We asked the House committee members who voted down the wine bill earlier this week why they voted the way they did? What do you think of their answers?

Good morning, Nashville.

I read the main article. All of the "NO" voters did so for 2 reasons:
1. The good reason.
2. The real reason.

They all revealed their good reason for their NO vote. None of them revealed their real reason for their NO vote.

Perhaps the small businesses need to become large businesses in Mr. Carr's district. If the grocery stores can become legally eligible to sell liquor, the liquor store owners can reverse the competitor-ship become competitors to sell groceries.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 5:46

From the main article:

Rep. Richard Floyd (R-Chattanooga): “When I was 11 years old, on a Wednesday night, I accepted Christ and it changed my moral compass all of my life. I’ve never tasted alcohol in my life.

What a waste...the guy should have become a priest, a rabbi, or a mullah....not a lawmaker in a secular republic...this pious choir boy should move to the theocracy of his choice...get rid of this phony baloney before he does any more damage for the Lord.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/15/13 at 6:10

It is still alive.

By: gdiafante on 3/15/13 at 6:14

Floyd must remember that Jesus turned water into wine (which was immediately seized by the pharasees because some merchants began selling it, much to the chagrin of the Jewish liquor lobby).

By: gdiafante on 3/15/13 at 6:20

I read Rep Sparks remarks...completely ridiculous. For the most part I think beer is sold in 24/7 groceries, until a certain time, like 2 or 3 am or something due to licensing. It's the same thing that prevents you from buying beer before noon on Sundays. So why can't they do the same for wine? And, even if he really believes the BS he's spouting, where is his bill to end the sale of beer in groceries? Or do 17 year olds only want cheap wine?

I can't believe these numbnuts are in charge.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 6:26

Good point, Gd. Christ turned water into wine and he turned wine into his blood...so it is written....maybe that explains Floyd's blood-sucking attitude....Floyd skips the middle part and goes directly for the blood?

No doubt, Floyd is a huge, huge fan of Jewish supremacy in the holy land....what a tool!

By: gdiafante on 3/15/13 at 6:32

WWJD? He'd have some wine. Now see, if he had turned water into a nut brown ale, I may have been more open to Christianity.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 6:35

They all had their good reasons...rehearsed...with talking points etc. Humans have an uncanny ability to rationalize their behavior, so as to preserve their own self-respect....that way, they can claim the moral high ground while violating their own internal code of ethics...it's the old ends justifying the means idea....the ethical escape clause found in all major religions....and in every human being.....no exceptions....self-included. I call it: "self-bullshitization".

By: yogiman on 3/15/13 at 6:40

It's way past time for the legislatures to represent the people that elected them to office, not the benefactors that "deposited" (donated) campaign money in their race.

By: yogiman on 3/15/13 at 6:41

When I said "legislatures", I meant at the local, state and national levels.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 6:46

Speaking of hypocrisy, epiphanies and situational ethics, Sen. Rob Portman, a sponsor of the infamous Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is now doing a one-eighty on gay marriage...now, he's for it! Yeah, his son came out as being a gay man...all of the sudden, Portman sees the light....typical GOP scumbag....git a rope!

Here's the story:

I submitted this comment, but the NYT is very picky..it has not appeared on the NYT board:

How sweet. Another hypocrite Republican has had an epiphany. When things hit home, all of a sudden, personal ethics magically conform to the new situation...it's situational ethics, GOP style.

If his unwed daughter became pregnant, Portman would suddenly become pro-choice?

If Portman's son got busted for Cannabis, would Portman suddenly be in favor of terminating the failed "war on drugs"?

Portman is a typical special interest lackey....we have the best government that money can buy.

Constituents = those who write the biggest checks

By: bfra on 3/15/13 at 7:04

The NO voter's lie, they are just using the "small business protection" to cover up that they are really protecting the ones that keep padding their pockets. Lobbiest, liquor store owners & distributors.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 7:24

Corporate welfare for the liquor store owners, the distributors and selected wine/liquor producers....campaign contributions for the politicians....and for the consumer? They get the shaft...along with a manure-spreader full of bullshit from the No voters in the legislature.

Time to man the signs...picket the liquor stores...honk your horns....march on the legislature....uncork your corked up frustration....start stomping on the grapes of wrath...show these A-holes who's boss....they need to get the fear of man into them, not the fear of God.

By: bfra on 3/15/13 at 7:29

The last wines I bought, came from vineyards and that is where I intend to get it in the future.. NOT from liquor stores!

By: Jughead on 3/15/13 at 8:53

@LOner: It must be nice to be unemployed, contribute nothing, and stupid. Write a book already.

By: gdiafante on 3/15/13 at 9:23

It must be nice to be unemployed, contribute nothing, and stupid.

