What do you make of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's defense of past comments he has made on homosexuality and its morality?
Oh, the irony........
Broadcasting live from San Jose', CA....
Someone should of told me it was freakin' COLD in the Bay area....hen I left nashville, it was 90 degrees.
Morning lows are 45....highs of 65. 10 degrees above normal, Al Gore notwithstanding.
FYI...I have NO medical insurance and my hernia activated 3 days after I arrived.
I admitted myself to the only hospital that takes ER patients.
Get this: the 1st ER visit was $8,050. for 4 hours of blood work and an MRI plus 3 X-Rays.
I went back for the operation a week later and the bill is $88,900.....
The county knocked the ER visit down to $20.00 and the whole operation down to $100.
I was in the OR for 2 hours and the ICU for 4 days. They wanted me to stay for a week, but hospital food is horrible and the nurses were homely.
So, I owe only $120.00 out of almost a hundred grand.
And idiotic Republicans say America doesn't need Obamacare !!
The idiots over at The Tennessean yammer the ER's are for "medical care" and it's a piece of cake. Can you imagine the bill for a LifeFlight helicopter ride to Vanderbilt with a gunshot wound or in an car accident? I was DRIVEN to the ER. An ambulance would of added another grand.
Anyway...Aloha Loner, Nemo, Gd, and Nazi.
Wow, glad you're ok, dargent.
Nazi: Nothing beats a catheter at 2:30am. (in you know what).
The head nurse said, "The Dr. says you need to void"...."NOW!"
Ever pee on-demand? At 2:30am? I wasn't even drinking!
Anyway...it was an eye-opening experience.
Yeah, that doesn't sound so fun. :-(
D7, are you saying that you had around $94,000 plus in medical bills? No insurance? And yet you are paying pennies out of pocket?
And is that Obamacare?
Or is it just what is going on pre-Obamacare?
If that is not Obamacare, then I'd say you got a good deal. I don't know which hospital you went to, but when I went to ER in Williamson County, they did an awesome job. I had regular physician visit; told physician my symptoms; he stated "you need to go to ER right now". They have a "fast track" er system and I was in a room having ultra sound (looking for DVD) within less than 20 minutes. It was awesome. And waiting room was not overly packed, but relatively full.
Glad you are OK.
Blanket, did he have Obamacare or pre-Obamacare?
Kosh, I never said I was being harmed?
Opinion is the basis of the social structure of any culture. Those with majority opinions usually rule. Unless of course, they are invaded by the likes of Hitler - sort of hit up-side the head with a 2x4. You know, he told them what they wanted to hear and they did not listen.
What would you have done Kosh if you were being loaded into a train going to hell only knows where? What would you have done Kosh?
Would you have stood up for your rights then? Well in America no one has to worry about those scenarios. It will never happen. Unless we turn ourselves over to a culture of people who actually take pleasure in killing homosexuals, adulterers, women who don't mind their men. And I am not speaking of rednecks. I won't mention the name of the group. You figure it out.
I don't hate gay people. Turning my opinion into gay bashing is on your side. Not mine.
bud, that sounds like something specific to the county in which he lives. It's not a national thing. dargent, how were you able to get the hospital to negotiate?
It sounds like it might have been covered by MediCal.
Why should Scalia recuse himself from an issue for making a comment when a woman (excuse me, young lady) Barry put on the "bench" refused to recuse herself on the first issue that was brought up right after she "went to work" on an issue she had been involved from the beginning?
Should she hear that case because she already knew so much about it by being involved in it before it was brought before the court?
I guess it depends on who's doing the thinking, doesn't it?
Blanket - What is MediCal?
Hi d7 - Hope you are OK now.
OOPS Blanket - Guess I pulled a you-know-who, so before you tell me to look it up, I'll just do that. LOL
I didn't negotiate.
This is California, after all.
While in the ICU after the 2 hour operation in the OR, they had all these financial people come by and tell me, "since you have NO insurance, you qualify for "charity" and other financial assistence programs provided by the state...."
I asked about 15 Drs. and nurses, "What is it costing me to stay here...?" "What does a MDI cost?" What dos an X-Ray cost?" No ONE had a clue. They just all said, "it's covered".
Anyone think 4 hours in the ER would cost over $8,000.?
And, when I asked for a itemized bill they said, "You don't need one, it's all covered..."
My point is this is why the health care system in America needs an overhauling.
My $98,000 bill was reduced to $120.00....who's going to pay for the difference?
And idiotic Republicans say we don't need any changes to health care in America......?
