Leave the girl alone

It is astonishing that the Republican Party, if it is true, pushed Bristol Palin (daughter of Sarah Palin) out front only to be lambasted by the media and putting her there fully unprepared to respond properly to questions regarding her interviews concerning her views on abstention from sex by teens and unmarried young people.

These are most likely views formulated for her, not by her, to try to push their restructuring efforts of the failing GOP to imply that they are returning to and stressing family values.

I think that it is disgraceful that this teen that had a child out of wedlock is being exploited in this manner for political reasons by the left, the right and the media. It is never pleasant to see any child denigrated for the mistakes that they made even though she may not believe the birth of her child was a mistake.

I can't believe Sarah Palin allowed her daughter to be exploited in this manner and can't help but wonder if she played a major role in it. My heart is with this little girl and her child and I take no pleasure in hearing her lambasted by the media and will not listen to it.

What are we as a nation coming to?

She is an adult and makes her own decisions.

With the current hosebags occupying the GOP, it's really hard to pick one person as the reason why the Republican party is sinking fast. The Palin family saga with mother-daughter dual pregnancies was typical of the hypocracy prevelant throughout. No one in that tent seems to get it, and unless Obama quits, be prepared for an eight year tenure.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/8/09 at 4:58

Good morning.

It is too bad that the Palin children have the parents they do. On the bright side Bristol appears to be mature than her mother.

By: Loner on 5/8/09 at 6:26

Good morning, Nashville!

I guess that the cartoons are gone for good, I blame George W, Bush! (Just kiddin')

Dooley strikes again! Great letter, but, knowing what the GOP is capable of., I wonder how anyone could be "astonished" at the crass exploitation of Bristol Palin,

Nothing should surprise us. The substantive actions of the Republican Party are all pre-announced.

To get the inside "skinny", all that one needs to do is listen to the fat man, the GOP's Chief Intellectual Officer, Mr.Rush Limbaugh. He speaks and the GOP responds to his urgings, suggestions and "strategery". You don't need a crystal ball to predict the GOP's next move, you need an AM radio.

As for Bristol and Sarah, they were handed lemons, they squeezed them and made pink lemonade. Same goes for the young buck who knocked the girl up, Levi Johnston, he's now working the talkshow cicuit. Who's exploiting whom?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/8/09 at 6:43

I would like to take the time a wish all of the mothers out there a very HAPPY MORTHERS DAY!!

By: house_of_pain on 5/8/09 at 6:50

For Mothers Day, I plan to allow my wife to put on shoes and leave the kitchen.

By: daKine7 on 5/8/09 at 6:54

Loner: They weren't handed "lemons". They had unprotected sex, which for Sarah is just fine, married, using the "rhythmn" method, but getting pregnant at 44 with 4 kids might of allowed the concept of abortion. Especially when she was told at 11 weeks the "baby" had "Downs Syndrome". Bristol and the hockey puck were going at it , at 16, maybe earlier, who know's or cares? But, Pailin, wanted this "family values" wacko-ideals thrust on all Americans. If this nut was elected with gramps, when not arming nuclear wareheads aimed at Russia, they would be lobbying for the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Watching Bristol and the puck attempt to give an articulate answer is like watching paint dry.

By: Loner on 5/8/09 at 6:55

How's this for a 2012 GOP Presidential Dream Ticket - Sarah Palin and Carrie Prejean (Miss California).

Using the Republican logo for inspiration, I see such a ticket as a pair of female circus elephants in heat - Dumbo and Bimbo - responding to the commands of their trainer, Rush Limbaugh. What a circus that would be.

I think they slipped something into my java this morning. I'm hallucinatin'.....

By: Loner on 5/8/09 at 7:04

Granted, D7, they weren't "handed" lemons, they bought and paid for that citrus. The wages of sin can be paid with fruit....... from Eden to Wasilla, 'twa ever thus.

In Nashville, those wages are often paid with a fuitcake.

In less important news, our bailout money for GM will be used to build cars overseas.

