Up for Debate: Sandy's impact

Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 12:55am

One of the worst storms in the nation's history has hit the Northeast. Post your reactions to the destruction, the impact (both short-term and long-term) and the response? And while politics seem very trivial at such a time, the country is still in the last week of an election. How might Sandy affect the election?

If bud had a thought of her own, instead some hand-me-down FOX crap, she then would have nothing.

Expect more extreme winters thanks to global warming, say scientists

And here's my question: If there are hundreds of thousands of these windmills all over the land, what do you think that wind stirring up will do the the atmosphere?

Now you all are saying "global climate change". What happened to "global warming". Tell West VA about that joke.

I hope you are getting paid to seem so dumb...I suppose you mean wind turbines, which, by the way, don't generate wind.

And...you do realize that global warming means that the average global temperature is rising. This does not mean that it will not get cold and snow ever again.

Jeez....

Apparently the distinction between climate and weather is lost on these idiots....

She is not getting paid for being stupid gdia, she is doing it for free.

But then what you expect from people who worship at the alter of ignorance.....

By: pswindle on 10/30/12 at 9:31

Yogi,
President Obama has sent Fema and money to every needed placed and that includes Texas. You have to read something besides the GOP Blogs. Have you heard of the total lie by Romney? He said that the Jeep company is packing up and moving to China, but the truth is that they are hiring about 1000 more people in Ohio. Romney read a GOP Blog and repeated as the truth. I, as many watched Sandy move into for destruction, and I applaud The President and Governors of each state for being on top of this situation.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 9:32

Hay freaky bud, how many hurricanes can you count that make a sharp left turn into the northeast?

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 9:38

Just (flush) pswindell when you see a yogi post. It saves time for you in reading a stupid yogi post.

Loner was BuddY named after bud or was she named after BuddY?

By: Mike Burch on 10/30/12 at 9:54

Bishop Romney said it is "immoral" to borrow money to help flood victims, but he wants to borrow $7 trillion in order to give $5 trillion in tax cuts (primarily to the rich) and $2 trillion to the Pentagon for weapons it doesn't need and hasn't requested (so that Romney can get votes in Virginia and steal the election).

When a man puts his election above the lives of disaster victims and 47% of the public, he doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher, much less president.

By: jvh2b on 10/30/12 at 9:57

Wow...bud thinking that wind turbines that turn BECAUSE of wind, somehow thinking that they GENERATE the wind....

Think that may be the dumbest comment of the week right there...which is quite an accomplishment considering we have yogi on this board...

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 9:59

Where is the monarch troll, now that his three subjects have wobbled onto the scene and made there ludicrous complaints. Is he still curled asleep under his bridge?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 10:02

jvh, the week is still young.

By: yogiman on 10/30/12 at 10:04

Hey, brrrrk,

Can you explain the difference between climate and weather? Thanks.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 10:06

What do you expect from the troll monkey jvh2b, an intellectual observation? Her thoughts comes from the posted hand-outs from FOX News yellow puddles of waste.

pswindle,

Was Romney misquoting Fiat in saying they was moving Jeep overseas?

Have you ever read the Constitution, pswindle? You should all read the Constitution and maybe you could explain where "Barack Obama" became eligible for the White House.

Every man I have known has changed their minds on many different decisions; except Barack Obama. Can you name one he has admitted he was wrong over?

Mike,

Can you explain why Barry developed his "inside" army? Can you explain why the government is buying so many million rounds of open holed ammunition? Are you ready for martial law?

Ah, don't worry, Barry isn't going worry about taking over, unless he's called to action by American loving citizens.

What's old is new again

Chicago II 3rd Movement...

Hey, everybody
Won't you just look around?
Can't anybody see
Just what's going down?

