Up for Debate: School board takes stand against vouchers

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11:37pm

Do you agree with the Metro Nashville Board of Education’s unanimous approval of a resolution urging state lawmakers to reject school voucher legislation expected to come up again at the next General Assembly?

One can only suspect the School Boards in the 4 largest cities
feel they might be losing control of a large chunk of taxpayer
money they have enjoyed spending for so long!

Who knows what's the best solution might be? The facts are
what has been in place for 20+ years has been dismal failure!

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 5:21

I don't really care.
But, I'm anxiously awating "Mr. Usurpation" to tie this issue with Obama's "usurping" of the office of US President.

By: bfra on 10/26/11 at 5:41

d7 - He must be having problems finding a comment he can copy & paste, without giving credit to the one that made the comment.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 5:56

bfra: What America boils down to, is what you and I posted yesterday:
Either you are fooled thru an inert lack of brains that Iraq was the appropriate, proper, necessary country to bomb, destroy, invade, occupy in retaliation for 9/11... OR.... you know Bush, Cheney & Co. knowingly invaded the joint for the oil reserves and knew America is SO dumb, they'd fall for the scam, hook, line, and sinker...on dry land.
Americans can't do fractions, and 15 of the 19 hijackers being from Saudi Arabia, as well as bin Laden himself, would seem like a no-brainer. It's way beyond pathetic.
Beyond psychotic.
Bush was too dumb to know it, but Lon "Dracula" Cheney knew we'd fall for it.
And 45% of America still believes Saddam H. was behind 9/11.
We, as a Nation, deserve this karma we have: broke, no rudder, no direction, no way home.

Enjoy the show.

Surprise, surprise,

I believe we now have three dumba..es on this site instead of just one. Is there more to go?

bfra, can you tell me where I read the comment I made? You can seem to make an accusation but you can't seem to identify you argument.

I asked you for that knowledge yesterday but never got your answer. Don't you have one? You seem to know how to make one even if you don't know what you are "taking" about.

Have a great day, dumba..2.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:07

No I don't agree with any Union-controlled bunch of dirty socialists who try to stifle competition so's to continue their mediocre-at-best levels of performance.

Open up the closed shops for competitive schooling.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:10

Oh, much more interesting news: Occupy Oakland dirty socialists were evicted from their squalid Plaza so the place could be cleaned of 'debris and defecate'; they decided to 'down-twinkles' the police, who responded with tear gas, bean bags, wooden dowels and for good measure carted off over 100 of the little twerps to 'Occupy' jail. Then they closed the Plaza.

To which I respond: UP TWINKLES~!

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 6:12

"Dirty Socialists"?
Robe wearing and worn sandals?
You mean Jesus Christ, the Apostles and the 12 Disciples?

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:12

United States little prezzidint-man responds...

"Never let a crisis go to waste, man! That's my key moocher voting bloc! I'll 'community organize' the hell out of those stupid kids, and coast right into 2013 victorious, so's M'Chelle can get in some more taxpayer-funded VACAY~!!"

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 6:15

Since you have entered the roll as dumba..2, how about explaining how the state school board is compared to the usurpation of the Oval Office.

And, honestly, with all of the posters on this site who believe Barack Obama is in that office legally either honestly don't know the laws of our land or don't give a damn about them.

Even if Obama received the majority of the votes from so many idiots, he still could not be legally elected to that office. Why? Simply put, if you ain't legally eligible to run, you can't win the election.

Now, if any of you have positive, absolute evidence Barry Soetoro (going by the name of Barack Obama) if legally eligible for that office, I would sure like to know it. It would sure save me a lot of time and effort trying to explain the obvious evidence to a bunch of constitutionally ignorant people on this site.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:16

That was more a cult, d7. And since we're speaking of Jesus, show me in a red-letter edition of any bible where he commanded "Rome" to take care of the poor, in any way, shape or form (also, in our Constitution, where are we supposed to take care of dirty socialist punks who want to live cocooned by Big Government, and for free?).

He told 'individuals' to feed the poor, not 'government'. Sorry, you can't get away from that command just by paying your taxes.

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 6:19

Wonder if Loner was on that bus ride to jail, serr8d? He might have more fun there.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:24

A photo collage of the 'Occupy Oakland' dirty-socialist-bashing by our California police forces.

Good job, really. Sent 'em packing.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:28

Oakland is a hot-bed of LeftLibProgg angst, located in California's Bay area, next to San Francisco. Mr. Loner is in Rochester, New York, where you'd think more sensible people lived.