"Under Restructuring, GM To Build More Cars Overseas
The U.S. government is pouring billions into General Motors in hopes of reviving the domestic economy, but when the automaker completes its restructuring plan, many of the company's new jobs will be filled by workers overseas."

Isn't it interesting how a number of people on this page blame the GOP for "pushing" Bristol Palin out front (i.e. being called "hosebags" and "dumbo" without knowing for certain if the GOP even encouraged it or if she volunteered for it.

At least the writer Clouse put "if it is true" in their letter. Others seem to want to just crucify the GOP without evidence. Worse, it seems to me that everyone is putting Palin down when it specifically says in the letter she is being "lambasted by the media".

By your definition, the GOP is the villian here, even though it is the media and the left who are putting her down for telling people she made a mistake and that they should do it.

That's just sad.

Tsk Tsk Tsk. You can't be a Republican, otherwise you would know it is Clinton's fault!

Well, the good news was nice while it lasted.

Layoffs slow to 539K in April; jobless rate rises

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Layoffs-slow-to-539K-in-April-apf-15180702.html?.v=22

FTA: If laid-off workers who have given up looking for new jobs or have settled for part-time work are included, the unemployment rate would have been 15.8 percent in April, the highest on records dating back to 1994. The total number of unemployed now stands at 13.7 million, up from 13.2 million in March.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/8/09 at 7:18

Isn't it interesting how a number of people on this page can never blame the GOP anything.

That is just sad.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:20

daKane7,

Guess you would rather Palin have had an abortion rather than have a Downs Syndrome child. Sorry but some of us find the idea of abortion repugnant and would rather have the child.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:21

Nemo,

Really? I blame the GOP for cutting back the military too much in the 1990s. I also blame the GOP AND the DNC AND President Bush for starting this bailout mess in the first place.

So how about you? What do you blame the DNC for?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:23

And here's something else that ticks me off. We bail these maggots out and then they leave...and there's nothing we can do about it.

Under Restructuring, GM To Build More Cars Overseas

By: gdiafante on 5/8/09 at 7:24

Yawn...Chief, did you really expect a sudden end to unemployment? You're getting as predictable, and mundane, as Dragon.

Oh, sorry to interrupt the daily blame game...continue...

By: Dragon on 5/8/09 at 7:27

Obama also wants to stop building the border fence.

Among other issues, he proposes to cut funding for abstinence-only education programs, to change plans for how the U.S. will handle nuclear waste, and to include no money for further construction on the U.S.-Mexico border fence.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/08/obama-move-on-abortion-funds-riles-both-sides/

Yet the Libs are more concerned with Bristol Palin. It's called misdirection and is used by all good con men.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:27

Gdia,

Hardly. Just didn't want to see all the roses and sunshine I see a lot here. It's not going to get better any time soon, no matter how many articles we see saying otherwise.

Of course, I also note you didn't comment on my second article where GM is moving jobs overseas. Seems to me unemployment will get much worse before it gets better.

But don't let me rain on your "everything's going fine" parade either.

By: Loner on 5/8/09 at 7:27

Thanks, Dragon, for draggin' us back to reality.

Who made the executive decision to demand that Chrysler merge with Italian Fiat? Fiat's reputation, here in the states, is not that hot. Are US buyers supposed to buy the yet-to--be-built , post-bankruptcy, Chrysler products, due to renewed consumer confidence in the brand? IMHO - Ain't gonna happen.

On a more personal level, would buying a Pontiac Solstice, the recently introduced Pontiac 2-seater, be a good investment at this time? They won't be making any more of them, will they become collectable? Or is the car another Fiero fiasco - a flimsy, flaming failure?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:27

Looks like some of the more stable car dealers are hurting too.

From the same Wash Times article, "The proportion of GM cars sold domestically and manufactured in those low-wage countries will rise from 15 percent to 23 percent over the next five years. "

Loner
Fiat no longer has the rust problems that plagued their vehicles 40 years ago. They make a number of small attractive well-built vehicles which will appeal to the younger set. Look at their website.
The deal will also give Chrysler access to markets in the EU.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:36

Looks like the Aussies are worried we are declining too.