So down on yourself. Someone has a wee bit of a self-confidence problem. Don't worry, I hear that Gordonsville's villiage idiot position may be open soon.

By: govskeptic on 3/15/13 at 9:25

Loner: Your 8:24 post is excellent. Problem is in this state. probably like many others,
people bitch about the politicians, but won't bother to sit down and write them
a personal letter to acknowledge their wishes opposition or position on any subject nor donate a few bucks to those they support.

By: bfra on 3/15/13 at 10:01

Since Raspy is so ga-ga about halibut, looks like he would find where to buy it (if he can afford it), that's better than complaining about nitty things. Fresh halibut isn't that hard to locate.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/15/13 at 10:13

Jughead post about having nothing to do. I would think he do something about its house first.

By: Jughead on 3/15/13 at 1:54

@ Captain: Can you please be comprehensible? Christ--you are not only stupid, you are damn near illiterate. Sad, pathetic, America! Home of poorly educated, welfare-addicted liberals.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/15/13 at 1:59

Shut up p3

By: Captain Nemo on 3/15/13 at 2:02

What is the matter there p3, can't you understand anything?

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 2:30

Thanks for the advice, Jughead...I should write a book...any suggestions for a topic?

BTW, I am fully retired..worked my ass off for decades...posting on comment boards across the globe keeps me firing on all eight...by the way, has your "wee wee" gotten better? That's all you could talk about there for a while....some thought that maybe you had tertiary syphilis....put a wrap on it next time.

By: Jughead on 3/15/13 at 2:52

@Loner: Retired and you do nothing but post on message boards? Pathetic.

My weewee is bloated. Thanks for asking.

By: Jughead on 3/15/13 at 2:54

HIGHLY doubtful Loner worked "his ass off" at anything. I'm sure he's a Medicaid/AFDC/WIC/TennCare baby who has leeched off taxpayers his entire pathetic life.

By: Jughead on 3/15/13 at 2:56

@Captain Nimrod: Remedial English. Rinse, and repeat. Good luck, dbag loser.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 3:11

Well Jug, I served my country, US Army 1967-69. Then I did a lot of cool things. I then became a Rural Letter Carrier...a really cool job....over 700 families depended on me for many years....I delivered....rain, sleet, snow, darkness of night....dog attacks...whatever.

Nowadays, I enjoy intellectual pursuits...like making music, writing, working on my own mechanical projects, riding a motorcycle and volunteering.....and partying my ass off....and I have family and friends....I'm an active UU member too....my life is far from being, "pathetic", Jughead....I'm living rather large....I'm grateful for what I have received....I gave what I could....back off on the personal attacks...thanks.

By: yogiman on 3/15/13 at 3:19

When are you going to move over here, gdifante? Should I tell my neighbors to be on the lookout?

By: yogiman on 3/15/13 at 3:29

Excuse me, Loner,

You say jughead should back off personal attacks on you, but you think it's okay for you to personally attack me as deep as you can... even though you don't know what you're talking about. Odd, isn't it?

I guess you being one of them damn Yankees makes you different, eh?

By: dargent7 on 3/15/13 at 3:31

People like this guy who boasts, "I've never tasted alcohol in my life" (because of Jesus) are a sad joke.
So, what?
I bet they take pharma medication which is 100x worse than a glass of cabernet.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 3:36

Actually, Yogi, I pity you and have asked the other posters to quit picking on you, because you were abused as a child and have had brain surgery...or so you claim. I have asked you to quit beating that dead horse birther issue...to no avail. You have driven several posters away and that takes away from the value of this forum. You are a bitter loser, consumed with a racist hate for our president...you are obsessed with his citizenship...Yogi, you need professional help....this is not a personal attack...many here would agree with me...you are a sick man.....get help.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 3:41

Hey, Darge....I agree, the goody two-shoes should be in a convent or monastery, not in the legislature...he openly flaunts his Christianity....no doubt, the guy has some sordid secrets...some skeletons in his closet....I don't like character assassinations, but when somebody ties to play the role of holyman-lawmaker, I say dig for dirt! Check the security camera footage at the local gay piano bars....chances are good, this pompous choir boy is in there....on a mission, of course.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 3:45

"Lips that have tasted alcohol shall never taste mine"

___Richard "Dick" Floyd, TN State Representative.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 4:02

While Uncle Sam is still up to his arse in the swamps of Holy War...a spoiled rotten North Korean punk dictator, with actual nuclear weapons and actual ICBMs, decides to scrap the Armistice and threaten the USA with a pre-emptive nuclear strike....if we get nuked by this punk, future historians will be bumfuzzled as to how this was allowed to happen....this is a case of wholesale dereliction of duty in Washington, DC.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 4:27

We also have our Republican hypocrites and scofflaws in the NY state assembly...this conservative guy was NOT a crusader for drug law reform in New York...he led a secret double life....stood silently by as thousands of New Yorkers got arrested and incarcerated for Cannabis-related "crimes"....meanwhile, he is smoking herb too....here's the story:

Troopers accuse Republican assemblyman of marijuana possession after highway traffic stop.

