What do you think of the Southern governors block of Obamacare?

Considering the South is pretty much unanimously acknowledged as possessing the lowest statistics for health and the highest for obesity, the move seems a backhanded slap to the citizens in these states.

Sadder yet, the electorate voted these people into office and continue to elect them.

One day, hopefully, the people will open their eyes and see they are voting against their own best interests by backing the GOP.

From the Associated Press article:

"A South Carolina legislator put it bluntly earlier this year. State Rep. Kris Crawford told a business journal that he supports expansion, but said electoral math is the trump card. "It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now, especially for the Republican Party," he said."

I think that pretty much sums it up.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/1/13 at 6:15

Certainly a gallant effort by the Southern Governors. If one looks at the birthrate of the underclass , one can clearly see that the Governors position is much like "Custers last stand". It is just a matter of time before they are overwhelmed.

I remember being Johannesburg a few years ago. I took a brief tour of the one of the ghettos of that city . The car was a quasi version of an armored car. When asked what stood out most in my mind about the tour which I terminated far before my contracted time with the driver. I replied very quickly, "the lack of respect these people have for themselves."

Upward mobility starts with the determination to be better than your circumstances. I think Americans who go to Rio de Janiero for the next Olympics will get an eye opener ofwhat the United States will look like when the productive class can no longer carry the tax burden to support the underclass birthrate.

What was the reason for a new health program that will cost everyone more money than ever before? More doctors leaving the medical field because of more government control over their practice.

The biggest question of the issue is? Why is the federal government providing medical care for civilians by taking money from one group of citizens to give to the benefit of others?

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 7:29

Good morning, Nashville.

Schlepped over from the main article:

Here it is, in a Southern Nutshell:

A South Carolina legislator put it bluntly earlier this year. State Rep. Kris Crawford told a business journal that he supports expansion, but said electoral math is the trump card. "It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now, especially for the Republican Party," he said.

Nothing more than residual white supremacism in the Old Confederacy states....618,000 soldiers and sailors died in the Civil War, and the South still remains unrepentant, ignorant and filled with hate...they still blame the victims....the African Negro slaves.

Abe Lincoln screwed up...should have let the A-holes go their own way....they just do not get the idea that all men are created equal....they prefer rule by royal family aristocrats, as opposed to true Constitutional democracy....the South is not up to speed and probably never will be.....throw them out of the union of American States.

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 7:37

HoundDog...I did not read these comments before posting...I see that we both zeroed in on the most revealing quote offered.

Thank you, Kris Crawford, for the honest admission of the true motives behind this concerted Southern resistance to President Obama's policies.

There is no upper class in Rasputin. The boy is STONED out of his mind.

By: yogiman on 4/1/13 at 7:45

Everyone thinks for themselves, Loner. at least they should. But I' sure many are "followers" and will go down the road their leaders tell them to run on.

Slavery on one of the worst mistakes our founders permitted to happen, but the slave owners were very few in the nation and history shows there was also white slaves and black slave owners. So who's to blame for what?

I believe you will find political parties created the past slavery hatreds, not individuals.

By: Kosh III on 4/1/13 at 7:48

Single-payer health care is the most effective and most financially efficient system. Countries with single-payer have a much healthier populace: UK, Sweden, Israel, Australia just to name a few.

But the alleged "fiscal conservatives" won't ever consider this because their corporate masters forbid it.

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 7:58

Yogi...read the Confederate Constitution...here is a link to it:

"African Negro Slavery" is clearly mentioned; so is the term "African Negro Slaves"....this is the smoking gun...the smoking cannon....the right to own African Negro Slaves was the "states right" that triggered the Great Secession and the bloody war that followed.

Southern revisionist historians try to deny the truth, but the CSA's Constitution is what the white boys were fighting for...the secession and war were NOT about tariffs and taxes....the secession and war were clearly and unequivocally about the right to own African Negro Slaves....there was NO glory in the Southern Cause...never was, never will be.

Yogi, no African Negro ever owned any white slaves in the Old South....please prove me wrong on that, if you can.

A few African Negro slaves may have owned other African Negro slaves, but that would be an extremely rare case...the claim that blacks owned other blacks in the ante-bellum South could be just another Southern myth.

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 8:05

Kosh...amen to that...Israel has a first-class health-care system...cradle to grave coverage....the Jewish Israelis have a very high standard of living, Arab Israelis less so, but all share in the healthcare benefits.

Maybe Israel ought to be sending us the Foreign Aid checks, not the other way around.

GOP politicians point to the shared values between Israel and the USA, but when it comes to health care for the citizens, the Republicans share nothing with the Israelis..... shared values there. But, when it comes to killing and military hegemony, they are like conjoined twins...those dark values are shared.

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 8:07

s/h/b: ... when it comes to health care for the citizens, the Republicans share nothing with the Israelis..... NO shared values there.

