Special laws for gays is a sham

It may appear strange to some that I as a liberal I think that gay rights, especially same-sex marriage, is a sham. There are no rights that I have that gays don't already have.

I personally believe that marriage is constituted between a man and a woman, and putting religion aside, to me it is a deep moral issue. To legislate laws that give them the rights of traditional marriage such as spousal health care, family health care leave, the right to adopt children or receipt of spousal benefits from Social Security is wrong.

I am not prejudiced against gays and will afford them every courtesy that I would afford to any other human being. I will feed them if they are hungry. I will clothe them if they are cold.

But I will not accept that their lifestyle should be supported by a special set of rules that will cost me extra tax dollars to cover these special people with special rules in society.

I wish them the best in their every endeavor but do not feel that I should be expected to accept the fact that my tax money will used as a result of this special legislation that sets gay's apart from the rest of us.

Pardon me if I'm wrong.

"Cassius" Clay: Gays do not want "special rights", just the same as the rest of us.
Though I totally disagree with same sex marriage, a part of me says allow them to be as miserable as the rest of us.

Wow! 8:00am and nary a soul posting. Either the LTE scared the homophobes or they had too much BBQ over the weekend.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/09 at 7:17

Good morning, Paul. How was your holiday weekend?

By: house_of_pain on 5/26/09 at 7:21

Too much beer & BBQ, d7.
Honestly, I'm a little tired of this debate about gay marriage.
Let 'em do it. What's the big deal?

By: house_of_pain on 5/26/09 at 7:22

Hi, Blanket. Did you grill any 'non-pigeon items' this weekend?

By: daKine7 on 5/26/09 at 7:31

Where's the Captain, anyway?
And "Blanket"...please tell me how you arrived at your "posting" name, will you? Deep Eastern meditation or did guru 'House of 7 Gables" give it to you?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 7:34

daKine,

Ok...how about this then.

If Obama ADMITS we are out of money and running on a deficit, then WHY is he continuing to spend money and why is he continuing to push his socialized medicine when we clearly cannot afford it right now?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 7:39

Or how about this one:

By: house_of_pain on 5/26/09 at 7:40

We can't be out of money, chief. We still have plenty of checks.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/09 at 7:42

house, i didn't grill any non-pigeon items or any pigeons for that matter. i was too busy painting trimwork inside the house.

OK, my name (again): i had an ex who always accused me of stealing the blankets at night and called me the Blanketnazi. i liked the nickname and it stuck. it's also a tip of the hat to Seinfeld's soup nazi.

By: daKine7 on 5/26/09 at 7:49

"Blanket"...I was hoping for an explaination and definition more esoteric. Like "House's" name came him while filling in as a sherpa in Nepal taking mountaineers up to K2.
Or mine, smoking "Maui-Wowie" on of all places, Maui.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/09 at 7:50

sorry to disappoint.

Now I found THIS interesting.

Hard-luck Montana town pushes to house Gitmo detainees

"Hardin borrowed $27 million through bonds to build the Two Rivers Regional Correctional Facility in hopes of creating new employment opportunities. The jail was ready for prisoners two years ago, but has yet to house a single prisoner."

By: daKine7 on 5/26/09 at 8:01

Chief: Good afternoon. 49% of whom? The people who voted for Bush & Cos. failed policies? These suspected "terrorists" are a threat to our National security?
After 7 years of incarceration? Don't you think these types are "out of the loop" by now. And America protrays itself as "the model" of humanitarian concerns.
Give them habeous corpus. A fair trial. An "American style" trial by jury where justice is for sale.

Good morning.

I think marriage sould be between two people in love. Same sex are not is incidental.

The fight in this country is the right for gays to have the same privileges as the rest of us.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/26/09 at 8:09

About last fridays post.

It is to bad that I had to work last friday. I always enjoy a good discussion on religion.

