Letter to the Editor

Just to make sure we're clear. Before the last legislative session began, the Democrats elected a Republican as speaker of the House — and the Republican whined about it for months. So now, yet another Republican has been elected speaker, and the Republicans are whining again.

As for Mr. [Steve] Gill, as soon as he gains as much success as [incoming speaker] Beth Harwell, perhaps his opinion will be more credible. In the meantime, how many new jobs will all of this whining create?

Does anyone really listen to Steve Gill? Who bothers with AM radio and it's weird static.

I think the last tie I tuned in he was saying that a national ID card would solve all of our security concerns. What a loon!

"I've had war veterans from Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, and Vietnam e-mail me to tell me that this is exactly what they fought for," Kernan said "I've had sexual assault victims tell me that I was fighting for them - that I was doing something that they would have never been able to do. I've had pilots, lawyers, businesspeople, and students giving their support and calling me a hero.

"It has been incredible, although it's been frustrating as well. I don't think I'm heroic. Since when has simply asserting your own rights been heroic?"

Nice story, smart guy:

From the pics on tv showing the "pat-downs", I cannot believe the TSA even thinks for a second they can get away with this, "security measure". I also cannot believe the ACLU isn't all over this issue like a cheap suit.
The US has to become like Israel. Profile, backround checks, use dogs, and profile some more.
If I want to get 'frisked", I'll commit a crime first.

By: bfra on 11/24/10 at 6:06

d7 - The US can't profile, they might catch law breakers. (sarcasm, related to what goes on)

Airports should become satellite kennels.
Have German Shepards at every Entrance and Exit. At all Boarding gates.
They can sniff an explosive bomb a mile away.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. It's a busy week for me. No time to play.

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 9:44

I'm fully convinced this TSA trauma is one more step toward government takeover for the control of the normal citizens.

And it is also unhealthy. Have you noticed they never change those gloves when they search he 'next' person? Where have they been on the suspect before?

Comparing how many people are killed each year by auto accident, manslaughter, sporting accidents... you name it, why has the flying stage, at Thanksgiving time, been brought forth?

If this government is so concerned about our safety, why are they supporting the entrance of the illegal aliens as they are today? Aren't there any hating Muslims coming in now?

And what about the thoughts of letting the Muslim women 'pat' themselves down and tell the agents they are clear? Is this brilliance or what? Is it discrimination against American women who are USA citizens? What would they want to do; blow their nation up?

By: AmyLiorate on 11/24/10 at 9:49

"If I want to get 'frisked", I'll commit a crime first." lol

the ACLU has joined in on this to a degree. Here they are with the legislators in NJ. Of course this is only a measure stating opposition since state law only goes so far.
But this is good and it was done over a week ago.

By: Funditto on 11/24/10 at 10:14

Here's what they need to do at airports. Have a box folks can step into that doesn't scan you but will detonate any explosive device you may be packing. It's a win-win.

By: AmyLiorate on 11/24/10 at 10:33

That would work well Funditto.

Where will terrorists target once we have made flights this secure?

I recently read of Doctor Tom's cure for constipation. I looks like it will work well.

He says: "If you are bothered by occasional or frequent constipation, repeat the following phrase three times in succession when symptoms occur.

"My financial and personal well being are totally in the hands of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Tim Geithner, Rahm Emmanual, Barny Frank, Chriss Dodd and Al gore.

"That should scare the s... out of anyone."

Just wait 6 months and see what a mess TN is in. We have elected a talker but no substance guy from Knoxville, and it will make no difference what the senate does.

By: brrrrk on 11/24/10 at 12:59

Seriously..... if some 300 lb guy in a blue uniform and a pair of rubber gloves is our last defense against terrorism, then we are clearly doomed.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/24/10 at 1:00

Hello pswindle!

I always wait and see what takes place after an election. Sometimes it is good and sometimes it is bad, but always it is never exactly what I want.

We elect one individual to do the bidding of millions of constituency and expect him/her to do as “We” say. It never works out the way “We” want, does it.