A few weeks ago David Levin, the headmaster of City of London School, articulated this same concern at the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses' Conference, where he warned of the dangers of inner-city segregation in schools. What is more, he felt that 'London is sleepwalking towards Johannesburg.'

Despite the doom-filled voices of the habitual naysayers and professional grievance merchants, I genuinely believe that people of colour have much to celebrate in Britain.
Thankfully, we do not have the pernicious legacy of slavery as in America or the barbaric inhumanity of the South African apartheid regime. Britain’s high level of mixed-race relationships is, on one level at least, a testament to a much more liberal and open-minded state of affairs.

Health Care
Decades of apartheid have left a legacy of substandard health conditions in Johannesburg's black townships, where the incidence of infant mortality is significantly higher than that for the city's white communities, and tuberculosis remains endemic.

The biggest lie in the annals of human history has to be "All men are created equal"

The proper phrase should have been "All men should have equal opportunity"

The problem with the equal opportunity phrase is "all men are not created equal"

By: yogiman on 4/1/13 at 8:29

Loner,

I don't keep a file on everything I read about history, but in my past, I read where a black man was the first slave owner in America... in essence, a black man started slavery in America. And no, I can't quote where I read that.

But history is a thing of the past and should be remembered and used as a guide for the future but I'm afraid not many see it as a guide to their future.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/1/13 at 8:34

That is true Raspy old boy. You come from substandard martial.

Remember I know who and what you are.

By: Kosh III on 4/1/13 at 8:39

Slavery started when DUTCH traders brought African slaves to lily-white Jamestown colonists. The Virginia slave law of 1705 said that slaves were people from non-Christian countries.

By: budlight on 4/1/13 at 8:46

If someone opposes Obama's policies, such as myself, they are labeled a racist by the liberals who do not care about anyone but themselves. I do not want the government telling me how, when, why and where I can receive healthcare. It is not their job or their business.

Michele Obama eats like a king and then dictates what children can eat in school. Now the kids are refusing to eat the crap she has gotten mandated. They are bringing their food from home and she has turned some of them into criminals. They are selling their food to other students for a high profit - like a black market. Oops! did that appear racist? Black market? Also, some day we won't be able to refer to the bottom line in accounting as being in the "black" or having a deficite as "being in the red". What's the world coming to?

And Yogi, Muslims still own slaves. Also, if the first slaves were bought in Africa, who sold them? Must have been their african brothers and sisters. But who knows for sure?

By: Rasputin72 on 4/1/13 at 8:50

NEMO......I have no problem whatsoever with you announcing and posting my name.

I myself find that person reprehensible. Anyone that you think is of a lower caste than you must be a trash bag of the lowest order.

I will cast the first stone if you make the name public

My guess is that you are a liar or that person does not exist.

One of the benefits for your group of ner do wells is that you open the door for exposing this person.

The name you choose should appear today. Go ahead and make up one. Ypu do not have anything other than home equity (if that) I would not worry about a lawsuit.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/1/13 at 8:52

No bud, I don’t think you are a racist for not wanting Obamacare. I just consider you silly. My thought of you being a racist comes from other remarks you have made over time.

According to history, budlight (at least what I read in my youth), there was many villages (towns) in Africa. They constantly fought each other and the winner would take their opponent's men as slaves... and began selling them to other tribes.

When the Dutch started buying them and wound up taking them to America; that is history, so now let's look into our future. If not for yourself, your heirs of the future.

That is what took place in European History, yogi. Vikings raids took salves. The Greek and Romans took slaves and so on.

When you stop making excuses of our past, then you might just see how the rest of the world sees us.

Just think that TN could have tried Obamacare free for three years, and if it was successful, could keep it by paying only 90% there after. I don' understand it, it was a win-win for TN. Haslam is dreaming if he thinks hat he can take federal money for private insurance. That is what we have now, and look how that is turning out; more money, less care. How many times as the insurance companies turn you down for needed care?

By: Jughead on 4/1/13 at 9:18

Why do people think they are entitled to free health care?

By: Jughead on 4/1/13 at 9:18

Very hard to compare a Health care plan for this diversified country of 320+ million
to that of Israel, Sweden or others that have fewer residents than many of our
states, not even considering the geography of size which also matters.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/1/13 at 9:37

I would think that if you were to multiply by 320+ million, you would have the answer, gov.

By: yogiman on 4/1/13 at 9:45

Rasputin72,

It's pretty obvious none of us was around when our founders were in the process of creating and building this nation and, of course, none of us can comprehend what they were thinking back then or for whatever reason.

I believe it was the plantation owners that bought slaves. And the history books I read in my childhood showed [some] slave owners let slaves they bought (in essence) work their way out of slavery. And many of them didn't want to leave the plantation they were on so they became sharecroppers.

So let's look into our future now. How many of you want to go back into slavery in a communist nation with a dictator in charge?

