You gotta carry that weight

It appears a lot of weight is placed on the newly elected President, and the greatest stress test is billed as the "First 100 Days." President Obama started getting excoriated by the rank and file GOP within Day 30, and certainly by Day 50. Rush Limbaugh wanted him to "fail" before Day 60.

By April 20, he's closing in on his 100-day report card, and by all Republican accounts, he will get a failing grade across the board. I think they'll even give him a "F" in gym.

It seems to me a more fair approach to critiquing a new President is a time frame of one year. Especially if he or she follows a "two-termer," as Obama has. The momentum of the actions the prior administration has accomplished or ruined, will overtake the new administration for a lot longer span than 100 days.

It took GW Bush almost his entire first term to destroy Bill Clinton's budget surplus. And halfway thru his second term to ruin America's reputation around the world with needless invasions and wars, the sanctioning of torture, unwarranted wiretaps and infringing on American rights.

To be fair, give Obama more time to flex his political skills and show America the true leader they overwhelmingly voted for.

Paul D'Argent, 37209

Boy since the new management took over this place has taking a hard left turn. Think the DHS made up that toon? They think conservatives (fiscally responsible) are the real terrorists.

They are right about one thing we are a threat to them and will fight to keep our country from becoming a socialist/communist/marxist nation dependant on the government.

By: dooley on 4/20/09 at 3:32

Id , You fought to keep Obama from being elected . How much good did that do you ? All you radical wing nuts are finished .

By: idgaf on 4/20/09 at 3:48

And people are starting to realize why. You guys were politically correct but some don't like socialists of any color. Heck we don't even know if he is eligable to hold office you guys where so blinded by him and some like you still worship at his feet.

By: idgaf on 4/20/09 at 3:50

"All you radical wing nuts are finished ."

Yes Nepolitano showed us who the left/DHS thinks are the real terrorists.

Argo. >> It has taken OB only 100 days to spend this country into the greatest debt in a short period as ever been in this country's history.
Had Clinton desposed of Osama Ben Laden when he had the chance we would never been in the shape we are in today.
Speaking of radicals there has never in the history of this country any the likes of Nancy Peeloser, Harry Reid, Kennedy, Dodd, and Barney Franks.
Give him more time to show his political skills, I am still trying to figure what they are except for signing checks that is sending this country into greater debt.
When you are in a hole the only way out is to stop digging.

I give the cartoonist an A+. The cartoon is well-drawn, timely and absolutely dripping with the truth.

Those Americans who wish for our onerous government to go away should be more careful as to what they wish for. If human beings were angels, anarchy would be the way to go, since humans are not divine, a secular, pluralistic democracy seems to work best.

For those who hate paying US taxes, hate our Obamatized "socialist" government, hate US and Geneva Convention regulations, hate the UN, hate Islam, Arabs and Muslims, but love guns - It's better in Israel. Convert, make Aliyah and open fire!

Paul D'Argent's letter is very well-written. My only "criticism" is that if we use Paul's one-year moratorium on blame, for new president's, that would let Junior Bush off the hook for the 9-11 failures. Clinton would get the blame for failing to thwart Al Qaeda's plan, not Bush.

I think that nine months on the job was sufficient to merit some degree of blame for missing the clues that could have prevented the disaster.

Obama has been blamed by the Republicans for causing the finacial meltdown, even though it started under Bush, on Sept. 15th, seven weeks before the election and 17 weeks before Obama was sworn in.

.

The Right-Wing loves to label President Obama as a Socialist, but their memory is short because we know for sure that we the people were under Bush the dictator. We lived under a dictatorship during the last few years of the Bush Administration, and they were thinking along the lines of putting the United States under Martial Law.

By: Loner on 4/20/09 at 8:26

Id, 2476 and company, Obama has charisma and smarts, that's what America needs at this time.

I liked the way he went down to face Chavez et al. and I think that Obama charmed just about everyone there. He is likable. Those are his God-given cards and he is playing them well.

