Up for Debate: Wine bill killed

Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 8:52pm

Do you think Tuesday's House committee vote that likely killed the wine-in-grocery-stores bill for this session was more a reflection of the voters and General Assembly at large, or of the influence of lobbyists?

Who knows what is going on in the minds of that bunch.

By: Ask01 on 3/13/13 at 4:46

This incident actually goes beyond the issue of wine in grocery stores.

The question uppermost in everyone's mind should be who is actually running this state?

When one considers all indications are the vast majority of citizens favor allowing wine sales in retail ventures aside from liquor stores, the defeat of the bill illustrates overwhelmingly how our elected officials are bought and paid for by special interests.

The fact money talks and politicians are for sale is not news. Anyone smarter than a red brick knows this.

What should push the electorate to punish our legislators is the blatant way this was done. There was not even the barest attempt to hide the influence pedaling at work. The pandering to special interest groups over the wishes of the people happens all the time.

If, on a truthfully not so important subject such as this, our elected employees are so easily bought, how readily will they sell us out on more far reaching and critical issues?

The time has come to totally clean house at the capitol. If every sitting politician were thrown out next election, showing that all the money in the world won't get you re-elected if you buck the will of the people, we might actually have a chance of actually controlling our state for the first time in ages.

Let's see if the liqour and other lobbying groups will support these unemployed politicians after we fire them.

Since wine has been determined to be nutritious for your body, why not buy it as food from a grocery store? After all, it's better for you than the beer you can buy at a grocery store.

Other than getting "happy", the best reason for drinking beer is to keep your bladder flushed/

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 4:59

It looks like our national elected employees were easily bought, Ask01. The biggest question is, how much did they get paid to allow an illegal candidate usurp our White House?

Good morning, Nashville.

The special interests trumped the general interest, once again. The fix was in. Specifically, I would blame two lawmakers for "changing their minds", so to speak, at the last minute: I would target both Sherry Jones and Matthew Hill.

From the main article: "Lundberg had been counting on a close vote and said he was surprised that committee Chairman Matthew Hill (R-Jonesborough) changed his vote from last week’s “yes” vote in a subcommittee to this week’s rejection.....State Rep. Sherry Jones (D-Nashville) was also a vote Lundberg said he was counting on. She left midway through the committee to attend a hearing in a committee next door about the Department of Children’s Services."

Both Jones and Hill had their publicized "good reasons" for their actions...we can assume that there were undisclosed real reasons for their change of heart....Kerching!

Both Jones and Hill should be made into object lessons for the other scumbags...throw the dirty birds out....clean the coop.

Ask01 ask who is running this state. The fourth wing of government is the lobbyist.

What little book are you talking about, bfra, the Constitution? I just a fresh new box of them. I've edited one of them and they all say the same thing the other ones did: You have to be a natural born citizen to become president of this nation.
No wonder the old fool has a hard time understanding the Constitution, he has edited it, and so many times that he has no idea what it means.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/13/13 at 6:23

yogi claims to have "edited" the Constitution. I bet he doesn't know the definition of "edit" let only be able to comprehend what he is reading.

You know, it's funny, brrrrk,
None of you have any idea whether I'm a Negro or Caucasian, yet you think of me as a racist because I oppose your admired usurper in office because he refuses to identify himself.

You have got to be the most stupid man on Earth yogi. I’ve seen you and you are a old white racist dumb-ass. Sheriff Roy was not a black in Smith County. What an ass you are.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 6:30

This is disturbing;

By: Rasputin72 on 3/12/13 at 8:15
NEMO.....,..No one from the first grade until the day you dropped out of school ever accused you of being part of the intelligent class.

Translation;

No, no!! It is my you got to pay attention to.

By: treehugger7 on 3/13/13 at 6:35

You need a translation, since what you say makes no sense!

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 6:35

Check the parking lots...both Hill and Jones will probably be driving expensive new vehicles soon.

Of course, prices for wine and spirits will now increase, to cover the requisite bribery costs...the people of TN, not the liquor store owners, will continue to finance the scheme that has ripped them off for years and will continue to screw them for years to come...it's similar to making the family of a firing squad victim pay for the bullets used....it sadistically rubs salt into the wound.

The only way to stop this is by electing clean politicians to replace the tainted ones; this is nearly impossible to actually do, because the two major political parties are both rotten to the core.

By: treehugger7 on 3/13/13 at 6:36

That was meant for Raspy, not you, Nemo!

My weewee is infected.

Take it of your mouth then.

By: Jughead on 3/12/13 at 4:00
My weewee fell off.

You shouldn't of bitten down.

By: Jughead on 3/12/13 at 4:47
My weewee has a first name.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/12/13 at 4:50
It has to be Little Boy Blue.

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 6:39

Could we refrain from flinging poo at other posters?...it's too early in the morning for a fecal fight....thanks.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 6:40

He is still trying to remember who I am treehugger.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 6:43

Now Loner, you know at another time you would be doing this too.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 6:45

BTW Loner, Jones is consider one of the good guys.

By: Rasputin72 on 3/13/13 at 6:53

LONER............If you want to be objective as to why your forum has dwindled into a sea of human bile, take a look at how quickly Captain Nemo has made sure that the subject matter was abandoned.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 6:57

Read the post befor Raspy old boy.