By: Jughead on 4/1/13 at 9:49

Health care is gonna suck in 20 years. Going to the hospital will be like going to a DMV center---apathetic gov't paid slugs filling out forms. MD's who are not the brightest bulbs.

Obama lovers wanted it, and they will get it. Free crappy health care.

By: gdiafante on 4/1/13 at 10:16

Yeah, ask someone who doesn't have insurance now health care is now, jug. In fact, as someone who has insurance. Either way, it sucks.

Oh, and FYI: Obamacare is not free government health care, not even close. Nor are we very close to getting a single-payer system.

I can solve the deficit problem. Tax stupidity and hysteria. There's plenty of that going around.

By: BigPapa on 4/1/13 at 10:56

ps
You arent very bright are you?

If some millionaire told you that you can live in their big mansion for free for 3 years, but after that they'd only pay 90% of the note and up keep, all you need to do is pay the remaining 10%. If 10% is still more than you could possibly EVER afford it's a bad deal.

The Fed deal would have us dis-enrolling people 3 yrs from now. In case you were asleep TN just had to do that a few years ago under Phil B. and it is NOT easy. Toss in a few attorneys and advocacy groups and that 10% could go on for years and years before they are off the rolls.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/1/13 at 11:01

I wonder if our underclass in this country has ever taken a moment to thank the greatest generation for their "free stuff". If Hitler had conquered the British and the United States I would imagine that he would have solved the underclass problem as expediently as he solved
the imaginary jewish problem.

The immigration problem from Central America would not exist today.

Now in all liklihood he would have created some problems that the productive class as well
as the underclass should be grateful that do not exist.

Now, I cannot imagine what those problems would be, but no doubt they would be very onerous.

By: bfra on 4/1/13 at 11:08

Raspy as part of the lower class, you would have the answers to all your questions if you just considered your own situation, instead of trying to worry about people that are much better off than yourself. Jealousy, greed & envy are not good!

By: BenDover on 4/1/13 at 11:16

We tried this same crap with TennCare and it about bankrupted the state even with the state paying a minority portion; before Bredesen reformed it. It's still a huge disproportionate burden to state taxpayers.

Need an excuse for laying out of work and a free ride to the liquor store (beside the hospital)? Dial 911.

Then compare it to the UK and France which each have around 65 million or Germany with 86 million. They do it quite well and geography has little bearing. It works fine in Australia which is almost as large as the US.

Let's not forget Canada. I have several friends who live in Canada and they have no complaints.... other than the usual complaints that exist for most health care systems. Their biggest problem is in providing health care in rural areas, but that's a challenge for any health care system.

Lets also not forget that most of the countries mentioned above still have private for profit health care insurance.... but most of them deal exclusively with providing supplemental coverage for things like single rooms, better meals, etc,; things not associated with primary care.

Ever consider that it wasn't so much a problem with the program, but more a problem with like minded people that chose to take advantage of something at the expense of others who really need the service. Why else would some programs work in some states and not others?

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 12:49

Back on the board...looks like Yogi & Bud are still carrying the torch for the Old Confederacy, blaming everyone but the Southern whites for creating an evil system that was doomed to collapse....they blame the Dutch!

If these two represent the views of millions of Southerners, then "Southern education" is an oxymoron. The Texas School Board's far-reaching influence has dumbed down and bullshat the Southern students...the dumbazzes blame the Dutch and the African Negro Slaves for their collective Southern discomfort.

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 12:52

Single-payer systems cannot work if the population is too small; I have never heard that a nation can be too large, too big or too populated for a single payer system to function properly....sounds like more right-wing BS.

By: Jughead on 4/1/13 at 12:59

Obamacare will be another mismanaged, bloated, gov't cesspool that will be populated mostly with freeloading blacks and white trash.

But, those freeloaders vote, so voila!! Amerika....welfare capital of the world!

By: Kosh III on 4/1/13 at 1:19

"Single-payer systems cannot work if the population is too small"

Sorry o great Lone one. Iceland has universal health care and it's population is only 319,000. Slovenia is 2.5 million.

By: BigPapa on 4/1/13 at 2:44

At one point with TennCare you had 15% of the covered accounting for 80+% of the cost.
You cant take in enough tax money to ever cover it.

By: brrrrk on 4/1/13 at 3:03

BigPapa said

But at it's core, that's the way that all insurance companies operate, private or public. Payments made for those who need services are routinely funded by those currently paying premiums. If 50% of all drivers had an accident today every insurance company in the country would go under. That's why you see some go under when forced to deal with catastrophic events. The problem is not in how insurance companies operate, it's how they are managed.... and particularly how money is wasted.

By: Loner on 4/1/13 at 3:24

Kosh...I was thinking in absolute terms...actuarial tables, probability projections, extrapolation and statistical analysis only work if the sample size is large enough...otherwise outliers can skew the results...the bigger the sample, the more accurate, in my view.
