Up for Debate: Todd resigns as committee chair

Monday, October 17, 2011 at 12:24am

Given Rep. Curry Todd’s statement Monday to “step aside as chairman of the House State and Local Government Committee until this matter is resolved,” how well has he and the Republican leadership handled his arrest to this point?

I assume they're tackeling other pressing issues like legalizing guns in parks, courtrooms, hospitals.

They are taking their time in order that both sides can collect
needed funds and get their political donations distributed!
Measuring their financial strengths and political motivation
counts in these super heavy decisions!

Good morning, Nashville!

Steven Hale's article in the NCP covered this topic very well, IMO.

Seems like what we have here is a bunch of good and noble reasons and some obscure and less noble real reasons.

Is this a safety and parking issue, a public health issue or something reasonable like that, or is this a matter of manipulating the free marketplace, by way of government regulations that benefit one interest group, at the expense of another interest group?

Is this "kerfuffle" a matter of safeguarding and optimizing the public's interests, or is this a matter of elected officials kowtowing to powerful special interests?

I believe that the delay is being caused by a combination of factors; Steven Hale's report touched upon some of the meaty aspects of this rather unsavory gastro-political debate.

Whichever side give Tygard (sp) the most FREE food, will get his vote.

Off-Topic: How about this 2 time "Indy 500" winner who was killed in a Las Vegas "Indy 300" crash? Only 33 too, with two kids.

By: brrrrk on 10/17/11 at 9:42

Lame NCP, just plain lame..........

By: dargent7 on 10/17/11 at 9:42

Off-Topic ver. 2.1:
How about this Cain dufus who wants to put up an electrified fence along the border?
I swear, if one of these freaks: Perry, Bachmann, Cain, gets elected, America is done for.
Romney's, "Magical Underware" and "Eye Glasses" are starting to make sense.

By: dargent7 on 10/17/11 at 9:43

brrrrk: Just start our own "Off-Topic- No Brains" division.
I already started it.

It would be like electing Harry Potter.... but without the charisma.

Ahhh... return of the Roach Coach debate. Here's the solution. Have a pool of 100 licenses (restaurant and street vendor alike) to operate food service for the 2nd Avenue and Lower Broad area. Revoke the license of the 5 lowest performers every month and give give those licenses to the next in line.

From this I predict the cleanest most expensive food on the planet Earth in down-town Nashville within a year.

May Dan Wheldon rest in peace. My condolences to his family and team members.

As for the TP-GOP hopefuls, I'd say that Herman the Pie-man will be Simple Simon's choice...he has the backing of the Koch brothers and the Israel lobby has vetted him - he made the pilgrimage with Beck - and the Evangelicals want a bona fide Christian, not a heretic "cult" member.

Perry the jet pilot has flamed out...look for him to eject. His wife has a burning bush issue....Oy!

Cain will be on the ticket, IMHO...as veep, if not the top spot....if not, the TP-GOP is going to look racist.... the Republicans may attempt to remove the stigma of racism, by nominating Cain...he's the perfect sacrificial lamb, IMO.

In a face to face debate, the Prez will whip the Pie-man; Obama will win a second term, according to my crystal balls.

In that event, we can look forward to four more years of obstructionism and stalemate. Bankers and employers will maintain their freeze out, hunkered down tactics....and Congress will continue to stall any recovery initiatives, in a partisan attempt to further demonize and discredit Mr. Obama. Things will most likely get worse, IMHO....I hope I'm wrong on that.

Good to see you posting here BFRA.

Just get ALL of these private vendors, trucks or carts or stands or whatever, off of ALL public right of way and guess what, discussion ends by allowing public and taxpayer safety and convenience to be better served. Those areas are owned by the taxpaying public and should be managed and maintained to serve the needs of the owners, not those of any private business. Transient vendors setup all around town on private property every day, presumably with the owner's permission or invitation, so why should more urban areas be treated any differently?

By: bfra on 10/17/11 at 10:23

tomba1 - That is more logic than any politician in this City has! They will pander to the ones that most serve THEIR needs or agendas, not the voters that elected them .

"Roach Coach"? I love it! Is that part of the vernacular, Ben?

Your suggestion has merit; however, human nature being what it is, it's all in who is doing the inspecting...it's the follow-up enforcement thing. It's ripe for bribery, kick-backs, pay-outs etc.