Can't you take the time?
Just to feel, just to feel what is real
If you do, then you'll see that we got a raw deal
They're killin' everybody, they're killin' me and you
The fightin' and killin' everybody, I wish it weren't true

They say we got to make war
Or the economy will fall
But if we don't stop
We won't be around no more

They're ruining this world
For you and me
The big heads of state
Won't let us be free

They made the rules once
But it didn't turn out
Now we must try again
Before they kill us off

By: yogiman on 10/30/12 at 10:35

Well, jvh2b,

What makes a wind turbine rotate? Could it be the same thing that makes a water turbine rotate?

Or do you just hook it up to electricity to make it rotate to generate more electricity?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 10:36

jvh, I told you the week was young. :)

By: gdiafante on 10/30/12 at 10:40

lol blanket...if we can ever generate power from dead space, the trolls would supply enough energy to power Earth for thousands of years...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 10:41

LOL, you got that right, g!

By: yogiman on 10/30/12 at 10:42

Can any of you Obama fans explain why a young black American made the comments he made about Obama being in office? His argument was if he was white, he wouldn't be.

By putting him in office even though he isn't Constitutionally eligible is racism and he has shown racism since the day he went in.

I still find it astounding how ignorant some people can be. To not understand basic, simple things, like wind turbines...the Constitution...basic grammar...

It does indicate that education in this country is, well, lacking.

By: brrrrk on 10/30/12 at 10:45

Geez, can't an old cracker catch a break around here?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 10:46

g, I believe it's called "willful ignorance."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 10:49

Willful ignorance is the state and practice of ignoring any sensory input that appears to contradict one’s inner model of reality. At heart, it is almost certainly driven by confirmation bias.

It differs from the standard definition of “ignorance“ — which just means that one is unaware of something — in that willfully ignorant people are fully aware of facts, resources and sources, but refuse to acknowledge them. Indeed, calling someone "ignorant" shouldn’t really be a pejorative, but intentional and willful ignorance is an entirely different matter. In practice though, the word "ignorance" has often come to mean "willfull ignorance", and indeed, in many non-English languages, the word based on the same stem actually mean "willfull ignorance".

Depending on the nature and strength of an individual’s pre-existing beliefs, willful ignorance can manifest itself in different ways. The practice can entail completely disregarding established facts, evidence and/or reasonable opinions if they fail to meet one’s expectations. Often excuses will be made, stating that the source is unreliable, that the experiment was flawed or the opinion is too biased. More often than not this is simple circular reasoning; “I cannot agree with that source because it is untrustworthy because it disagrees with me”.

In other cases, slightly more extreme cases, willful ignorance can involve outright refusal to read, hear or study in any way anything that does not conform to the person’s worldview. With regard to oneself, this can ever extend to fake locked-in syndrome with complete unresponsiveness. Or with regard to others, to outright censorship of the material from others.

Andy: Ernest T, you're not stupid, you're just ignorant.

Ernest T: That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever said to me......

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 11:30

Blanket, I think a shorter definition of willfully ignorance would be a Pedigree Dumb-ass

By: jvh2b on 10/30/12 at 11:31

You weren't kidding Blanket....I may have spoke too soon.

I think $ht for brains would be a compliment at this point...wth??????

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 11:32

Yep to both.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 11:34

No jvh2b fetal matter would be smarter.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/30/12 at 11:42

I thought BenDover would be calling this hurricane Junk Science by now. The Liberal Media is blowing this out of proportion just for ratings or a political trick to get Obama elected, for another term. LOL

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/30/12 at 11:46

"blowing this out of proportion."

That's punny! LOL

By: jvh2b on 10/30/12 at 12:06

If nothing else Capt at least it serves a useful function...more than I can say for our trolls....

By: yogiman on 10/30/12 at 12:36

Your 1149 post was well wrote, B2. What did you say?

By: yogiman on 10/30/12 at 12:42

B2,

You hit the nail on the head in your remark about "willful ignorance" because your and your fellow posters are showing your willful ignorance from your acceptance of Master usurper as your president.