But, it is in New York; and any city that's that close to that overpopulated hive of human debris that is NYC has to be badly influenced by it's proximity.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 6:29

Sir-8: Reference Jesus', Sermon on the Mount and The Beatitudes.
I seem to remember a parable about Him feeding 5,000 people with 2 fishes and 1 loaf of bread.
The early template for FoodStamps?
And Right Guard was invented as yet so they all stunk up the place.

By: Kosh III on 10/26/11 at 6:30

"also, in our Constitution, where are we supposed to take care of...."

How about in the first sentence? "promote the general Welfare,"

ser has no problem shoveling special rights and privilges to a "person" provided it has "Inc." after it's name but to actually have our country act like an authentic Christian and "tend the sick...give rest to the weary, soothe the suffering" or "take care of widows and orphans" or "to the poor....proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed"
Not a chance. He's got his, and everyone else can go get fraked.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:31

Oh, d7, extra credit! if you can find at any time where the TEA Party rioted in the streets, bringing out waves of tear gas and bean bags.

And where even ONE TEA Partier was arrested ?

By: Kosh III on 10/26/11 at 6:33

"human debris"

More compassionate conservatism. Funny how the right always goes on about freedom but only if it's THEIR freedom; anyone different is unworthy. That's a very un-American value but the right celebrates their hatred of the rest of Christ's family.
"We are all God's children" St. Paul Acts 16

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:34

General Welfare 'promotion' is not the same as 'guaranteeing', Kosh b'gosh. We are not expected to take care of our Citizens from cradle to grave.

Becoming so spoiled, as we are, is one reason this little Republic is in such dire straits. Do you recall the Great Depression? People made it through that, without so much Government help (unless you count WWII).

Hey, that's what we need! Another World War, so we can draft these 'Occupy' losers, and use them as cannon fodder! Get them off the streets, give 'em three hots and a cot and a gun and send 'em to Korea or Vietnam or...CHINA~

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:36

Yes, lazy, disrespectful, expectant, dirty socialists who are also little more than human scum and debris.

You don't see good people out there begging for Communism to come and save them, that's for sure.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 6:39

Sir-8: The Tea Party, Birthers, Townies are 99% WHITE.
The local Police don't use water hoses, tear gas, and dogs on WHITE people.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:50

The Occupy Wall Street Movement Sure Is White

Remember when the media was obsessed with how many minority members attended Tea Parties?

While Samuel L. Jackson is calling the Tea Party racist, the Daily Caller reports that #OccupyWallStreet is desperate to attract minorities.

Will the media report that the #OccupyWallStreet protesters are as white as Joe Biden’s hair plugs?

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 6:51

Seems dirty socialists come in all colors and fonts, d7.

Try again.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 7:02

It's really a toss-up, actually a tie, who posts the weirdest.
Sir-8, when told Jesus didn't bathe often, was of Armenian descent, wore dirty laundry, and gave public speeches about "collectivism" and "social good", he scafaws, recoils, and insists in still shooting blanks.
Yogi, well, is just clueless.
Yes. A dead heat.

By: jvh2b on 10/26/11 at 7:03

Yogi - you could be transported back in time to see the man being born in Hawaii and you would claim time travel is a commie plot and still not believe it. You hate the man so passionately you can't just disagree w/ his politics, you have to try and say he's not eligible for office.

Being rational left your vocabulary a long time ago. Admitting it would be an excellent first step.

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 7:04

When did fishes become the plural of fish, dargent7? What pond did you catch them in?

By: Kosh III on 10/26/11 at 7:17

ser calls other of God's children "scum and debris."

I'd imagine ser would be quite eager to do what is normally done with trash: put it in the incenerator.

That's a lot easier than "love one another" and "do good, one to another."

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 7:19

You are right, and you are wrong. Yes, I do hate the man for the crime he has committed and is continuing to commit. And no, I can't agree with his policies because he does not have the legal authority to issue his policies on the nation. And no, I don't really like the man because I cannot like a person committing the crime he is committing. Sorry, I can't admire him as you obviously do.

And no, he is not legally eligible for that office. If he is, why hasn't he shown his actual birth certificate instead of the obvious fakes?

May I repeat one more time, prove he is legally eligible and I'll shut my mouth. And when I say prove, I mean just that. Prove beyond any reasonable doubt. Don't try it with a bunch of fake papers.

By: artsmart on 10/26/11 at 7:21

A per usual the Board is worried only about itself and Bransford. Why would you not want competition if you are doing a good job. Isn't educating children the most important thing?

By: jvh2b on 10/26/11 at 7:24

Well yogi apparently out of the entire legislative branch and judicial branches both (mind you w/ the latter being a majority of Republican appointees) YOU are the only one who feels the documents are a forgery.

