Dangerous litigations

President Barack Obama most assuredly wants to appoint some person to the Supreme Court who shows empathy or sympathy to litigants who come before the Court. I believe most any good American has both of these fine traits in their system.

However, not just any good American can, or should, be on the Supreme Court if their legal decisions are based on these two traits. After all, this great country called the United States of America is based on laws and not pre-perceived sympathy or empathy for certain individuals or groups.

Lady Justice is a statute found in just about every courtroom in America. It is depicted wearing a blindfold. This is done in order to indicate that justice should be handed out objectively, without fear or favor, regardless of identity, person or weakness. In other words, blind impartiality and blind justice.

Mr. Obama, in his writings and his voting record in Congress has already shown that he will insist on an appointee who has the capacity to understand others and decide cases based on his or her sympathetic understanding of a litigant, not their understanding of the Constitution. This is dangerous.

Dragon,

This is insane. The government will end up owning ALL the automotive industries at this rate. Look at the situation...gasoline going up again, the initial cost of cars will go up, the businesses are close to bankruptcy NOW!

I'm starting to think you're right - that the government wants control of the auto industry in the US.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:01

Gdia,

Not waiting for the perfect situation...but not interestied in having government-owned car industries in this country. Last time I looked, that was at the very least Socialism.

By: house_of_pain on 5/19/09 at 3:03

chief, aren't you owned by the government (G.I.)?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:03

Gdia,

Remember when Obama said we HAVE to pass this spending bill and they did so WITHOUT even looking at it? That's what this sounds like...let's rush to do this and just worry about the after-affects later.

You're a logical person, Gdia. This is nuts...and you know it.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:04

House,

I can retire when I like. Think the automotive industries can get out of government ownership as easily?

By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:05

The sky is falling!!!! The Sky is falling!!!!

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:06

Nemo,

Just because I see it coming and you don't believe me, doesn't mean it won't happen.

For crying out loud, they could have waited a year or so...they still would have had the votes to get it done.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:08

I don't care when you retire, chief. Like house said you are owened by the government. It is in your programing.

By: gdiafante on 5/19/09 at 3:10

Obama has guided GM to filing bankruptcy, which is something they should have done a while back. In fact, I even remember some Conservatives saying that would have been better initially than a bailout. Maybe so.

But, it's obvious that they weren't going to go quietly into that big sleep. The needed a nudge. Now that they've finally come to terms with their place in the world, who the hell else is in a position to do this? The alternative is the complete abandonment of U.S. auto manufacturing.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:10

Nemo,

You keep on believing that.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:12

You never saw it comeing with Bush. Why should we think you see it now?

Your judgment sucks.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:14

Gdia,

Never mind. Doesn't matter. Obama won (as he continues to remind us). I'll just have to live with a more socialistic state until I can get into the position I want to be in.

By: Dragon on 5/19/09 at 3:14

Obama already owns 55% of the GM stock. Now, he want to dump the garbage and keep the profitable parts.

BTW, the tens of billions of dollars of taxpayer money? The debt is "forgiven".

By: gdiafante on 5/19/09 at 3:15

The difference between your ideology and mine, Chief, is that I don't beleive there is a government conspiracy to shove Socialism down our throats. I think we've experienced extraordinary circumstances because of years of poor planning and corruption. Now, with everything seemingly hitting at once, tough decisions need to be made. We are in the processing of changing our entire economy...and it hurts...but we can't go back to the archaic policy that got us here. It's not going to happen.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:15

Nemo,

Don't worry about it. Obama will make all your dreams come true. The government will become more socialistic, as per your wants.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:17

Gdia,

I disagree...but it's a moot point. Whether I like it or not, we ARE becoming a socialistic state. It's not to my liking...and I'm sorry that when I do leave this mortal life that's what I'll be leaving to my children and their children...but that's the unvarnished fact. God help us all.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:18

I make my dreams come true, chief. You just have a programe.