BTW Loner has said many timel it is trolls like you that has been detrimenta to this board.

By: bfra on 3/13/13 at 6:58

Raspy - Good that everybody with good sense knows your bile is pure blow, otherwise we would have lost more posters. Yogi & his ilk (you included) has done more to harm this forum that anybody.

By: govskeptic on 3/13/13 at 6:59

With command of liquor pricing by the wholesalers, and limited number of stores
within every community across the state, no corporation allowed to own a store,
protected territories for the wholesalers against wholesalers in other areas, and
no one allowed to own more than one store All this has made for many decades of
power within the legislature over both Democratic and Republican Governors and
Leadership of both Houses for many decades. It's a firewall of profits and donations
unmatched by any other Industry. As a retired legislators once said: It's just a
Tenn thing up here.

I must shove a wedge between Nemo and the others.

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 7:02

Sherry Jones is a good guy? I thought that she was a woman...a woman who abandoned her constituents during a key voting session, by walking out of the meeting before the vote was taken....she used "the children" as moral cover for what is clearly dereliction of duty and naked hypocrisy.

By: bfra on 3/13/13 at 7:02

gov. - That needs to be changed "It's just a CROOKED Tenn thing up here".

By: bfra on 3/13/13 at 7:03

Loner - IMO you are correct on Sherry Jones.

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 7:03

You are as full of sh!t as a Christmas turkey, dumba$$. If you've seen me, describe me. Do I have a trimmed beard or a long beard? How is my mustache rimmed?

And no, Sheriff Roy wasn't a black in Smith County. Why wasn't he? Because he never lived in Smith County. Hell, I don't even know if he was ever in Smith County.

So where did your Sheriff Roy from?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/13/13 at 7:08

gov pretty much summed it up. TN is stuck in the dark ages.

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 7:08

Things have deteriorated to this: How is my mustache rimmed?

Again...it's too early in the morning for images of Yogi and his rimming fetish...I gotta load the bowl and make more cappuccino....we are off to a sick start...

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 7:08

s/h/b is instead of did

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 7:09

Sorry, B2. I didn't edit it good enough.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:09

So you are saying that Sheriff Roy was not your Pa? Then why do you get so angry when I say he raised an idiot.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:19

Yes, yogi how do you rimmed your mustache?

By: Jughead on 3/13/13 at 7:19

My weewee is sad.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:24

More like puny, Jughead.

By: Kosh III on 3/13/13 at 7:26

Loner said "Could we refrain from flinging poo at other posters?...it's too early in the morning for a fecal fight....thanks."

"I burst my pimple at you and call you a son of a silly person.....Ni ni"

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:28

Does your auntie Sid know your talk with a potty mouth?

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:29

Ouch, Kosh. lol

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 7:31

...in that case, Kosh, I fart in your general direction.

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 7:33

You need to use some of that castor oil in your f@rt producers, Loner.

By: Ask01 on 3/13/13 at 7:34

Since the spineless politicians caved to the liquor lobby, I guess shopping trips to Fort Campbell will just include more stops at the Class VI store to keep stocked up on wine.

It is a small blow, but at least I won't be giving any money to Tennessee liquor stores.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:35

Sheriff Roy Wade had a black son and kept him in the closet for years. Told neighbors he found him under a rock.

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 7:37

It depends on what Sheriff Roy you're posting about, dumba$$. You apparently don't know what you're posting about... which is normal.

And by the way, why do you ask how I trim my mustache? I thought you knew what I look like.

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 7:41

It's time to man some signage, people...time to picket the legislative chambers...time to picket the liquor stores themselves.....time to start honking horns again....time for the local DJ's to raise a ruckus on the local airwaves....don't take this crap lying down once again....get up and fight....the bribed politicians and the coddled liquor store thugs would cave in quickly, if enough people got up off their asses and manned some signage....give it a shot!

By: bfra on 3/13/13 at 7:41

Double dumbass - Nobody ask how you "trim" your mustache. Billy goats have more sense than you!

By: bfra on 3/13/13 at 7:46

It would be impossible to accomplish, but I wish Liquor stores in TN could be avoided completely & all liquor purchases made outside TN for about a month.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/13/13 at 7:48

Anyone who thinks they can "edit" the constitution is a complete moron. What a stupid thing to say.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/13/13 at 7:52

It was the Jackass yogi that said that he rimmed his mustache, yet he is so dumb that he forgot that it was he that said;

By: yogiman on 3/13/13 at 8:03
You are as full of sh!t as a Christmas turkey, dumba$$. If you've seen me, describe me. Do I have a trimmed beard or a long beard? How is my mustache (rimmed?)

By: Loner on 3/13/13 at 7:52

I agree, Bfra, a general boycott of the government-licensed liquors stores would be the ultimate weapon in this fight; but, as you say, that's nearly impossible. Where are the Tennessee moonshiners when you really need them? Where are the home-brewers? The smugglers? The bootleggers?

Screw the Guvmint, Buy Moonshine.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 3/13/13 at 7:54

Loner, I homebrewed for a few years. It was a great hobby but I just don't have the time for it anymore. I wouldn't venture trying to make wine. I like good wine too much to drink the swill my batch would probably end up being.