We tried the shoot-from-the-hip cowboy approach and it failed. Let Obama's charm offensive have a chance to succeed before you condemn it.

ID: I agree that there has been a "hard left" turn. Seems that the cartoonist and the letter writer have no clue as to what motivates the conservatives in this country. They don't hate Taxes, Government, or Regulations. What they do hate is the demlib Government adopting onerous Taxes and Regulations that stiffle the engine of prosperity, the United States capitalist business model. The model that has made us the most prosperous nation on earth.

It continues to be a stain on our humanity that there is such a constant stream of vitriolic hate speech toward everything and everybody that doesn't cater to the demlib position of greater government intrusion into and control of our lives. Several months ago, I suggested to some posters here to take a long look in the mirror and ask themselves if espousing a hateful attitude is what they really want to be known for? Demlib postings, especially those that mention President Bush, have the same tenor as the rantings of Bull Connor at the height of segrationist rioting from years ago.

Loner and D'argent:

What's the point ?
The kool aid brigade is immune to facts.

It's like Bush sent the chariot towards the cliff and
handed the reins to Obama just as we went over.

Obama can't turn back time or make horses fly so he's
bound to "fail" in their twisted view anyhow.

My only regret is that we
can't send all the "Bushites" to a place of their own so that they can truely benefit from the long term results of his
uninterruped leadership.

...I hear Texas is working on it.

Good morning.

The cartoon is the best yet.

Beans and Guns is the call of America new enemy. No taxs and no laws. The far right want the U.S. of A to become another Solmalia.

Great letter Paul.

Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are driving the bus at full throttle. With no minority party, the bus has no brakes. All we can do is scream out warnings from the back of the bus.

Government control of our financial institutions is only one of the screams you hear. The Fed is converting more and more preferred stock to common (voting) stock. With the "stress test" in-hand, the Fed may not allow funds to be repaid and will determine if other banks will be required to accept government funds.

toon: Yep, and that's what's in store for us when Comrade O'boy gets all his packages in place.

Let's try not to use ambiguous cliches like "kool aid drinkers" when we apparently both sides feel that way about the other-- and obviously neither is accurate or there would be a lot more bodies.

Nemo, you've been had. I hope you can see it before it gets you, that you bought this "Somalian" regime.

Did anyone else read the LTE in the Sunday Tennessean? I loved the letter that said that all the folks who disagree with the president are traitors and not supporting the troops. Right back at ya, right wingers!

Cartoon Mirror Test ----

DO YOU LOVE TAXES?
LOVE GOVERNMENT?
LOVE REGULATIONS?
HATE GUNS?

It better in Obamalia!

By: Captain Nemo on 4/20/09 at 11:24

Citizen does not hate Taxes, Government, or Regulations.

He just does not want to pay taxs.

Want government to let him do what he wants.

And have regulations be regulated and do nothing.

Now that is all the far right wants.

PandaBear: You're right. What is the point? For me, blogging, allows for self expression, b.s. arguments, and I like to be obnoxious and inflect pain on people.
My letter wasn't published in the hard copy...I usually send them to my parents who are staunch Republicans and believe America's decline started when they got that womanizing Catholic JFK in the White House. They also believe I'm serving time here in Tenn. for armed robbery or other felonies. Why else would anyone move here on purpose?
Anyway, you, Admiral Nemo, Loner, and Dooley gives us carpetbaggers hope that all of Tenn. isn't stuck in the 1880's.

By: Dragon on 4/20/09 at 11:48

Seven pirates who were captured after a chase by NATO, U.S. and Canadian forces have been freed because a country cannot hold and prosecute them if an attack is not against one of their own vessels, the Associated Press reports.
http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/04/seven-pirates-freed-over-legal-technicality.html

Looks like the pirates have a HUGE loophole. Free to attack any vessel whose navy isn't close enough to catch you.

Loner is a Yaankeee. Up state New York.

Nice people up there.
