Letter to the Editor

The City Paper has quoted Page Turner as saying she wasn’t called “Mayor Karl Dean’s Black Charlie’s Angel” in person. She said that through “hearsay,” she learned the phrase was used at the site of a candidates’ forum she could not attend.

"Hearsay" is not accepted in a court of law, nor should it be accepted on the street. If Ms. Turner is a diplomat, a peacemaker or a politician, she would not take gossip so seriously. The plain truth is that Ms. Turner has no record to run on, while her opponent in the District 33 run-off (Robert Duvall) has a proven track record of success and works well with his constituents as well as fellow council members.

The City Paper asked her about running a clean campaign.  How does one conduct a clean campaign when the mayor has bought and paid for her? A very expensive 8 1/2 x 11 double-sided glossy flyer was sent out to District 33 implying that Ms. Turner was responsible for the fire station in Antioch, the library, a donated park and other significant accomplishments in Antioch that have occurred in the last eight years.  That is all so untrue.

The councilman responsible for any successes in Antioch is Sam Coleman.  He has worked diligently with and for the people in his district for eight years.  As well, Robert Duvall has done the same in his previous district for four years.  Ms. Turner never appeared in the last eight years at a community meeting for this district until she attended one before the election to state she was running for council.

Most people prefer a council person who is results oriented, hard working and respectful towards all citizens, and who knows the difference between a resolution and a bill. No one wants someone who will parrot Dean and/or be his puppet when it comes to voting to raise your taxes, spend your money on his whims (convention center) or take away your city's landmarks (fairgrounds).

Ms. Turner appears to be an immature young woman because a mature woman would not repeat the hearsay comments; she would ignore them. And if someone called her the "b" word to her face (or within her earshot), she should have spoken to that person directly and resolved the matter at the time. To whine about it to the newspaper is immature and fits into the category of "who cares?”  Hopefully District 33 will not have to be subjected to her for four or eight years.

You want links to GW Bush's 1st response to 9/11?
Michael Moore's film, "Farenheit 911".
He has a clock in the right corner of the frame recording the time it took Andy card to tell the moron that TWO planes had hit the Towers and how he looked for 14 seconds.
All this, from the right, "He didn't want to upset the children" is blown away when you see his face.
It's the same face that "Loner" had when told his opponent in a charity boxing event was Mike Tyson.

By: bfra on 8/17/11 at 1:20

Loner, you are right on that one. That was one his first priorities!

Loner said

"The Republicans and Democrats are big fans of royal family rule; trouble is, the quality of the product is greatly reduced with each new edition."

If you read Thomas Paines <>Rights of Man he makes the point that to believe that Aristocracy through wealth is any more relevant or reliable than Aristocracy through inheritance or Primogeniture (as he calls it) is ridiculous. It makes no more sense to assume that the "prince" (or princess) will be any better than the current "king", than it would be to assume that the son or daughter who inherits their wealth from a parent would be any smarter than the parent.

Never mind bud I found it myself. I wish when people post something as a fact from another source they would give the link too.

Hey Capt, I did post the words that I googled before I copied what they said. Once before when I posted a "link" someone implied that links which I post might infect their computer, so now I just post what I google In "quotation marks".

Actually, the truth be known, no one in the world knows what they would have done. It's easy as pie to be a back seat driver, Monday morning quarterback or the next fiance of a run-away bride. Everyone knows what "should have been done" and no one who actually lived through a process is ever deemed to have been right, doing the best they could or even remotely smart for making the decision on the spur of the moment.

Stop! Everyone tell me what you'd do in a split second if you heard an explosion in your garage? Or your fire alarm went off in the bedroom at 1 a.m.? Or you were skidding towards an 18-wheeler coming at you at 75 mph and you don't have on your seatbelt? Or what you'd do if you heard a loud knock at your door and looked out to see the SWAT team loaded for bear in your front yard with 30 swat vehicles and the media trucks all over the place?

No easy answers! Bush actually did the best he could do. And you know, if I really think about it, Odrama has done the best he could do. Unfortunately for Odrama, he actually bit off a little more than he could chew and he's operating way above what should be his pay grade! (sorry D7)

Bud: You again show your naieviete or just plain stubborness.
For sake of argument, ok, Bush sat there, dumbstruck, and had to be pulled up to leave the room. He was in shock. Didn't know what to do.
He and his cronies got their ducks in order, issued a retaliatory response: Attack Iraq! ???
That further proved he's "on the take", inept as a leader, and impeachable.
But no. You sheep elect him to a 2nd term.
No excuse.
Now, you want Bachmann in the W.H.
Maybe Perry. Maybe we can call Washington, "The Vatican, West Wing" since everyone in the Tea Party speaks to, and get orders directly from, God.
Jesus is feeling marginalized.

bud - More marlarkey!

By: bfra on 8/17/11 at 1:49

Make that "malarkey"!

By: gdiafante on 8/17/11 at 1:52

Technically you're incorrect, Darge. We went into Afghanistan first as retaliation for 9/11. It wasn't until that war bogged down that Iraq became an attractive target.