By: bfra on 11/24/10 at 1:05

mornin' Nemo - Great sunrise, as usual. The winners of elections, don't even do what they say they will, BEFORE they got elected.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/24/10 at 1:05

Hello brrrrk!

The last time I went through airport security it was a nice looking woman that screened me. The rubber gloves did not take away from her natural looks and she even smiled at me.

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 1:10

There! You explained the circumstances of what we have today, Captain Nemo. That woman was apparently mentally ill. And we need her on that job?

They need to replace the whole darn company.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/24/10 at 1:10

Hello bfra-

It is hard for any of them to do what they say they will do. The only way any of them can do what they say is to be a Dictator and that is not what any of us want.

However there are some good points in dictatorship, but then it depends on who is the dictator and who are being dict. lol

Shut up yogi

By: AmyLiorate on 11/24/10 at 1:25

Hey, that's pretty good Yogi. Too close the the interstate, when I move out to the country I don't want to hear the roar of big trucks all night.

Those pictures are nice though, even has a spring on it. It might be worth driving out for a peek.

Nemo, that was a God morning, he put a lot of orange and wild colors into that sky.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/24/10 at 1:49

Hello Amy! Every day is a God morning, if you believe. :-)

By: GUARDIAN on 11/24/10 at 2:20

GUARDIAN-Republicans are whining ????? LMAO . “bruingeek” take your meds, get off MSNBC, stop watching the view, drive to Boston, Mass. and fly home. Barney Frank has resigned from the House and is a new TSA fondler at the air port there. You can ask for him personally to put you in a better mood.

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 2:31

Well, I haven't sit over there at night to hear the interstate traffic, Amy, but being over the hills from the interstate, you may not be able to hear anything traffic wise. Its a dead end road.

The biggest drawback would be, you'd have to put up with me as a 'down the road' neighbor.

There is a couple of other sites I will check out and let you know about them.

By: AmyLiorate on 11/24/10 at 2:46

Yogi, don't work on it too hard. I'm trying to get a feel for what I can plan for in the next year or so. But you've got the idea of what I'm trying to find. So keep your eyes and ears open.

If the perfect spot comes up I might go ahead and jump on it. That acreage:price was pretty well on target. I wonder if land farther from the interstate might be a little cheaper?

I hear you on the 11:59 Brrrk. What the TSA has come up with is a way for Chertoff to make some bank. Janet Nap, is just toeing the same old line.

I hear that they're labeling anyone who opts out as a "domestic extremist"... all the while they aren't looking for real terrorists. I wonder what they will do if a plane gets bombed even though we have done everything but strip search people.

Nemo, the searches now are done by same-sex. If you get someone who creeps you out can you ask for another groper?

By: AmyLiorate on 11/24/10 at 3:03

OK everyone, this just hit the wire:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/11/23/georgia.tsa.employee/

I'm sure there are many good TSA workers, but it sure seems that they turn up a new horror story frequently.

I think I'm not alone in feeling terrorized more by our authorities than any would-be bombers. At least as far as flying is concerned. :(

And good ol' Cherty is posed to make another shitload of money. Turns out that he also has his fingers in a company by the name of Clear that wants to act as a clearing house for passengers by collecting your fingerprints and taking iris scans.

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 3:12

I quit working hard years ago, Amy. I'll keep you in mind when I note something I think you might be interested in.

I haven't heard about the same-sex feelers. Considering your statement; "If you get someone who creeps you out can ask for someone another groper?"

What would they do if everyone of them crept you and you kept asking for another?

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 3:23

I read about your 2:03 post this morning, Amy. Doesn't it make anyone wonder what kind of employees would want a job of feeling around on anyone's body? Loyal, I love America employees?

Yeah, I'll agree, they love America and a company can pay them to feel around on others private parts; to the feeler's pleasure.

By: AmyLiorate on 11/24/10 at 3:28

Oh Yogi, you know that is our choice!

