Up for Debate: Theme park blues

Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 11:45pm

Metro Councilman James Bruce Stanley has dropped his effort to have the city consider a theme park be built at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. But with the issue back in the spotlight, does Davidson County need an amusement park?

Nashville is a growing city and a theme park would be a tourist attraction.

.... "sure the citizens of this country will get hoodwinked for a short period, but when things start to fall apart (as they are), they will quickly regain common sense."
I must say, that's a true statement, brrrrk. Many of the people of this country have been hoodwinked and It won't take much more time for the "guvmunt" to fall completely apart.
I hope you and your fellow Obama fans gain a valuable lesson.

This old Dung Beetle thinks that the rest of the world will fall in line with brainless nonsense. Each passing day his half brain shrinks further into insignificants. The lessons we have gain from his is that his mind (and I use the word mind loosely) is a vortex of stupidity.

No reputable companies are interested in Theme Parks expansion.
Ky. Kingdom was a pretty decent park, but is now closed and in
bankruptcy Just because Dollywood does very well, it is helped by
it's location-length of existence-uniqueness, does not mean one
in Nashville will succeed as well.
The Fairgrounds Committee of the Council has already shown the
council and administration are still determined to sell off at least 1/2
of this property in spite of the citywide vote taken recently!

By: Captain Nemo on 10/20/11 at 5:35

You bring up good points gov, however I think one of the reason Dollywood has done so well is that it is willing to change. Opryland did not change each year and started to loss out on the family tourist.

If you would look at Nashville location you will see that we are at the center of the most heavily part of the country. Any amusement park would not have to be the same size as Dollywood, but I think it would have to stay on top and change with the times. There is very little for children to do in Nashville.

BTW, where does one get 18 Bengal tigers?
8 Lionesses, 4 male Lions.
And a freekin' giraffe?
Didn't the neighbors' complain?

By: Captain Nemo on 10/20/11 at 5:47

The killing of the animals was a tragedy, but the loss of the Tigers made me sick.

The pics are all over the news. A graveyard of 30 dead tigers, lions, bears, etc.
A convicted felon cannot possess a gun, yet this a**-hole was allowed to run a "private zoo"?
And Gibson cannot use "endangered"woods from India and Madagascar, but this guy can have these animals.
Jack Hannah will have a nervous breakdown by Friday.

By: BigPapa on 10/20/11 at 6:37

The closing of Opryland is still used as an example of bone headed business moves over at Owen. The guy that closed it, Terry London, also made a lot more poor decisions, it's just that the others didnt directly affect the public and Nashville at large the way Opryland did.

That being said, I dont think you can bring back those days. It stinks, but that ship has sailed. As yes, the FG needs to go.

By: Kosh III on 10/20/11 at 6:45

Why are there TWO discussions. Can't you CP folks come up with another topic?

I'll help
1. Who else wants the pundits to STFU about the elections until next year?
2. How do Cainites like Syd feel about paying 9% national sales tax AND 9.25% local. Not to mention, that Cain's 666 plan would eventually eliminate the IRS and make it about a 23% sales tax. So here Syd could pay 32% sales tax. This is a plan only the rich will love. And of course sales tax will NOT apply to sale of stocks and bonds and other financial gimmicks that the banksters have invented for their thievery.
3. Will we get good tree color this year?
4. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

By: yogiman on 10/20/11 at 6:53

Thank you for your admirable comment, dumba...

Now, may I offer you a great way of HOW TO START YOUR WITH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK.
1. Open a new file in your computer.
2. Name it Bartack Obama.
3. Send it to the Recycle Bin.
4. Empty the Recycle Bin.
5 Your PC will ask you: 'Do you really want to get rid of Barack Obama?'
6. Firmly click 'YES.'
7. Now, feel better?

Good - tomorrow we'll do Nancy Pelosi.

oops, take the t out of Barry's name. Haven't woke up yet.

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 7:00

Good morning, Nashville!

