Up for Debate: U.S. House votes on speaker

Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 9:05pm

Despite some rumblings against John Boehner, members of the U.S. House of Representatives re-elected him as their speaker. Others, including defeated congressman Allen West and our own Rep. Jim Cooper (who voted for former Secretary of State Colin Powell), also received votes. What is your reaction to Thursday's congressional developments?

The house and senate is nothing more than a Country Club whose only entrance requirement is that you are elected into a society no different than Augusta National.

Once in they develop their own pecking order. My guess is that a book could be written on why Boehner was elected and why he was re-elected.

It might startle even those with the mentality of the Simple Six.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 6:13

I find the response from our Country Club Bumpkin most entertaining.

By Mayo Clinic staff

Narcissistic personality ( Rasputin ) disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a "deep need for admiration." Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they're superior to others and have little regard for other people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Narcissistic personality disorder is one of several types of personality disorders. Personality disorders are conditions in which people have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in relationships and in other areas of their life, such as work or school.

Narcissistic personality disorder treatment is centered on psychotherapy.

An excellent post Captain Nemo. I believe our resident, soon to be mental patient, you reference could be the national poster child for combatting mental illness. After all, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I understand Jim Cooper voted for Colin Powell to be Speaker of the House, since it is not a requirement the Speaker actually be a member.

This opens up some wonderful possibilities should our elected leaders ever fully escape the bonds of sanity.

I will leave the subject to the fertile minds of our more creative posters to speculate on the implications.

Of course, I expect the troll patrol to chime in with their confederate money's worth to at least provide the rest of us with some snicker worthy entertainment.

By: govskeptic on 1/4/13 at 6:52

I find the definition of the Narcissistic Personality posted by the Good Captain, to
explain fully that of our recently re-elected President of these United States. That
mostly likely explains the reasoning our recently re-elected Speaker of the House
stated "I will not personally sit down with him again to negotiate anything".

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 7:06

Ask01 this was from yesterday.

I find it hilarious that budlight would kiss up to Rasputin. I suppose that she is not clever enough to know that he considers her one of the underclass. But then bud is not the brightest of trolls.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/3/13 at 6:24
Rasputin made an offer to meet with Blanket and me but ran like a coward when we agreed to meet with me..
By: Rasputin72 on 1/3/13 at 6:37
NEMO......Just for the record I recanted because If you play with shit you will get shit on your hands.
I consider you shit.
By: Captain Nemo on 1/3/13 at 6:58
For the record, old boy you are a coward and full of it.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 7:08

oops I left off bud's response

By: budlight on 1/3/13 at 9:30
And Raspy, stop stooping down to the Nem"roid" level. Don't let that roid get you to cussing. You're too good for that.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 7:11

If bud only knew how low Rasputin has gotten, she would be horrified and or thrilled. I don’t know how destitute mind of hers works.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 7:16

"I will not personally sit down with him again to negotiate anything".

gov that sound like a disorder that the Speaker and the Republican Party has against order. If they can’t have it their way, then they will see the country go to hell.

By: yogiman on 1/4/13 at 7:55

OK Ask01,

Here's a little something to snicker about. Mr. Cooper voted for Colin Powell simply because Mr. Powell is a supporter of usurper Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama. Mr. Powell was a Republican until two weeks before the election in 2008 when he "switched" his support to "Obama".

Why? Was it because of his ignorance of the Constitution's requirement for that office or simply a race factor supporting the first black president of the USA.

I hate to tell Mr. Powell, but he isn't supporting the first black president of the USA, he's supporting the first usurper in the USA.

By: Kosh III on 1/4/13 at 7:58

Yawn.....

By: govskeptic on 1/4/13 at 8:03

Capt: I simply must disagree. I think the Speaker's point was he is lied to in private
by the President, who then goes to the Cameras and states a totally different position
to the public.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 8:09

gov-

I must have missed something. What was said in the private meeting?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/4/13 at 8:41

I'd rather have Boehner than Cantor or Ryan. It could be worse.

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 9:04

Some idiot voted for Allen West? He lost his seat in a close race, as I understand it.

Allen West is the premiere example of a classic Uncle Tom Negro...he beats Condi Rice and Clarence Thomas in the white-wannabe category of up-sniffing, black, social climber. West was kicked out of the military for his sadistic behavior towards captured prisoners in a combat zone...he liked to do mock executions on the detainees....West is a very sick puppy, in the opinion of many, he suffers from a serious pathological disorder....I was hoping to read that West jumped off a cliff, without a bungee cord.