A Pacific Warning
Australia prepares for U.S. decline
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124174053175598779.html#mod=djemEditorialPage

FTA: "Australia also worries about instability among its Pacific island neighbors, terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and emerging threats like cyber war. In response to this outlook, Canberra is retooling its defense. It is doubling the size of its submarine fleet to 12 from six and buying about 100 Joint Strike Fighters, three destroyers and eight frigates. The ships and subs will be equipped with cruise missiles. It will also upgrade its army and special forces units and look for new ways to cooperate with the U.S. and other regional democratic powers."

By: daKine7 on 5/8/09 at 7:37

Chief: Let's take a vote, shall we? I'd like to hear from the "electorate" who frequent this forum who would have a "Downs Syndrome" child at 44 vs. who would have an abortion.

By: Citizen on 5/8/09 at 7:38

LONER: Buy the Solstice. It's well designed and looks like it would be a lot of fun to drive. And, even the Edsel has become collectable. If I had more money, less weight, and a larger garage, I'd have a Saturn Sky which is the same frame as the Solstice.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:38

daKine7,

Ok. I vote no way. Anyone else?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 7:41

daKine7,

That's no way I would approve an abortion...period.

Sorry but it IS a good day for news.

Maybe not abort, but as a man, that part wouldn't be my call anyway.

Wonder why investers are not putting up the capital even though the Government is willing to work with them to invest in US businesses?

Thomas Cooley at Forbes has an idea:

FTA: "Government interference in the normal conduct of business has had a chilling effect on financial markets and threatens the progress of the recovery. The Treasury and the Fed have created many new programs to provide liquidity to the financial system, to help banks restructure their balance sheets and to re-invigorate securitization markets. So far, the interest in these has been distinctly muted because potential participants fear the longer term consequences of getting involved with any of these programs."

I for one would choose the baby although I personally believe in freedom of choice for everyone.

By: gdiafante on 5/8/09 at 9:11

I wish I had Chief's enthusiasm for everything negative. But, just in case you don't realize it, we're in a pretty bad recession that isn't going to suddenly reverse itself overnight.

However, I do believe it is going to get better. I'm sorry you don't.

By the way, where do you run when you think the sky is falling?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/8/09 at 9:12

daKine,

Of course I would not approve of an abortion. I'm a practising Catholic. I'm am against abortion period.

Brrrrk, have you read Ron Chernow's biography of Hamilton? I bought it and am about to read it again.

By: Loner on 5/8/09 at 9:43

Yes, Brrrrk, lots of nuts, packed in a shiny, enameled, tin container. The fruitcake is a just dessert, for the sinner, it's torment is eternal. Repent now!

Thanks for the Solstice advice. Now, all I need is a big stimulus check from Mister O.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/8/09 at 9:48

if you know the risks of getting pregnant at 44, WHY would you be so irresponsible as to be pregnant in the first place?

By: dooley on 5/8/09 at 9:55

That's a personal choice I would think.

By: brrrrk on 5/8/09 at 10:13

gdiafante said

"Brrrrk, have you read Ron Chernow's biography of Hamilton? I bought it and am about to read it again."

No, I haven't. I've got to admit that I'm not really big on biographies simply because of the fact that they can be slanted dependent upon the author. I prefer to read as much written first hand by the person that I'm interested in. Project Gutenberg is a good source for this type of material.

By: daKine7 on 5/8/09 at 10:15

Chief:
That's a good, typical, white-bread, politicially correct, answer. You're a "practicing" Catholic? All well and good. Commendable. Why then join the military, to voluntarily inlist, to "just follow orders"? Maybe the National Guard engages in humanitarian efforts, but seldom does the Army or Marines. They kill, at will. So, you can kill, but cannot sanction a woman having an abortion. Please let me know where you live and the circles you travel in, 'cause you are indeed a danger to yourself and society. I want to, by all means, avoid mental cases such as yourself.

By: gdiafante on 5/8/09 at 10:16

I agree Brrrk, but I do read biographies. I try to read as many as possible about one person just for the reason you listed. Chernow's is a good one, very detailed.