My thought is that God should removed the thoughts of religion and politics from the minds og mortals. It would keep a lot of the conflicts from occurring.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:10

daKine,

Wow...you actually asked WHO voted in a poll. Good for you. The answer, of course, is I don't know...it's a poll after all. But it is good that now you are questioning polls.

Obama picks Soyomayor for Surpreme Court Justice.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:19

Blanket,

Sounds to me like a lot of folks in that Montana town plan to bail out if the detainees are moved there.

BTW, I didn't see it anywhere but is this supposed to be a maximum security prision?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:21

Nemo,

I've heard Soyomayor has had a lot of her decisions from the bench overturned because of her extreme liberal stance.

Should be interesting to see if the Republicans try to block her or not.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/09 at 8:23

chief, the article states that it meets the standards of a maximum security prison. and yes, not everyone is going to agree however their city council voted 5-0 to have it.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/26/09 at 8:29

Yes it will be interesting to see how the Republicans block an Catholic Hispanic female.

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:30

The Republicans can't block anything.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/26/09 at 8:32

That want stop them slacker.

Rush Limbaugh and Chanaey will have a lot to talk about in the days to come.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:32

Blanket,

Their city council will have to abide by the decision of their voters or risk losing their seats. They ARE after all representatives of the people.

Of course they may be gambling that those who disagree with them will leave prior to their reelection.

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:33

The entire southwest will be controlled by Hispanic politicians, in 20-25 yrs.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/09 at 8:33

chief, perhaps the MAJORITY of the voters agree with the council. it doesn't make for a good news story otherwise.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/26/09 at 8:34

More defector for Texas?

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:34

Nemo,

I'm sorry...I didn't know being a Catholic or a Hispanic or a female would prohibit them from being blocked.

And BTW, it seems to me Rush and Chaney already have plenty to talk about...this will just give them more to say, I would think.

Slacker,

They can if they can get some Democrats to vote with them. Guess we'll see what they can do.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:35

Slacker,

Doesn't look good for gay people then, as Hispanics are pretty anti-gay marriage, for the most part.

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:36

Chief, at this time they can't do squat.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:38

Blanket,

"chief, perhaps the MAJORITY of the voters agree with the council. it doesn't make for a good news story otherwise."

Perhaps they do...the problem I have is that the story didn't say the majority agreed with the council. And I disagree with you on the story being a good one to run or not...without the notation of whether there is a majority of support for this or not, one is left to infer there IS a majority of support.

This of course would mean there are places to bring them here to the US without the disapproval of US citizens...which would mean that the decision to close Gitmo and bring them to the US was a good one, right?

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:38

chief, I'm making predictions today. Consider me, slackerdamus.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:39

Slacker,

Funny, that was said time and time again in the past. I will wait and see what they will do.

Politics can turn on a dime.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:41

Slacker,

Oh great and powerful slackerdamus...I beg the boon of your great wisdom and prognostication. What do you see for the foreseeable future? 8^)

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:41

chief, slackerdamas predicts confirmation.
So let it be written, so let it be done.

By: Captain Nemo on 5/26/09 at 8:41

This looks like another bad day for some people. The world is not going as they think it should. lol

By: house_of_pain on 5/26/09 at 8:44

Are there more than 5 people in Montana?

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:46

Speaking of Gitmo, why not change one's mind, and leave them there. Make a big deal out of speeding up their trials. It makes sense.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:48

Slacker,

All hail the Great and Powerful Slackerdamas!

By: slacker on 5/26/09 at 8:49

chief, go with peace my son.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:52

Slacker,

I thought about that myself. The problem is, Obama has already said he will close it and set up a time to do it. Now, if he changes his mind, I think he thinks he'll look weak, IMO.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:52

Slacker,

Praise be the mighty Slackerdamus...may his light shine on the world forever.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/09 at 8:53

house, i think Montana is up to at least a dozen folks now.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 8:53

House,

"Are there more than 5 people in Montana?"

Well there is during Skiing season.

By: chiefpayne568 on 5/26/09 at 9:03

Now THIS is amazing!
