Up for Debate: Is there a need for enacting Voter ID laws?

A new report suggests that the basis for voter ID laws — widespread voter fraud — might be thin at best. What do you think?

Despite having all of network news and the vast majority of 'unbiased' news-papers of record solidly in his corner pumping him up it's heartening that the majority of likely voters are seeing through the slurry of BS washing over them every day.

Poll numbers? Willard is down this week...well beyond the margin of error...his "world tour" hurt him and the selection of a Grandma-stalking, Randian, Right-to-Life Papist, as his number 2, did not get much positive "bounce".

FOX probably has a phony poll or two that show Willard & the Wiener ahead...unfair & unbalanced, that's FOX.

If Romney wasn't afraid of the reaction to them, surely he would release the tax returns. What's he so afraid of? Is he a criminal, or just a tax dodger? Whichever, he's going to get awfully tired of having to defend his stonewalling before November. Must be something pretty bad in there...

Ben, the "trillion-dollars per year over the deficit" allegation sounds trumped up....a credible source please....besides, most of that money went into Defense, Israel and Energy related activity...so why the bitching?

By: Loner on 8/15/12 at 9:29

Willard Romney is Darth Evader, Ummm...he evaded the draft, he evaded paying taxes and now he evades pertinent and relevant questions...his aide recently told the US Press Corps to , "Kiss my ass!" Reminds me of Tricky Dick.

We need a POTUS that is honest and straightforward, not evasive by nature....Obama is no saint, he's a politician too; but he's got Willard beat on this critical point. People trust President Obama more than they trust the draft-dodging, tax-evading, Bishop Romney.

The deficits during the Bush administration averaged around $400,000,000,000 a year mostly due to the war supplementals loner. 2009 peaked with the TARP expenditures just under $400,000,000,000 to prevent a run on the banks but those have been almost completely repaid with interest. Since then, however our deficits have run about $1,400,000,000,000 every year; even after applying the TARP repayments.

It's a double whammy where the spending levels are through the roof and the revenues are way down. Most reasonable people would see this as poor results.

I certainly would have expected a lot more jobs for that amount of extra spending. They should have just given everyone in America $13,000 cash so at least we'd have something for the additional we're on the hook for to pay back with interest.

Loner, your crystal balls are the dawn to this darkness.

Twin globes rising on the eastern horizon, I have got to get this image out of my mine. lol

Of course, all this speculation and opining is of little significance...the electoral game is fixed...and, if the experts are correct, the October surprise from our Israeli buddies will put all the other issues on the very back burner....a giant sucking sound will emanate from Persia, as the oxygen is sucked out of the atmosphere & into the faith-based inferno....Judeo-Jihad is brewing right now. in the Jewish state....wake up and smell that aromatic Kosher Blend.

Once the IDF attacks Iran, Obama will only be allowed only a few minutes to decide on how the US should respond...if he hesitates to commit to shock & awe style retribution on the Iranians, the GOP and the Democrats on the AIPAC payroll will accuse him of dithering....if he hastily commits and we have immediate and large unforeseen losses, as a result, then Obama, not Netanyahu will get all the blame.....if the new holy war goes badly, quickly, Obama will be trounced in the election.

Ben, most folks would have taken the 13 G's and bought a new Japanese car...or blown it on Chinese consumer goods. Of course, such a generous give-away would be inflationary and morally hazardous....but our trading competitors would have loved it.

Oh... it was given away loner. Just in ways that bought favor for Obama not in ways that helped the economy.

By: Beernazi on 8/15/12 at 9:49

What about Ryan's plan for SS and Medicare? Are people beginning to worry about his vision on that?

By: Beernazi on 8/15/12 at 9:50

I agree that the whole Israel/Iran thing could be a big game changer and wild card. It'll be an interesting election for sure.

I gotta roll, kids, getting ready for another run to my camp at Brushwood.

Here are the other BINGO cards that I am working at this time:

Please join in.

In closing, here is a Romney TV ad that promises to put able-bodied black men and white welfare queens to work - welfare work, that is:

Ooops, I listed one site twice...including the NCP, I was working three comment boards...the NCP, of course, has the highest quality of posters.

It was given away in the green-energy boondoggle / campaign finance laundry that is Solyndra and its like... it was given to the key states to prop up the public sector labor unions to protect people like Harry Reid from getting his due in the 2010 election... it was given away in the form of a FICA tax cut that will never go away and will undermine and bring to an even faster demise the viability of Social Security and Medicare... it was given away to prop up, in the short term, the new Obamacare entitlement that promises to bankrupt the economy.

Yes, it was given away and now that one time spending used as justification for year over year spending at the same levels... for tax increases that will do little good for revenues but immense harm to the economy upon which the government revenues depend.

This guy has been a failure at every level. The Harvard Faculty Lounger experiment has been a disaster and people who still buy the spin rather than look at the results are the biggest dupes of all.

By: Loner on 8/15/12 at 10:03

Dupes? The Dupes of Hazard? Moral hazard that is.....Yeeeee Haaaaaw!

I like the "Harvard Faculty Lounger" ad hominem, Ben....if that's original, congrats!

But seriously....loner out.

By: Beernazi on 8/15/12 at 10:10

Ben, I would disagree that "Obamacare" will bankrupt the economy. We do need major changes in the healthcare industry and imho Single Payor would be the way to go. We also need stronger regulations to prevent things like THIS:

HCA likes to use coding that provides a larger payout from Medicare than what might actually be wrong with a patient. It's this sort of thing that makes me want the healthcare industry to be not-for-profit.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/15/12 at 10:11

Have fun Loner.

By: gdiafante on 8/15/12 at 11:19

Right Ben...as if your dribble isn't cut and past from GOP talking points...hilarious. Just because you think you're above the fray doesn't mean you are.

Here ended the lesson.

I cut and paste nothing without quotation marks and attribution gd.

Romney's message now against Obama is that, "he's driven by hatred".
Where does this a-hole get this stuff?
Anyone with an IQ over 70 knows Obama cares about the country and is doing his best.
In spite of all the slams from Birthers, et.al., who question his birthplace, nationality, religion, paternity, transcripts, allegience.
Romney's a LDS member which is on par with Scientology except having sex with the good looking women.
No caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, porn.....just lives off of God's pure energy?
That, and American capitalism.
Screw everybody, people be damned, and take their money.
That's a stronger drug than anything the rest of us are privy to.

By: budlight on 8/15/12 at 4:07

Oh he cares, does he?