It's great to live in the land of the free isn't it? You have 3 options in this freedom:

1. Don't fly
2. Get naked scanned (children too), even though it's uncertain that the underwear bomb would have been seen by this.
3. Have an agent of the government do to you what would be called sexual assault if it weren't for the badge and your ticket. You have no idea what this person is about and there is no choice but #2 or #3 for 20% of the people.

Freedom, you gotta love that!

We're teaching our children that all this is OK. I'm not sure what the terrorists are teaching their children.

I'm heading out for a bit. All of you have a wonderful holiday if I don't hear from you later.

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 3:42

I'm not sure what they are teaching their children, Amy, but I'd guess they are in the process of learning a different way to teach them how to plant a bomb. Its much too easier than being practical.

Our 'so-called' government doesn't seem to know what practical is.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/24/10 at 4:06

Amy-

I was not searched at that time. I am waiting to see how much better I feel now before I go on a plane. I will go through the scan because; one it will be faster, two I am not that modest; three it will irritate the fringe nut on this board. lol

By: bfra on 11/24/10 at 4:09

Some people will gripe if they scan & then gripe if they don't! I would rather have everybody on the plane scanned, than worry about a bomb.

Thought for the day from......

War is a Racket: The Antiwar Classic by America’s Most Decorated Soldier written by General Smedley Butler

“A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small “inside” group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

In the World War [I] a mere handful garnered the profits of the conflict. At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their tax returns no one knows.

How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? How many of them parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy? How many of them were wounded or killed in battle?

Out of war nations acquire additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few – the selfsame few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill.

And what is this bill?

This bill renders a horrible accounting. Newly placed gravestones. Mangled bodies. Shattered minds. Broken hearts and homes. Economic instability. Depression and all its attendant miseries. Back-breaking taxation for generations and generations.”

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 6:15

brrrrk,

I agree with you completely about the circumstances of wars.

But consider; wars have been, somewhere in the world, since history began to be written. Why wars? Could it be the way of God keeping control of the population of the world.

As is known, the population is growing worldwide every day. What would the world be like if the population reached a system where there was no place to set your foot down without stepping on someone's toes?

Yes, a few make the hell out of money. Too often they don't give a damn about how many die for them to make that money. The longer the war lasts, the more they make.

Consider; How many people were on this earth one thousand years ago? How many are on it now with the population growth as it has reached today? Without the wars that have been on earth?

Frightening, isn't it?

By: yogiman on 11/24/10 at 10:12

I just read an article that several doctors are claimeing several viruses are extremely possible with the current body searches at our airports.

They mentioned syphilis, lice, gonorrhea, ringworm, chlamydia, staph, strep, noro and papilloma viruses.

Wanna be felt anyone? Will the new Obamacare health care take care of you? I guess it might depend on your age.

By: AmyLiorate on 11/26/10 at 12:35

Yogi, it doesn't matter if you get crabs from the TSA searches. All that matters is that the airplane doesn't blow up. Right?

Do you think they should allow smoking in the airports now? Some people still enjoy a cigarette after sex.

By: yogiman on 11/26/10 at 7:55

Amy, how many planes have been blown up since 9/11 until they started this 'let me feel' searches?

This is just a rude awakening of government takeover of civilians.

And I just wonder; how many of those agents are 'queer'?

By: bfra on 11/26/10 at 9:31

23 terrorists plots have been foiled since 9/11, while overall, there have been thousands attempts.

By: bfra on 11/26/10 at 9:39

yogi - That's easy to solve, DON'T fly!

By: yogiman on 11/26/10 at 10:52

I haven't flown since I left the service years ago, bfra, so that's the least of my worry, but unlike you, I'm still particular as to who feels around on me.

Maybe you should read an article written by Dr. Alan Keyes about this TSA search gimmickry.

And have you read about the FCC looking into the takeover of the internet? In essence, our communication facilities so they can control what we read and hear?

I'll say it again, bfra, time will tell. And you can use that gimmick; wait and see.