By: gdiafante on 5/19/09 at 3:18

LOL, you are a drama queen coach.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:18

Dragon,

The debt is forgiven...yeah, I expected as much.

By: Dragon on 5/19/09 at 3:19

Yes, after the government takes over the finance, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and energy sectors, they will fix it and magically return control over to the private sector.

It worked for the USSR, didn't it?

By: gdiafante on 5/19/09 at 3:19

I have an idea, you and Dragon could move. Then, you wouldn't have to live in persecution (imagined) and we wouldn't have to listen to your whining.

coach s/h/b chief.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:19

Gdia,

Wish I wasn't seeing what I am seeing. Life is REALLY gonna suck in the next few decades.

Wish I had been born about 20 years earlier.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:20

good one gdia. lol

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:21

Gdia,

I have to wait until I can retire...but I HAVE thought of that one.

We'll have to see just how bad things get before I can leave the country of my birth.

By: gdiafante on 5/19/09 at 3:23

Well, it sounds as if it's unbearable, as if you are in continual agony and your children are doomed to a life of servitude. I'm not sure how you get up in the morning.

I've heard that Paxil can help, but the Mrs. may not like the side effects.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
chief it would not help when you were born. You will never be any smarter than you are now.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:25
Nemo,
And yet I'm still about twice as smart as you are.
By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:27
Good come back chief.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:28
Gdia,
It's unbearable only because I love my country as it was and it's changing (IMO) for the worse. I'm NOT saying we are going into a communistic government with everyone condemned to a life of servitude.
I am saying that the country as it was is changing by leaps and bounds during this year...and not in a good way, IMO.
I'll deal with it until I get my kids out of the house...then I and Ms. Chief will have to sit down and see what we want to do when I and she retire. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure I will stay.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:30
Nemo,
Look I'm not crazy and I don't think the world is ending. I just don't like the direction we're going in. I'll live with it until I retire...then reevaluate things and see what I want to do from there.
I still don't like it though.
By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:30
There go another defector to Texas. lol
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:31
Nemo,
Actually I was looking at Austrailia to retire to. Not sure yet about that and of course things change so I'll wait and see what comes up.
By: slacker on 5/19/09 at 3:33
Did I mention they found a 47 million year old monkey?
By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:33
What make you think they want you to move there?
By: Dragon on 5/19/09 at 3:34
Stand strong, chief.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:34
Nemo,
What makes you think they don't?
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:35
Dragon,
For at least another 10 - 15 years. After that, we'll see.
By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:36
I thought Australlia was a sociallistic country. If so you want lke it.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:38
Nemo,
Interestingly enough, it shows up as a Democracy. Has a pretty high tax cap (about 40%) but I doubt I'd make it that high anyway.
If it does become a socialistic country...I'll find somewhere else to go.
By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:43
Iraq is a domocracy. You will love it there.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 3:46
Nemo,
Nah...not a true Democracy yet. Besides, it's still a third-world country. I have to thinkg about Mrs. Chief.
There'll be one somewhere...there always is.
By: Captain Nemo on 5/19/09 at 3:54
That is such an Pollyannaish answer.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 4:01
Nemo,
Sorry you don't like it, but it's the only one I have right now.
By: dargent7 on 5/19/09 at 4:04
Congrats: Another 300 posts by the 4:00pm deadline and the mean IQ is, as usual, about 50.
WTF?
We'll send this transcript off to GitMo as well as the others. Waterboarding has nothing on this shi*. Dick Cheney will even sign off on this, personally.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 4:10
Dargent,
Nice to know you're still around.
By: chiefpayne568 on 5/19/09 at 4:13
Well looks like Obama wants to try to get everyone onboard by considering setting up a cash-for-clunkers program to get the old fuddy-duddies like me who won't give up their good old cars for a while with his program.
I'll probably do it...when my car is down to me pushing it first.
What Obama’s clean-car plan will cost consumers and teetering US automakers
By 2016, a new car will pollute less and get more than 35 miles per gallon, but its sticker price will be at least $600 higher.