I agree with Kosh, why have two boards discussing the same topic every day? There's the main story in the News Section and then there's this second debate forum on the same subject every day.

I certainly appreciate the Up For Debate section, but the topic shouldn't be a rehash of another story, IMO. I suggested that this UFD section be a free-for-all board where the posters decide on what to discuss...it ends up that way anyway.

It does seem like the mayor is bound and determined to break up the fairgrounds parcel and see it 'developed", public opinion be damned.

How 'bout the news from Libya, they got Gadaffi, or so they are claiming. Another one bites the dust.

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 7:05

Good grief...Dumba and Dungba are throwing feces at each other again...call the zookeeper! And speaking of exotic animals on the loose, why did they have to kill all those freed creatures...sounds like a hasty decision. Why did the zookeeper commit suicide?

As a coonskin cap wearer, I gotta ask, "Will the pelts go to waste?"

By: dargent7 on 10/20/11 at 7:09

We've all witnessed the evolution of TCP over the years.
Thank God I've only been here 4 1/2.
A chat room is fine, but why they don't publish a LTE is weird.
I know Loner and myself can furnish enough fodder for a decade(s).
I fondly remember a year ago they ran one of mine every day, 5 days straight.
Several posters went "postal" and no one's seen them since.
I get the "One a Month Club" over at The Tennessean, but this is more of a "chat-room".
Kinda like the Institution I spent time in for pulling the wings off of butterflies.

By: dargent7 on 10/20/11 at 7:11

They should at least sell the tiger penis's to Japan and the bear's gall bladders to China.
Sad and sick, but true.

By: bfra on 10/20/11 at 7:44

Gadhafi is gone! Not officially confirmed, but from people at the site, he is dead.

By: bfra on 10/20/11 at 7:48

Loner - Didn't see your earlier comment & just saw the report on TV. Also saw one by Jack Hanna about the killing of the Animals & how hard it was for him and the ones that had to kill them. However, as he said, they were a major danger to humans. Sad that laws in Ohio or any State allow these places. They are in the process of changing that, too late for this fiasco.

By: pswindle on 10/20/11 at 7:49

Dean and his Buddies will get their way about the Fairgrounds. They planned for the fair this year to fail. Everything was a last minute decision and no time to really plan for a successful year.

By: yogiman on 10/20/11 at 7:54

This the company's company, fellers. The have the right to determine what they want discussed. After all, aren't they the ones paying for it?

Should they come up with the great idea; OK, we'll pay for it, now you fellers decide what you want to 'talk' about?

I'm sure you all know much more about the internet than I. So how about setting up a program for so you can pick the subject to dicker back and forth That way, you could select whom you want to argue with.

Heck, you could even keep me off your "favorite" site.

By: bfra on 10/20/11 at 7:58

pswindle - Hopefully not! Time to let Dean know he isn't a Tsar. Would love to see his revenge list.

By: dargent7 on 10/20/11 at 8:10

We should change the name of The United States to, "La Costra Nostra, P.C."
This country has become nothing more than a bunch of mercenaries, available: "For Hire". Hitmen disguised as diplomats.
Who's next?
My best guess is Iran.

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 8:11

We could raffle off or auction off the genital and internal organs, D7...the money going to the ASPCA, or PETA....a win-win situation, I'd say..."who'll start the bidding for this lion scrotum...do I hear a thousand dollars US?"

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 8:18

The Quds force hitting a Saudi diplomat in the USA is verboten...the US-NATO-Israel using assassination machines to kill foreign leaders is not verboten. Anyone who complains is an unpatriotic wuss and a bigot.

Welcome to the new & improved Amerika II...more streamlined, fewer delays, absolute finality.

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 8:30

They're blowing car horns, waving flags and firing rounds into the air in Libya right now...they're chanting "Allah Akbar!!"....Holy Wars Suck.

Syria has to be the next domino to fall....NATO will be dragged into the Syrian conflict, IMO....to save lives, of course...eventually, a drone will probably be used to vaporize President Assad's ass....that guy is a real creep, he's on Obama's fecal roster, Netanyahu's too...his life expectancy is rather short, IMHO.