Just heard from a Michigan political pundit that the Republican controlled Michigan legislature is attempting to now push through a bill that would make it almost impossible to recall any law...... thus solidifying their recently passed right to work law. And the right has the balls to called Democrats communists and dictators?!?!
Bud: The care here, in Santa Clara County, was top-notch.
The ER Drs. told me I need surgery THEN and NOW, or my intestines could explode and I'd die before I got a ride home. That's what Drs. do: CUT!
I had only been in San Jose for 2 days and never been to a hospital before, so I was freaked out.
I had to sign about 100 pages of documents and get a psych consult to leave w/o the operation. ( I told them I was from Detroit, so they threw me out).
I'm not trying to dramatize the situation except to say medical care in America IS free....but you will be billed thousands.
Think of all the illegals who's kid needs an appendectomy or toncillectomy...and gets a bill for $10,000....My 1st bill was for over $8 grand and they didn't even take anything out.
MediCal is specific to California. It provides care for people who are low income, unemployed or have no insurance. Before Obamacare some states were trying to figure out how to handle the healthcare problems on a state level.
One big problem with healthcare is that in the U.S. it's considered a "privilege" to get healthcare rather than a necessity. That's why it's allowed to be a for profit business instead of a non-profit or government run business. So a large percentage of our population does not receive necessary healthcare, especially on a preventive level. So, when they get REALLY sick and end up in the ER the costs are passed on to the taxpayor. It's sort of like taking care of your car. If you pay for tune ups it's less expensive than waiting until your car dies before addressing any issues. It costs less to maintain than to ignore it until it's too late. Unfortunately, that is how the U.S. addresses healthcare.
brrrrk: But, the Lions beat the Packers and Ohio State is banned from all bowl games, even with a 12 and 0 record.
The MI mayor is still on trial for 80,000 licentious e-mails and the prior Governor is one beauty.
And Romney and his faux wife LOST.
So, all is ok with Michigan....
Obamacare will cost less than waiting until people end up in the ER. Obamacare also recoups some of its administrative costs by pursuing fraud more diligently. Between that and hopefully getting closer to a single payer option, healthcare will start to operate at a more sane level.
That MDI should of been a "MRI".
Anyone had one of those?
It's a cross between a ride at Disneyland, the atomic bomb at Nagasaki, and a NASA g force simulator.
I think they're $3,800. a pop. A sessions lasts 15 minutes.
Let me explain one more thing about how pricing works. dargent had a $98,000 bill due to his ER visit and stay in the ICU. Think of the $98K as the "Manufacturer's Retail Price." Now, we all know that we usually don't pay that price. For example, let's say Insurance Company #1 agrees to pay 70% of it for their enrollees, Insurance Company #2 agrees to pay 65% for their enrollees and Insurance Company #3 will pay 75% for theirs. Each patient will be paying a different rate according to their insurance company. The difference is written off. So, in this case, MediCal will probably pay a percentage (which comes from the tax payers) then the rest is written off.
d7 - You left out the guy with the jack hammer in the MRI.:-)
You should run for Congress.
Barbara Boxer and Diane Fienstein out here in happy valley are so smart, intelligent.
Not like the imbiciles in Tenn....Corker, et al.
dargent, I had an MRI once but I was unconscious at the time. Too bad I slept through it - lol!
dargent, don't wish such awful things on me! LOL
Actually, it's a computer voice that comes on and tells you to "STOP Breathing".
I noticed the machines are built by GE.
They can't produce decent tv programing, hopefully the 1,000 watts of radiation I was exposed to is beneficial.
BN-2: I was fully awake during my MRI.
I was unconscious during sex on my honeymoon, however.
It's 4:20 here.
d7 - The MRI machines I have seen here are built by Phillips. My daughter in Atlanta has a friend that works on them & that is the same electronics that builds TVs. Guess they kinda go hand-n-hand.
Darge...good thing that you went to a state that covered your @ss on the medical bills...hope you are feeling better...I had two inguinal hernias repaired surgically....no fun.
Once you've had inguinal hernias repaired surgically, one can honestly say that they are wearing their nylon on the inside....they put a nylon mesh in there to keep your guts out of your nutsack....apparently, Homo sapiens has not quite fully adapted to walking upright... gravity, aging and lifting strains tend to hamper the bipedal locomotion idea over the long haul.
Darge, check into the medical Cannabis in California...after what you have been through, a good buzz is in order....I'll take your roaches...put 'em in a doggie bag and Fed-Ex it to me.
One should not sit on the Supreme Court without an open mind.
It's 4:20 in Nashville, Tennessee.....Merry Christmas, Willie Nelson....and you too, Senator Colbert.
And to all a good night!