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 9:24

Eric Cantor is the top-ranking Jewish Republican politician in the US House of Representatives; he is a huge fan of US-backed apartheid Zionism in Palestine. Of course, support for apartheid Zionism in Palestine is bipartisan, strong and deep; but Israel would still prefer actual Jews, as opposed to Jew-wannabes running the US federal government. Eric Cantor will be on the GOP short list for POTUS in 2016....he is a man on a mission from G-d. Of course, anyone who speaks ill of Cantor, will be classified as an anti-Semite....he's got that card to play, and he'll play it when the time comes.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/4/13 at 9:24

Yep, can you believe that, Loner?

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 9:26

"Wieners" Ryan was a non-factor in the 2012 election; I think that hot dog is done...the fire's out and he's still on the grill...they'll throw him to the dogs?

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 9:30

Allen West can always get a job with FOX News...or publish a ghost-written book....or go on the rubber-chicken circuit, speaking to white supremacists about the righteousness of their values system....that rat won't starve.

By: Rasputin72 on 1/4/13 at 9:52

LONER..............I would not worry about the people in the government who bring you frustration. As the 47% grows to 49 then 50 ,then 52 and onwards and upwards you should have enough ner do wells in key offices you can put NEMO in a position to tske care of issues like you bring up.

The only thing that should bother you is that the world no longer has to fear anything about this country other than NEMO being in charge of the nuclear arsenal.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 10:15

“People like rasputin who worship only themselves get a slick, polished look -- like monuments. Too bad they had to go so soon.”
Vanna Bonta

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 10:47

I am surprised that nobody voted for Rush Limbaugh for Speaker of the House...as long as some were grandstanding for Allen West and Colin Powell, why not really suck up to the intellectual leader of the Republican Party?

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 10:50

Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert for Speaker of the House? We might as well get a good laugh out of being screwed by the professionals....Ha, Ha, we are going to Hell, Ha, Ha Ha.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/4/13 at 10:59

Loner, did you know that Rasputin tried to be a Hippy once. He heard about all of the free love in the movement. It took him 2 yrs to figure out that even in a cloud of pot that the good looking chicks still would not go to bed with him. That is when he turned to the low self-esteem rich girls.

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 11:58

Rasputin as a hippie wannabe?

I can see it now...he knocks on the door of the apartment that is holding a "pot party" in 1970....the door opens a crack, smoke rolls out of the place into the hallway....a long-haired, bearded stoner sticks his head out and asks, "Who the **** are you?" A young, short-haired Rasputin, dressed in a Hawaiian shirt, with sandals and white socks and sporting a huge Peace Sign, on a leather thong necklace, answers, "I'm a friend of Captain Nemo's"

Am I right on that, Captain? Is this the case, Rasp?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/4/13 at 12:01

Loner, you forgot to add that he was pasty skinned and chubby. Not exactly the type the free lovin' hippy girls wanted.

By: yogiman on 1/4/13 at 12:53

How do you know what 'those girls' wanted, B2? Was you a prime example?

By: Eye Nose & Now ... on 1/4/13 at 1:58

I see yogi is up to it again right here on this CP site about speaker of House, even
tho I offered him cumpromise other day: ---yogi stop tell truth on CP site and we all
others stop tell lies covering for Obama ---but it seem yogi just don't understands
cumpromise which seem problmn of all republicns so i guess problems go on
in 2013 just like in 2012 and everyyear before as some just don't likes Obama and
grate things he do to save Amerca.

By: pswindle on 1/4/13 at 2:08

Gen. P:owell turned democratic because of the way that BUSH/Cheney made him give a speech at the UNited Nations that was completely false and he knew it. He knew that there were not any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Boehner is the best that the GOP has to offer, and that is about as sad as it gets.

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 2:09

Blanket, I got a black t-shirt.. with white, typewriter style, small font text: "Chicks dig scrawny pale guys." It's so powerful that I only wear it on one weekend per year...the Watkins Glen Vintage Car Race Weekend....they close off main street and after the vintage car street race, they have a street dance, with live music....there's babes booze in the streets....the occasional fragrance of burning kind bud wafts through the air, as the not-so-young revelers party into the night....under such conditions, several hotties will come up to me and inquire about the validity and efficacy of the claim expressed on the shirt.

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 2:10

...babes & booze in the streets...gotta love that.

By: Loner on 1/4/13 at 2:15

EN&N is quite the character...what class of troll mocks out uneducated Southern black folks? He's not a "flamer"....he's something else.....anybody care to venture a guess as what kind of a troll this guy is?

Slacker, any words of wisdom on that?

By: slacker on 1/4/13 at 2:47

Loner.. I'd say redneck ebonics are in play.

By: Eye Nose & Now ... on 1/4/13 at 3:12

so here comes 2 name calling republicns attacking me -- they don't even have
to identify themself as republicns as republicns only ones who call people names--

By: yogiman on 1/4/13 at 4:40

Sorry, ENN, but I won't 'cumpromise' to a liar by stopping my telling the truth. Why would even a liar not want the truth?

