Up for Debate: Skinny dippin' lawmakers

Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 12:11am

What do you make of reports that U.S. lawmakers took a late-night plunge in the Sea of Galilee last year while in Israel? Is it an embarrassment to our country, a security risk for our Congress members or an innocent romp?

It's not hard to see 1 in 3 undecided, slack. I'd be surprised if a third of voters find either candidate attractive and are likely waiting to see the debates.

If these two jokers are the best we can do, we're ****ed.

"Abortion is pure and simple, murder..." Really?
So, God provides miscarriages, and is that a homicide?
A fetus developing with a heart outside the chest cavity, a spinal cord outside the backbone, a brain outside the skull/cranium...the mother should have the bundle of joy?
Incest, rape, genetic deformaties...all God's will and plan?
Teapublicanism is a disease with no known cure.

When we were pregnant with the first child, the doctor screened for abnormalities, etc. Said that we had the option of ending the pregnancy if something came up, like Downs. I asked her if that was common...for people to terminate a pregnancy if there was something wrong like that, she said yes.

This is America's dirty little secret...no one likes to talk about it, but it's done...a lot. And it's not limited to a certain side of the aisle (which is getting pathetic how everything has to be labeled either right or left).

And it really goes back to the fact that it's a medical procedure and no one has the right over a woman's body but the woman. Period.

So much for being "focused like a laser" on jobs.

Kosh if one has not really improved the "jobs" situation, then one will want to divert attention to such nonsense as skinny dipping or mis-statements.

By the way, there is a report on line giving the data about women who are raped actually getting pregnant. Just google "How many rapes lead to pregnancy" and the numbers are quite low. And they factor in date rape as well as unreported rapes and statutory rape. All rape is bad; all incest is bad. And the report states that sometimes the women do not want an abortion because of the actual "rape" but because of the lack of support by the family and/or community for her wanting to have the child. So pressure from the community and lack of family support is the reason for wanting to abort.

In a perfect world there would be no rape, no abortion and no politicians!

On another note, what is the difference between the Taliban and the idiot Aiken from Missouri. Are we now planning to "stone women to death" if the rape is deemed to be illegitimate (whatever that means). This Tea Nut party is really wacked out big time.

Romney's cult- religion only baptizes people AFTER they're dead.

That is better than the Catholics method of asking forgiveness every time your sin. This way you can sin all your life, then after you die someone wipes your slat clean.

Regarding the "numbers are quite low" for pregnancies due to rape....5% seems like a low percentage. In actual numbers, that's over 30,000 women annually. Maybe that seems low - unless you are one of the 30,000.....

Well, since US politicians have been helping Israel strip Palestinians, Bedouins and other non-Jews of their land, water, homes, rights and freedom ... it seems appropriate for US politicians to crash the party naked.

"illegitimate" is not the right word. There are some reported rapes that are not legitimate. In other words, the person is lying. It does happen, you know.

And if you were a billionaire, would you do all you could to save money on paying taxes? Just saying. The tax laws are there. If it were illegal to put money in overseas banks, why does the US allow it? And when you do your taxes do you say: Gee, let me see if I can pay the MAXIMUM tax? Or do you do all you can to get your tax billl lower? Just saying!

By: Captain Nemo on 8/21/12 at 12:23

The billionaires believe that well fare is for the rich only. Just saying.

By: Moonglow1 on 8/21/12 at 12:26

Moonglow1: Hey Bud, the Romney types can hire lobbyists to change laws. Of course his 23 off shore accounts are "legal. ". He & his billionaire friends make the laws (payoff politicians through lobbyists). This is the way it's done in the USA. Aren't you angry. I bet you pay a lot more than Romney who is already taxed at a low rate because he makes money not by earned income but through his dividends. It's ridiculous for a guy running for President to give the "finger" to the United States govt and its citizens with his 23 off shore accounts and tax deductions for the horse.

Also I prefer Yazoo over Bud Light although Bud Light is good for boiling shrimp.

Interesting, so if it's legal, then it's justifiable... even if it means harming someone else in the name of greed? Does that apply to abortions as well? After all, abortions (whatever your opinion may be) are legal.

By: gdiafante on 8/21/12 at 12:28

Notice that bud instantly comes to the defense of skirting the obligation to pay taxes and ignores the issue of removing mortgage home deductions...

The right has convinced dullards like Bud that billionaires should come before their own interests. Unbelievable.

And Bud, if a billionaire jumped off a bridge, would do it too? lol

By: Moonglow1 on 8/21/12 at 12:36

Moonglow1: Bud, thank you for the clarification regarding "legitimate" versus "illegitimate" rape. So to be clear, instead of The Palin Death Panels we shall be paying for Rape Panels whereupon women shall be brought forth to the panel whose members shall decide if the rape was legit or not and then call the hospital to perform the abortion or not. Ya gotta love the new Tea-inspired USA. Ah yes FREEDOM!!!

Here's a place in Seattle that proves it's possible to do the right thing and still be in business. It's a place called Dick's Drive-In; they've been around for 58 years and have a grand total of 6 locations.....

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 2:16

Good news - my new reddit shirt is on its way!

By: BenDover on 8/21/12 at 3:09

He has not been governing center-right.

This guy blew all the TARP repayments to the tune of about a half trillion dollars and then went on to run deficits $1.4+ trillion dollars a year compared to Bush's ~ $500 billion at the peak of our Iraq involvement and in the wake of Katrina.

Now he's championing the most divisive campaign based on class, race, sex, religious choice, sexual preference, et al... in the history of modern American politics.

Hope and Change has turned into Divide and Conquer... with a little Burn the Village thrown in for good measure.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 3:15

Investment spending is not the same as consumption spending - and remember, we are still paying interest on the war debt that was racked up. Both parties are running divisive campaigns, not just Obama. It's the GOP that has the "either your with us or against us" mentality.

By: BenDover on 8/21/12 at 3:25

Blanket... Bush's deficits were ridiculously high... Obama proceeded to triple them.

Triple... adding over 50% to the national debt in three and a half years pushing it up to almost $16 trillion dollars.

And for this Keynesian blow-out, for which our grand-children will suffer the hang-over, we still suffered over 8+% unemployment with the real number being over 15% if you consider how many people have left the workforce.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 3:27

If the GOP would cooperate in passing the jobs bill perhaps unemployment would lower! We've had nothing but an obstructionist party of NO mentality coming from the right then the right has the audacity to complain with nothing gets accomplished. And btw, the stimulus plan worked. I'll provide some data for you if you would like.

By: bfra on 8/21/12 at 3:32

Blanket - Ben thinks when Bush/Chaney left office, that was the end of their debt. HA! Obama didn't put our troops in either war, but Ben thinks, evidently, you can ring a bell & war is over. Another HA! Plus his TARP argument is so old & never held any reasoning from the first time he started harping, on TARP.

By: bfra on 8/21/12 at 3:35

Ben - What is the difference in being unemployed & leaving the work force?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 3:35

What gets me is that the 8 years of Bush's administration f-ed things up so bad then these guys have the nerve to complain when Obama can't wave a magic wand and make it all go away within a 4 year period - especially since they obstruct every single thing he or the Dems in congress do. They are intent on his failure at the cost of the American people.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/21/12 at 3:39

Case in point - Ryan supported Bush's stimulus plan and "Obamacare" is based on GOP initiatives going as far back as Nixon. But because Obama is the one pushing it through, it is suddenly a bad idea. BTW....Obamacare is based on the free market allowing competition between insurance companies. The Single Payor system would be more in-line with a "socialist" type healthcare program. In case you don't realize the difference.