You seem to be an expert in making arguments on subjects you know nothing about.

I urge you, don't worry about the way I was raised. I had wonderful parents. They taught me and my siblings the facts of life. Honestly was one of their biggest issues. You don't lie and you don't steal.

You've constantly called me a racist because of my arguments on Obama (if that's his name) yet you don't know me from 'little bo pepe'.

As I've commented before, 'Obama's' race has nothing to do with my objection to him being in that office, yet you call me a liar on it. And ironically, the only reason I've heard anyone say they voted for him was because he is black. Did you vote for him? Why?

If you did, it had to be because of the race factor because you didn't even know who the man was: His name, when and where he was born... and still don't, yet you are so willing to have him in that Oval Office with no knowledge of him.

And you call me a birther? Gimma a break, Loner. Get a little knowledge I've referred to you on this site. You might not learn who the man is, but you should surely learn who he isn't.

By: bfra on 3/15/13 at 4:48

yogi - By your own words, you had stinking parents that was as dumb as you because, they didn't teach you anything. You lie & steal everyday of your life, right here on this board.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 5:05

Getting his "ass whupped" on a routine basis caused the initial brain damage for poor Yogi....then he had that surgery....now he lashes out at those who pity him....he's obsessed with Barack Hussein Obama....the guy's a friggin' human time bomb...another Jimmy Lee Dykes?

By: Rasputin72 on 3/15/13 at 5:09

Jughead.......What LONER did not tell you is that he is an ex-hippie from the 60's who missed the financial success boat that was going straight up in the 60's. His past and resume reduced him to rural mail carrier which is an honorable job but probably less than his ability.

The same people or kinds of people that the hippies rejected in the 60's and 70's are still in charge. LONER resents the establishment now just as always but is powerless to do a damn thing about it. He appears to be an honorable but envious passerby.

Now this forum has attracted a lot of working poor, underclass and shut-ins. Trying to reason with them Nemo,Bfra,Brrrk,Blanketnazi is only an exercise in confirmation that allmen are not created equal.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 5:16

Rasp...I thought that you had stormed out of here for good....had a change of heart? Your limited credibility has slipped to absolute zero.

As for resumes...would you care to reveal your accomplishments for the benefit of the board? What have you done that is so enviable? If you had to write a brief obit about yourself, what would it consist of, Rasp?

By: bfra on 3/15/13 at 5:18

Raspy - You got it right "All men are not created equal" & that really riles you. If I ever, & I am not a man, was considered to be "down" on your level, I would be devastated.
But you really do need to find a woman that will pay for you to visit Palm Beach, so you would know something about the area.

By: Loner on 3/15/13 at 5:28

Rasp...you think that you are living the sweet life...check it out:

Chelsea is now part of the tribe....she would make a perfect stooge POTUS down the road....good-looking....well-bred....instant universal name recognition....international connections and backers....millions of bucks to play with....sterling resume....Chelsea for POTUS in 2024?

By: Captain Nemo on 3/15/13 at 6:39

What Raspy seems to forget is that he fail at being a hippy. He try to get in on the free love of the time, but was rejected because he such a bore.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/15/13 at 6:40

I told you Loner that the old boy would return.

By: Rasputin72 on 3/15/13 at 8:39

NEMO........What makes you think that I left the forum as opposed to leaving the conversation?

LONER....,..My obituary has been written and you will have no problem identifying and connecting Rasputin with the corpse. My life achievements and philosophy will be readily apparent to you.

Unfortunately for your curiosity I am unwilling to release release resume information for resons that should be understood by you and completely over the head of the intellectual riff raff that is teaching me so much about underclass culture and thought prpcess.

By: yogiman on 3/16/13 at 6:21

You're right about one thing, bfra, all me ARE created equal. But not all men a raised into adulthood equal.

How do I know? It's simple; I just compare myself to you slick six. We're as different as daylight and dark.

You like to BS others with points you don't know are apparently don't have the intelligence to learn anything about.

By: Loner on 3/16/13 at 6:22

Rasp's identity will become apparent to all of us, once he kicks the bucket and his obit is published....so claims the Rasp....he's that famous (infamous)....or so he claims.

Right.....self-bullshitization on full display here this morning....Good morning, Nashville!

By: yogiman on 3/16/13 at 6:25

Another error. I meant all men ARE ... and all men are raised...

I'll try to slow down to equal y'all.