Actually, Obama is doing a yeoman's job as a neocon...he's paying back his backers on that 750 million he spent to get elected. It's payback time.

Hope & Change? I hate to say it, but President Obama is a reneger.

Captain Nemo said

"The killing of the animals was a tragedy, but the loss of the Tigers made me sick."

Especially when you consider that it's estimated that there are only 1400 left in the world. The world is our sandbox and we're shittin' in it.

By: bfra on 10/20/11 at 9:35

Nemo - Starving horses and then feeding them to the big cats, when they died made me sick. This guy didn't deserve to be a member of the human race.

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 9:38

We're killing dangerous, exotic, carnivorous predators in Ohio and they're killing them in Libya this morning too...no tranquilizer darts. The animals are innocent of malice, not so in Sirte, Libya....the "Lion of the Desert" has been bagged. They say he was a man-killer.

The lion(s) in Ohio did not get a chance to do what comes naturally.

Both stories seem somehow related, in a moralistic sense. Both events are regrettable, but probably necessary, given the circumstances.

By: dargent7 on 10/20/11 at 9:48

The problem with the world's "dietary habits" is that in the USA, no one would think of eating cat, dog, or horse meat.
But, we eat cattle, cows, bison, rabbit, ostrich, etc.
In Europe, horse meat is acceptable.
In China and all of Asia, they pay $350. for a bowl of "Tiger Penis Soup".
$250. for a bowl of "Shark Fin Soup". $150.. for a bowl of "Turtle Soup".
Go to a local acupunturist, and in his "medicine cabinet" it's is full of "bear gall bladders", "tiger testicles", and "Tiger penis essence".
They absolutely should of done an "organ donation" with these 50+ animals killed in OH and not just buried them.
That's how stupid Americans are.

By: Loner on 10/20/11 at 10:13

Amen, brother Darge.

I gotta roll...see ya!

Sorry, Loner, I can't make that three. I don't want to meet a man who is so willing to call a usurper his president.

That's OK, we wouldn't want you to leave your sheep.....

By: dargent7 on 10/20/11 at 12:17

yogi: We've met, as a group, many times this year.
I voted for, 'Eva's Adult Bookstore" parking lot, but was overruled by "house" and "Blanket". (on religious grounds, or something. Nemo was all for it)
Then, I sought out "Slippin' Gears" at Cheetahs, where would be the next best place to meet. No response. She was giving a lube job.
So, what we're left with is this board for communication.

By: dargent7 on 10/20/11 at 12:45

This is a good one:
So, Gadaffi is dead.
The USA wants to, yet again, engage in, "Nation building".
We destroyed Iraq and killed it's leader. We're "Nation building" there.
Then, we're currently destroying Afghanistan, and re-building there, too.
Now, it's onto Libya.
All the while, in case anyone has noticed, the USA is completely broken down.
Fiscally, emotionally, and morally.
Anyone still care to say, "America's the best country in the world"?

By: bfra on 10/20/11 at 1:28

America didn't start an all out undeclared war in Libya, based on lies, nor stay there 8 yrs+, losing 1000s of our Military, plus countless others. Compared to the way the Bush/Cheney (mission NOT accomplished) went down, this, IMO was handled much more professional.

By: yogiman on 10/20/11 at 3:04

Let's see, brrrrk. Put an "a" here, and an"a" there, drop a couple of hose "r"s and a "k" and you spell you name just like your buddy Barack. Who picked that name, you or your buddy?

By: bfra on 10/20/11 at 3:48

With that comment, yogi is pushing "dumb" to the lowest level.

By: yogiman on 10/20/11 at 4:11

Well, brrrrk, did you mean I am, or I are? Did you mean your, as mine, or you're, as you are?

Can't you spell any better than your buddy, dumba..?

And I'll try better, bfra. I don't want to get to the same level as you.

Shut up yogi. Your are a zero.