I ought to come on down there, buy an old school bus, and start serving pancakes in the morning and chili in the afternoon...I'll call it the "Loner's Roach Coach"....Of course, I'll be living in the bus too...I'll try to keep my dirty socks out of the chili.

I'll put a small stage up on the roof of the bus...for live music...it's Music City baby!

Any feedback on this feeding idea?

Thanks Loner, I just check in occasionally. Can't stomach much of yogi, his echo (bud) & serr8 that has lost all reasoning. Take yogi comparing Obama sending 100, most special ops, into Uganda to assist , to bobblehead Bush/Cheney, invaiding and bombing & entire Country, for oil & "he threatened to kill my daddy".

It would be great if you even had a moderate brain in that skull, bfra. Sorry you don't, because anyone welcoming a usurper into our Oval Office is a pure no brainer.

Today, on FOX & Friends, they has Andy Card on, "report carding" Obama's performance his first 1,000 days....gave him a C- all the while Steve Doocey had a visible erection.
Gave him F- on everything else.
Andy Card was the one who told GW Bush the Twin Towers were hit.
As the dunce sat there reading, "My Pet Goat" to 4th graders, he came back and told him a 2nd plane hit.
He then came back and pulled the idiot up from his chair.
The look on Bush's face for the 7 minutes is priceless.
....then Dana Parino, Bush's press secretary says, "there's been no terrorist attacks on American soil since George Bush has been President...."
Reminded of 9/11, she said, "besides that one..."
You simply cannot make this Republican party and it's members up!

By: yogiman on 10/17/11 at 1:01

bfra,

I'm curious; what makes Constitutional idiots like yourself, and many others on this site, so in love with a usurper in that office? Well, we only have 13 months for it all to come forth and time will tell.

By: dargent7 on 10/17/11 at 1:06

bfra's post at 11:31am is right on.
Obama provided NATO support in Lybia to get Gadaffi.
Just air.
Bush steams 4 aircraft carriers toward Iraq in 2003, "to avenge 9/11".
Derranged morons in lock- down in American prisons all know Saddam had ZERO to do with 9/11. 4th graders know it.
Cheney figured America would buy into it and his blind stock in Halliburton would skyrocket.
Both put 120,000 troops on the ground to take out a dictator.
Costing $4.+ billion a month.
Makes perfect sense to a Republican.

By: yogiman on 10/17/11 at 1:11

dargent7,

How would you have reacted with such a report in front of a group of 10 years old children (presuming they were in school at the normal age)? Jump up and run and scare the hell out of them?

Okay, I know, you're different. Your probable way of thinking would be: To hell with the children, I've never been one myself so they should be like me.

By: dargent7 on 10/17/11 at 2:26

Yogi: 4th graders are 8 years old.
If I'm President, and my "Chief of Staff" tells me twice, planes are slamming into skyscrapers in NYC and crashinging into The Pentagon, I'm going to say, "Children, I have to attend to some matters..."
"Miss Bebe will continue the book reading.."
I'm NOT going to continue reading.
So, 25 4th graders got a little scare.
As compared to 325 million Americans who's country was under attack.
Bush sat there stone, cold faced.
Was CLUELESS. Card had to pick him up like a ventriloquist's dummy and haul him off stage.
You can spin it however you want, but it's all there on tape.
Michael Moore didn't use any special effects.

What age was you when you started school, dargent7.. 4? You had to be 6 when I was a child. We didn't have kindergarten back then. I reckon y'all got a lot smarter faster than the children of my youth. Your parents must have learned so much faster to get you started so much younger. Its a shame you didn't learn much. Especially about the "guvmunt".

Or they wanted to get you out of the house so much sooner.

By: bfra on 10/17/11 at 4:06

School? yogi, from what you post here, it sounds like you never attended any school. Reform school, maybe?

And the winner of the 2012 Presidential election is Herman Cain - hands down! Yep. I can't wait! Looking so forward to the election and 'specially the DE-bate between the young, arrogant upstart Odrama and the seasoned, confident MAN, Cain. Can't wait!

Well, I'm sure I don't have the scholastic education you seem to indicate you have, bfra, but I'll bet I can beat the hell out of you on experience.

You ignorance from the lack of experience is showing up here every time you make one of your ignorant posts.