You're setting a good example on lying, liar. Why do I post that? If you're such a ridiculous liar, what's to make anyone think you would ever tell the truth?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/4/13 at 5:00

Now that's some funny stuff. LOL

By: Rasputin72 on 1/4/13 at 5:25

There are so many things to be thankful for in my life.

The most important one is good health. The second is my standard of living and the third one is that I never have to have dialog with the Simple Six.

I find that just jousting with these human "entrals" requires one to give organized religion some consideration.

If I have learned anything it has to be that my contribution to the cost of private school at Westminster/Buckhead and MBA/FRA is one of my best investments.

One of the days that the lower middle class culture had run amok on this board I had a bad dream that night.
I dreamed my grandsons were students at Hunters Lane.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/4/13 at 5:29

Ray, I'm sure you enjoy living off the coattails of others. That's all you've ever done. Your clownish remarks show your lack of substance. But hey, "Keep on Perceivin' - Hold on to that feelin'!"

By: Rasputin72 on 1/5/13 at 4:06

Blanketnazi...........Having a pretty good idea as to your lifestyle, I urge you in the name of what little self-esteem you have tp hold on tight to that perception.

Remember what I have taught you. "What is perceived is real"

By: budlight on 1/5/13 at 7:01

Good morning, America. Oh wow! somebody already has that line.

Get ready for higher food prices everyone. I have a friend who is teaching me to make lentil sandwiches on pita bread. They are awesome. And full of protein.

OK, I'm going back to sleep.

And on Monday when this CP is posted again, I am going to put a note on my computer to only say things that are pleasing to God and not not be mean to Loner, Nemroid (who does not have a clue what Nem"roid" means, bfra or anyone else.

It's not nice to say mean things. I hope it lasts for more than one day. If CP posters could declare a cease fire and be kind to one another, I'm sure the rest of the world would follow suit.

God Bless Everyone

By: Captain Nemo on 1/5/13 at 8:00

bud you have never been awake a day in your life.

By: yogiman on 1/5/13 at 10:11

Back to the original question on our reaction to last Thursday's congressional development.

I feel Congress has taken the roll of private enterprise. The members don't seem to remember the meaning of congress being "of the people, for the people". They feel it is for the people that's donating to their campaign funds. They start running for re-election the day they enter their office. They take campaign money from anyone who will "donate" to them regardless of who they are or where they are from.

People keep commenting there should be term limits on them. Well, there is term limits on them... it's called election. The best way to limit the 'crooks' time in office is to restrict how, and where, a candidate can get their campaign money.

It should be made possible a good honest person wanting to represent the common citizens should afford to be able to run for office.

Would the politicians of today support such a law? Don't count on it.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/5/13 at 10:28

Deeper and deeper.

By: yogiman on 1/5/13 at 11:35

It's a shame you're so shallow minded, dumba$$.

By: budlight on 1/6/13 at 10:14

"One group for whom the Obama thrill remains strong is African-Americans, who overwhelmingly wanted him to have four more years in the White House. More than nine in 10 blacks voted to re-elect Obama, according to surveys of voters as they left their polling places in November."

Tell me the election was not about race. I'm surprised that the statistics don't show that 11 out of 10 blacks voted for Obama. But this year they are claiming the hotel rooms cost too much to attend the inaugration. Gee, they were not costly the first time around, now were they? Or maybe most of those who voted for him are unemployed!

: Captain Nemo on 1/5/13 at 7:00
bud you have never been awake a day in your life.

Gee, couldn't you even go one day saying nice things nemo? No. I expected you'd fail the nice test.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/13 at 10:24

I suppose you don't consider calling me Nemriod being Nice? Gee you dumb old cow, you wonder why people don't treat you nice.

By: yogiman on 1/6/13 at 10:33

The only reason I have seen, or heard, of anyone voting for Obama was the race factor, budlight.

Fortunately, as you noted, 10% of the black Americans weren't "bought up" by that race factor and voted with common sense.

And by the way, budlight, I'm still waiting for proof he isn't a usurper in office.

By: budlight on 1/6/13 at 2:22

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/13 at 9:24
I suppose you don't consider calling me Nemriod being Nice? Gee you dumb old cow, you wonder why people don't treat you nice.

Gee, you are not astute enough to notice that since I said "be nice" I have referred to you as Nemo or Capt. and have no long used the "oid" word. You misspelled it, by the way.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/13 at 4:08

Now let’s see how long you can keep it up. Your word is about as good as yogi’s.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/13 at 4:21

BWT

By calling me either Captain or Nemo does not make you a nice person, bud.

By: yogiman on 1/6/13 at 6:34

Either one is much better than yours, dumba$$. You prove it every day.