America will never vote for a woman who confuses the birth and death of Elvis.

Mangle Paul Revere's ride...include John Quincy as a founding father, but do NOT insult the King.

Thank you very much.

g - You got that right! She really messed up on her Elvis comment.

Karl Rove Slams Perry For Fed "Treason" Comments

Rick Perry's "treason" comments are drawing sharp criticism from a wide range of political observers and talking heads, among them Karl Rove.

Tired of the birthers I suspect.

By: dargent7 on 8/17/11 at 3:13

We may of gone into Afghanistan first, but the hoopla, fanfare, and Bush's bull-horn at Ground Zero was all about the build up to invade Iraq: "I hear you, we hear you, and soon the people who knocked down these buildings will hear you...!"
Bush put a face on 9-11, that being Saddam Hussein.
No face was issued for Afghanistan. Just the, "war on terror".

By: bfra on 8/17/11 at 3:15

Nemo - Miss all of them, just thought of house as I was laughing so hard at brrrrk's comment. House always had some good ones.

Your comments about Bush's reaction on that 911 day makes me wonder, Would you be proud of Barry Soetoro's reaction if he clapped his hands?

The dumb blob made a dumb comment!

No 4:20 posts?

This site has gone to the dogs....I miss House and Slacker...Amyliorate too.

If we really want to have royal family rule, then cloning may be the answer. Instead of chips and flakes off the old block, we could keep getting new old blocks, to rule over us. Maybe we could exhume the guys on our folding money and clone them...I'm sure that they'd have the right stuff... for the 21st century and beyond.

Perry is accusing Bernanke of being "treasonous"? Oh yeah, this guy may ignite the Tea Party flame, but in a general election he'll be creamed. Let's hope that the GOP doesn't realize that.

Don't pick on yogi.... I hear his 2nd grade teacher said he was the brightest 13 year old she had in the class.

By: Loner on 8/17/11 at 4:16

Yogi has spent too much time in stir. I don't hate the man, I actually tend to pity folks like him. He's doing the best he can with what he's got. Yogi is no different than all the rest of us, we hold to our opinions with a stubborn tenacity...nobody likes to admit having been wrong....it's human nature....to paraphrase Rodney King: Can't we all just get a bong?

So, Bfra and Brrrrk, how would you summarize, or characterize the action on these boards during my Summer retreat?

By: dargent7 on 8/17/11 at 4:21

You really want to know how dumb these Tea Baggin' Republicans are: Perry says Obama never volunteered for the military. Never mind he was 8 years old during Vietnam. Or 26 during Bush I's Desert Storm, which was a laugher.
Why not pick on Romney, who has 5 boys, all of military age, NOT enlist, in a war, daddy championed?

By: Loner on 8/17/11 at 4:31

Dick Cheney was making love, not war during the Vietnam War...he got daddy deferments.

Dammit, Darge, we could have used a Rambo, like Dick Cheney, in the steamy jungles of Indo-China...the man shot 83 farm-raised pheasant in a single afternoon, according to reports. Dick had balls, when it came to gunning down terrified "game" birds...but he used his balls, literally, to escape the draft...some would say that he chickened out.

Dick became a hawk, though he was a former chicken...that's chutzpah.

Rick Perry, the secessionist Jesus freak, is just too handsome not to have had some kind of fling, here and there. Where's the dirt on this pastor-politician? Perry is anti-gay...is he himself "queer"? One must ask these sorts of questions now, so as to nip this fruit in the bud.

By: bfra on 8/17/11 at 4:40

Loner - The board fizzled along, about like it is doing now. Gotta say brrrrk is on a roll today! Don't forget, Cheney is such a sure shot, he shot a fellow hunter. I have hunted all my life and never came close to mistaking a hunter for the prey. Especially when hunting any kind of bird.

Anyone that has ever met or known Robert Duvall with all the accomplishments he has done for Antioch Neighborhoods, and how much he loves his career, really caring about the people and the future of Antioch .. like most candidates he lives here too should vote for him! As a 10 year resident of District 33 (once District 32 under Sam Coleman who I never saw do anything expect maybe this new Fire Station on Hobson Pike, the crime has gotten worse over here and he never came to any Assoc. meetings we invited him to (ROBERT DID!) and didn't return calls or emails we sent etc, I am GLAD to be rid of him and to have Robert Duvall!)

As far as Mrs. Page Turner goes, she was extremely verbally rude to a few of us in my neighborhood one Saturday since she saw us with some of Robert Duvall's signs out .. I don't think that is a good impression to make on voters as you are campaigning and we felt if she treated us like that before voting, how bad would she be if she was to win!?! I don't believe any lies about her accomplishments that don't exist .. I had never heard of her until now, all I have seen about her is she is a Realtor that lives here and has 3 kids! SO WHAT, that doesn't make you a good councilman.

Robert has history and a place in this area already with accomplishments, anyone that votes for Turner over Duvall is not very smart in my book .. sorry .. just basing that on facts. I have thought about moving away from here .. but I have faith in Robert so at least for a few more years I will tough it out with him!
