Letter to the Editor

Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:05pm

Let's keep in mind that Kristine [LaLonde] represents the area around Belmont University and is also employed by Belmont University. The wishes of the university and the wishes of the neighborhood are often at odds. When she campaigned, Kristine pledged that she would remain impartial and not let her employment by Belmont influence her in her role as council representative.

In the wake of the controversy over Belmont's firing of Lisa Howe, I think Kristine has found that pledge impossible to fulfill. Many constituents in District 18 understood that before the election. It's too bad Ms. LaLonde only realized it after the fact.

Well our all knowing "global citizen" has what he/she thinks is
the real reason for this councilmember to leave. I suggest it was
the wrath of just such know it alls along with other disappointments
in serving that office's childish behavior that has caused a very
good candidate to decide "I've better ways to spend life and
precious time". Small gain for some is big loss for many!

The CityPaper, once again, finds an excuse to cram Ho-Mo-SEX-Ual Lifestyles down our throats!

Good morning

I did not read into the letter anything about councilwoman being removed. Maybe I am wrong about this, but all I read was that she will now have a hard time keeping her pledged.

How can the 'pledge' be hard to fulfill if Belmont University is simply going by their 'rules and regulations'?

The Anti-Defamation League has denounced Palin's remarks, claiming the blood libel reference is "fraught with pain in Jewish history."

Blood libel refers to a rumor that has fueled anti-Semitism and the persecution of Jews since the middle ages. Throughout history it was used to justify violence against Jews, from violent riots to the Holocaust .

Please tell me you are joking HokeyPokey, because if you think this is 'cramming the homosexual lifestyle down your throat' you must be delusional.

Good morning Antisocialite.

We stiil need to shorten your name. lol

By: Antisocialite on 1/14/11 at 8:18

It's actually the same number of characters as yours if you include the space :-P

Besides, I can't let this one go... I love a good play on words. Feel free to shorten it to Anti if you want.

Capt: I don't think my remark said anything about the lady being
removed, only that she was probably disqusted after a short
period of time with the whole "art/antics" of politics. Those
without inside agenda's often are!

By: Captain Nemo on 1/14/11 at 8:46

I understand and you are correct about those without agendas. I have seen too many people go into office thinking it is a piece of cake and being hit in the face with the reality of the enormously of the job. People think that being in the council is easy and they make a lot of money for doing nothing. Some do nothing, but the money is still not that great.

I don’t know what the pay is today, but I did figure it once if a person was to be work a 40 hr week, they would get less then minimum wage. It is impossible for them to work at it for 40 hrs, because they have jobs and families. I heard a councilman say once that he know when he took this job he would be a public servant, but some thought him as their personal servant.

Got to go now. Have a good weekend people.

It looks like Global is pointing out a very serious conflict of interests that LaLonde was a bit naive in thinking she could overcome.

Luke 16:13 comes to mind
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.

Paychecks usually hold a lot of influence.

Belmont with their anti-gay views will not rehire the Coach under any circumstances. They are too good to be fair .

By: yogiman on 1/14/11 at 2:00

Depends on what you call fair, pswindle.