Again, it wouldn't matter what proof he put forth, you would call it a fake because you have bought into the giant conspiracy theory hook line and sinker. It is and always will be a Catch 22 with you.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 7:27

yogi: It really doesn't garner sympathy any more whether you have one hemisphere left or not.
You're bullshit about the President has crossed the line into psychosis.
Don't believe me?
Tell your thoughts and ideas to any psychiatrist at Vanderbilt.
Alien space ships, tin foil hats, and hearing voices is more sane in comparison.

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 7:30

You're right, WWII pulled the nation out of the depression. FDR threw many programs into the pot trying to bring the nation out of it. Non of them worked.

Our nation got on its downhill side of communism in 1913 when the Federal Reserve act and the 17th Amendment was passed.

Before the 17th Amendment was passed the states' legislatures appointed the Senators to represent the states. When that amendment was passed it took the power away from the states. And the career senators have been running for re-election ever since.

The 17th Amendment need to be repealed.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 7:31

I think Perry brought up the "birther" issue again.
When you're sinking in the polls, you become desperate.
"I'm not saying he was born in Africa, just askin'....".
This hillbilly from TX thinks he can become President?

By: Loner on 10/26/11 at 7:44

Good morning, Nashville.

The voucher idea is an end run around the separation of church and state concept. No more to it than that.

With a voucher system, the taxpayers pick up the tab for white supremacist's religious education. As we all know, Tennessee is a very godly state.

Born-again Christianity is eyeball-rolling heretical Judaism practiced by bigoted gentiles....taxpayers should not be asked to finance such filthy crap.

Rochester, NY is over 350 miles from New York City; we are in Western NY. NYC is as far South and East as one can go in NY state. We have a different dialect up here...Great Lakes English....in the Big Apple, they speak with a New England-New Jersey accent. Different core values as well....demographics are different too.

Ended up protesting solo yesterday...my Albion cohorts lasted one day. I may go to Rochester today for their daily 4-6 protest at the Liberty Pole....more people and more exposure. Albion is just a little too far out there...("Deliverance" theme music here).

I see where Pastor Serr8d is explaining how Jesus, the Christ, was an armed, right-wing, militant Zionist who showed His contempt for the lazy poor and preached a gospel of admiration for capitalist fat cats and the military-industrial complex. That's heretical heresy, folks, Serr8d bears false witness for Christ.

By: dargent7 on 10/26/11 at 7:48

L'ner: Count your blessings you don't live here.
Most backward, racist, in denial state I ever had the misfortune to frequent.
On my way to Key Largo, FL soon.
Hopefully, I'll meet a better class of people.

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 7:50

The Portland Examiner questions 'JustiaGate'; not 'birther', but t'other question.

And, d7, an avowed dirty socialist who 'came up' hanging and disrobing with the far-Left and the radical maniac-bombers, parented by a for-reals African Communist and a confuzzled hippie-chick can become the littlest prezzidint-man; since that's the case (thanks! Democrats) then ANYONE from ANYWHERE can now assume the Executive Office!

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 7:52

Yes, Loner, the Christ was a Jew.

Get over it, if you can!

By: serr8d on 10/26/11 at 7:53

d7, there's this swinging door, see, and for one I hope it slaps your backside so hard you wind up in Cuba.

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 7:55

Let me make a FEW points about this whole damn issue, children. Let's presume Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, as he claims. Then why did he tell a group of young people he was born in Kenya?. Why did he tell George Stephenopolus? he was a Muslim? Why did his wife tell a group of women (on TV) they went to Africa to visit his homeland of Kenya? Where is your homeland? Mine is Tennessee.

When his mother divorced his father and married Lolo Soetoro from Indonesia, who adopted him so he could go to school in Indonesia, because they would not accept a child who was not an Indonesian citizen, what happened to his American citizenship?

What passport did he use to enter Pakistan when Pakistan would not accept a US citizen's passport?

Let's presume he was born in Hawaii. With a father who was a product of the British Empire, the most citizenship he could have gained would be dual-citizenship. And if he was born in Kenya like he told those students, by the laws of 1961, his 18 year old mother could not pass any American citizenship on to him. He would be a subject of the British Empire.

So, may I ask one more time: What is he hiding? How many of you posters on this site would refuse to prove your eligibility to run for a political office?

The biggest question again, children: Why did congress allow it to happen? Why did they question John McCain but did not question Barack Obama. Why was John McCain so willing to be questioned but Barack Obama refused to be questioned? And why did congress not insist he go through the same routine John McCain went through?

Any of you have the answers? I'd sure like to know them. Just be prepared to verify them, not just post them.

