Up for debate: The State Fair

Monday, February 11, 2013 at 5:48pm

The Tennessee State Fair is the subject of wrangling between Metro and the state. The newly appointed state board has told the Metro Fair Board that it must offer a lease to the state's appointed non-profit. The Metro board has asked for more money. Who's right?

You read his posts every day, right? He himself said this morning that it is his focus to promote class warfare.

Opinions are simply opinions, B2, but facts are facts. If Rubio is being set up by the GOP to run in 2016, you can kiss the USA goodbye. Rubio is no more eligible than Barry for that office because he was 4 years old before his parents became naturalized citizens. Simply being born here doesn't make you a natural born citizen.

That could explain why they never questioned Obama in 2007 when the "entered the race" and changed his birth place from Kenya to Hawaii.

Rubio?

By: bfra on 2/14/13 at 10:08

Blanket - I don't see how anyone could read Raspy's comments & not come to that conclusion, unless they are very gullible.

As far as I see it, Ben, the perceived "anti-Conservative" slant is karma. Liberals have been continuously demonized since the Clinton era, and especially so after 9/11. Contribute it to the advent of Conservative talk radio, with such prizes as Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, etc.

What comes around goes around. I'd rather see everyone get along, but honestly, I'm human, and I remember having to defend myself from being called a traitor because I opposed Iraq.

So, excuse me if I relish a little at you and your ilk's fall from grace. And, if I do say so, it's quite justified and long overdue.

A good laugh by using the truth posted by Roger O'Donald on 2/13/13.

"Mr. President, Umgawa!

"The State of the Union speech last night reminded me of a speech made by an African politician to a remote native village. The village elder arranged fro a group meeting on a hillside at the edge of the village, and introduced the politician to the group.

"The politician started with his assessment of the situation with an "Isn't it awful" list of things that needed to be accomplished. Next, he started down the list, outlining government programs that would fix each problem and bring prosperity to the country including them. As he finished describing his first fix, some in the crown shouted "Umgawa." As he finished his second promise, more people shouted "Umgawa." He was on a roll. By the end of his speech, everyone was shouting "Umgawa, Umgawa, Umgawa."

"The village elder asked his guest if he would like a village tour when the politician spotted a strange animal in the forest that he had never seen before. The politician asked his host if the animal was a unicorn. The elder responded, "Yes, we grow them here." The politician asked, "Mind if I take a closer look?". The elder responded, "You may proceed as you wish, but be careful you do not step in the umgawa.""

So I think all of you citizens that are backing Obama the way they are should be awfully careful about where they "put their foot".

Ignorant is really standing out this AM!

By: BenDover on 2/14/13 at 10:31

Mindless drones are by far the majority of both movements, gd.

The mindless drones of the liberal movement are motivated by self interest and a mindset of injustice.

The mindless drones of the conservative movement hinges on ideology.

The intellectuals and leaders of the liberal movement are deluded by the promises and intentions of liberalism and ignore the unintended consequences and actual results of their well intended machinations.

Much of leadership of the conservative movement is motivated by greed, or at least the maintenance of what they have; some actually earned and some simply rationalized as earned or deserved.

The politicians on both sides are all political theater and are in it for their own immediate self interests.

By: yogiman on 2/14/13 at 10:35

Is that why you're posting so much; to expose your ignorance, bfra?

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 10:46

Wanker? You guys must be discussing Rasp.

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 10:47

nazi, didn't know that Rasp. is a ladies man.. I fail to see the charm.

By: gdiafante on 2/14/13 at 10:52

Well of course it's self interest, Ben, and I agree with your statement.

If there's one fallout from the ridiculous partisanship is that neither side can see the big picture and do things for the aggregate. But isn't that exactly what society demands? In a short attention span era, when we're accustomed to getting answers instantly, we can't seem to grasp the need for long-term solutions. Instead, we're obsessed with easing the pain right now.

You can blame the government, but I blame the direction of society as a whole. It's all relative.

I made it and checked in to the hotel.

I think Rubio got a bum deal the other night when his handlers put the bottle of water just out of his reach. Made him look foolish.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/14/13 at 11:04

slacker have you seen a picture of the real Rasputin? Ugly dude, but could charm his way into the heart of women and the Czar.

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 11:10

Nemo, yes I'm familiar with the ''Mad Monk''.. his charm was not with words.. if you know what I mean. lol

By: BenDover on 2/14/13 at 11:14

I hear they pickled his schlong...

By: BenDover on 2/14/13 at 11:18

Consideration of the Liberal intellectuals and leaders always brings me back to this quote:

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good
of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live
under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may
at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good
will torment us without end for they do so with the approval
of their own conscience."

C. S. Lewis

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 11:33

Ben, I heard that also. Gregory Diggler.. great grandfather of John Holmes. lol

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/14/13 at 11:41

They certainly removed it, Ben. They killed the guy several times over to make sure he was dead.

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 11:47

Yep.. Ben.. we've probably crossed the point of no return in this country.
The entitlements are unsustainable under present deductions.
Any austerity program would probably result in riots.
A culture war that gets worse everyday.
Illegal aliens dictating to congress how immigration will be revised.
Sending money, and troops to every outback on the Planet.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/14/13 at 11:49

I agree, slacker. It's worrisome.

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 11:56

nazi, I hear it will be on display at the Tennessee State Fair this year.
The pickled pecker is expected to draw huge crowds.
No discounted tickets for this special event.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/14/13 at 12:00

Well, that's one way to sell tickets. That should draw more than the pig races.

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 12:01

Czar to Czarina: ''are you feeling well dear? you've been walking funny lately''

By: slacker on 2/14/13 at 12:12

I know.. that's bad.. even for me.
No more ''shooters'' today.

By: bfra on 2/14/13 at 12:21

Somebody at the City Paper woke up and there is a new topic up. Not a very good one but at least it is different.

By: Loner on 2/14/13 at 12:29

Zombie Rasputin...in search of his lost пенис....the Mad Monk is the Russian Equivalent of the "Headless Horseman"....Zombie Rasputin, the Headless Holyman.....the Headless Hoseman....looking for his lost hose....coming to a theater near you!

A wooden stake does no good...garlic is ineffective....daylight does not deter Zombie Rasputin....same goes for holy-water and the crucifix...only Grey Poupon....or cheap gin... can save you....you leave it as a sop and then run like hell.

Blanket, the little boy has autism. Who knows really what was imbedded into his tiny, innocent mind. I hope he gets counseling along with his parents.

Did you happen to google Ben Carson's speech on youtube? Just curious.
