What perks should or shouldn't state lawmakers receive? Do they deserve all of the ones they get now?

Ben - I'm just suggesting the one scenario that would give you your Shanghai and Illustrating why there is no way in hell it'll ever happen because your 'deserts' demand driven and not whitey trying to oppress the brothers.
What in the Sam Hill are you ranting about? I don't have a Shanghai or any "deserts"!

By: bfra on 3/5/13 at 3:12

Ben - Or a Shangri La. either!

By: BenDover on 3/5/13 at 3:16

I presume if you decry 'food deserts' that you would like a remedy to the problem.

EBT limited to only unprocessed meats, veggies and fruits aught to do it.

Obesity being a leading indicator of poverty in Tennessee would be a thing of the past, right?

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 3:20

It's 4:20 up here in Shangrila, New York...the seat of Utopia County...the Hempire State.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 3:24

There's always a food oasis in every food desert...though food mirages do tend to bumfuzzle the uninitiated desert traveler. When in doubt, use your GPS, to be sure.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 3:31

The food desert dwellers survive on the fat stored in their humps....they don't need no steenking health food.

By: bfra on 3/5/13 at 3:33

Ben - You presume too much! I don't see obesity as being a leading indicator of poverty, either. If you have a problem with obesity, that is your problem. I have no problem with it, I do have empathy with people that do have that problem. Your short sighted limits on EBT will not solve the problem.

I eat to live, some live to eat...'twas ever thus.

By: bfra on 3/5/13 at 3:38

True Loner, very true! Has been that way forever.

By: dargent7 on 3/5/13 at 3:44

Well, Michael Blumberg had a billion in the bank...yet wanted to be NYC's Mayor.
Spent $200. million to get the office.
Many Senators/ Congressmen spend $100. million or more to get elected...and make only $180,00.
It's the power, people.

By: dargent7 on 3/5/13 at 4:00

For the record: EBT cards cannot be used for 'lottery tickets and malt liquor". Or cigarettes.
This mind-set is EXACTLY the de riguer of most elite Nashvillians.
ie., they don't know what they're talking about, factually.
Someone told them they saw a bum selling his Foodstamp card in an alley 10 years ago, so it mist be true.
Foodstamps cannot even buy "hot food" like a rotesserrie chicken at Krogers.
Makes NO sense. Food, is food.
The state should also allow pet food, soap, shampoo, and toothpaste....

By: bfra on 3/5/13 at 4:06

d7 - Have you ever known Ben to be accurate on his quirks? It is very apparent, he gets a (being nice) bee in his bonnet & goes off on an embellished rant. The embellishment being made up by Ben.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:08

Darge, I dare to say that most Republicans would probably support free food for dogs and/or cats, as opposed to free food for human beings.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:10

Slacker, are you out there? We need a good one-liner.

By: BenDover on 3/5/13 at 4:18

Someone please point out where I said the EBT card could be used for malt liquor or lottery tickets in Tennessee.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:20

Happy 4:20, Nashville Tennessee! It's peace, love, dove time. Flower Power. Kum-By-Yah....can't we all just get a bong?

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:24

Maybe I'm a little to the left...but I think that Food Stamps, EBT cards etc. should be used to buy local Cannabis and New York State wines...am I wrong to think that?

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:28

In my opinion: The state should buy every welfare recipient a couple of Lottery Tickets every month...if the welfare recipient hits the jackpot...he or she is permanently off the welfare rolls...in the long run this could actually save the state money....and make some nearly hopeless person's dream come true...great reality show material too...the follow-ups.

By: BenDover on 3/5/13 at 4:29

I'll go with that loner. I said I'm OK with Ho Ho's and Honey Buns too. The whole 'food desert' and obesity problem ain't gonna be solved though unless they crack down and tell Abdul at the Napier market he can't sell Cheetos to fat poor people though; so I'm just trying help the advocates here save the poor from themselves.

Your comment about the money spent on campaigns supports my claim, dargent7. There should be restrictions as to where you can accept campaign money. Only from American citizens should be allowed for the president's campaign, only citizens from the state the senators are running to represent and only from citizens of the district the representatives are going to represent.

Corporation executives should not be allowed to give their stock holders' money. No foreigners should be allowed to "donate" to a political race in the USA. Even China.

Mayor Bloomberg has the right idea...limit the serving size of the carbonated fountain drinks....for their own good...of course, "they" just refill the 16oz. cup and down a total of 32 oz while devouring that 11 1/2 inch "Foot Long" sub from Subway......(Burp!)

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:52

Twinkies are gone..long live Twinkie Wannabes....the scab alternative to the genuine article.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 4:57

Ben...take a Cheese Puff...the noodle type...and light it....hold it over an ash tray, use tongs....they burn with a smoky flame that mimics an oxy-acetylene torch flame, before you hit the oxygen...the same kind of black shit hangs in the air...they produce capital "C" Calories of heat.... one puff burns for a long time....and people eat bags and bags of them....the friggin' things are flammable!

By: yogiman on 3/5/13 at 4:58

I wonder if 'Bloomer' feeds himself like he says HIS New York common citizens should feed their bodies. I doubt it. He's special, he can eat any damn thing he wants.

One of his opponents should take a "out of the brush" photo of him stuffing his mouth.

By: Loner on 3/5/13 at 5:02

Mayor Bloomberg eats only Kosher foods, according to reports...they say that a Kosher diet is quite healthy.

Chavez is dead.

By: yogiman on 3/5/13 at 6:25

They're politicians, Loner, can you really believe them? He could even be drinking a six-pack or booze every evening.

By: dargent7 on 3/5/13 at 6:46

bfra: "Bee in his bonnet"?
More like a bug up his ass.
Yeah...Hugo Chavez died at 58.
Wait until Castro dies at 85 or 92. The sob will probably live until 95.
Everyone the USA hates will die off before we launch a full scale war in their territory.

Bend-O: At 2:19pm today. You know, one could go mental reading back your bullshit to you, ....you know, the shit you deny stating and posting.
Re-read; 2:19pm, eg.
You wrote it, posted it, you own it.
How was Hawai'i? I bet you actually went to Cleveland and thought you'd just say, 'It's almost the same as Hawai'i".

If perks and pay were based on performance, many members of the Tennessee General Assembly would OWE money to the government.