By: Loner on 10/26/11 at 7:57

Gov. Perry took the Birther page from Trump's discredited playbook and he's taken a page out of the Pie-man's playbook - the flat tax canard. So bereft of his own ideas, the Niggerhead Mountain boy is stealing ideas from his fellow losers...how pathetic is that?

And the Gov is OK with Confederate flag license plates....Perry's racism is no longer under the radar.

Darge, are you moving to Key Largo permanently? I have a place to crash in Big Pine Key...I might head down there this Winter. Ever hear of the Long-haired Ranch? I have friends there.

By: LizzyD on 10/26/11 at 8:06

yogiman on 10/26/11 at 8:04, asked:

"When did fishes become the plural of fish, dargent7? What pond did you catch them in?"

The following illustrates the hazards of thinking you know everything.

"The plural deers is listed in some dictionaries.[7] As a general rule, game or other animals are often referred to in the singular for the plural in a sporting context: "He shot six brace of pheasant", "Carruthers bagged a dozen tiger last year", whereas in another context such as zoology or tourism the regular plural would be used. Similarly, nearly all kinds of fish have no separate plural form (though there are exceptions -- such as rays, sharks or lampreys). And the word "fish" itself is also troublesome, being generally used as a plural when in the context of food, but forming a regular plural otherwise (thus "three lots of fish and chips", "the industry landed 5,200 tonnes of fish in 1998" but "the order of fishes", "the miracle of the loaves and fishes", the phrase "sleep with the fishes"). The usage does vary, however, so that for example the phrase "five fish in an aquarium" might to another native user be "five fishes in an aquarium". Using the plural form fish could imply many individual fish(es) of the same species while fishes could imply many individual fish(es) of differing species."

By: Loner on 10/26/11 at 8:12

Give it rest, Yogi...the president is legit...it's like a wedding...those who object to the union are asked to speak out before the vows are consecrated, or forever hold their peace.

Same thing here, IMO, after the Inauguration ceremony, it is too late to bring this crap up. Just hold your tongue, man, the time to speak out is long gone. The GOP's best and brightest vetted the man, if they had anything on him, as you allege, it would have come out years ago.

And Yes, Christ was a Jew, Serr8d, a heretical Jew who paid the going price for preaching Judaic heresy..the Jews still consider the man's message to be a heretical one....The Messiah was never supposed to be Divine; worshiping Jesus is idolatry, according to Jewish beliefs.....and your point is?

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 8:19

Thanks, LizzyD,

I'll quit using my collegiate dictionary and rely on the wikipedia. I hope they have become so accurate they won't have to change their definitions any more. I've only know of fish my entire life.

I'll admit, I wasn't raised in y'all's time frame. We didn't know what fishes were back then. We thought they were all fish.

By: Loner on 10/26/11 at 8:22

Sounds fishy, Lizzy.

Latin-based English words have similar issues when forming plurals...adding an "s" or an "es" to the singular form is often acceptable, but it grates on us Latin lovers...the plural of "anus" in Latin, is "ani", for example...but when we refer to folks like Yogi and Bud, we use the term "anuses".

Some words use the Latin plurals e.g. "data", is the plural of "datum". "Minutiae" is the plural of "minutia"....etc. This lack of rhyme or reason is partly why English is so difficult for foreigners to master.

By: yogiman on 10/26/11 at 8:22

Since you think the man is legit, please convince me. Tell me where you got your evidence. I'd be glad to look it up and accept it if its an absolute fact. If it isn't. I'm gonna keep on going my way.

L'ner: Yes. Permanently.
I don't want to go back to Maui and FL is very close to this trash heap called Tenn.
I was thinking Key West, but Key Largo appears to be a better fit and more like Maui.
Any help (info, women, cash) would be appreciated.
I've never been south of Ft. Lauderdale during "Spring Break" while in college.
The Keys seem pretty cool.
I'm now on Facebook, so we can communicate there.
Too many clinically insane people on this bored.

Good luck, Darge...I have one female contact in Big Pine Key...she gave me a card that will act as a gate pass at the Long-haired Ranch....they vet newcomers, if you don't measure up...you're out, according to my female friend...she's a Brushwood gal too.

You can still post on this site, Darge, physical location is now quite irrelevant...it's a global village, baby!

Barack Obama:
Born Honolulu, Hawai'i, 1964 (or so).
Attended Punahou High School.
Lived in Indonesia.
Attended Occidential College, then Columbia, then Harvard.
Full professor while at Harvard, teaching US Constitutional law.
Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Then became a US Senator from Illinois.
Then, elected President of the United States.
I agree, very lousey resume, (obviously a slacker) but I think somewhere along the line, he'd be "outted" as a foreign National, undocumented alien, or illegal alien.
But, "yogi" who has a 6th grade education, know's better and we have to listen to his garbage daily....
