the last three years planning my escape from the clutches of Barack Hussein Obama. There will obviously be some loss of net worth and income to this man but not nearly as much as he and his leeches expect.

By: treehugger7 on 4/25/12 at 6:53

Darg, you can google mormon underwear, and even buy some. I would assume that the Ross in Utah may carry it...everyone needs a "garment". Doesn't look very comfortable, though...

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 6:55

Rasp, you do realize that taxes have not changed since Bush? Obama's extended the tax cuts and they've also extended the payroll tax cut. There has been no tax reform and the debt deal did not include any tax revenue increases.

If you've lost net worth, blame the market. My 401K actually did quite well last quarter...

By: Rasputin72 on 4/25/12 at 6:56

By the way, the only way this country is going to survive is for somebody to balance the budget and to understand that this means unemployment at the 15% level for 3 to 5 years.

This is not going to happen of course until such time as the economy collapses and we have 25 to 30% unemployment.

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 7:01

gdiafante,

If Obama isn't a Muslim, why did he admit he is? Check out

www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwhKuunp8D8&feature=player_embedded

What do you think about it?

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 7:01

It's practically impossible to balance the budget, and why would you try in the middle of a recession?

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 7:04

I don't think much about it, yogi...

I've been to the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, NY, birthplace of the LDS church. Check it out:

http://www.hillcumorah.org/Pageant/

I am convinced that the religion is based upon Profound Bullshit.

As for the magic underwear, here it is:

http://dekerivers.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/mormon_underwear.jpg?w=600

Notice the extra-large genital sack area for the males of the species.

I lived among Mormons in Idaho for 4 years....it's a clannish deal...insider trading & dealing...us versus them.....draft dodgers, but war mongers.

I hate to stereotype an entire religion, but, if Mitt is devout, we got trouble...if he is a "Jack Mormon", things are not quite as frightening.

Here's a nice photo for your wallpaper:

Rasputin72,

I'm afraid we're about to go into a worse depression than the 1930s and even though he's in the middle of it, it isn't just Obama's fault.

The fact we have a much larger population today and the people are living a much lighter kind of life today than back then, it's gonna be like living in hell.

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 7:14

gdiafante,

Why did Barry change his faith to Christian when George Stephanopolous "corrected" him?

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 7:16

It was clearly illustrated in the scopes article, yogi. Do you need me to read it to you, grandpa?

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 7:19

Loner,

Aren't all religions based on BS except yours? Why do all people see their personal faith as the right one?

Why do so many refuse to be a guest to your church but are willing for you to be a guest to theirs?

It all boils down to person belief: I'm right and y'all are wrong. Come on to my church.

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 7:23

It looks like we saw that little "show" differently, gdiafante. I saw Barry make a comment about John McCain not mentioning his Muslim faith and George corrected him to "Christian" and he quickly changed his comment to Christian.

Did he really become a Christian that fast?

By: frodo on 4/25/12 at 7:25

Clearly, Mr. Obama is best suited for the campaign ahead. He rallies a coalition of the passionate clueless, the "I'm a victim and you should have to pay" crowd, the "fairness means you pay even more and I still pay no taxes" chorus, the interests of America's enemies (he has a lock on the Al Qaeda/Russian/Chinese vote), the news reporters who are insanely eager for socialism to sweep through and end free press and those who are hopelessly drunk on debt--all marching to the tune of Chicago street fighters.

That will be hard to beat.

By: BenDover on 4/25/12 at 7:28

I normally qualify that by saying 'largely' paid back with interest. $15B out of about $450B... whatever ummm. A whopping 3.3% is still outstanding. The question is where the hell did they spend the other $400+ billion?

When that should have offset some of these huge deficits, what Obama and Co did was compound them.

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 7:29

That's because you have pre-conceived opinions about him, which lend to your unwillingness to believe anything but the negative.

Me, I don't care if he's Muslim or Christian. There is no religious test for the office, nor should there be. This nation was predicated on the maxim that people are free to worship as they please and who they please.

You should know this, Mr. Constitution...

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 7:33

And yes, this would apply to Romney as well...

By: Rasputin72 on 4/25/12 at 7:43

Gdiafante, I suspicion from your ability to read and comprehend that you have very little net worth. You continue to read into almost every post what you want to comprehend versus what is actually written.

That is okay, because you people are now the majority.

By: slacker on 4/25/12 at 7:46

Perennial candidates, on both sides, are always around to muck things up.
Newt ran, as did Santorum, in an attempt to become relevant again in the Republicain party. Both have heavy campaign debt, and want their debt paid, before coming back to the reservation.

Newt & Rick, will now start a first draft on their new books: ''Life on the campaign trail''
''Why negative ads are ok if I run them.''

By: yogiman on 4/25/12 at 7:49

If you will note, gdiafante, I have not mentioned Obama's religion except when it has been mentioned on this site. The only objection I have mentioned is his illegality of that office.

Can you explain where they changed that natural born citizen status to a foreign citizen who used to be a native born citizen but became a naturalized citizen to get their American citizenship back?

That is considering if he ever was an American citizen and if he applied for American citizenship from his Indonesian citizenship.

By: Ummm... on 4/25/12 at 7:50

Rasputin wrote:

Where do you start with a post like this one? "I suspicion???" That begins the sentence that attempts to denigrate gd's reading and comprehension skill and, incomprehensibly, his net worth. WTF?

We should all be ecstatic if the gds of the world ARE now the majority rather than idiots like Rasputin.

By: gdiafante on 4/25/12 at 7:51

Rasp, if you're going to pretend to be "above" everyone else, at least use proper grammar. Otherwise, you just come across as a wannabe.
